>>8212 No, it's starting to recover, but there's almost nothing to talk about either here or /g/, there's like one /g/ thing that happened but nobody brought it up because there's not much to say.
>>8213 >nobody brought it up because there's not much to say More like we just don't care for western twitter drama. Unless you're referring to a different incident.
>>8214 A different one, but still a nothing burger. This site isn't for that anyways I wish there were more notable positive Vocaloid happenings. I'm excited for the new Nurse Robot.
Kind of crazy it’s almost Miku’s birth month and yet, nothing much is happening in the Vocaloid world right now. I still believe Crypton will drop Miku V6 this month, how delusional am I?
Found this cover of the jaypee theme song created by IAbro off /jp/ >>8258 I'm always here. Mostly lurking because activity has slowed down over the week.
>>8258 Yeah, I'm here. Just waiting for a truly interesting song release or a new vsynth announcement that isn't a generic Dreamtonics vocal The new AHS banks look cool
>>8258 still here! feels like nothings been happening at all recently (despite new song releases) >>8256 i really liked it. might have found a new producer to listen to thanks to cast's involvement
>>8287 You don’t think they would kick out Gakupo after last year’s? IMO it’s believable for Internet Co. to promote a new character if Gackt isn’t up to record an updated bank.
Aside from Animen alluding to something coming for Eleanor, Renri looks like she's likely getting ACE next and Zan-shin is likely going to be shut down before they announce a ROSA 2.
The Internet Co SV2s sound pretty good, but I can’t help but think they won’t do rock so well. I couldn’t imagine SV Gumi pulling off this song’s hook for example. I guess it’s not a big deal since rock isn’t as popular these days?
>>8368 True. I feel like SynthV is different just because most VBs lack the power of Vocaloids unless you distort them to high hell, but as far as Vocaloids go I've seen Miki metal, Bruno electronic, Maika, Gumi, VFlower, & Miku in just about every genre, Big Al & Gakupo in almost everything deep enough. The only ones I haven't seen in most genres are the ones with less users overall, like Mirai Komachi.
>>8379 I think it’s the prominent lower eyelid. The artist is replicating that makeup trend that makes your eyes look bigger, but on an anime character it looks more like eyebags or something. That and the grey eyes. I kind of like it on teto since it makes her look more mature. That said it’s very similar to the artist’s other work
>>8396 As much as I wanted it and how happy I am about this, I’m typically super pessimisstic about things like this and assumed he wouldn’t. There are tons of people who make Vocaloid rap yet only a few people use Yi Xi and I never see anyone use Eri/D-Lin/Ritchy, barely anyone used Prima and most of her uses are outside of her intended genre. Tonio was mostly used for memes and most uses of Yi Xi also aren’t her intended genre. TAK is Korean but prefers using Miku to SeeU or Uni back when they were available to purchase, and he probably won’t be using Uni even after she gets re-released. Despite the Musical Isotopes having a rap vocal (Haru), I see way more people use Kafu for rap as well.
These producers probably know not using Miku/Teto/Insert Popularloid Here will cost them tons of views, even if said Vocaloid fits their genre better and will make production easier than using Miku. This isn’t to say that using Miku, Teto, or other popular Vocaloids is bad though, they’re popular for a reason.
Maybe this is a sign things are changing though? Since Giga also has used Galenaia, and the Japanese fandom says they also have MikuTeto fatigue (Either that or Eclipsed Sounds just secretly commissioned Utsu lol.)
>>8413 Would definitely agree when it comes to other Vocaloids (who gives a fuck about Allen) but SynthV (and Cevio & Voisona) have an actual rap feature, and rap is more similar to speech/a separate vocal technique than singing so it gives them the upper hand You have to be veryyy skilled to make Vocaloid rap/opera/metal growl or scream, I think that’s just more of a “Giga is a tuning god” thing lol (and Utsu in the case of Vocaloid metal), I really hope Yamaha tries to better implement extended vocal techniques like SynthV one day, especially seeing how popular the ES vocals are even with normies and Japanese producers who typically stick to their favorite loids.
I feel Vocaloids all sing the same way without tuning, so marketing them for separate genres is pretty much pointless
>>8418 >especially seeing how popular the ES vocals are even with normies and Japanese producers who typically stick to their favorite loids. SynthV has Spanish vocals now? Did i miss something or are you referring to Galenaia?
>>8449 It actually does! To my knowledge it’s supported in XLS as well, so you could do something like make Teto or Gumi speak Spanish. However by "ES vocals" I was referring to Eclipsed Sounds, Galenaia is both so you’re right either way
>>8461 >>8462 Could just be that cast is not available, you know already booked and whatnot. Could be that he thinks, correctly so, that he can do the style himself well enough that he doesn't need to original. Definitely could be a matter of money, but it almost doesn't feel like it.
I like how unashamedly horny the Leviteto artist is. He just draws ecchi on Twitter and does not give a fuck. Hope he ends up contributing to other music videos I like his artstyle.
>>8504 You're absolutely right, It takes forever to find one now, if you can at all. I tried to look for one for a Xitoo song but all the results except the first were unrelated.
I wonder how this will affect Mikuchan's userbase... Canon is big but Hioka is huge in comparison. We might (unfortunately) get kids under 18 asking dumb questions that break the rules.
>>8778 39chan is 18+ but with how anonymous of a platform it is, I can't enforce age restrictions. I'm not the UK government. But these threads are heavily moderated and rule breaking posts will be deleted.
>>8932 >>8938 It wouldn't break the site it would just make low quality posts more prominent and would give the site more exposure, which we do not need
We will likely be okay, all things considered. If I've learned something from the last event it's that outsiders who come here are typically respectful of our site's culture and leave once the Q&A is over. The ones who stick around aren't troublemakers either, for example that guy making 3D Ritsu renders seems to have adapted well. Bad posts/threads here also get deleted/banned or locked so once again, I don't think the Twitter crowd will be much of an issue. Like we do with most people who come here, if they behave, they can stay.
>>8939 At worst it'd just give the site more exposure for a few days before it cools off. Tetobros here are not nearly as annoying as on 4chan's /jp/ board.
>>8940 >Tetobros here are not nearly as annoying as on 4chan's /jp/ board. The Tetobro at the cytube stream was a cool dude. We've got the good ones, /jp/ can keep the rest
/jp/ is in a terrible state and the mods don't care. Check previous Vocaloid threads and you'll notice the decline.
No one there cared about Miku V6 while over here the thread was extremely active being constantly bumped as things were happening in the livestream. Barely anyone there shares music anymore, look at the current thread that's up right now and it's all producer-bashing or "muh westoids... le western fans bad..." (don't get me wrong, I hate them too but that sort of discussion completely derails the threads). Then you have the infamous "tetofag" who fortunately hasn't been showing up at all, the dramafags who post Twitter screenshots, etc. It's bad, it's real bad.
i've been seeing this utau, oune meno, a lot on my pinterest feed, but i haven't heard of her until recently. she's quite cute, do you anons know about her?
>>9163 Likely scenario? We get some more traffic, 90%+ of the newcomers taper off very quickly, and maybe we get a few more long term users. And we have good mods, not much to worry about imo.
>>9163 Pretty much what this anon here said; >>9170 Only a few anons from the last Q&A stuck around, the rest are kinda only there for the Q&A and don't really care about the site At the end of the day this site is not like 4chan where people will intentionally derail Vocaloid threads into political shitposting and other schizophrenic stuff, the owners of 39chan made it clear from day one that this site was made because of how bad the 4chan threads were getting
Ui is slowly growing on me. I'm admittedly still not a fan of realistic voicebanks and Ui sounds almost indistinguishable from the real Shigure Ui, but it is a voice that sounds good to my ears.
The fact that Hioka and a Vocatone collaborator have been lurking this site implies the possibity that a CFM employee is looking at this thread right now as we speak. So go ahead and say something nice about Miku.
>>9237 I'm not. We stopped being this obscure site no one knew about months ago when 4chan went down. Then after that the Canon Q&A happened and 39chan was in everybody's mouths. And that's without counting the TORIKO prank.
>>9238 TORIKO is begging to be finished. If there's anything I'm hoping for from this new wave of users it's that they stick around and try to lend their voices to the project. Such a great design can't go on voiceless.
I don't know if I'm just bad, or if Yukari's V6 English is just fucked. It's killing me....
TT, Akane, Aoi, Una, Tsumugi, Gekiyaku, Kazehiki. All their English is fine but when it comes to Yukari it'll be fine for the most part then there's just garbled nonsense on a string of notes...
In that case, one last question for everyone here: if, by any chance, new official merch for derivative characters like Neru or Haku were released, what kinds of products do you think would be well received—especially outside Japan? Anything goes: product categories, price ranges, sales channels, etc. I’d love to hear your frank, no-holds-barred opinions that anonymity makes possible.
>>9588 I would guess plushies and a full Nendoroid would be well received at a mid-range price range ($40-$50). Or stickers and acrylic charms at a lower price range ($5-$10). In terms of distribution, higher-price items sell online and lower-price items would be good for anime conventions. Just my opinion though - I’m not a big merch buyer, so take with a grain of salt
>>9588 We need a spicy body pillow! Human size plushes are too expensive. How else can I go to bed as she wants me to? And I want to make sure I feel her when I get bored
For price, maybe $30-$60 outside US with print? Tariffs are a thing...
>>9576 Any thread you see with "General" in the title typically means that it's for general discussion regarding a certain topic. In this case "Vocaloid General" means it's to discuss anything that has to do with Vocaloid, which is why you see people discussing characters, songs and artists here.
>>9610 People like Hioka coming to /leek/ makes me worry a little that they see us like the same way they see those people on Twitter. 39chan is obviously a lot more accepting of otaku culture and ideas because it was built by otaku for otaku. But Twitter on the other hand, it certainly does not paint a good picture of the western fan.
>>9638 In Japan, doujinshi sales events that focus on a single work or character are called “only events” (オンリーイベント). These are typically held by renting small- to mid-size conference rooms or industrial exhibition facilities. The venue for “Intane Square” is one such site—the Kawasaki City Industrial Promotion Hall, which has exhibition areas, meeting rooms, and a small hall. The photos show scenes from past doujin events, taken from the facility’s blog. Because facilities like this exist in many regional cities, small- to mid-scale only events held nearby are a real boon for people living outside the major metropolitan areas.
At these events, half of a folding banquet table counts as one space (booth), and the total number of spaces varies widely—from around 50 to several hundred. Some popular genres exceed 500 spaces, while extremely niche, volunteer-run events can have fewer than 25.
Most only events are organized around a specific title, but some genres are niche to a degree that baffles outsiders. I’ve actually seen an only event devoted exclusively to nameless background characters from The Idolmaster…
>>9652 If it's a doujin event you can only hope someone has made something related to Koto to sell there. If you can't make it. Cross your fingers, pick a god and pray that the person who made it sells it on booth
>>9614 You said it yourself. 39chan is by otaku for otaku - it was literally created by a bunch of guys on 4chan's /jp/ board. This is strictly a Vocaloid site and if you don't know anything about Vocaloid or its culture I don't know why you're here in the first place. Twitter is full of extremists.
>>9725 Yeah, Meaty-P isn't popular by any means but he started by posting songs here. There are a few other producers who browse /leek/ but they didn't exactly start their careers here.
>>9726 Which ones? I know we have a few here too, but outside of the ones tripping or posting their songs directly in the producer thread or this one, I haven't noticed. I think it's cool.
>>9729 I haven't posted much, especially in my own thread, yet. I'm a casual browser, though. Typically, I'm anon when posting on this site. TD is short for Takoyaki Donuts.
>>9737 kemu had an affair with kashiwagi shiho, the former wife of yabuki kentarou (to LOVE ru's creator). shiho, kentarou's wife, was cheating on him with... no one other than vocaloid producer kemu. it should be noted that this incident of cheating affected kentarou to such an extent that the focus of the manga had to be changed, as one character was based on his wife. so we could say that kemu indirectly caused change of writing of a manga (and also caused a divorce).
>>9755 I really didn't like it. I also didn't like Weathergirl, Queen of Venus, Rawdog, and Electric Weekend Zone. Most of these make sense because I usually don't like Jamie's work, but I love VocaCircus so EWZ was disappointing. Water the Roses was just okay. I liked Static and Weiward Romance, but the only one I absolutely love was Butcher Vanity. I've discovered I really dislike a lot of the big producers right now and I feel like a boomer who exclusively listens to classic rock sometimes.
>>9759 I feel the same way about a lot of modern Vocaloid (especially western Vocaloid). No disrespect to the producers of course, they do their best, but a lot of it just isn't for me. The only recent producers I really like are TAK, Atena and Iyowa.
>>9764 Ironically, I feel that way about both the Western and Japanese community, finding myself listening to songs from between 2012 and 2019 the most, with some smaller Western producers interspersed and the occasional notable Western producer I actually like, such as R.I.P, I usually like Vane too but they're preoccupied with Flavor Foley. I miss Team 6x111 but that's never coming back, and even then while I like a lot of GHOST's newer songs, you could feel their exhaustion in how most of it sounded similar or lower effort before they retired. Recently I've been listening to a lot of Sweet Revenge. As far as Japanese producers go, I like some newer ones like Atena but I've recently found myself listening to a lot of Joruzin, Utsu-P, and Machigerita. I unfortunately am not as big a fan of TAK or Iyowa as most people here and I feel like that adds to the boomer feeling.
>>9765 >>9764 This kind of change was neccessary for Vocaloid to remain relevant for a modern audience. It's just the kind of music that resonates with the main target demographic these days. I personally don't really mind the new direction, Weathergirl really resonates with me on a deeper level. But I do find myself wishing we could get more stuff like Wildfire or Typewriter. I will say I feel like AI autotuning the songs makes them feel way less unique. Sure a lot of the old stuff sounds way jankier, but it feels like it gave the songs in general more soul.
>>9766 True enough, for me the GHOST copycat era resonated with me most despite discovering Vocaloid in 2013 and my first GHOST song being Foolish in 2014. I feel like my taste in music is fairly outdated in all regards, though. I don't necessarily mind SynthV but I wish people would use parameters at the minimum and I've seen multiple producers using untuned Miku in originals now, which hasn't been a wide scale problem since either around or before I was a fan. That's one issue, but I'm also really not into how everything sounds so similar instrumentally either. It's one thing to have a style, even the GHOST clones of old had notable differences in their style. There's some producers where if you held them side by side now, I couldn't tell other than (perhaps) the art style or the vsynths used.
>>9765 I'm kinda just tired of the fast paced songs with cool music videos that feel like they're made to go viral. Which probably feels hypocritical considering I mentioned TAK, Iyowa and Atena who all do this, but TAK and Atena at least bring their own unique take on it and Iyowa makes some really weird dissonant experimental jazz that I've never heard before. But man I kinda wish we would just go back to still images and guitars (like niki). There's a few producers still doing this but they barely get any views.
>>9773 That's just the new meta unfortunately You need a catchy fast paced song and an animated MV to go viral
Iyowa's a smart guy, his music has always sounded the same but he used to make still image MVs, he now animates them so as you'd expect his stuff blew up
>>9773 Absolutely. I also feel like when you're being unique song wise, having a still image is a nice tradeoff. I've found myself listening to a lot of producers under 5k recently because they're usually more guaranteed to have a lot of effort put in, even if it occasionally isn't my thing. >>9774 I can't wait for the end of the Mesmerizer effect...in 2027 or something.
>>9799 god i wish they would add this to a concert setlist at some point but i guess the closest we'll ever get to that is wagakki band's performance of it https://youtube.com/watch?v=kSJNMQrrgvo [Embed]
>>9828 Some peeps over at /live/ were discussing doing something like this but considering the average 39channer is broke I don't see it happening. You could always set up a Kickstarter like AkiGlancy did with VOCAMERICA if you're serious about it but I'm not sure that's the greatest idea.
>>9829 Honestly it’s probably just going to be easier in the long run to save up for a cheap projector and speakers, then you can just have MMD hologram ready videos playing
>>9843 I think the least we can do is some sort of meetup including what you just mentioned, but are we willing to travel miles to be in a room with stinky women and gay dudes from the miku version of 4chan?
I don't expect anything to come out of this but if someone here is actually willing to make it happen: get a team, because it's a huge pain in the ass. A single person can't do this.
You need a motion graphics guy, a really good animator or someone with access to mocap (there's this argentinian group that does fan concerts and they use real mocap from dancers), and an entire team of people with all the necessary equipment: think projectors, that transparent fabric, speakers, etc. The reason you'd need a lot of people across the country/countries is so that different states/countries can have the same experience without you having to travel across the entire continent with the equipment.
Additionally you'd also have to get in contact with people who work with convention events to ask if you could host the concert there, or rent out a venue yourself.
Maybe I'm mistaken and there's an easier way to do this but if you're serious about it that's one way you can go about it I guess.
>>9851 I probably worded this weirdly so I apologize (ESL-kun). But basically what I'm trying to say is that if some anon in... let's say, Canada, has all the equipment and another anon in Los Angeles does too, there's no need to travel from one place to another. Or at least that's how I see it.
>>9851 the panama one you linked is very impressive just for the fact that they bothered to translate the songs in spanish. or at least electric angel, i didnt watch the full thing.
>>9855 >Ai No Uta >39 Music >Hibikase >Shinkai Shoujo >Strobe Light >Melancholic >Rin Rin Signal >Nostalogic >Luka Luka Night Fever >Just Be Friends >Cantarella
Anyone else think this song is kind of lame? It doesn't really have a "song" factor to it, just a few collections of not-so-catchy notes, theorybait/lorebait MV (animated by catstation too, way on the nose), and 3edgy5me magical girl theming. It's just so lame bro, miku deserves better than this.
>>9893 miku deserves to go through 9 rings of hell but i agree
i don't hate channel's style, but as people say "the worst thing to do to me is to force me to eat nothing but my favourite dish everyday", and it doesn't even fit with the whole vn thing it's going for
>>9893 disagree, i quite like it, and i don't find it to be lorebait-y in any way, it's rather self-contained as far as i know. having channel animate the mv i will agree is a strange choice but in the end i think it looks good. i'm not aware of any other 'edgy' mahou shoujo songs other than magical girl and chocolate & that one kairiki bear song, so i welcome this with open arms.
>>9902 i sure hope not! quick, someone talk about a song or producer that they like
