Thank you for coming to the 3-day meetup at Otakon 2026.

With how often this site gets updated I figured I'd make a thread for news as well as feedback in case you want to suggest things, report bugs, etc. The original suggestions/complaints thread will be locked for archival purposes, use this thread from now on.

As of December 27, 2024 we've introduced BBCode, courtesy of Rads from Rotting Angels. BBCode for font sizes has also been removed to prevent abuse. Regular chan markup still works alongside it I believe.

I found out about a cooler looking noise maker. Can do it in gif form instead of a static image. Takes a lot to mess with to get results that look good though. Probably not needed right now but might be good for future reference.

I can post replies fine but trying to make a thread (in Firefox if it matters) I get a timeout:
>{"readyState":4,"responseText":"<html>\r\n<head><title>504 Gateway Time-out</title></head>\r\n<body>\r\n<center><h1>504 Gateway Time-out</h1></center>\r\n<hr><center>nginx</center>\r\n</body>\r\n</html>\r\n","status":504,"statusText":"error"}
On a pretty barebones Chrome I get:
>{"readyState":0,"status":0,"statusText":"error"}
Anything I should be looking out for or trying to fix this?

Apparently it was two things. It didn't like one of the links in the post and then taking those out I got:
>Invalid image.
Reencoding it fixed it, but the error reporting seems like it could be better.

Ever noticed those rotating banners a the bottom of the post creation form? Well, we're in need of new ones, and this time we're letting you design them. Choose your favorite 39chan board and get creative.

Post custom themes or userscripts you've made for 39chan in this thread.

Here is one i published recently which lets you know when a thread is about to hit bump limit.

It can also be loaded without having Tampermonkey installed by copying the code into 39chan's Options -> User JS.

hiii admin, i wondered, im not the best at coding, how does the clock on the mainpage work, i kinda wanted to add something like that to my own site

 No.1025

It's just javascript and an image (although the image is supposed to change between day/night but the night animation isn't finished so day is being used as the placeholder for night)

I don't really know how to explain JS to you but you can get a clock widget off any old blogspot site or vibecode it if you're lazy.

What is Vocaloradio
Vocaloradio is a 24/7 internet radio station that exclusively plays Vocaloid songs & covers.
Tuesdays are dedicated to Kasane Teto, and are therefore, Teto Tuesdays.

Listen here
https://39chan.moe/radio.html
And if there's songs you want to submit drop them here.

Please do NOT use embeds to send songs, just drop the youtube/nicovideo links here.

I don’t know if this is really a good place for this but I’m not sure where else to vent about it. I used to be a 4channer a few years ago before leaving. I’ve been a vocaloid fan for a long time and only found out about 39chan because Smith Hioka did a Q&A here. One of the reasons I left 4chan/any other boards is that I’m fairly sensitive person and have some sense of PTSD due to the csem spam that gets spread around these kinds of sites. (Other shock images like gore, etc I can handle tho). From the other thread someone made here about moderation and my own experience lurking, this place is very safe. My issue started to replague me when I visited the “friends of 39chan” and went from wapchan to mootxico which had csem spam on it. I realize this usually isn’t the site admin’s fault and these spammers have been around for decades now. (Side note however, mootxico has willingly left of baby money torture on his boards and defended keeping it up but that’s a story for a different time)

Anyways this association fires up my OCD and gives me that sense of contamination and unsafeness. Like being here on 39 is just two clicks away from being somewhere that that material gets posted. I realize this is all retarded and my post will probably be deleted but I thought maybe your insights or kind words might be helpful.

I've seen it on forums as well actually but it's slightly less common because forums require accounts and usually have tons of captchas everywhere

 No.1003

>>1001
39chan and all of the sites in the friends section don't have this problem so its not impossible, but it is a pain in the ass to deal with indeed, especially if your site is small and you have little to no coding knowledge

 No.1005

>>1002
I've never seen that type of spam on forums personally, though i've heard that it does happen. But what I have seen are a lot of Chinese bots on the dying platform that is ProBoards and those "Free adult hookup" bots.

I also know that the same bots that post those awful, graphic images post the same shit on piracy related chatrooms on sites like Chatango.

 No.1006

>>1002
Bots actually can make accounts by automation easily enough if the signup form has labelled fields but these bots more often are just spamming advertisements and usually only illegal stuff is trying to sell drugs or claim they are to con people.

We had around 10 unique IPs around September when the site launched. We're nearing the end of October and now we have 117 unique IPs. I think it's pretty clear that the site is growing. It's also clear that a lot of anons here have never touched an imageboard in their lives before 39ch by the way some posts read more like forum posts than imageboard posts. Despite all that I feel like the site currently has its own culture of sorts: we have people making OC on /o/ and /leek/, we have frequent recognizable posters like menheranon, etc.

Is it schizo to worry that if the site becomes bigger a lot of that would be lost like it happened to 4chan and 8chan?.

Yeah, longevity matters a lot more for PPD. Anyone can boot up something with Wakaba et al and launch an altchan, but few last after they inevitably slow to a crawl and a disinterested admin shuts it down.

39chan has a better shot, probably (I check here more than most other sites), but it's not like Mikuchan didn't have healthy activity at one point too.

NTA but 39chan has already shut down once. After that it was picked up by a team and brought back. Considering figamin is a member and he has owned Wapchan for about 4 years now I have faith that it'll remain up for at least a decade now. T39-era 39chan has been relatively stable compared to the period before that.

I gave it a shot, but the one feature that I actually want - to sort the board/catalog/all by last reply (ignoring sage/bump limit/lock) - either isn't there or doesn't work for me. Unlike 4chan, the default script for 39chan is basically fine, and I don't really use other altchans at the moment, so I think I'll still with 4chan X.

 No.872[Reply]

How good is the moderation on here? I'm usually scared of going on imageboards because of pedo spammers but since Neru's creator felt comfortable hosting an AMA here maybe it's safe and well moderated? I know some of the other sites in the webring are not as well modded so I'm super cautious about any imageboard that isn't 4chan. Even lainchan hasn't been holding up as well as they used to.

No complaints on my part, and I've never seen anyone post CSAM. Even so, if someone posts it, its likely a bot hosted in bumfuck Russia rather than an actual user. They target imageboards all the time.
The only bans I've seen here have been deserved but that's only the public ones, idk about private ones.

 No.896

I'll add this though. I've had friends be warned before for posting political content/derailing threads. Warnings are like temporary bans that can last between 5 minutes to an hour.

 No.897

>>893
Clearing on exist is probably okay enough but ideally I'd turn off disk cache or reduce the cache size to 0 in size. I turn it off entirely because sometimes bad caches make sites load wrong images and because when it goes to disk it reduces disk writes and I don't really see much improvement in page loading speed with cache on. Firefox config isn't that scary to mess with. I've done all sorts of modifications and you can reverse them all if you remember what ones you modified.

Mikuchan.org used to have international boards. One was Japanese, and I think they had a Spanish one too.

 No.864

Building a Japanese board won't form a Japanese userbase. That's before you even confront that most Japanese fans are dismissive of overseas fandom or actively deride it.

 No.865

>>863
>>864
Maybe /negi/ would have more activity if its scope was broadened. Instead of just Japanese, it could allow all languages, and could have flags like /int/; a cultural exchange board but for Vocaloid specifically. That way its activity would not be entirely dependent on its Japanese userbase; we probably have multilingual posters on /leek/ already. But it could invite a lot really dumb nationalism, which could spread to the rest of the site, and moderating it would be headache.

 No.866

>>865
I'd say keep the site in English. Only a small amount of Japanese users post on the site and when they do they type in English (see >>>/j/322). Same applies to the other non-Japanese posters.

YouTube embeds should use the privacy-enhanced NoCookie mode. It's moderately less invasive to privacy. All it does is make it so the embeds don't load a cookie until you play a video. Should in theory make pages load moderately faster too since less calls to outside sources. It's not very complicated to setup and it if done right wont break the current embeds. You also need to manually enable full screen in the embeds, that's why when you try to go full screen it wont let you. I assume this is just something that was not known about rather than a conscious decision to not have full screen.

Starting today, the old Oekaki board will be replaced with Potiboard, a Futaba based tool which lets you draw using PaintBBS, Tegaki, Axnos Paint, Shi-Painter and more. Those of you who used Vocaloidism back in the day are probably familiar with this format as it was used by that site as well in the early 2010's.

>What will happen to Drawthreads?

Threads where you can request drawings will continue to be allowed on /leek/. In case of NSFW requests, it is recommended that any lewd imagery regardless of whether it is a reference pic or a delivery, should be kept off-site. We recommend the site Catbox: https://catbox.moe/

>So is /o/ completely gone now?

Nay, you can still access it, you just won't be able to post on it. The board is locked and archived, and will remain up for as long as 39chan itself lives.

>What is allowed and what isn't?

So far we don't have any restrictions on what cannot be drawn aside from "spammy" drawings such as stickman penises and the type of "art" you'd expect to see from an elementary schooler with access to a pen and paper, those will be deleted on sight. Of course, drawings must remain Vocaloid related, this is a Vocaloid site after all.

>What if I want to share art that's neither a delivery or a request?

/leek/ has an original content thread: >>>/leek/10912
