Nah, the old thread was still on topic. The SynthV cracking team was shady. But anyway I don't wanna derail this one.

Do you all use your mouse or MIDI keyboard for making chords & melodies? It seems this is the one thing stopping me. Any advice for people who’ve never finished a song?

>>18845
Mouse is fine unless you need to play something live. That said I’ve never finished a song either since I can’t into instrumentation, so grain of salt

I recently installed OpenUtau and made this nonsense with Toriko from an old MuseScore thing I created years ago. I don't know what I'm doing.

Are you a fan of Cyriak by chance? Sounds a lot like his music

This is what i was thinking of

>>18662
I always get so anxious to post my originals anywhere. I've been collabing a lot with one producer in particular and it's been going really well so far. I've been told my talent shines as far as tuning goes whereas my instrumentals are awful, so this lets me play to my strengths. All my originals except for one I unlisted have used wholoids simply because I love them

>>18873
I haven't heard of him, but I see what you mean. I like it. Appreciate the rec

wip, i wasn't sure how to continue the second part or what to write for lyrics. i like the miku 'ah's in the background too much to abandon it though

I am not really ready to make music, rather am just been messing around to get a feel for music through various means. Thought Id share something that can be used to get ideas without using AI junkware. A random music generator.

It is kind of fun to try to make chaos sound more musical but still chaotic. For example I made this from the random pattern it generated. You just have to pick the right instruments and roles and tuning and tempo to not make your ears bleed.

Reminds me a little of Dunc's Algomusic

I feel unable to write songs that aren't in 4/4 lately

>>19520
Do you listen to much in anything else?

Anyone doing vocagathering this year? I would but i'm a procrastinator

How important is knowing music theory and how do you go about learning it including the cord progressions a lot of Japanese musicians like to use?

>>20244
It's not important at all. You've probably heard this before but Kikuo's music teacher once told him not to learn music theory because it'd make his music boring.

I'm a producer myself and all the lyrics and melodies really just come from my mind, I never studied music.

>>20247
Interesting. I previously heard different elsewhere that learning music theory is good even if you don't follow all the rules since you don't have to do as much trial and error to find the rules again and know what rule you are breaking that works.

Lyrics in terms of how they flow are something I'd have little issue with...well in English anyway, since I have written poetry since I was a kid. Basically same thing more or less. It's just everything else I never figure how to put together too well nor have I had much luck learning on playing instruments either but that was all entirely self experimenting with no guidance whatsoever so not too much a surprise.

>>20255
Lyrics are my weak point just for the fact that I'm ESL. It makes me wonder how people like ippo.tsk do it. He's Indonesian but his lyrics are better than most of what American producers write.

>>20256
Pretty sure Indonesians use English too, I've seen a lot of them type sentences with words in their language and then it ends with a bunch of English ones

>>20357
Do they use it as their second language or something

>>18845
I use a mouse but you're probably better off using a Midi keyboard if you own one

>>21166
Yamaha psr260 good enough? I got that goofy cheesy sounding thing

Unless you make really complex stuff i don't think you need a midi keyboard

I have a question for producers
Do you hate your most popular song? And if so, why?

>>21669
Yeah. I think my most popular song (A Letter From) has some of my worst lyrics and doesn't represent my current style.

There was a time when I was proud of it but I realized it sounded too much like what everyone else was making, so starting with Fish I began putting more effort into my music and into trying to do my own thing. But unfortunately the letter song remains my most popular.

I also hate that people keep comparing it to that one beat_shobon song. Nothing against the guy, I love him in fact (no homo), but my song's got no similarities with his other than the use of Teto and "biggest fan" being in the lyrics. It gets tiring having to clarify that my song isn't meant to be a sequel, a prequel or a diss track to his song, its none of those things.

>>21670
You two should collab if you ever get the chance

>>21669
I don’t, but don’t see it as fully reflective of my current abilities.

I grew my skills a lot over the years and the one song I probably hate the most is the one I did with Tsudumi. It’s not the worst song I’ve ever made but that song I have always felt never accurately reflected what I was trying to say and it felt rocky all around.

As for what would be my most popular, there is two answers right now but neither I hate. Like I said I’ve just grown my skills. I would love to reapproach those themes in the future but I see them as stepping stones and think what I’m making now is stronger than before.

>>21815
I know you from the stickman song which i really liked

>>21673
Oh trust me it'd be a dream come true. But i'm a low profile guy and i don't usually interact with the community so the chances of me collaborating with anyone outside of my existing friend circle is very unlikely. I'm open to anything though.

>>21894
>i'm a low profile guy and i don't usually interact with the community
Not that anon but I respect that a lot

If I ever get enough peace to try producing what do I do if I want to use live instruments but suck at playing? I may want to record my own samples or something but how do I do that without having to invest a ton of money into the best recording equipment? Also how do I even decide what vocal synth program to use?

>>21817
That song is genuinely so underrated tho. How did it not blow up?

>>22004
Honestly, you don’t need to have the best equipment or anything. First thing’s first is literally just to find an instrument you like and learn to play it. Don’t rush into recording the instrument right away if you don’t know how to play it otherwise you’re just going to get frustrated.once you feel confident, then start recording. Don’t worry about having amazing equipment in the beginning either if you’re on a tight budget. There’s lots of good budget options including used equipment. If you’re fortunate enough to have a local store, demo the equipment as well. Find what you like best.

As for picking a Vocaloid and software, either pick a character you like or narrow down your needs. There’s of course the free options like Utau and Diffsinger, we got our leekaloids, but if you want to use something commercial like vocaloid, free trials are your best friend. Don’t rush to pick either. There’s like a million options out there these days. Of course you could always just default to Miku or Teto as well but if you wanna use someone else, you got time.

>>22012
Because there's no OC in the MV

>>22014
Maybe not best but I figured mid range quality might be better to start than something very low quality for recording unless I want the characteristics of cheap microphones intentionally. Well yeah I know I couldn't use instruments without learning them which takes time and is why I brought up using them for making my own samples as one way to make use of my small eclectic collection of instruments. I also am into a large variety of music so I can see myself potentially being all over the place and getting nowhere as a result. Like the time I tried to learn 5 languages at once.

I of course know what characters and voicebanks I like, the issue is picking the right one for a song and knowing what software is easiest to work with without a huge learning curve and just trying a bunch out it can be difficult to have enough time with each to really get a proper feel but then there is the whole issue of some characters for some but not others or each program has it's own sound to it. Feels kind of overwhelming.

>>21817
>>22012
Yeah stickman was great. We need more Vocaloid post-punk/new wave.

>>21817
>>22012
>>22104
Appreciating the stick love

>>22085
I def agree with anon. Take advantage of the free trials if you don’t already own the voicebanks you like. What I tend to do if I am making a song but don’t know what vocal to use is make a snippet of melody and lyrics and put it to each vocal I think would suit the song well, then pick from there. Sometimes certain vbs will mesh with the background music better than others. It does add a bit more time to the process of course, but no harm in taking the time you need to make something great.

>>22239
I have not been able to experiment because currently lacking a proper computer just have some old not well working with Windows and MacOS otherwise just have my Android phone and an iPad I currently cant use until I fix an accidental password lockout. Also if I get a computer I am getting weirded out by recent corporate and government moves so might wind up on Linux or BSD or the very least avoid Windows which there is potential compatibility issues in any case. Maybe that needs it's own topic if it doesnt already since it has less to do with production.

>>22246
I've been wanting to switch to Linux but as a producer who has used FL Studio for almost 12 years now it kinda sucks to know that support for it on Linux systems can range from meh to completely unusable so I'm stuck with Windows 10 (ain't touching the vibecoded kuso that is Windows 11)

>>22248
I’ve heard good things about Bottles for audio software, but yeah, audio is the thing keeping me with a Win10 dual boot. The Vocaloid engine itself and some VSTs are keeping me there personally. Otherwise I’m a Bitwig user which is linux native.

>>22250
nta but i believe there's a couple open source projects that bring vocaloid to linux, i think one of them was tunelab

>>22251
>tunelab
Small correction, Tunelab is apparently Windows only. Forgot which one it was.

>>22248
Version 7 of FL Studio has platinum rating by WINE apparently while more recent is bad.
https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=178

>>22250
Oddly first I heard of Bottles, I just know of WINE, Proton, and more recently WinBoat. Last one requires a Windows install but I think it should work with Tiny11 in theory.

I heard Ardour is good for music production and it is FOSS. Found about it from this unfa guy which has a channel for Linux music production.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAYKj_peyESIMDp5LtHlH2A

But yeah there is the issue of the vocal synth softwares themselves.

>>22262
I use the latest version

>>22262
Bottles is just a wrapper for WINE/Proton stuff (it makes a VN for you with customization options). I found it easier to use than some other methods

Wouldn't you technically be able to run Vocaloid and FL Studio if you ran Windows 10 on a virtual machine on a Linux distro?

>>22266
Yeah though you need a lot of RAM for that I think. Can be reduced if you use one of the Tiny modifications of Windows though but I don't know how safe they are. Then also can not have to deal with second desktop environment from a VM if you use WinBoat from what I heard about it.

Someone who is used to Linux or BSD should try everything out for us to report back what methods work well for what.

>>22270
>I don't know how safe they are
I mean if you're gonna use it just for FL Studio and Vocaloid which you'll most likely pirate in the first place i don't think that's much of a concern

>>22250
My laptop is out of order right now (probably an electrical issue sadly) and thus I can't use FL Studio right now, because for some unholy reason Bottles refuses to run it on Steam Deck and Flatpaks already don't work properly on it (I can't open links or files on them)
Wizard101 of all things runs with Bottles, though, and I thought that was a lost cause between standard Wine and Lutris.

>>22325
I have similar issue with a spare laptop that belonged to my sister. Wont charge or start even if battery removed and plugged in so might be a mosfet burnout or something.

Part of why I am considering getting an analogue synth and maybe drum machine and sequencer. Which also makes me wonder if you can do synth vocals that way with decent results or not. I would think anything sample based would not work all that well as we know from things like the Pocket Miku and the like. I think it should be possible to reproduce Rei same way her voice was made to begin with if the exact frequencies and waves and all that info is known. Although similar issue it would be very difficult to live convey actual lyrics just a sort of droned singing unless the tempo is very slow lol

>>22262
Which ones do work on Linux? I know Utau does

>>22351
SynthV is also supported through a native Linux version.

For Linux DAWs there is Reaper which is free and on par with FL

>>22351
>>22399
Also NEUTRINO but has to be compiled from source I think. Code hosted on SourceForge.

Something I forgot to mention. If you want to use Linux but WINE/Bottles doesnt work and if you font want to touch Windows at all with a dual boot, virtual machine or WinBoat could in cases there is a macOS version try to see if Darling runs any better or worse. Darling is basically same idea as WINE but for Mac programs instead of Windows programs.

What musical scale do Japanese producers use most often? I am finding contradictory English info when it comes to modern music some saying Han-Kumoi, some saying Hira-Joshi and others say they use same Major and Minor scale as most Western music and then other sources go into other scales. My ears are not musically trained enough at the moment to pick it out.

I made mistake of doing this as a digital file instead of a small notebook but I like to write down words that sound good together along with phrases and quotes I like but not put them to any song writing right away. Just have it for future reference to help things flow out. I would say you should try out different poetry writing methods just to see what feels good to you to get an idea of structure and how to break down the structure into something unique if you want to deviate.

Haniwa used Cubase then switched to Ableton Live in late 2018 finding it more enjoyable and easy to use and more like playing an instrument.

Other gear includes
MIDI keyboard: KOMPLETE KONTROL
MIDI pad control/groovebox: Novation LaunchPad Pro MK3
Foot controller: Roland FC300 (started using it because of doing VR shows)
Audio interface: RME Babyface Pro FS

Plugins:
FabFilter (for EQ, compress, delay)
Oeksound Soothe2 (same purposes?)
SERUM (synthesizer)
NEXUS (samples from presets)
IK Media AmpliTube (guitar effect used on VOICEROID vocals to soften them)
Valhalla VintageVerb (for VOICEPEAK vocals)
Scaler2 (music theory chord progression aid)

The Novation Launchpad Pro MK3 is not a groovebox, rather it is a sequencer. I was thinking of a different product they have. My bad. Actually I am still not sure I know what is a groovebox.

Cubase is popular in the JP scene specifically because Vocaloid has a special plug in for it. I think Vocaloid comes with a stripped down version of Cubase too. IMO the UI sucks though.

Do any of you guys kinda feel left out seeing all these western producers always interacting and collaborating with eachother or is it just me? It kinda gives me that same feeling I'd get in elementary school when there was a group of cool kids who did cool shit and you looked up to them but at the same time it felt like you were too "uncool" to hang out with them, ya know?

I don't want to be popular btw, it's just a shower thought.

>>25106
I personally don't care but it'd definitely be nice to have collaborators so i don't have to do everything myself

Okay here goes again

Higma uses Ableton Live

Plugins:

WAVES AUDIO Electric 88 Piano (before switching to previous mentioned)

Samples:

I am starting to see how some gearheads get addicted to buying stuff. I havent even produced anything yet and just see something cool sounding and want it. >>25106
Eh, a little

Do you guys usually write the lyrics first or the melody

>>26304
I prefer melody first. But I also find lyrics really hard, so…

>>26304
I have only done lyric writing before and have no idea how to connect lyrics to a melody. Part ow why I have not made anything still....that and no working computer.

>>26327
I struggle with this too

>>26327
I'm a newbie too but I've actually started to figure out how to make this work! What I do is I sing the lyrics into my phone mic while tapping to achieve a metronome effect. Then I go into my DAW and try and line up the DAW metronome with my tapping audio. Then I just listen back to the audio to make sure that the notes line up with the points where I sing. The tapping is actually pretty helpful for that since you can visualize it as 'did I say this word before or after this tap?'. I think it'd be fine to combine this method with improv-ing the melody a bit too, so you can get the structure down even when you don't have every lyric figured out while still knowing that you have the lyrics that you care the most about implemented as intended.

>>26349
If you use SynthV you can actually convert your singing to notes though it's not 100% accurate and you have to do some manual editing

>>26350
I have actually tried this a couple times too! I did struggle with making it feel on tempo though so I guess it's still kind of a thorough progress in it's own way. I think my preference is manually writing notes since it provides a lot more control.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=SnVbZxkbr24

I just watched this vid and I never noticed how many Japanese songs use a disco beat. I did not even recognize it as that.

>>26627
I noticed this a while back. J-Pop loves using the disco beat, release cut piano, funk/math rock guitars, etc. I try to use it in my songs but I'm not great at composing melodies, let alone writing lyrics, eugh.

>>26627
Are there any non-Japanse songs (Vocaloid or not) that use this "Jersey beat" the video describes?

Yeah, the entire Jersey Club genre lol

>>26627
Isn’t the drum beat this video describes just … the kick drum playing quarter notes? I don’t think the snare on beats 2 and 4 is particularly unusual either.

I nearly forgot to post this useful site. A lot of genres are missing and some over generalizations like saying Asian Pop came from Eurobeat but did not elaborate on the later changes but there is plenty of electronic genres mapped on here with examples for different years. At least he remembered to include Freeform (aka Trancecore) which is what a lot of J-core falls under.

As a small producer, how do you meet potential collaborators or friends who can give you advice on production stuff? Obviously big names like Circus, Creep, Shobon, Menace, etc are beyond my reach. That's like being an indie Bandcamp artist and trying to collaborate with someone like Taylor Swift.

But I think I have a chance with niche producers like myself. Small prods are often more open to collaborating with other small prods. The issue is I don't know how to approach them. I only use Twitter to promote my music and nothing else.

>>26818
You could try getting in contact with an UTAU cover artist, they're usually great at tuning

>>26818
DM producers under 10k followers, talk to them casually, even try to hone in on people to become mutuals with first if you're comfortable with that whole rigamarole. Focus on people you notice will follow more casually rather than super closed off people who have only followed back 5 people total.

If you don't want to do the chummy stuff you could always just straightforwardly try something along the lines of 'hi heres examples of my music i love yours and id love to collab with you if you were interested since our work is adjacent'. Most laymen who make music see themself on an even playing field with everyone else, it's usually just a case of how sociable someone is in terms of whether they'll be interested in responding. That even applies to some people who have multi-million streams hit music, but obviously aim for people below that threshold. Not that those people are inherently full of themselves, they're probably just more seated in the connections they've already attained.

This is a bit out of the scope of what you were specifically asking, but outside of that sort of driven style of networking, also just make some friends who are generally into making/playing music even outside of Vocaloid. You're bound to eventually meet someone who does music if you're around enough artsy spaces. Just knowing a guy or two is enough for them to redirect you to plugins, sound repositories, general advice, etc.

>>26828
Thanks. I'm not really social myself so I don't really go around DMing people or even interacting with them that much. Like I said I only use Twitter to promote my music because unfortunately it's very effective for that. But I'm also the kind of guy who'd be open to collaborating with anybody. Maybe I'll give it a shot.
>just make some friends who are generally into making/playing music even outside of Vocaloid
I only know one person, but they have a love/hate relationship with Vocaloid leaning more towards hate. I honestly don't know where the real musicians hang out.

>>26829
I'm similar, so I'm definitely tentative to just say 'yeah man just be good at talking to people and fundamentally sociable and outgoing' since I already kind of assume the average person on here isn't particularly predisposed to all that. I hope that the less socializing-heavy options I gave can still be useful, at least.

And yeah, from what I can tell musicians are super dispersed and therefore kind of hard to immediately find in regular groups. Most of my advice stems from knowledge gleaned from making connections in illustrative art spaces instead. I only really have 2 music friends myself, one of them doesn't seem to interact with fellow music people much at all, but the other does seem to have a circle of sorts in the community he's a part of.
When it comes to the 'being part of a circle' thing, being invited to a musician hangout spaces is definitely mostly Dicksword oriented these days though so I didn't really initially bring that up either assuming people here would also be adverse to that even though its probably the most effective way to find new people en masse haha. Making connections is a fundamentally networking oriented process, and networking is something that will feel more or less laborious depending on the kind of personality you have, but don't think that you're incapable of it on those merits. There's definitely ways to find a balance between being mindful of your own comfort and reaching out just enough that you can still get the opportunities you want.

>>26818
If your music is better than the avg newbie who picks up the FL Studio demo and starts making songs with the default drumkit then chances are a VocaP of the same level will eventually run into your music and there you have a potential collaborator. Another way to get your name out there is joining collab albums.

As a producer what's your biggest dream/goal? Yes I'm talking to (You) anon, tell me

>>27842
I wanna learn guitar for Vocaloid purposes and lean into rock. I’d like to do some justice to a song that’s personal to me. I would also like to do some dope music videos with the goal of reaching maybe 20k-30k viewcount.

>>27842
This is shooting really high but I would love to collab with some big name Eng Vocaloid producers sometime. That's right. Catch anon as the official 4th Flavor Foley member

toriko.mp3 - 705.16 KB

I'm not sure if I'll keep Toriko in this, I have a lot of Vocals that can fit the song, and I guess it's a mix of whose easiest to render & tune, and who fits the song best.
It'll eventually have another Vocal track layering over it with mostly different lyrics, I just didn't render it because I couldn't find a fitting vocal to pair with Toriko without rendering it in another program, but I feel like she'd work well with Luka.

>>30235
Also the lyrics are a placeholder and the instrumental isn't finished, ironically I tend to finish my tuning before much else.

>>30235
Very cool

>>30235
What are the lyrics

>>30238
Thanks!
>>30241
They're pretty bad, but as I said it's more of a placeholder. If I figure out a way to make it sound better or get better ideas for replacement lyrics I'll just input those but the lyrics featured are as follows:
"Smile, revile
Blurred colors mix with bile
Replay, remake
You're fake"
It's mostly me doing semi-random rhymes since this is a backing track/adlib type thing and the main track will have similar, but more complete lyrics. Putting down random ones as placeholders (usually partially or fully on theme) help me come up with more "complete" lyrics later. I should probably stop using my USTx/VSQx/SVP files as notepads but it's fun to me.
I guess my idea for what I do is the internal thoughts of the thinker while the main track are words actually spoken or expressed somehow.

>>30302
Hope you don't mind me trying to roll with the vibe making a variation to see if it helps you any...or confuses you more

You smiiiile
I reviiile
Shades of red miix with biiile
You're so viiiiiiiiiiile
Reemaaake for my saaaake

Color sounded too awkward to me it needed a short word IMHO. I didn't know what you were going for with the "replay, remake" part so I left part out that i found confusing.

toriko_2.mp3 - 705.16 KB

>>30321
Fair! I re-rendered it with what you wrote, I do truly appreciate this as I can either write great lyrics or the worst thing you've ever heard with no in-between. I might change the end of it a bit but I greatly prefer this to what I rendered at midnight.
If anything, I think you actually gave me a decent idea for more lyrics and a general theming rather than trying 2 or 3 different things and throwing them at the wall. Thank you!

>>30340
Glad it helped. Though I noticed a side effect that now the L in smile is more difficult to hear likely because of being followed by same vowel making it sound like "smyyy" almost. Maybe a tiny pause after "smile" before "I" or holding the word "I" a tiny bit longer or writing it as "eye" might help that? I wouldn't know the tricks around these issues though since havent produced before just going off logic. I just added "I" to add more syllables and sound more narrative. Might be my crappy speakers though.

I really like the glitchy distorted sound of this
I have never heard anything like this in Vocaloid before

>>30390
thanks i was inspired by a certain album with no cover

>>30389
do you have a specific theme in mind

>>30393
No not really. I made this song as a demo for a potential collab with YOSU of Watashi no Koko but kinda abandoned it when he declined and im only now working on it again.

>>30389
solid production anon

>>30356
Yeah, you're right. I'm admittedly not familiar with TORIKO's phonemes in particular just yet, but I think I fixed it by moving her 'l' phoneme back a bit. Diffsinger seems similar to C+V so I figured that was the easiest way to do it.
>>30356
This is really nice anon, I wish we had more songs with this type of sound, I can see myself looping it for forever. Do you have a vocal in mind? I can see it working with a more powerful vocal like Miki, Len, Kiyoteru, VFlower, Lily, Ruby etc etc. It could probably also work with a less powerful but not-exactly soft one like Luka or Gumi.

>>30400
I was gonna use either Miku or Luka but I'm thinking IA could also work

>>30389
This sounds like Yeezus

>>30402
Yeah that was one of my influences, you got me anon

>>30389
Really hope you end up finishing this because I've been listening to your short demo on loop

>>30401
Thinking it could make a good riko song too

>>30411
Sadly i cant promise that i will because I'm really bad with lyrics and vocal melodies. That's why I'm asking for help.

>>30389
This is kind of electro-industrial and darksynth sounding so I feel like this is just an intro without vocals for a track of around 7 minutes. It feels like there isnt room for lyrics in this section from how strong the bassline comes in unless you went for a sort of whispery and breathy shouty vocals but then the synths come in where that doesnt work as well anymore. Ive been listening to this on a loop for an hour and lyrics arent coming to me so I say just go a bit further in progression to see if there is a space for vocals to breathe. It may wind up needing powerful sounding vocals if it keeps that energy you were building up but at this point it feels like it isnt sure if it wants to be melancholic dark calm or about to rise into something more trance like. Get what I mean? If you don't want a particularly long track the slow tempo makes that more difficult though nog impossible.

>>30439
More like it feels made for rap vocals

>>30449
Yeah I got it could be but felt it could go a bit different way

Producer bros is there an easier way to make Japanese vocaloids like Iroha and Lapis sing in English nowadays?

>>31267
Yeah, use the M_0 phoneme alongside a consonant on a 1/64th or 1/32nd note.
Basically, if you have two consonants together, such as in "scope," you'd do [s M_0][k o][p M_0]. Some Japanese Vocaloids can actually sound out an "s" without a vowel, but most seemingly can't do it, or at least can't pronounce it as clear as an Engloid. N's, n's, and m's are also perfectly fine on their own without M_0.

>>31282
I'm stupid, do you have video demonstration?

>>31267
I mean there’s of course Iroha SV lol that makes it super easy, but for the old Vocaloid banks specifically people have made dictionaries and there’s also a few job plugins to help convert the phonetics. Unfortunately this is V4 stuff. If anything it’s harder to do it now than before when it comes to these older banks.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=UkgA69DxyGA

>>31267
I know you're asking about JP>EN but i realized a method of doing EN>JP is by typing words that are pronounced similarly to the Japanese phonemes like in this Sonika cover

>>31283
No, but here's one of my projects for a cover I did where I used that method. I used Lily for this part, and a lot of JP -> EN pronunciation depends on both the Vocaloid and the person doing the phoneme placement.
The other Vocaloid I used sounded pretty bad in retrospect, JP loids are way more of my specialty than certain Engloids I think.

>>31284
If you happen to have an AI voicebank, some people use VocalMorph to have them assist with pronunciation. You have to be cautious to avoid the other voicebank's sound taking over, though.

>>31501
Isn't this seen as cheating? Like using RVC?

>>31510
I'm not sure, I think I've only seen people get mad at people who don't disclose it. It's definitely not a shortcut like RVC.

>>31501
So what is it doing exactly? Melding different voice banks together to fill in missing phonemes?

https://youtube.com/watch?v=MKWxM2Vygks

>>31524
It's an editor for splicing the frequencies of two vocal renders. This tutorial does a decent job at explaining it.

>>31526
Last time i tried Vocalmorph my pc couldn't run it. I'll try again.

>>31501
Voice is probably not the best example here for morphing AI banks because it’s not using 2 sets of vbs to morph, it’s morphed with human vocals.

>>31545
I heard it was SynthV, not sure if anything definitive came out though

>>31526

>>31627
Same. Making short VGM-y stuff is a lot more approachable 90% of the time especially for a noob like me. At least I feel like I'm learning something new with each new attempt so it doesn't feel unproductive even if it's hard to lock down and make a full lyrical song

I wish more songs like this came out in the modern Vocaloid era, I miss this style so much.
Speaking of which I should probably finish my many WIPs, I might scrap this one because while it started as a remake, I want to rewrite every last lyric and change my old vocal melody in places. I just loved the instrumental I made too much to scrap it entirely
I have some ideas for what to do with it, but nothing quite concrete yet.

>>33070
>I might scrap this one
I changed my mind after re-listening. I just don't know what to do for it really. I'm one of those people who really loves OC PVs, so that's an option. I also like OCCASIONAL personal songs, but I don't know what to do for it in that regard if I go that route and I feel like I've written way too many of those already.

Thank you! As far as a vocalist goes, I'm torn between quite a number of them. Owning 29 of them and having my own UTAU on top means I've got a wide array of options. Very few of them, like Zunko or Macne Nana, wouldn't fit at all.

It's actually "hiroi hitori be natta mannaka de", which according to AI doesn't make sense/isn't gramatically correct. If you listen to the next line after that she says "natta" again and it sounds exactly like what she says in the previous line.

I'm curious to know how many of you actually make stuff, whether its covers or originals. I noticed there seems to be this common sentiment that Vocaloid fans prefer consuming than creating but to which extent is it true?.

>>34883
Not sure if it's allowed but I think this would be best gauged with some kind of an offsite poll link so that not everyone has to individually reply to your message

>>34883
I love to do some random talkloid stuff but never tried doing song covers or originals. Still, I think it's only natural for there to be way more people who are passively enjoying the scene rather than creating stuff. If we also include fanarts and memes, number of people who contributing goes up too.

>>34883
I do covers. I can make originals, but i suffer from creative block way too much to become a real producer.

>>34883
Covers since 2016 (though my earliest one still on my channel is from late 2017) and originals since 2019, but I get creative block a lot and am normally awful at making instrumentals. Over time I think I've gotten pretty decent at tuning. I hope.
In fact I uploaded a Galaco cover a couple days ago.

>>34883
I tried making covers but I quickly realized I don't have enough free time for this. Maybe if I ever manage to switch jobs...

>>34918
I feel exactly like this except with originals and PVs but also I still want to make originals and PVs so it’s cool and great

I have the problem of wanting to do everything so i wind up doing nothing since I just lack focus to make anything from jumping to different media and ideas. At least I am helping a few around 39chan with lyrics so it gives me some practice at least but I really cant organize ideas. I seem to have most trouble with song composition. Like I do not know how to arrange different orders without feelin overly formulaic.

>>34994
For me I'm starting to realize that I'm getting the hang of composition and producing slowly but surely, but creating enough lyrics for more than 1 verse is extremely hard for me, no matter how much I try I have a notes app file with 4k words of lyric ideas written in it and I'm still flailing like a fish. It's a shame because I'm someone who gets very moved by the lyrics of songs and would love to be able to write something that expresses my thoughts and feelings in a clever/powerful/provocative way.

It's really messing with me how the new Avogado6 song is insanely similar to this song idea I had a couple months ago but with UTAU Rei/Teto. even with the POV dentist MV and everything. I feel like I need to show the lyrics I made to show I'm not crazy or exaggerating. I'm extremely glad Avogado beat me to it though because their song is infinitely better execution than I could've done and the MV character is insanely hot

ClipboardI….png - 479.01 KB (1000x769)

>>35157
You should still make it regardless lel
>and the MV character is insanely hot
The mv character in question is actually just the Yamai version of his UTAU voicebank. Which is nice, honestly. I prefer it when producers use the actual voicebank's design instead of an OC. Though i guess in this case it also is an OC since they're designed and voiced by Avogado.

>>35158
Oh yeah I know, I was using 'MV character' as a shorthand for 'the character that was in the MV'. I looked into the UTAU a bit after listening and I really like all of the designs for each VB. I hope they get a little bit of traction in the community from the song.

>>35005
I forgot i was doing this but I at one point started a journal where whenever i think of cool sounding short lines or obscure rhymes or word play i write them down to remember later if they find a place in anything. I out of neuroticism put this in a password protected file so hopefully if my computer lets me in i can remember the password. Might be switching to small notepad book instead. I dont quite get song structure well though both for melody and lyrics.

['opi;oujg….jpg - 1319.86 KB (2959x706)

>>35164
I think song structure gets easier to demystify when you treat sections of a song like blocks that can be added. Something I did was journal a bunch of songs I liked by listing out every section I could hear and writing them out that way. I like to see structure in this kind of pragmatic clinical way where I choose the outline of the song (i.e. verse-verse-chorus-instrumental) then build around the outline when actually putting the song together, like making a sketch before painting. If your idea of structure is more about the full cohesion of a song though then I'd probably recommend analyzing MIDIs of songs you like so you can adjust yourself to what patterns visually look like on a full timeline.

>>35165
I sometimes dont quite identify what is the verse, chorus or bridge. Actually I am not sure what a bridge is sulloses to be since I am less familiar with it. I know chorus is also called the hook and some.styles very easy to spot but others it almost seems not there. Some sections sound like a chorus but didfer so i dont know if that counts as the chorus or verse or bridge

>>35170
Hmmm, I think looking at song lyrics on Genius can be a little helpful for that since sometimes it'll outright label if a section is a verse or a chorus. Honestly I think verse/prechorus/chorus can be kind of hard to distinguish but for your own purposes its okay to see the verse as the 'sorta catchy part of the song that has more diversity when its repeated', and the chorus is the 'most catchy section with the least variation and most repetition'. I write prechorus if something sounds like it's not quite the chorus but doesn't sound like a verse either but to be honest I was kind of just vibing it for the sake of being able to label blocks. I wouldn't worry about bridges at all at your stage, they only come up every once in a while anyway. If it's still too hard to differentiate in some songs I'd just stick to studying songs where you can more distinctly tell the difference

>>35157
You've got something going on here tbh. I like it.

My method of writing lyrics tends to be listening to other songs and my brain almost adlibbing lyrics that are completely different to its melody, which has served me well on numerous occasions. Unfortunately, for the past 6 months I've made some progress but ultimately been unable to formulate a concrete idea. It frustrates me deeply because in the past I used to be able to do it in less than 24 hours and still made something that sounded coherent. So, I've been sitting on a nearly-complete except the vocal track song for 6 months straight trying to pick my brain. I have at least 3 or 4 different documents with lyrics on it that I MIGHT make for that song, but scrapped a lot of my original ideas because they came off as either way too whiny in my head or were clunky sounding. I'd ideally like to make it for one of my characters I have an extremely clear idea of, and have numerous old projects about him I can reference, but repurposing old lyrics of a song I took down with an instrumental of another song I took down feels really lazy and uninspired to me, even if the work is solely my own and I did put a lot of effort into both at different points. Perhaps I can rewrite certain parts of it and sort of mishmash something as a proof of concept, then refine it later.
Ultimately, there's a lot of excellent advice in the thread right now and I'm super happy that people are giving it.

>>35171
I guess I could try that.

hvgcfxesfl….mp3 - 3305.88 KB

I figured the Tori song thread probably wasn't going to end up using that base I made so I ended up just repurposing it for a Miku song. It's probably for the best since I don't think I'm at any kind of skill level to make an instrumental that truly hits all of the beats of a traditional j-pop song. I'll tweak the lyrics a little more but otherwise it's like 95% there

>>35368
is this v6

>>35368
Just an opinion but something feels off. I feel the cords need tuned a little brighter to harmonize with Miku's tuning better or otherwise something needs to make them more dickswordant, less neatly formed. I could be wrong and just not getting exactly what you are going for.

>>35376
I really appreciate the feedback. I wasn't able to wring much criticism out of my friends for this one so I was partially flailing around directionlessly for it. I'm not really sure how to tune the chords brighter though or what that means (excuse my lack of musical literacy). Do you mean tweaking the chord notes themselves to be up or down an octave or just slightly adjusted or something about the instrument settings? If it helps to know what I was going for, I wanted to inspire from sasakure.UK, Jamie P When Spring Comes, A Fire That Bridges The World Devi Mccallion. Something partially stripped back sounding, desperate but lonely?
>>35369
Yeah, V6 soft.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=jNY_ZCUBmcA

>>35384
This is going to be awkward because I never learned music theory much and just touching on it little by little. This video should explain it. I was thinking you could give a try with different modes and scales. My assumption is you used minor scale? Try and see if it sounds better in dorian or not which is one level of brightness over minor. Or maybe it will make no difference im no expert lol

>>35389
Ahhh I see. I honestly just started in C major then pitched everything down a note, but I agree that the track doesn't sound very bright despite that being the scale I used, so maybe there's something wrong in general going on there. I'll have a play around with scales and see if it helps the song come together better, thanks.

That was in C major is surprising I was thinking it was either C minor or D major but I have crappy earbuds in. I think i just lack enough musical knowledge to explain why it feels slightly off but not in the good way kind of off. Not bad just feels unpolished in tone choice i guess i can say. Is Miku set to the same scale and mode?

Actually, I've been looking at the notes and it seems like it was actually in C# Dorian because of the note shift down. Kinda funny since anon suggested that even though it was already in that scale after all. I checked the MIDI and Miku is definitely in the same scale/mode. Honestly every time I try to switch it up it seems to sound kinda worse (Lydian sounded okay though but I'm kinda on the fence about it) so I'll probably try changing the key if that does any good

This is just getting more confusing lol

Just a reminder but music theory is completely optional

It is but can help if your speakers suck where hearing things is difficult.

Does anyone have good mixing setups for Miku V6? I'm pretty content with mine already, but I want to polish it up along with the EQ settings I use for her.

OTT and Nectar on the vocals

Get some good Audio Technica headphones mate

Does this get her consonants nice and crispy? I’ve had a hard time mixing her V6 compared to concat banks since they’re a bit less distinct. I turn up the compression knob and it squeezes her vowels undesirably

I keep looking up synthesizers and groove boxes etc and finding myself not sure what Id even need when I have such varied tastes. I know I could just get a midi controller but I kind of like idea of just going out into the woods to try to groove out something. Also thought it might be cool to attempt to see what analogue distortion sounds like for vocaloids.

I know someone who spent a lot on audio gear I can ask for a recomendation if I ever have money. For now I might just get some low cost Chinese IEM but I cant try to make anything right now anyway because all my computers are too old or broken.

Had no idea they had an official collab with Miku but I'm not surprised either. I have the ATH-M20x, they're cheap and not perfect but they're okay for what I do.

Actually the second collab they did. Can’t send a pic of mine since it’s still packed but they had a mic too

Currently working on a TORIKO(possibly?) original in English as a collab with another producer. Will post here when its finished.

Can we hear it

Sorry can't post anything yet

Someone earlier mentioned it is good to have a midi controller. I was thinking about how that could be more accessible to more here who lack the money then started thinking maybe a game controller can be used for midi control and I found someone who did just that. For example you can map pitch bend to the stick
https://www.kaskobi.com/gamepadmidi

Not enough buttons? Your computer keuboard can also be used as a midi controller
https://sourceforge.net/projects/vmpk/
Combined you basically would have quite a few functions of midi control without having to pay for anything.

I have a MIDI keyboard but most of the time I'm too lazy to plug it in and end up doing MIDI by hand.

I like it
