im hyperfixated on sonika so i made a website for her. might also make one for oliver.
https://sonikarevolution.neocities.org/

There used to be a website dedicated to Big AL which had downloads to MMD Big AL models and songs which feature him but i can no longer find it anymore. It wasn't an old site it was recent.

>>614
>Was it related to The Big Alliance?
Could be, not sure. It was on neocities. All I know is it had scythe in the url.

>I'm also working on my own site
Anon i dont know if im stupid or your post links to a SatapanP album announcement on /rvr/.

>>616
I'm really bad with IBs, sorry! I meant to link to /g/'s Indie Web thread and that's why I deleted my original post hoping no one would see it, orz.

Re-write: I usually use @PositiveVSynth (English) and @SpeechSynthNews (Japanese, but they cover way more synths and get to news quicker) on Twitter for vocal synth news, and Vocaverse.network as a modern alternative to VocaloidOtaku (RIP), there's also https://vocalsynthretailers.wordpress.com and https://vocaliveparty.carrd.co/.
I'm also working on an indie & uncensored equivalent to the Vocaloid Wiki right now.
>>607
Doing God's work.

>>607
Thank you for making this site, I had fun reading through each page! I love these small fansites so much.

>>617
I'll be interested to see where this independent wiki goes. I look forward to seeing it!

My personal site isn't vocaloid based but I have been considering adding some stuff to it. If it happens I might end up linking it here at some point.

>>619
Hello, yes I am. Thank you so much for your interest! I *finally* got the front page done. I feel bad because I wanted to have around 5-10 finished articles before making it public but it turns out that might take longer than I expected, as I was never a wiki editor or moderator prior. When it is ready I'll probably make a thread in /leek/ dedicated to it. If anyone's interested I could also either open it early or make you a Member so you can read and edit pages while it's private.

Should I include 39chan on the front page? I'm considering it, but when the wiki has a decent amount of content I might make a Twitter account for the wiki for promotion too (since wikis aren't social media and lack social functions they're less likely to be toxic I feel, outside of Talk pages there's not much user interaction, and the more editors the better especially considering the vast amount of content to cover in the VSynth scene. I originally wanted to make a Discord too but I probably won't to prevent toxicity, minors will probably just lie about their age.)

I also want to promote other producers and indie fanpages too, if anyone wants their sites here let me know! (Also, owner of the Sonika Revolution site, let me know if you *don't* want it on the front page)

>>641
>Should I include 39chan on the front page?
I think having a page for it wouldn't be a bad idea if you plan on making pages for vocaloid related websites like the now defunct mikufan or utaforum but having it on the frontpage ehh… probably not

I found this the other day but there's an Evillious Chronicles with a lot of guides

Can't believe it hasn't been brought up but https://learnmmd.com/

>>642
Alright! Making pages for sites is a good idea, tysm.
>>647
I love this site so much if it ever goes down like The MME Archive did I will kill myself cry

>>648

god, that website was so useful. so short-lived too.
does anybody remember mikudance.info? most of it's pages are on the wayback machine and i still find myself looking through it every now and then if i need a specific model

e0bb4358e1….jpg - 982.00 KB (1000x1000)

>>654
I wish sites like those still existed. I know there's a couple in the /mmd/ sticky with the resources but none are as huge or let you upload your own models

>>656
I think MMDArchive is the closest thing to this actually but the booru format doesn't work too well for a site like that in my opinion and it doesn't help that MMDArchive is heavily unmoderated and people downvote random shit they don't like.

Was recently made aware of this site. It's a little outdated but at least the last post is from this year and not 2020.
https://vocasphere.net/

>>654
>god, that website was so useful. so short-lived too.
Yeah, luckily a bit is archived on IA according to my mutual but it's not the same..
I think the site owners still have the site data though (

https://x.com/chestnutscoop/status/1763212498600104443 [Embed]

Show the video in this Twitter/X post

) which almost makes me want to ask if they are willing to give me the data and have me host it myself.
They say "Now retired from MMD community" in their Twitter bio too, I'm wondering if this is another case of toxicity chasing out good creators like Chorva and Shg/Hiomaika lol

There's also this: https://mmd-database.jimdofree.com possibly made by the same people too (https://www.reddit.com/r/mikumikudance/comments/1c0jxsj/would_you_like_a_new_mmd_and_mme_archive_website/) but there's way less content and no effect information ATM.

I also had the idea that in the far future when my main wiki dedicated to documenting Vocaloid music/culture/software has a decent amount of content, I should open two "sister wikis" , the "Indie MMD Wiki" (there's a Fandom MMD wiki for now but Fandom is notoriously bad, I'm surprised they're even allowed to document NSFW models lol) and "Vocaloid Assets Wiki" for hosting things like VSQXes and fanmade character art(?) (idk what to call it) like https://vimalion.pro and the VOICEROID fandom's tachi-e as a Western equivalent to sites like https://www.vsqx.top and NicoNicoSeiga (especially now that westerners can't access NNSeiga) but I think I should focus on my first wiki first.

>>662
One thing i'd personally like to see is a website that works as a database of UTAU voicebanks but isn't a wiki. Something visually similar to https://mmd.gg/db/model/ but for voicebanks instead of models and without that horrendous "make a discord account to download our shit" rule that site has.

>>663
>without that horrendous "make a discord account to download our shit" rule that site has.
Eww why do they do that lmao. Maybe for gatekeeping reasons, but tons of annoying toxic people use Discord too so it won't even work.

That's a really good idea though, this kind of reminds me of the MYCOEIROINK site! (MYCOEIROINK is basically like the UTAU of TTS/talk synths in my eyes): https://coeiroink.com/mycoeiroink/list

>>665
>MYCOEIROINK site
Yeah this is exactly what i had in mind. Except with information about the character as well such as name, gender, age, blah blah. You know how creative people tend to get with those things.

one thing i keep coming across while trying to find vocaloid sites for this thread are these decade old fansites made on free website makers by children.
https://vocaloidkfansite.yolasite.com/
it reminds me of a less primitive geocities/angelfire and makes me wonder where the creators are now, if they still care about vocaloid now that they are presumably in their late 20's if not early 30's, etc.

it has this authenticity that you don't see on 'modern' free website makers like neocities.

>Kaito's name being listed as "Kaito Nendoroid"
it's so good

>>670
>"Kaito Nendroid"
sovl

I wish fansites, not just vocaloid ones, would make a comeback in the form of forums, imageboards or resource sites (or whatever category the sonika one falls into). Vocaloid fans are lucky to have 39ch, Utaforum and Vocaverse i guess but social media as a place to discuss fandoms fucking sucks.

>>641
I'd be willing to contribute

>>684
I miss fanlistings…. those were really cool! sadly I was only rly into youtube for fandom stuff for a while (and chat sites) so I didn't really figure out they existed until after they all died basically lmao : (

>>708
Fanlistings are still alive and aren't very hard to find on google (unless you're looking for fanlistings of very specific characters).

I remember finding one for Made in Abyss a while back and that's a pretty recent anime (technically almost 9 years old but i still dont consider "2016" old).

Isn't that literally just Youtube? Or do you mean something that's like Youtube but more focused on otaku culture

Does anybody know what happened to VNN and Vocaloidism? VNN has been inactive since 2021 while the site remains up and the same happens with the latter although it has been inactive for longer (2017). I know that social media changed how people consume their news but i'm surprised they kept these up instead of shutting down like MikuFan. (Not that i'd want that, history is history and should be preserved, but i know these indie sites tend to shut down after a period of inactivity)
https://www.vocaloidnews.net/
https://vocaloidism.com/

Forumotion has a lot of dead, abandoned Vocaloid related fansites and it's honestly interesting to explore them because a lot of them are from the early 2010's and stopped being active around 2015/2016.

Did anyone ever use this? Just found out about its existence

>>3209
It was opened just before Mikunopolis, and I believe encouraged by SPJA (the non-profit that organizes Anime Expo). It's also the reason Jakarta was chosen as the first location for Miku Expo due to a fan poll that ran there, something like the "Find Me" campaign. There was also a bingo event at some point for prizes that I think broke more than once? Maybe one or two separate giveaways for concer tickets. As I remember it, it was a cobbled together PHP mess that barely worked, and was mostly centered on being arecommendation engine for PVs. There wasn't much to see though since it was basically a top 100 collection of the usual popular hits. I remember thinking it was deader than Google+ in its twilight days.

>>3210
>Google+
Man, that thing sucked. I remember when they tried to integrate it with YouTube and you were forced to make an account. I also remember there being some Vocaloid RP communities there but i was too busy bitching about fandoms i didn't like instead of being in those.

>>3210

Do any of you frequent any community oriented vocaloid sites aside from 39 and perhaps vocaverse? i've been wanting to make friends in the community but it's hard to find people over the age of 18 who aren't sekai posers

>>3091
Would you mind posting those Rin and Gumi chibis with their faces against the screen? they're cute

>>3281
>any community oriented vocaloid sites
I've heard some anons in here talk shit about the moderators on UTAForum, but honestly i've been there for nearly a decade and never ran into anyone i've wanted to punch like on VV or the vocaloid subreddit so i wanna say that its one of the sanest Vocaloid forums.

Years ago there was a site called VocaloidOtaku which hosted a forum and the Vocaloidism blog also had one (which i personally thought was the best) but both are dead and gone.

>39
39chan is fine for casual Vocaloid talk, new releases, news and original content and it helps that a couple western producers like Majin and Tako, and the voice provider for Namine Ritsu gave it a boost in popularity recently. Every once in a while there's some asshole bringing in literal who Xitter drama or lolisho discourse that no one but themselves give a shit about on /g/ so I'd avoid that board altogether

>>7273
/g/ is fine but yeah avoid the fandom discussion thread it's a glorified gossip thread. Every once in a while a bot will post *that* stuff on /g/ also so whenever you see an attachment from /g/ on the frontpage don't click it.

>>7294
I think I've said this before but we are doing whatever we can to prevent bots from posting on our site. About 90% of the CSEM bots that plague imageboard websites get blocked by our filters, but sadly the ones you mentioned slip through the cracks like cockroaches due to the way their posts are formatted - no body text and a heavily edited image. Fortunately they only post rarely and we catch them almost immediately.

Right now one of our staff members is working on an AI powered detection tool that will (hopefully) get rid of them completely.

>>7273
I'm honestly so glad I never used VVN despite having a 2016 account, because holy fuck I would have started so many arguments back then. I was a nightmare to deal with until maybe 2023.
I can 100% confirm that the Reddit is abysmal. If you simply say you don't like a producer when the OP asks for an opinion, it doesn't matter how nice you are, at best they'll act shocked that you don't like Jamie Page or DECO and at worst they'll act like you uttered a slur or something. Farming for Karma is also obscenely easy there, just asking wholoid-centric questions got me over 1k

>>7298
Are you the type to argue a lot

>>7299
Not for the past couple years, I learned how to actually deal with my anger. One way I do that is tuning & mixing, another is listening to songs I like
Most of those years I was causing issues, I was a teenager.

>>7298
Reddit in general is shit. Every subreddit is like this. I'm not a "le 4chinz is better guise" fag but I'd rather some person on 4chan write an entire paragraph about how I'm wrong for having an opinion and should kill myself over a Redditor downvoting me without elaborating. Awful place for discussing anything.

>>7301
Makes sense. I don't really use it ever, but the one place I check once every few months is the Vocaloid one because there's occasionally some really "out there" shit and once in a blue moon, good art.

Threw me for a loop seeing VSR here bahahaha

I’ll add on to this thread. Used to be a site great for find MMD models called mikudance.info. It lasted a few years but eventually the owner got tired through a fit and shut it down.

Learn MMD also had a very short lived page I wrote on for a bit dedicated to just MMD models as well. It was basically a good way to find model reviews. Not a lot of articles sadly.

Dead blog, can’t pull up the link atm but Lost MMD on tumblr which is pretty much an MMD lost media blog.

Only other one I can think of is the old project diva forums? I can’t remember the exact name, I didn’t visit often.

>>11326
Still being worked on for anyone who's curious. Will update when its out.

Does anybody else just type "Vocaloid Forum" on Google sometimes and just explores the many dead Vocaloid forums (mostly forumotion ones) out there that are still around?

I've considered making an old school style Vocaloid news blog but I feel like we're at a point where social media has done irreparable damage to journalism, and that unfortunately includes fan journalism.

It's so easy to just refresh your feed and see a short, vague sentence posted by a news account accompanied by an image and a link to a full article that 90% of people will not even bother reading because they prefer reading sensationalist headlines and immediately jumping to conclusions. I'm mostly throwing shade at general pop culture news accounts like The New York Post and Pop Crave over here, not any specific Vocaloid accounts, but fan journalism has also fallen to these practices lately.

Then there's the issue that I have a life so I'd need editors to help out, and that no one reads blogs these days.

tl;dr: I've wanted to make a vocaloid news blog but i'd basically just be writing for myself

One alternative though would be to host a fanzine about recent happenings in the Vocaloid scene like new songs, new utau/sv/vocaloid/voisona voicebanks, etc. I know that despite the fact that we're in the 2020s and not the 2000s, fanzines still do very well, especially on places like Neocities where it isnt hard to gain a small niche audience.

>>13344
i'd read a fanzine personally

Not to be a dick but /news/ is the best source for vsynth news

>>13344
This is quite literally why I made the VSR blog. I’m mostly writing for myself. Despite basically not writing for almost a whole year, I’m still updating my lists when I have updates and the occasional site update post. Plus I love providing the resource when I can.

As much as I haven’t been writing, having more people report on the news is so helpful! It gives everyone the opportunity to help look over each other’s work and cross-reference each other so we all can make the most accurate articles possible. So even if it’s just for yourself, do it anyways! It’s a huge plus to have more voca-reporters!

>>13355
Adding on to this because I forgot to write more about it, I did have frequent readers on my blog. The biggest traffic was mostly on high profile news like Miku v6 or major engine upgrades. As much as Social Media has made things faster to consume, there are still many active readers. So don’t feel discouraged by the social media factor!

sometimes i wonder what VO would be like if it was still around

>>14727
Probably not much different from Vocaverse or there'd be some sort of overlap with the userbase there

>>14729
39chan already kinda has that overlap since some people here browse Vocaverse and viceversa.

This place has a more "no fucks given' attitude though. Like Ui is beloved here for example and you could probably talk about leaks here without getting murdered.

>>14729
Vocaverse was started by VO refugees, the rest of the people who ran off started vocatwt

>>14730
39chan has more of an overlap with 4chan. You gotta remember that it was originally made as a refuge site for 4chan /jp/ users who were fed up with the drama and off topic bullshit there.

But 39chan didn't really take off with /jp/ users until last year because 2 years ago this site was a lot slower, disorganized and there were anons you could recognize by their typing style alone. After the /jp/ exodus most of the boards got merged with /leek/, you start seeing the "Vocaloid General" threads pop up on this board, and bit more gossip.

>>14733
>But 39chan didn't really take off with /jp/ users until last year
That's entirely because of the April incident though because some people here take the "don't talk about 39chan on other sites" a bit too seriously.

>>14734
the don't come to /leek/ thing is a joke originating from /jp/ itself lol

>>14731
>the rest of the people who ran off started vocatwt
Unfortunate

>>14734
newfag here, tf happened in April?

>>14737
4chan got hacked and was down for around one or two weeks so people tried to go to other altchans (other imageboards with the same format as 4chan) and a lot of people from the /jp/ Vocaloid threads came to 39chan because it's a Vocaloid imageboard

>>14736
The only other option was tumblr

>>14739
Tumblr killed itself with the porn ban which happened the same year VO died. No one was going to go there.

>>14740
VO bled users for around 4-5 years before it actually died. So a lot of people were on Tumblr for a bit. I think most of the people who stuck to the end moved to Vocaverse, but idk for sure.

The cool thing about VO was they often had community UTAUs and hoaxes lol. I don't think that ever happens anymore.

>>14743
>I don't think that ever happens anymore
We literally have an entire page for community UTAUs

NATA.png - 1761.29 KB (1200x1413)

>>14743
VO's hoaxes were next level thanks to this one weird trick: actually scamming people

>>14746
i think we can do better than this if we try lol, tori was already a good start

>>14730
I think 39chan currently has by far the best culture out of all available community platforms. I've been listening to vocal synths for 7 years now, but never went and actually engaged with the community. I decided last summer that I would seek out a community to be more in touch with what's going on. I cycled through a bunch of options, and none of them came even close to having a community as mature and laid back as this one.
That is to say, 39chan probably has a pretty good retention rate for users compared to other options and is likely the best option for someone trying to get engaged with the community from scratch. That is unless you're really young and need the constant stimulation from Twitter or a Teto dicksword megaserver.

>>14754
Young people shouldn't be on this site anyway, it's 18+ for a reason

>>14755
Agreed, and I don't think they would pick this place over the alternatives listed anyways

>>14754
Twitter is a terrible place for fandoms and communities altogether. It's a real shame that almost everything is concentrated on there.

>>14769
Sadly not many people are willing to invest in forums or fansites. Most people will stick to dicksword and twitter.

>>14754
Discussions are more mature here because you're banned from posting if you're underage. I know that vocaloid has always been popular with the kids, hell, i was 9 when i started listening to it. But it's impossible to have serious discussions in a community with kids in it.

I don't know if we have any old bloggers on this site but considering we have a bit of everything here, this question's for those of you who ran Vocaloid blogs in the 00's and 10's

How did you gain an audience back in the day? Word of mouth, Google, Affiliates?. I've been reading some old Blogspot blogs that are still around and regardless of how questionable some of the articles there were (some weren't even Vocaloid related but more personal) they always seemed to have a small, niche audience. That sounds impossible nowadays.

The staff behind Booru Project have disabled registration on all of the boorus, and this specific one hasn't been updated since the early 2010's, leaving the site frozen but accessible with a lot of good art from that era still there. There's also a chance some art on this site might be unavailable at the original source and only preserved there.

Only big one I can think of is mikufan.

I remember finding all sorts of weird blogs and websites relating to vocaloid while reverse image searching old art. My favorite one that i found was this weird armenian/russian site that hasnt been updated in 15 years. It was a forum for fans of that region i think, last activity from the users was in 2016. Makes me sad thinking about how many forums and places like these online are just sort of abandoned and forgotten when they used to have an active userbase

tumblr_pg3….gif - 10.14 KB (500x590)

>>21217
Sometimes i like to explore old Vocaloid fansites (there are many abandoned ones) and honestly it just makes me happy to see how much effort went into making them. So many articles and downloadable stuff.

As for forums: I'm glad there are sites like Vocaverse, 39chan, Utaforum still alive. VocaDB also has a forum though most people use it for the actual database.

>>21217
The theme is pretty cool

Just checked PJDNet and it is painfully dead. There's bot spam from February of this year and it's still up. Meanwhile there is an ad for their dicksword server... on the forum...

>>21248
On the bright side Vocaverse still seems to be active, though I don't use it very often

That's the fate of most forums unfortunately. I don't know when people will learn that making a dicksword server kills activity on your site.

>>21254
The idea of a forum with threads on modding PJD sounds cool honestly. Sad to see this is kinda dead.

>>2274
Came here to ask this exact thing. Is there a reason why Vocaloidism stopped being updated? I was never the type of person who cared about the people behind these fansites, so if shit went down I'm not aware
I do know Mikufan was shut down because some "L" guy disappeared though.

>>21258
from what i've seen PJDnet never had threads about modding the game

I'm working on something called the 39chan archive. Thought you guys would be interested since its gonna be an archive of 39chan related content (art, Q&A sessions, etc). It'll also have what i like to call a "Pseudo-wiki": it looks like MediaWiki, functions like MediaWiki, but runs my own original code and is a static website rather that something people can contribute to.

>>21747
I'm interested. You might want to call it the 39chan Encyclopedia instead if it's not an actual wiki or an archive of the board. You can keep the explanation on the front page, so that people can still find it if they search for 39chan wiki.

>>21748
I renamed it to Leekipedia because it sounds funnier, but it is an archive and the wiki is just one section of the site.

>>21749
>but it is an archive
So like https://warosu.org/ ? Is it the whole site or just certain boards or threads?

>>21750
Neither. It'll be an OC archive but also a wiki if that makes any sense. If it doesn't, then it will when i release it.

>>21747
I'm interested, ganbatte codefag

>>21345
I remember posting about this on another thread, or maybe a different board, but Vocaloidism went inactive because the main writer is more involved in the anikura scene these days and the other got into Vtubers. Mikufan was really shutdown because affiliate revenue doesn't pull down much anymore. There is no audience for niche blogs when the vast majority of your potential audience is young and has never known anything other than TikTok and X.

I should say this is also a Japanese phenomenon too, though also compounded by 2ch/5ch being irrelevant. Most of the old Vocaloid matome sites are defunct or gone now as well.

VocaVerse is losing newsposters lately. Wonder how long it has left

>>29915
What do you mean? The news board on VocaVerse is pretty active still.

>>29916
They're getting slow and outright missing some announcements. If they're not the #1 news source anymore, it's kind of hard to think of how they'll attract new users in this day and age.

>>29921
I mean that's true for this site as well. Sad truth is most people rely on SNS like Twitter for news these days. A message like "[Company] has released [Voicebank] for [Engine]" gets the point across quicker than a long article normally would.

>>29922
That's true about sns being more popular, but 39chan and Vocaverse both do that. /news/ relies on user posts and its usually those kinds of posts instead of literal articles and the Vocaverse thread is similar.

>>29915
>Wonder how long it has left
I don't wanna lose VocaVerse the way we lost VO

>>29922
I think it's less of an issue over here because 39chan isn't especially reliant on /news/. VV's news board is one of the last relevant parts of it.

>>29925
I don't use the site much these days but i always had the idea that it was at least somewhat active.

>>29928
It's at something like 5-10 posts per day. News and discussion threads are still hanging in there, but a lot of the slower boards feel like relics at this point.

>>29931

I don't use Vocaverse but forums are a dying breed so I don't want it to shut down

>>29940
Same here except i do actually use Vocaverse so i'd hate to see it shut down.

>>29925
/news/ is great. I've stopped using Twitter thanks to it because the only reason i went there in the first place was for art and news but I've replaced that with Danbooru and 39chan respectively (and R34 for, well, you know).

>>29925
VV is still pretty active for forum standards. You gotta remember that forums are slower than they used to be years ago.

Out of curiosity how many anons here were Tumblr users or had their own Tumblr ask blogs? I remember those being a big thing in the 2010's and i even ran one for a while. Never been into roleplaying, especially not online, but ask blogs were fun.

>>30808
Me, but I was never really fond of it due to how toxic it could be
I mean it was a hundred times better than the cesspool that is Twitter, which i refuse to touch to this very day, but i don't exactly see it as a great place either
Ask blogs were indeed fun though

>>30808
Yeah i used it back in the day but only for nsfw works and fanfics

>>30808
I think a lot of people here are oldfags who were around for the Tumblr era of Vocaloid
That said, i was there, it wasnt good

>>30808
I distinctly remember following GHOST there in 2016 and getting live updates on Communications before it was canceled. I also think I followed a few Vocaloid ask blogs but I remember almost none of it.

I used to really like the vocalads tumblr

>>26506
I wonder if you could still post there if you have an account

>>30808
didn't have an askblog myself but followed a few and remember them very well

>>25279
Would be interesting if /news/ was split from /leek/ into an actual board and 39chan had a widget like the one on the right which gathers info from there. Ultimately though it'd be pointless, but it would be cool.

>>31998
I don't know if that'd be a good idea

>>31998
Right now its best to have it under /leek/. I feel like much of what gets reported there isn't thread worthy, especially if its things like sales.

>>32007
Agreed, but I like the idea of a feed that reads it on the homepage. Might be easy to exploit though

>>31998
At that point we should also have a place for people to submit opinion pieces outside formatted like a newsletter
(actually a really good idea?)

>>32014
It'd be hard to do that with /news/ because /news/ isn't just a thread to report on the latest vocal synth news, it's a thread to discuss them as well.

>>30808
Never ran one of those but i did use Tumblr back in the day to follow askblogs, news blogs, artists, producers, etc. A lot of people here seem blinded by the nostalgia and forget how toxic and miserable that place was. Twitter is way worse in that regard and I stopped using it altogether a few years after it became "X".
But I've found comfort here funnily enough. The atmosphere here reminds me a bit of the chill side of Vocaloid Tumblr in the early 2010's so as a millenial vocafag I can appreciate that.

ClipboardI….png - 408.70 KB (736x634)

>>32113
Yeah, Tumblr already had a bad reputation by the early 2010's as the containment zone for the "annoying people" that now plague Twitter and possibly the rest of the internet. But ultimately, it felt more 'avoidable' than on Twitter and i rarely came across community drama at all. Or maybe that's because I mostly used it to read lemon fics and look at naked fictional men and used Deviantart for pretty much everything else, what do I know. While I absolutely despite the culture it created, i found it to be an alright place for fandom content.
I wonder what some of the creators and artists from that era like blankfacecat are up to nowadays.

>>29915
I don't use it but if 39chan was able to prove something its that the demand for Vocaloid forums exists. If you come to think about it this is the most active Vocaloid discussion site outside of social media and having those Q&A's early into the site's history plus Hioka's seal of approval definitely helped. Maybe forums like VocaVerse could do something similar.
Also I miss the Q&A's I wonder why they stopped doing them.

>>32113
>>32116
Tumblr was much better than Twitter since awful people were more easily avoidable plus it was common for people to use a third party script to block tags they do not want to see so many people self moderated. I do prefer forums though. Only reason I use imageboards is because of not needing manage an account but the anonymity without pseudonyms feels isolating.

>>32140
Definitely, but it still wasn't the sunshine and rainbows place people sometimes pretend it was.
>I do prefer forums though
I miss VO. I didn't get to use it much sadly but i at least was there a few years before it shut down. So many useful resources went down with it, and the community although toxic sometimes, still felt welcoming. I have nothing against Vocaverse but it doesn't feel the same you know.

>>32457
That'd be 15 years of history gone, i doubt they're gonna let it die like that, it'll come back up eventually

What i'm gathering from this thread is that almost everyone here came from Tumblr?

>>32524
I mean, before the 2018 ban on NSFW content, Tumblr used to be sort of a main hub for fandom content

>>32529
that being said i think most of us over the age of 20 have probably used it at some point in our lives before the tumblr-twitter exodus

Xenforo kinda sucks and I'm not sure why so many modern forums use it

>>32542
Xenforo is fairly decent. Everything else you might consider modren forum software is shit and/or doesn't receive updates.
phpBB is a liability, vBulletin is a security nightmare and also sucks to customize, Discourse is really built more for a Q&A format, Invision is proprietary. Everything being on PHP isn't strictly a liability itself but it kinda tells you that there's not much interest left in forums that everything is still on PHP.

>>32542
Xenforo is alright. You can theme it to look like a classic forum if you want to. It's Flarum that sucks ass.

>>32524
It doesn't surprise me tbh. There was another themed chan, TF2chan, which also had a lot of overlap with Tumblr.

UTAforum is still down :/

>>32823
They've been having database issues for like a week now according to Hentai on Bluesky

>>32457
I dread the possibility of UTAforum going down. Vocaloid Otaku was already a huge loss so imagine a website about the same age, with so many resources and USTs, getting shut down.

the one thing i miss about VO was how there was some type of interaction between the community and the people making the vocaloids, especially during the v3-v4 era. didn't some of oliver's creators (the original team, not the maghni guys) post on VO?.

>>32992
I'm pretty sure we have vocal synth devs lurking 39chan already. Or at least people with connections to them. I've seen insider info posted on this site before.

>>32823
From what I've been told 2 weeks is the longest UTAforum has ever been down. So if its still like this in 2 weeks, you may activate panic mode.

>>32992

>>32993
Part of the fun is that if this is true you'll never know

>>32995
Well its been a week so far

>>32992
Yeah, a few of people in the fandom had direct involvement in the creation of some of the voicebanks. These days its a bit more normal with FANding, Vipperloids making it into engines like ACE, etc but back then it was a big deal.

>>33004
Would be funny if T39 ended up helping them out

>>33022

To my knowledge, it exchanged hands once. I believe Eclipsed Sounds had Vocaloid plans back in the day before pivoting toward SynthV, probably amid the V5 fiasco. >>34117
Moving a derail over here. I didn't use VocaVerse much when it was still new, but I noticed that most of the returning members from VO signed up years ago and quit. It kind of has its own board culture at this point.

>>34146
Its because VO had a lot of young people who didnt really post "proffessionally". There was this almost juvenile energy VO had that it felt like a bunch of kids gushing about their favourite characters and reacting to news and drama, meanwhile VVN is clearly a bunch of oldhead oldgens (nothing wrong with that btw) talking about new develoments, which admittedly nowadays are growing slim

>>34148
To be honest, the reason I visit 39chan in the first place is because this is the only place that kind of has that chaotic VO energy. Only difference is i don't really see much drama being posted (i think it gets you banned here?), but it is pretty fun reacting to new songs and voicebanks with people here.

>>34150
Honestly its the best of both worlds. Its not so juvenile that it devolves into low quality posting and highschool catfights (its an 18+ site), but you also clearly have to have some passion, maturity, and knowledge about the subject to be able to post here. Plus its got that chaotic slightly edgy undertone to it that comes with the territory of imageboard culture. Its perfect, in my opinion.

>>34152
>low quality posting
As someone who never got to use VO back in the day what counts as a LQ post there? because we do get some unserious threads from time to time like >>33897 which is fine, it's a nice balance

>>34157
My memory of the place is admittedly quite hazy, but my main point was that unlike VVN, more nonserious posting and silly posts were more common on VO than VVN.

I'm surprised i never see anyone discuss the Vocaloidism forums in here

I was always a bit of a troll, especially younger me on VO. One of my pastimes would be trying to catch bans without being obvious so I could complain about being a victim of "mod bias" to Azureflux on Skype and have him unban me. Flew to close to the sun once and caughta full week ban once that Azureflux wouldn't lift when I pushed things too far once, but most of the time I was able to weasel out of my own actions by complaining to the head admin. Getting banned from VO used to be my favorite pastime.

I tried something similar, antagonizing Kentai-P back when VocaNode existed but trolling that much smaller forum and single mod wasn't nearly as fun.

>>34160
>USER WAS BANNED FOR THIS POST

>>34159
Never used them, but i know that when T39 took over 39chan they took heavy inspiration from Vocaloidism

>>34160

Did VVN even exist while VO was active? I am not sure if I remember the timeline correctly but I thought VVN didn't come around until after VO had already died.

Vocaloidism forums had this weird niche clique culture that made it even weirder than VO. I don't want to say it was hostile but they weren't fun to be around when it was clear you were on the outside looking in.

I only ever posted on Vocaloidism when I had something to promote. Hey, at least anonymous boards are less likely to cultivate hostile cliques. Score one for Mikudayo.

>>34168
VVN was made as a response to VO dying, so no they did not coexist

>>34168
vocaverse was made right after VO shut down.
if you check the internet archive during VO's last years, the users knew it was going to die and there was already a thread planning vocaverse as a replacement.
>Hey, at least anonymous boards are less likely to cultivate hostile cliques
lolno. imageboards are 50 times more toxic than the average forum.
the only reason 39chan is doing this well is because their mods have no tolerance for that type of bullshit.

>>34170
Based mods

>>34168
>at least anonymous boards are less likely to cultivate hostile cliques
4chan is infamous for a reason, you know, lol

>>34159
I signed up for Vocaloidism when I was 12 and I barely remember anything about it tbh

>>32992
Anders actively recruited out of VO. A lot of the VocaTone crew were VO regulars and were recruited straight out of the CALLIUM & MARIE VocaloidOtaku "official" (later unofficial) UTAU project.

ZeroG and PFX also had official reps on the board at some point. I think they had an official AMA-like thread at one point. So all the Engloids companies had interacted with VO while it was around.

I understand that they're different sites and different formats but I've been missing VO ever since it shut down and for me 39chan perfectly fills that void. It's a bit more balanced than VO (probably because of the 18+ rule) but it's very close in everything else. Even the frontpage redesign they've been teasing feels very VO.

>>34175
i wonder how things would've turned out if 39chan was a forum instead of an imageboard. that was the original intention from what i've read on the faq page. would we have devs posting here? would it have even succeeded?.

>>34177
>would it have even succeeded?
Probably not, VVN already fills that niche and for UTAU you already have UTAForum (now rebranded to UTAU Forum), so it would just have been another Vocaloid forum with a very small userbase.
Now as for imageboards, we haven't had a Vocaloid imageboard ever since Mikuchan shut down in 2014, that's exactly 10 years before the launch of 39chan.

>>34175
I miss you Zero-G

>>34160
This is unironically why the mods were planning their own site for years lol

Mikudayo ## Mod Mon, Aug 24, 2026, 06:00 PM No.34181

>>34162
We kinda saw Vocaloidism as a "town square" for Vocaloid content in the way that it had everything (news, boards, oekaki, etc) so yeah that's sort of what we were going for with 39chan following the creation of T39
>>34176
It is inspired by Vocaloid Otaku

Mikudayo ## Mod Mon, Aug 24, 2026, 06:02 PM No.34182

>>34180
Don't know if it's us you're referring to but afaik no one in our team is very familiar with VocaNode, and i highly doubt the previous staff was either
I myself know about its existence but i only have a very vague idea of what it was

VNN was just the most prominent of the survivors. When VO died there was a bit of a rat race where half a dozen message boards tried to become "the next VO". I don't think any of the others survived. UtaForum even added a dedicated Vocaloid section around that time where before everything was stuffed into a "Other Synthesis" subform like VO had done with UTAU/everything else.

VocaNode was an initiative by KentaiP. It was an attempt to do something like the NicoNico Weekly Vocaloid Rankings but for the west and YouTube. It had a system that scraped YouTube Vocaloid tags and aggregated new releases, view counts, comments, and put them into a weighted average and tried to assemble a Weekly/Monthly vocaloid video ranking on YouTube... it also had a small message board where people discussed each week's rankings. It was jankey, unreliable, and problematic because it relied on scraping because it kept getting rate limited when it tried to use the YouTube API for all its stats.

>>34176
ok now i'm excited for the 39chan update

>>34183
Honestly even if Vocaverse is kinda dead these days i hope it manages to stay up for at least 10 more years

>>34181
update the radio

>>32117
I like this site but sometimes i question how the hell it managed to become more active than both VNN and the subreddit
The demand for a Vocaloid imageboard can't be that high can it?

>>34192
Partnering with other sites, being owned by a team (with one of its admins being literally the owner of wapchan), having both a social media and IRL presence and filling two niches at once: being both a themed imageboard and an adult vocaloid website that isn't entirely focused on porn.
Also events.

>>34192
Unironically the events and marketing

>>34182
Nah, not you guys. The VO mods wanted to make their own site (which eventually became VocaVerse) because Azureflux was notoriously difficult to work with on moderation issues. I think that guy's post is a good illustration of that.

>>34192
If i had to guesd Puz and Fig probably know a thing or two about marketing

>>34183
My memory is fuzzy but some of the non-VNN message baords that did not survive included VocalSynth.Space plus a bunch of free forums made on those free message board hosts like ProBoards.

>>34185
MikuBook didn't even last a full 10 years and they had Crypton Future Media money and official support from Japan.

I am surprised VNN has stuck around and Vocaloidism is still readble. Even Engloids.Info, which was technically hosted by the same person that does UtaForum, was let go into the abyss of time sometime over the last decade. I guess he got tired of paying for that domain.

>>34200
Mikubook wasn't a fansite it was owned by Crypton themselves

>>34180
I didn't know that! I will put that feather in my cap. I am part of the reason VNN why exists today LMAO. Probably not the sole reason, but I will claim full credit anyway. I can confirm, crying to AzureFlex on Skype was a very effective way to get the entire rest of the mod team's opinions overwritten.

>>34204
you a mod?

>>34206
They are talking about different moderation teams. VocaVerse was actually founded by parts of the former VocaloidOtaku mod team. I think that heritage is part of what gave them the legitimacy post-VO's implosion and why they inherited the most users after VO imploded when there were several other competing message boards (including Vocaloidism)

>>34192
The demand for a good place to talk about Vocaloid is there. I think the imageboard format is unexpectedly suited for the situation. The OC-geared focus/events helped to establish a core userbase as well.

>>34192
Honestly? I think theres a high demand for a Vocaloid fandom space that isnt a cesspool like TikTok and Twitter. I feel like ever since VO died and everyone moved to Twitter things have just gotten progressively more like a minefield. Its very nice to have a space where you can speak your mind without having to worry about purity spiraling or lynchmobs over nonissues

>>34221
I can't help but feel that latter-day VO was part of the problem, really. Like how all the forum arguments got so bad, they eventually just created a thread for posters who didn't like each other to yell at each other.

>>34223
good thing everyone is dayo here

>>34223
I don't think the forum is responsible for the current state of the fandom at all. Things were for the most part pretty chill during the "Vocaloid is dead" era. This is more of an enshittification of fandom as a whole that's been caused by social media putting everyone in one place. But I digress.

>>34226
I dunno I remember the everyone on Tumblr and porn being allowed on Tumblr era pretty fondly, but I wonder how much of that was rose tinted glasses now that its gone.

>>34228
That stuff was easier to avoid on Tumblr, but it was there

>>34226
TikTok too. It was already bad with everyone being smushed into Twitter but once TikTok kids got into Vocaloid it just accellerated the already present sensitivity problems. Nothing against newgens, but idk something about short form content apps just breed the most toxic, unreasonable hivemind types

Otone Peke's official website is still up after all these years. Although it hasn't been updated since 2008.
http://otonepeke.blog37.fc2.com/

>>34231
Likely related to repetition. It will play same video in a loop then similar videos in a loop. Repetition makes people more likely to think something is true even if it isn't.

>>32992
Oh yeah, I tried to comb through as much of the AVANNA threads as I could using the Internet Archive a couple years back. I think some of the pages are lost sadly.

>>34231
May have also contributed to so many new Vocaloid songs being fast-paced, overstimulating, repetitive, and with fully-animated MVs, usually of the singer(s) dancing or something. Not that none of those songs are good, I just miss when the front page of the scene had more genre variety.

>>34177
I definitely wouldn't have posted here. I don't like when people keep tabs on everything I say online so the anonymity aspect of being able to hang out in a chill fandom space is truly invaluable. I always felt like the 4chan website format was made for me but it was the userbase that wasn't.

>>34259
It's worth noting that cliques very much form across nearly all decently successful anonymous message boards. Hell, how many of them have owners and/or co-founders with at least a dozen loose screws in their head, to the point where they negatively influence the culture of their own sites? 39chan is an exception in this regard, which is very fortunate.

>>34177
tbh we probably already have devs lurking considering this site stopped being "le secret club" ages ago.
you'll only know this when someone makes a thread leaking a voicebank though.

>>34260
From what i know its run by an entire team with developers and mods (notably figamin who also owns Wapchan). It kind of explains why after the old owners quit, 39chan started getting a lot of custom features and updates and they started taking moderation extremely seriously (especially with the spam which if im not mistaken was still a problem up until after the Canon interview).
>>34259
There's a bit of an overlap anyway. A lot of people here are /jp/ crossies or moved from /jp/, which you gotta remember was genuinely unusable during the whole Zaako thing.

>>34411
I know that they're probably focusing on 2.0 right now but i really wish they would update the radio. At least back when moth was owner the radio still got a few updates but the new team hasn't updated it ever since they took over. Figamin, Puzzle, come on.

>>34221
VO had a lot of shitflinging too as someone who was there back in the day

I'm surprised that a lot of this site's userbase consists of former VO members considering Vocaverse is a thing

>>34412
I've said it before, we will update the radio after 2.0. And not just the tracklist but also the UI itself.

>>34416
I'm not surprised at all tbh

>>34416
there are probably users that, after having used a forum like VO, decide that they don't want a name attached to their posts ever again

>>34416
Can't speak for anyone else here, but the casual discussion was what kept me on VO when nothing else was happening. VV doesn't really scratch that itch... it's like a small town where everyone already knows each other.

>>34471
Nah i come here for the same reason. VV is fine as a site but it feels more serious in a way so i mostly just lurk. 39chan feels like a middle point between being serious and also not taking itself seriously with the occasional "which loid wud u fug" type post or some forced meme like adamsan.

>>34530
Speaking of Adamsan, I saw Puzzle teasing an easter egg on 39chan 2.0 that changes the logo into Adam's head.

>>34531
I'm glad he's prioritizing important things like Adam Sandler's head instead of the radio and the new software

Has anyone considered making a list of the active Vocaloid fansites? Blogs, forums, etc?

>>34627
I could

>>34615
I do managing, moderation and frontend (not backend), therefore i'm not the one working on the software for 2.0 and not even i know when it will be finished. That's why i've been working on stupid stuff in the meantime. The homepage is basically 100% finished so while the software is still in development i'm adding in the silly stuff like Adamsan.

>>34627
For forums you have vocaverse, utauforum, 39chan and whatever proboards/forumotion site remains from the 2010's (about 90% of them are dead activity wise btw)

Blogs are basically a thing of the past at this point. There's Vocal synth retailers and that's it. Vocaloidism is still up but hasn't been updated in nearly 10 years, and the same goes for VNN which was last updated in 2021. There used to be twitter accounts dedicated to posting Vsynth news but most kinda died in early 2025 so right now /news/ is unironically the best way to get your vsynth news.

Fansites are kinda dead too but every once in a while one pops up on neocities or nekoweb.

>>34693
I miss Mikufan. Feels weird to think it coexisted with 39chan at some point and there's a thread with people reacting to its closure. RIP.

Never removed it from my bookmarks despite it being dead.

>>34700
Wonder what the owner's up to these days

>>34705
If you mean jrharbort he's still around. He moderates the Vocaloid subreddit and i think him and the current owner of 39chan are friends or at least seem to know eachother.

>>34693
You're forgetting VocaSphere. They're more active on Twitter but the blog still gets updated and sometimes they do interviews.

>>34706
A live interview would be nice. The guy's an og.

>>34706
JR wasn't the owner of Mikufan, just the head writer. Cool dude either way, though. Played Smash a few times. He's mostly just settling down but still loving Miku.

I don't remember who the owner was, but part of why Mikufan eventually shut down was because he just basically up and disappeared.

>>34734
Some guy named L

Found this neat little fansite someone made for Miku's birthday. You can submit doodles, it's cool.

>>34780
Cute

>>34416
39chan is spiritually the same site but wearing a 4chan costume

>>34907
Not enough devposts and drama for it to be like VO kek

Anyone else feel like we need a proper Vocaloid wiki? the big one is hosted on Fandom, which is infamous for being a shitty company and editing articles against staff's will like they've done with GTA and McDonald's wikis. So many things on the Vocaloid wiki are also outdated like the entire page on Vocatone. Vocapedia was a thing for a while here but the admins let it rot and shut down.

>>34961
it wasn't the admins. it just never took off because barely anyone contributed to it.

>>34962
Oh right miraheze closes inactive wikis

>>34961
what if 39chan hosts one?

>>34967
Idk, it's not a very good idea. Mikuchan, the predecessor to 39chan, tried to do this back in the day and it didn't go anywhere. Not to mention having it tied to 39chan probably makes it more prone to vandalism.

>>34693
Vocasphere gets updated every once in a while but they're more active on Twitter nowadays

>>34961
After one of the recent staff members earlier this year fled after some severe allegations, all of the vocal synth wikis on fandom have been severely affected. Not enough volunteers. Lot’s of barebones articles which were already bad enough on the Vocaloid wiki, and then just lots of biased information that still hasn’t been corrected.

I’m not sure if moving platforms is even feasible for the current wiki, so if a collection of users wants to actively moderate a new wiki, it would be an amazing resource to have. Again though, it all comes down to volunteers, especially ones that don’t play dictator or do anything criminal.

>>35041
If you ever consider making one I'll contribute what i can

>>35041
highly doubt that one guy is responsible for all of it

>>35049
I never said he was the only one, he was just the most active until we realized he was a registered SO. Heck that incident almost killed the wiki. Some of the remaining staff almost abandoned ship. It killed a lot of drive to make proper articles.

>>35042
I’m not sure I’m cut out for the responsibility myself, but if a new one is made off of fandom I’d be happy to contribute some things in the long run that I can pull sources up for.

>>35041
We really need an indie wiki for Vocal Synths in general. At least Hentai is planning to reboot UTAU Wiki as 3.0 but for everything else yeah, shit's stuck on Fandom.

>>35075
Hell yeah, I remember seeing him mention that on bsky. Would be awesome to have another refresh.

The Vocaloid wiki feels a bit lacking in the website documentation area. There's no Mikubook article outside of a small Sandbox that was never finished (ironically Vocapedia has one but that site is kill), somehow VocaNode has an article but Vocaloid Otaku which was arguably the most influential western Vocaloid website doesn't?... 39chan, Utaforum/Utau.forum and Vocaverse are also nowhere to be seen.

>>35214
Ironically this Fanlore website has better documentation on Vocaloid fansites than the actual Vocaloid wiki itself.

https://fanlore.org/wiki/Vocalobooru
https://fanlore.org/wiki/VocaDB
https://fanlore.org/wiki/Vocaloid_Otaku

>>35215
imo vocaloid otaku's should be expanded a lot more, or someone should at least add one to the main vocaloid wiki. it was very relevant back in the day.

>>35216
Stories can be told about VO. Don't forget Ange Wayne also came from there.

>>34961
That'd be years of content

>>35214
Hello Vocapedia should no longer be kil :) I reopened it, however we need more editors or it’ll shut down again orz. Kinda wanna make an Adachi Rei article but unsure where to start

Not underageb& myself but what's the point of this rule? On a site like 39chan it's understandable but on a wiki all it'll do is reduce the amount of contributors, which is already low.

>>35878
Mind you if this was a wiki based on a 18+ series like Degrees of Lewdity it'd make sense to mark the entire thing as 18+ but this is Vocaloid. Things like Acme Iku can just have a NSFW template and (if necessary) age verificaion in the same way 39chan has it where you just click the "Yes i'm 18+" button.

>>35055
Well now's the time i guess

As nice as the idea of a new wiki that covers every vocal synth is, it's going to be extremely hard to cover everything

>>35838
Yay I get to contribute !!!! I hope it stays up this time

>>35891
Can always start small. The Vocaloid wiki wasn't made in 2 days you know.

>>35895
This desu. It's gonna be a long road and it'll take a couple dedicate people to get somewhere.

>>34176
This looks a lot like late 2010's VO. VocaDB integration is also nice.

>>34221
I mean Vocaverse is fine
