Hello Mikudayos!
I will be the one organizing this event.
I'm planning to be around all three days, likely staying at a hostel. Not sure what days you all will be there but we can try to do some sort of meetup all three days, probably with the biggest one on Saturday.
Not sure of any specific plans but off the top of my head
>We could get breakfast/lunch/dinner
>Arcade (they had Project DIVA last year)
>Panels (schedule at https://conventions.leapevent.tech/schedules/frontend/Otakon_2026 )
>Vocaloid cosplay meetup
I don't have anything concrete right now

>>2287
There'll be a 39chan panel?

>>2291
I highly doubt it but i hope i'm wrong.

39chan is pretty detached from chan culture. Some of its own culture is directly borrowed from /jp/, but it's a bit more tolerant of faggotry that'd get you killed on other chan sites like tripfagging. But due to association alone it's highly unlikely to ever get a panel at a con.

I could be entirely wrong though. If it has the blessings of people like Canon, Hioka, Atena, Majin and Sawtowne then it might have a chance.

>>2291
There won't be a 39chan panel.
>>2301
>Sawtowne
To my knowledge, he's not aware of this place.

>>2302

MiniDV status?

>>2328
I ask the same

osage sit.gif - 1761.83 KB (498x256)

I have a few questions regarding this event.
How many people will be going aside from the person with the Teto mask?, and how are we going to find eachother? Until the event itself happens i can't think of any identifiable landmarks that could help us congregate. And even if there was anything i don't imagine other dayos would be willing to sit or stand there for hours waiting for people to come.

>>2287

The radio will be updated after we move to koshi. For real this time though.

The current way the radio is structured makes it hard for me to work with it so i'm thinking of doing a full reset. We'd be starting from scratch.

This. Has anyone told fig to update the radio yet?.

>>2434

>>2435
Vocaloradio hasn't been updated ever since 39chan went from being independent to being owned by a team and switching owners in late 2025/early 2026 so the radio is stuck with the same lists of songs it had in 2024/early 2025

But also see >>2371

>>2435
The 39chan radio hasn't been updated since the old owner moth left and even back then the radio was low priority but it still got updates
Ever since the new team took over the radio hasn't been updated so it has become a bit of a meme to tell them to update it

update the minidv

So tomorrow, 9:30am, same room?

someone should bring a sign that says "update the radio". like an a4 size paper with that written on it.

I know not a lot of people were at the meetup (3 i think?) But still, i would've loved to have been there to sit down and talk about Vocaloid like a complete autist with you faggots. Just as much as it probably sucks to live in the US sometimes, it also sucks to not live in the US.

Every con I have sent this panel to has rejected it, probably because it's explicitly framed as a panel about imageboards being an alternative to social media and I assume they think it's just like 4chan. If you're speaking specifically to Otakon, it's both the con that once upon a time hosted all the 4chan panels and at least last decade ran a few panels about 4chan-adjacent imageboard topics. Plenty of marginal fan panels still make it in to cons at every size too, so hearing you say it's getting rejected everywhere seems like you need to lay off the salesiness and/or tie it into a broader culture of imageboards back to Japan.

Yeah, this is the first time there has been an official meetup at the con, although the people I was with have met up together before. The first set of pictures (and first picrel) was from our little meet at the doll museum they had set up. The second was from the official meet, which you can see had a fair amount of people. Generally, I think people (me included) were surprised with how popular it was. I had only known my group for a year (we met ota 25) but it was cool going from our little unofficial <10 person meet to having a whole room and displays there instead. Not that it is popular because of us, but it is nice to see how many people actually enjoy the hobby

Is 3ds guy some dayo or something

I would like to give fig props for watching me fumble some obscure rhythm cabinet and then immediately 100%ing a song. It was a jotaro baseball moment.

>>2567
That'd be really funny if he was, since he was a guy I got to chat with a bit when we were both playing SDVX (he was better than I was)
>>2563
The fisheye was great, especially because he'd have to get around an inch away from their faces for the pictures. It has made me want to find some meme lenses of my own
>>2562
It really was a lot of fun to see them all. I need to find some more little accessories for my Miku. I know that Volks makes scale happi jackets for the Magical Mirai, so I might try to get some of those .

Next dayo meetup when

Here is the original pitch I submitted around. Could use some workshopping:

Tales From an Imageboard Admin - A Case for Anonyimity.

An overview of the imageboard format and it's origins in Japan, my inspiration for starting wapchan, events from my time running multiple otaku related imageboards (wapchan.org and 39chan.moe) over the past four years such as building a site culture and dealing with new users following the 4chan downtime, and how they offer a compelling and independent alternative to social media and are not necessarily toxic. Additionally, a showcase of community events and the appeal of anonymity in the face of AI and forced verification on social media platforms.

Showcasing how the imageboard format is a compelling alternative to social media for independent otaku communities.

Imageboards are a lot more than a couple sites we've all heard of. As the owner of the retro anime & Rumiko Takahashi themed board wapchan and admin on the vocal synth board 39chan (where Akita Neru creator Smith Hioka has run Q&A events), host figamin will show you both the highs and lows of running an independent, anonymous community free from the algorithms of social media, and why you might want to consider starting your own.

The sites I work on have much stricter rulesets than 4chan regarding appropriate language and civil discussions and despite using the same basic layout, they do not have the heated/toxic culture that site is known for.

Now that i'm reading it yeah >>2499 has a point

I love the look of MiniDv. Everything feels more personal in ways i cannot explain.

>>2534
Like that other guy said i wish there had been more footage of the anons but i assume they didnt want to show up in the video which is understandable
>miku feet juice
I hope that was just a reference and not the real deal. They've been banning cosplayers from cons over that recently.

It's more like I assumed they didn't want to show up and so consciously didn't film them

>>2534
What Diva are you playing im this video? I don't recognize the UI
Also we can see your face during black screens

I don't mind having a camera pointed at me if its a camcorder. It's phones that i hate.

I'm curious if the other people who were giving out stickers showed up. I know one of them didn't get them in time, but what about the others?

>>2649
The other person giving out stickers was the artist that does all the official 39chan artwork (the homepage banner, read the rules button, etc).

I've been using 39chan and wapchan for a while now, I seriously didn't know they were made by the same guy until now. Uh, you're doing a great job.

>>2749
It's not made by the same guy, he's just an admin here. Site had two owners but they quit and the current one is Puzzle who created a managament team for the site and that includes Figamin.

>>2750
Might as well be the owner with how much he does for 39chan

where'd you all put your stickers

On my PC. Now Tori witnesses my posts.

I want to go to the BJD meetup

Hopefully the doll stuff will all be there again in 2027. Talking with her a bit, it seems as if they're somewhat expecting it, but cons are known to have fucky stuff behind who is or isn't allowed to set up rooms. The little group I'm in will surely meet up at Ota regardless, so there's always that to look forward to.

Any way to purchase the stickers if I'm not in the US?

>>2577
Would you mind if I gave some constructive criticism? Speaking as a PhD student who has made some successful proposals to give talks at academic conferences. I think this is a cool idea and I'd like to see it succeed.
- Give it a quirkier/more encouraging title. Something like "Error 404? The what, how, & why of running an 00s-style image board on the modern internet".
- Probably don't mention your sites by name in the proposal, it does indeed come across as a bit salesy (at least, it can be interpreted that way). Absolutely talk about them during the presentation, but just have the proposal say something like "as the admin of two otaku-themed image boards with a combined daily traffic of X/max daily visitors of Y/whatever statistic is most impressive"
- Of course we all value anonymity, and you can include it as a theme, but I think it isn't really something a lot of people care about beyond people who already use image boards. I think focusing on the lack of an algorithm/bots/AI kuso/infinite scroll would have a much broader appeal - you already do some of this, but make it the main focus. Your goal in the presentation can then be to sell the benefits of anonymity on top of these. "Why you should start your own" is a good direction also, everyone's big into 00s net nostalgia and personal creativity right now.

- Excise all mentions of 4chan. If you want to give a point of comparison make it Futaba Channel. You're sort of working with the assumption that the audience is gonna think "image board = 4chan = toxic" and running defense for that, but if they don't already have that idea, don't plant it in their head. Focus on the positives, not how it doesn't have the negatives.
- Make sure you meet all the formatting requirements/word count/no typos etc.

Once the proposal is accepted you will have a lot more freedom to talk about what you want to - orgs don't like pulling presentations because it leads to downtime or scheduling headaches. Though probably avoid talking about 4chan more than necessary. And, when talking about the lows, don't get into anything too heavy.

Anyway, good luck! If I'm ever at a con where you're presenting I'll be sure to attend.

>>2931
>orgs don't like pulling presentations
Yes, but they can absolutely blacklist you, and staff travel and talk and take in post-con surveys for feedback. So don't deviate too dramatically from whatever you pitch.

>>2931
I think he'll be at ANYC

>>2933
Right, that's a good point and I may have overstated things. Didn't mean to imply there should be any deception going on. Moreso that as long as you stick to the big ideas in your proposal you have some wiggle room in how you execute and fill in the gaps.
>they can absolutely blacklist you
But considering this, I'll say again to be careful what is said about 4chan especially if it isn't mentioned in the initial submission. Justified or not, it's a sensitive topic and it needs to be considered that many people have only heard about it through its controversies.
Still, it's your decision.

When will there be another one?

>>2999
Another what, a meetup?

There's a few anons going to NYC for Teto Live. Heard even producers will be attending and figamin vagueposted on Twitter about the possiblity of going. So maybe in September?.

>>3000
Might be a better idea to organize it in the Teto thread
