I saw this pic of a Dollfie Dream Miku on bluesky and figured we could make a thread of like miku (and general vocaloid) figures and dollfies etc?
>>
I've always wanted to get into dollfie but they're really expensive or hard to get as far as I know
>>
>>230
Yeah they're insanely expensive : ( like over 1k iirc… I've seen a number on sale for mandarake, but always crazy prices
>>
I used to know a guy who made his own BJDs. I wonder how much it'd cost to make one from scratch.

I saw several Dolfies in person not too long ago, and they were beautiful. Unfortunately, I didn’t see any Mikus. I’d love to get one eventually, but as others have mentioned, they can be extremely expensive. Sakura 2.0 is releasing next year, and based on the release frequency, I’d expect an NT rerelease at the earliest in 2026, potentially in 2027.

I only have four Miku prize figures, one of which is quite damaged, so here’s a picture of three of them! (plus some other figures in the background).

If i were to get a Miku Dollfie, how hard would it be to recreate Narupajin's doll without completely ruining her? The eyes look replaceable (although finding smaller eyes would be a challenge), and the mouth looks like he drew over it with some sort of marker, but this would ruin the doll wouldn't it?

You're actually pretty great at this whole photographing deal. What kind of camera do you use? Is it one that's particularly any better at shooting doll sized photos compared to any other kind of camera?
>>
>>31891
I was going to ask the same. I'll be surprised if its a cheap digicam.
>>
>>31886
I bought her when she went up for preorder in late 2024/early 2025? In total, it was around $750 which is still pretty expensive, but I try not to think about it. It is still cheaper than buying second hand, though.
>>31888
I'm glad you like them <3
>>31891
Thanks! I use a Nikon zF with a Sigma 56mm 1:1.4 crop and a Nikkor 40mm 1:2 full frame lens. It is a pretty nice camera, but far from the best kit that some of the doll guys I know use. Truthfully, I bought the doll with the justificationn of "yeah, I can use her to get better at photography" so I'm still in the process of figuring everything out

Thanks! Going around and taking pictures has become a lot of fun for me. It is kinda funny looking back at how nervous I was to shoot in public when I first started (about a year ago) and how much more comfortable I am now. I mean, there is still something a bit strange about brushing her hair and posing her when strangers are around, but I find it much more funny now than I do nerve-wracking. Like, the one above with the cherry tree was taking during a very busy day in DC. The little area I was at was a bit quiet, but there were multiple brides out taking pictures in their wedding dresses, and here I was playing with dolls. Life is funny like that sometimes

Yep. It was a v2, so the more recent release of her, but I can't remember the differences between v1 and v2 offhand.
>>31916
Dolls are something you buy with your heart. They are definitely expensive, but I'm not unhappy with my purchase at all. Buying it new is the cheapest you'll see them, since they generally for for $1000+ second hand. The more sought after DD characters (Beatrice, Utena, Anthy, etc) can easily sell for the multiple of thousands. It's a rough market
>>
>>31885
Nice pics though personally id try to angle the doll in such a way to hide the stand behind a leg.

>>31899
>$750
Ooft
>>
>>31937
Stands in photos are a divided topic, I'll have you know. Someone people edit out their stand, while others use goosenecks stands that they weigh on one end and hide behind the legs so that they have nothing to edit out. Personally, I kinda like seeing them. It isn't for everybody, but I'm not taking pictures with the purpose of "make her not look like a doll" so I don't need the stand out of frame to help sell that, if you know what I mean. Unfortunately, with a saddle stand like I have, it is pretty difficult to hide it using clever angles if I want to shoot her from the front.
I'm sure this is more than you cared to hear, but I do get what you're saying. I'm just (perhaps foolhardily) trying to do something different with my pictures and still figuring out exactly how I want to do things. I use a painted baseplate for one of my doll stands, so perhaps I'll look into making different bases that blend a bit more into the scenery. It won't help with the upright part of the stand, but it'll be something
>>
>>31938
You can do it how you like. I just was not sure if it was something you noticed or not. I guess a third option would be magicians thread which would make up in air poses not possible with some stands possible. I wonder if many do that method.
>>
Somehow I didn’t even notice she was on a stand until it was pointed out. Dollfies are pretty hefty so it makes sense that one is needed. Maybe nendo dolls are considered the entry level version?

While I do like BJDs I find the higher range joints where it has a double joint to be a bit unsettling so I started looking to see if there is such a thing as dolls that have a soft body basically built same way as uhh..love dolls but smaller and though rare it seems they are a thing such as this 85cm Mozu Doll... but $750
>>
>>31970
750 dollars to have Miku stare at you while you sleep

>>
>>32649
Have you traveled to other countries with them yet?
>>
>>32650
No, not yet. I so rarely travel that I haven't had the chance to take any of them to far from my house. I am visiting a friend overseas in a couple months, and I've been considering bringing one around to take pics, but that would most likely be the 1/6 I have, as she is significantly smaller than the almost 60cm Miku
>>
>>32652

>>
>>32649
These pics have made me appreciate BJDs about 10x more.
>>
>>32663
I've always had an appreciation for BJDs. I just have never been able to afford one.
>>
>>32663
Any dolls are very much a "you have to make the most of it" sort of purchase. If you treat them like a figure, yeah, you're going to view them as a big waste of money, so you need to do something with them. For me, my excuse for buying one ways "I'll use it to practice photography." Since then, I've got better at taking pictures, and now I'm traveling around and exploring my area. Some people choose to use them for diorama stuff, others to sew clothes, and others will heavily customize dolls to make their own. There is a surprisingly large community of people surrounding them too, so it can also be pretty social through organizing meets and group events.
It is a very rewarding hobby in that way, because you can get a lot out of it, but you'll get very little if you don't try.
>>32671
The prices are really steep, yeah, but it does make you appreciate them a lot more. Do I wish she was cheaper? Of course, but having paid so much does give me a bit of a drive to make sure I get my worth out of it, so to speak.
>>32662
I tried to get some shots in DC for the big cherry blossom festival, but that was an unbelievably scuffed morning. It was really busy, which was to be expected, but it was also very windy and very cold. My hands were numb before I even took her out of the bag, and the wind kept messing up her hair (which I couldn't brush back down with my frozen hands.) I do want to try again next year, or at least find some cherry trees that I don't have to brave winter weather to shoot at
>>
>>32695
I'll also add, you don't have to buy a DD Miku by any means. If you're handy, you could buy a blank body (of any scale) and turn that into your own Miku. Fashion a wig into twintails, get some pink eyes, and give her a faceup. You can buy vocaloid outfits from various stores, or you could make stuff yourself. Congratulations, you've now learnt some skills on your quest to save money and you have a one of a kind Miku doll.
>>
>>32696
You're reminding me of how I bought a 1/6th sized doll base 2 years ago, but didn't do anything with it because it was the wrong color for the character I wanted to make...

I have this blind box BJD and I'm wondering if I can/should repurpose her into a Neru. I'd be kind of sad to redo the base faceup though since the eyes are so pretty.

I think the same people who made this blind box also have a doll in their Transforming Electrical Street Reborn set with cyan hair that kinda has PinnochioP miku eyes, in case anyone else had repurposing budget BJDs on their mind.
>>
>>36216
Personally if I got into doll making or customizing I'd rather start from scratch with a blank base and pick the eyes and hair if I were doing something that requires repainting or changing the hair colour. There is various different materials used for hair so you have to choose wisely.

I have a kimono for her as well (I need to find a better fitting hair ornament for her still) but I haven't had her in that for a minute. I should take some pictures of her in that again sometimes soon, since picrel was one of the first I took with my current camera (and I could have done a lot better)
Still, I am pleased with how well the pink works with the outfit. I am not aware of any other GSR outfits pre-made for her, but this is definitely one that matches the pink the best. (I bought this from dollremi in case anyone is wondering)
>>36448
It looks good now but, unfortunately, pleather doll clothes are notorious for delaminating and disintegrating after not too much time at all. I am very much hoping it doesn't, but I am equally expecting that it will.
>>36452
The main part of her outfit? Not all too much. I don't have any pictures of it, but the clothing is separated into the jacket/the rest in the same way the art has it, so I can just grab from the top and pull. The floating leg piece though? Awful. There is a reason why the thigh gap in any pics I take of her is significantly larger than the gap in the key art. There is no great way for me to pull that up
>>
>>36463

>>
>>36455
>How much would it cost
I meant to say this as well but, based off of the people I've come across who do custom plushes of any kind, I would expect $300ish. This is entirely based off of the couple of people I've met who've done plush comms in the realm of 15-20cm size, so take this entirely with a grain of salt
>>
>>36464
Thanks! It was a poster that they handed out for when GITS got the IMAX release a couple years back. You can't really tell from the picture, but it is a metallic print too, so the colours look really nice on it. The artist (Orlando Arocena) has some other cool gits designs if you look him up

>>
>>37181

>>
>>37182
talking out my ass here btw, it's just a guess
>>
Someone talk me out of buying a blank doll. These Youtubers make beautiful faceups look easy but I know it’s a trap
>>
>>37195
Only real deterrent I can give you is that if you don't already tend to work on these kinds of exhaustive hobbyist craft projects then you'll probably get overwhelmed by all of the individual steps needed to put a BJD together and there's a chance it'll just collect dust
>>
>>37195
Do you have experience painting with a brush or airbrushing?
>>
>>37238
Airbrushing no (I'd use pastels for the soft parts). Painting yes to an extent
>>
>>37195
Just a heads up but dolls are expensive
>>
>>37292
Not them but why are they expensive anyway? Just because they can? Or is it small production?
>>
>>37292
I’d certainly use blank blind box faces over the Dollfie ones.
>>37297
It’s probably a combination of low production quantity and high complexity.
>>
>>37302
For finished dolls yes but even blanks are expensive is what bothers me. Even small scale production it should not be extremely costly to do a cast mold. Id get it if it was hand made ceramic parts but usually they arent.
>>
>>37304
I would certainly guess blanks are higher margin than fully finished dolls. Maybe there’s still considerable labor cost to threading the joints, or blanks are used to subsidize the rest of the business (to whatever extent that’s possible given the small market). I do wish it was a bigger market though, the craftiness of it and tangibility of the results are captivating.
