I was able to find the Miku from that image on an archived copy of mikuchan.org. I can't find Len and Kaito though.

He has a simpler version of Miku too. A little more easily achievable though still difficult.

The first fold/glue style papercraft I ever made was of Miku, like 5 years ago. I'm 90% certain it was this model, but I don't have the finished product anymore. I don't really like low-detail papercrafts. I think this one is about as simple they can be while still being appealing. The printout and instructions are more than 10 pages, so if you want to try it yourself, download it here.

I say "fold/glue style" because I've already done origami for many years before that. I made a few more models based on some ripped low-poly game models, and converted some myself using pepakura, but I still prefer origami overall because you don't have to fiddle with glue and do so much cutting. I think people who make a lot of paper models eventually get a cutting machine to speed up that part.

That being said, it's harder to make an origami model look like a detailed character, so I think it's more suitable for plants/animals and geometric stuff.

I wonder if there's any PinocchioP papercrafts

What about unit origami? Unit origami you use multiple pieces of paper and dont use glue. Normally it is to make geometric shapes but likely can be used for making figures too though i am not sure how difficult it would be to make it geometric enough it fully folds into itself and holds together like it normally should

There are certain well known modular origami units that can be used to make (relatively) arbitrary geometry, and using those you could theoretically make all sorts of complex shapes (like a miku-hedron). The Sonobe unit is a famous one you can see here. I don't remember the book, but I've seen some examples of people making rather elaborate birds and wolves and stuff with this unit. This site has several articles about advanced Sonobe stuff:
https://jblblog.wordpress.com/2011/05/27/sonobe-and-underlying-geometry/

The problem would arise from the time and effort it would take to make something with possibly hundreds of units, and the risk of structural failure due to increasing, unevenly distributed weight. I guess that applies to sculpture in general.
It could partially be mitigated by using thicker paper.

Went down a rabbit hole of papercraft templates and found an Iyowa one

Do you have the template for this one? I'd like to make it

Maybe instead of glue or double sided tape it might be easier using UV curing adhesive resin?

Friend, I linked the model in the post you're replying to. I remember the folder layout is a little weird, and the instructions are in Japanese. At the time I couldn't read 日本語 at all, so I'm sure one can still make it with some patience and geometric reasoning. Something funny about the model, the only reason it can stand upright like that is because her hair holds her up.

Pic unrelated, I just think it's interesting and really helpful if you like geometric modular origami/ kusudama.

Anyone seen paper puppets like these but of vocaloids? Would be cool if someone did that for a music video or something I was thinking when I found about this. Closest I could find was a mechanical one I will have to post after this.

There is a Rabbit Hole Miku is what I had came accross. Probably can be done in just paper in theory.

I folded the model from the video here. >>28793
I think I should've used different colored paper in retrospect, but I thought using blue/white like the original would be boring. If I make the model again or fold the other origami Miku in this thread I think I'll go with pink/white.

How big a sheet did you need? I am not sure I have very large origami paper.

The sheet I used was 21 centimeters, and the final model is almost exactly half as tall. Unless the guy in the video has really tiny hands though, I'm sure he used bigger paper than that. I had to use a chopstick to help with some of the really small folds.

If you actually want to fold this model yourself, be warned that it's at least intermediate level. Also, the tutorial seems to skip a step around 16:20 when the video cuts.
