Some anon on this site was working on one but nothing came out of it as far as I know.
Either way making a new wiki would probably be a lot of work. The Wikia/Fandom one despite becoming worse with time has been around since the early 2010's.

Would be cool if we had one like Wapchan has the Rumiki

I'm not against the idea of an indie Vocaloid wiki that isn't corrupt but having it hosted under the 39chan domain would be really, really stupid and would probably bring unwanted attention to the main site. And this isn't a muh sekrit club thing either, I'm happy that more people are using this site but do we really want the average western Twitter user here?. We've already got some migrant folk from /jp/ bringing in irrelevant political discourse in discussions where it doesn't belong. Making a mainstream wiki under this domain would probably bring in more people like that but from the other side of the spectrum.

We should absolutely have an indie Vocaloid wiki but ideally without any ties to 39chan.

>>4591
even worse, possible tiktok users (98% likely to be underage)

i'd be down to contribute to the wiki though if it ever happens. question is: where do we draw the line when it comes to unnecessary articles? we can't list every vocaloid song or utau vb ever made (that's what vocadb is for) but we shouldn't leave out lesser-known things entirely. does that make sense or am i rambling nonsense

>>4591
yeah this
i dont want a 39chan wiki but i do want a vocaloid wiki that doesnt suck
the current one is being castrated by both fandom's shitty guidelines and the staff themselves

>>4594
i dont think it has to be a vocaloid LYRICS wiki, no? vocadb already has got that covered and afaik they dont censor shit (the lyrics to funky husky cool girls are available there). i think the ideal wiki would be used to list information about the voicebanks, characters and maybe things from the fandom including fansites (which are relevant) like vocaverse, the now defunct VO or even mikubook.

>>4594
I never understood why the main wiki lists lyrics for a couple songs when the Vocaloid Lyrics wiki already exists and sucks.

>>4597
yeah, vocadb doesn't censor lyrics at all

would we list producers? iconic ones like wowaka would be obvious to include, but how do we exactly determine 'important enough to have an article'?

Ok you got me there, I hadn't considered producers. I looked at the Vocaloid Fandom wiki and producer pages are a bit of a mess. Everything is super cluttered and tables don't seem like the best way to list their discography. Doesn't help that these aren't updated too often. Maybe the best solution is to have pages for only the relevant producers?.

>>3690
I don't use Fandom-hosted wikis and have no interest in looking. What does this wiki offer that isn't already covered by vocadb?

>>4604
History

>>4604
vocadb really only offers basic information, not full histories (like concept info, how well they sold, etc) or trivia (maybe including fanon concepts of characters, sort of like how the touhou wiki does that sort of thing, distincting that its FANMADE IDEAS and not actually 'canon' shit)

>>3693
Hello! I am still here! Unfortunately life got in the way and I fell behind a bit. I did create an article today though (https://indievocalsynthwiki.miraheze.org/wiki/ROCALOID) and guess I can start publishing my various drafts if you all are ready and interested!

I wish I waited a bit to announce it because this is my first time editing or managing a wiki, so I’m a bit insecure about the quality of my articles.

However I opened it to the public a while ago so it’s already at the point where people can edit and participate in it! Hopefully I could find mods in the future too. Tysm for your interest.

>>4610
I like this but i have a few criticisms. First of all, the font is absolutely abysmal and makes me want to purchased some glasses.

The Zako page is also insanely biased and it shows. I mean, come on, "Proshippers and (some) Western lolicon"?. But if i have something positive to say is that it has a LOT of information, more than i've ever seen on a song page before, such as the history, and that is cool.

>>4597
VocaDB requires a lyrics source, which either has to be a wiki or an official document. The best part of the Fandom Wiki and VDB is that they contain rare and often unknown songs.
The worst part of the Fandom wiki is that they only take translated lyrics from people they "trust" and have a shit list of people who are never allowed to translate. I love the idea of accurate translations! The problem, is that the shit list isn't just for inaccurate people. Also VGperson is on the shitlist for some reason.

>>4612
>font is absolutely abysmal
seconding this

>>4614
What did VGPerson do

Indie lyrics wiki already exists btw
https://vocaloidlyrics.miraheze.org/

>>4614
WTF I love VGPerson why is he there

>>4616
I went and reread the banned translator list and he got taken off, thankfully. However, they were put on the neutral list
>Please note Vgperson sometimes corrupts titles and lyrics with her own interpretations. In addition, until mid-2012 she liked to have the first translations and had been doing rough and quick translating which resulted in grave misreading of omitted subjects and objects. Her old YouTube account was terminated due to copyright violations and those mistranslated videos were removed, but she re-uploaded them to her new channel leaving the grave mistakes as they were.
If you want a list of banned translators for both the Vocaloid and VLyrics Fandom, it's here:
https://vocaloid.fandom.com/wiki/User_blog:Damesukekun/Song_Translating_and_Mistranslating_(subpage)#T-V
Both Wikis use the same source.

>The font is absolutely abysmal and makes me want to purchased some glasses.
My bad haha. I chose that font because it has native Japanese support unlike Arial/whatever default font Miraheze uses, I got a compliment on it, and I dislike the default fallback Japanese font. If you make a Miraheze account you have access to custom CSS (and I intended to make a guide on how to use that to reset the font,) however if most dislike the font then I will revert it.
Here’s a poll: https://poll-maker.com/poll5498197x95a54F29-163

>Zako page is also insanely biased and it shows.
Yeah, it was a draft prior to a few minutes ago (I felt like too little published articles would make the wiki seem “not ready”), and “make it less biased” is actually in the list of improvements to make, it’s still a WIP article despite not being a draft.

Any ideas on how I can improve it? Do you think it’s too biased against or for the song/Caststation and Magnetite? I myself like the song so I tried my hardest not to shit on people against it or let my personal bias towards the song affect the article quality.

I can also make it a draft again if people believe it’s not ready.

>that is cool.
Tysm <3

>>4618
Awesome! I can link it on the front page, and maybe consider moving my Zako article there (is it ran by someone who will allow it?) once I improve it.

>>4623
>is it ran by someone who will allow it?
No idea, all i know is it exists

>>4614
>which either has to be a wiki or an official document
it doesn't, selfposts are allowed

>>4618
>Song I wrote with terrible mixing and tuning is on there
Holy shit, I wasn't expecting that.

>>4626
did you make the kaai yuki metal song

>>4627
No, it used Piko. Though I do gravitate heavily towards wholoids as a whole.

>>4627
There's more producers on this site than just Shieru and Meaty

Haha, I myself was kind of torn on what we should cover!

Here are some things I came up with (not the complete list however), feel free to give criticism/list things you think I should or shouldn’t cover.

I guess we in this thread should collectively come up with and decide what will and won’t be covered before continuing?

>>4635
I agree with this, it was embarrassingly hard to find a lyric source for Specimen Girl because the song is so graphic, and having graphic songs on either yours or the other independent Wiki would be great.

>>4622
shocked to recognise so many names on there, especially karin. was under the impression they used the official diva translations (at least for eng, i don't know about esp)

>>4635
Roze article would be highly appreciated

>>4623
>Arial doesn't have JP support
You can type a japanese word and it shows up just fine

>>4661
I personally don't mind MS fonts but the one used for the wiki does look really big and ugly here for some reason

Yeah no the font is awful sorry anon

I reverted the font who cheered
Tell me if there are any bugs or glitches due to it

It's readable now

This has very few articles and it's easy to tell which ones were made by /leek/. I suggest that you all create articles about more notable subjects like VIP@2ch UTAUloids and cancelled voicebanks, instead of 39chan voicebanks like Sena and TORIKO. The UTAU and MikuMikuOnline articles are already a good start but they lack information.

>>4612
My suggestion is to not use that word in the first place, it didn't exist then and it has no reason to exist now. It creates more division within fandom culture which already is divided and will only make people think that the site is ran by "le evil diddybluds". Referring to "lolicon" i guess is fine so long as you keep things subtle and unbiased. I hate e-celebs as much as the next guy but i remember seeing a video on Zaako where the guy managed to stay neutral on the topic for the entirety of the script and therefore wasn't annoying.

>>4610
Now that the vlwiki is dead, maybe we should start working on this as soon as possible

>>6796
What's a vlwiki

>>6799
Vocaloid Lyrics Wiki, they recently moved to Miraheze due to Fandom being dogshit
https://vocaloidlyrics.miraheze.org/

>>6602
Yes that is why I got rid of the article weeks ago so I can improve it. It is no longer accessible to anyone who isn’t digging through my sandbox (even if they hit random page) and I don’t think any vocatwt/Tiktok zoomers can navigate any wiki that isn’t a Fandom wiki at all, so we don’t have to worry about people getting mad about it. Please stop mentioning it I’m getting a little insecure (´•ω•̥`)

For any further criticism, please help us edit the wiki! Anyone can edit a wiki (Even if you’re logged out, just be aware your IP address will be public if you do) and there’s only about 5 regular editors, it was also only made a few months ago which is why there’s so little content and some of it is low quality like the former custom CSS, my Zako article, I have never edited or created wikis prior to this.

Also, I don’t think we should aim to “replace” the current Vocaloid wiki as it might cause competition and for the “mainstream”(?) fandom to view us negatively. I thought of it more as like an alternative, while minors and people who don’t want to see certain content can just continue using the Fandom one, I haven’t seen many outside of here complain about the current wiki.

Also, how do you all feel about covering topics as popular as Miku, Teto, Vocaloid, and SynthesizerV this early? At first I thought that re-writing the history of them without reusing other wikis as a source was too big of a task (especially since a lot of V2 & prior-era stuff is lost media) but a few people are asking for Miku and Teto articles, and I realized obscurer topics might be harder to cover due to the lack of information (especially in English.)

>>6803
>Also, how do you all feel about covering topics as popular as Miku, Teto, Vocaloid, and SynthesizerV this early?
Yes

>>6800
What a waste of effort. Moving laterally from one free wiki host to another is kicking the can down the road when rot inevitably encroaches on Miraheze. I don't expect people to even know the history of Wikia becoming Fandom, but there's plenty of models in other fan wikis making the jump to self-host. I can't believe the management here actually tries to cite costs as prohibitive to self-hosting.

>>6847
Are you implying that Miraheze could face the same problems Fandom currently does?

>>6849
What makes you thinks it's immune? Wikia began life as a Jimbo endorsed project and went through a long slide before it even took on the Fandom name, and it hardly had a great reputation before that. All the same trappings apply to Miraheze today, and their content policy is something to be danced around just as much as it was on Fandom. Spinning up a MediaWiki instance avoids the question entirely.

>>6851
Never said it was, but they're not as evil as the people running Fandom from what I've seen. In the case you wanted to self-host they let you export the contents of your wiki, and if you ask them to close it they probably will.

>>4612
Where is the zako page im stupid and cant find it

>>6855
See >>6801

>>6851
I originally did intend to run my own MediaWiki instance (installed Docker and everything,) however I unfortunately do not have the funds or programming knowledge at the moment. My laptop is also very low-end (lacks a GPU I believe?) Crowdfunding is totally an option in the future, and a multiple people still were interested in using Miraheze as a temporary solution (I wouldn’t have made it otherwise.)
I would also eventually like to become self-hosted in the future so we don’t have to worry about anyone else’s rules. (Isn’t it too early to self-host anyway? There’s like two articles lol)

While I also believe while their Content Policy has issues it’s much better than Fandom’s, which is quite literally trying to force everyone to be as marketable to children and investors as possible. Miraheze at least lets us document NSFW that doesn’t involve things like rape or lolishota while Fandom doesn’t.

>>6862
You would rather be self-hosting early than having to worry about a large migration. Sort of brings me to the point again that if that so much effort is being expended on a migration, it would have been more consequential than just jumping to another a free hosting provider. Miraheze today is not Miraheze tomorrow, and the uncertainty of that concern could have been avoided with your own instance. Obviously I am speaking to a minority concern, if this is where volunteers want to go, but it also informs that I probably won't contribute for reasons similar to why I avoided contributing on Fandom. Most of my energy will probably remain with VocaDB.
