I'll do anything for Oliver and Fukase to make a revival. I feel like as soon as either of them get a new voicebank release there'll be a lot of English producers who are sentimental enough about them to make a solid wave of new originals. Although it would also be nice if people also just returned to these older less fancy VBs like they do with UTAU Teto for the sake of the unique artificial sound.

There was no plans afraid. This goes for Oliver as well despite what it may seem like. Early on it was hard to figure out what rights VocaTone had with the characters, so despite having plans for a project with Oliver early on, it was not for a voicebank. With what happened with Yohio, it was just the nail in the coffin. What I can say is that a year or two ago they seemed to be reconsidering based on a few tweets on personal accounts but nothing came from it. At least with Oliver it’s just a matter of Maghni getting finished now.

Not talking down of course, I love Porter haha, but yeah, he doesn’t sing in every song and there’s still that good chunk where his voice is edited in production. He can sing, but it’s just his production I’d say speaks more about his talents. It’s really more a matter of opinion but it’s really just I’d say he’s one aspect more than the other.

I can explain both of these. Anders’ role, as explained to me years back was that Anders’ acted as an ambassador to connect the English companies with Yamaha. Unfortunately, as we now know, Anders (as well as former PFX CEO Bil Bryant). Are not the best people. He founded VocaTone and brought on several users from the VO forums, at the time all minors with no pay. Of course we know what happened to them.

Anders’ also had some involvement with Zero-G’s work as well. I’m not sure exactly when he ceased working with Zero-G, but I want to assume he hasn’t been involved with the company since before work started on Sonika V4.

There were a good few rumours that floated around for a bit about the English companies being blacklisted, however, after learning so much over the years, I don’t think it was the companies being blacklisted as much as it was him and Bil themselves.

I am pretty sure the Sonika V4 cancellation was definitely just a result of V5 coming and poor timing. When I was still looking into possibly creating my own bank, one of my contacts at the time reached out to me with an email from Yamaha that advised them to reach out to Zero-G about development.

I’ll make the rest of this a separate post because it gets into ViVi.

I’m not sure when it was founded, but sometime after Bil Bryant left PFX, him and Anders went to found a new company. This would be the company that originally created Vivi. Sadly I do not have a name so it’s not something that can exactly be searched, most of the information about Vivi is hard to search anyways.

This company supposedly brought on a new group of minors and all were supposedly going to eventually have their banks made. Tmk the company had not reached out to Yamaha and acquired the development license or paid fees, instead they used and copied existing kits they already had from their last ventures. I think in a similar fashion to VocaTone and PowerFX, the plan was to develop the banks as this new company but have Zero-G distribute which would explain why the zero-g logo is on the few photos of Vivi’s box.

This is of course where the public story begins to blend with what’s public knowledge. Eventually Yamaha finds out about the project and deny its existence. I’m not sure what documents were sent, but I know for certain that it resulted in the closure of this new company before anything else could happen.

Tmk Anders has not been in the scene now for a long time, but pretty much, without someone to act as an ambassador, it became hard for new companies to reach out to Yamaha and those who had heard of the issues before already had a bad impression of things.

That said, considering it's an AI voicebank which is named and designed after him, I can see why. The license is actually pretty standard across Yamaha’s licenses last I checked. The biggest difference is the menstrual stuff. There’s a lot of other vocaloids with similar licenses however a lot of these clauses tend to get ignored and are more so protections in regards to corporate entities.

Miku is a very good example of this. Technically half the songs we make with her aren’t supposed to exist but because it’s usually individuals and not corporations, it doesn’t get enforced, plus CFM seems to include them in concerts anyways lol so it’s not as big a deal as it seems.

The clauses at the end of the day are to protect the VP. You can probably get away with some of the topics mentioned as long as it’s not the focus of the entire song.
