Vocaloid News Thread - /news/MikudayoWed, Oct 23, 2024, 10:29 PMNo.245
Here's a containment thread to prevent people from flooding /leek/ with news. Post Vocaloid, UTAU, SynthV, CeVIO and [insert any vocal-synth of choice] news here.
Other threads worth checking out: >>4 - Recent Vocaloid Releases >>23 - Music Sharing Thread >>108 - Charts Discussion Thread ^ Don't use this thread for any of the above.
>>442 yeah she was announced a few months ago but unlike with sv miki/sv una there weren't any demos released or any further information. people have been speculating that DECO has access to v6 miku but its unconfirmed whether it's v6, good tuning or RVC.
)..I think we will be fine lol. I know Japanese vocaloids take way less development time compared to Engloids due to the nature of the language but they can't pop them out overnight.
>>447 Yeah, Miku and the Kagamines sound fine. Everyone else sounds terrible. Especially Luka and Kaito dear god. Luka is literally just another Miku voicebank and Kaito sounds like he was recorded off a laptop.
Not having Len instead seems like a missed opportunity considering he's the banana guy but oh well, Miku is still the most popular vocaloid and that ain't gonna change.
>>476 If i'm not mistaken it's Miku at #1 followed by Teto, KAFU and then Kaito. I'm not a Kaito listener (i prefer the shotaloids) so i'm not aware of any Kaito songs that came out this year.
>>480 I usually don’t like most KAITO songs, but I listened to his demo and it sounds surprisingly good? I think most people just can’t tune him well 😭
>>484 Kind of the case for maleloids in general orz. People mostly only know how to use Miku and Len (voiced by a woman), world peace would be achieved if tuning Len like vidrel was the norm
Mikoto Hime and Mikoto and flower are all receiving new Talk vocals for A.I.VOICE on March 3rd! Their Gynoid Talk vocals will be ending sales at the end of that same March, but any Gynoid Talk owners will be eligible to receive their new vocals for free https://nitter.poast.org/PositiveVSynth/status/1870088336062226601
>>793 I think it's just straight ports since it's the same engine internally? Still nice to have them in the same program as other talk vocals though. Might grab their physicals while they're still available.
Apparently this is the tracklist for the Fortnite x Miku collab event: >M@GICAL CURE! LOVE SHOT! (SAWTOWNE, Hatsune Miku) >Daisy 2.0 (Ashnikko, Hatsune Miku) >Miku (Anamanaguchi, Hatsune Miku)
I am 100% sure that even a sekaislop player could come up with a better tracklist than this jesus fucking christ. M@GICAL CURE! LOVE SHOT! is alright i guess but what the fuck are those two other picks.
>>910 They pick the last two songs EVERY time lol. You can tell they’re trying way too hard to be normie-friendly. At least we got Magical Cure Love Shot this time I guess.
>>1044 I don't personally see how she looks like a man but it's a bit disappointing how the style turned out. Other anime models in Fortnite look a lot cooler
>>1046 The wide face and shoulders just look weird on miku, its like they tried to give her "fortnite proportions", which makes sense considering it is a fortnite model, but it doesnt work for a character like miku.
>>369 I want this but doesn't she have two different voice providers? Would they go with the first one? They're presumably both adults now… So it could go either way…
>>1078 >doesn't she have two different voice providers if i'm not mistaken V4 uses the same recordings as V2: that anonymous little girl who is now probably in her early-mid 20's. the vocal used for the growl is a dude screaming like a serious sam kamikaze (you can decompile the voicebank yourself if you don't believe me).
>We’re going live on YouTube this Jan 23rd 8AM PT / Jan 24th 1AM JST. Join Dreamtonics Founder Kanru and Product Specialist Miguel for a first look at Synthesizer V Studio 2, currently in development.
[Announcement] On Saturday, February 1st, I will be releasing a 40-page yuri manga by Zuntsum, which I worked hard on, at the "Seioto no Utage" event at the Ota Ward Industrial Plaza PiO. (J-28) This is a self-comic adaptation of the song "Ii Ko" from the CD "Zuntsum Paradise" released last year.
SynthV 2's announcement made me realize that SynthV is probably going to become the norm now (it already kinda is). We're also probably going to get more versions of SV as the technology gets better like we did with Vocaloid itself.
>>1203 genuine question but why do people think this will save V6? are IA fans known for being as hardcore as Miku's or something? the voicebank does sound pretty good but so does galaco's, which no one ended up using despite all the hype surrounding it
>>1222 >why do people think this will save V6? Are there people who think this? I haven't seen any but I did make a joke tweet about it myself lol. I do think Miku V6 will however..it'll at least make the Japanese fandom stop caring about how shit it is considering how many of my favorite Japanese VocaP use(d) V5
>>1197 Not a producer but Minnemi has very /leek/ takes and it wouldn't surprise me if she browses this site. Majin is also a confirmed lurker according to some anon but i have not seen proof of this and i doubt he cares much for this site if true.
The Vocaloid subreddit is collapsing right now due to a ban on sexual/violent content enforced by the mods. I know the general consensus here and on 4chan is that Reddit is shit and you should not care about it or go there, but do note that this could bring tourists to both 39 and /jp/.
>>1401 >These two literally hate everything this site stands for Kio/Majin actually has posted here before though lol, which is surprising to me considering he seems like the exact type of people that would hate this site's culture >>1340 When's this happening?
>>1393 This isnt going to happen, the majority of the WVF either doesn't give a shit about 39chan or doesn't know about its existence and most of the redditors will flock back to /r/Vocaloid in less than a week
[AHS official live broadcast] The next official AHS live broadcast will be on February 20th from 8pm! We would like to introduce you to the details of the Synthesizer V 2 series announced today! Look forward to it! https://x.com/ahsoft/status/1889874145837756484 [Embed]
>>1467 I hope this implies a possibility of SeeU on the SVS2 engine. The odds of that happening are minimal, but if this UNI SVS2 release proves anything it's that the possibility, albeit small, exists.
Eclipsed Sounds is releasing 2 new vocals for SynthV 2 soon! Hxvoc is a rock/metal vocal which seems to have a dedicated growl function, and Galenaia is an operatic vocal, like old V2 Prima!
I pre-ordered Asterian when he was released a couple years back and have enjoyed using him since, so I'm hoping he & their other vocals get an update too.
>>484 Kaito took a very long time to grow on me despite now being my favorite for almost a decade for exactly this reason. His voice is beautiful, but many struggle with the tuning and mixing, either due to only being familiar with working with female voices, or not wanting to put in the extra time and attention to get a better result. Working with him over the years, I've come to find many quirks when using him, but almost all of them can be worked around, given enough creativity and determination. Other male vocals struggle with the same user-level issues, but he seems to get it the worst. Even his voice preview snippets in Piapro Studio are horrifically out of his range…
Noel de Figaro by Nyanyannya is one of the best examples I've found of songs which showcase Kaito's versatility.
>>1048 The proportions are okay on their own, but off-putting for Miku. She has the Jerma physique, lol. I've never played fortnite, but it always looks janky when I see screenshots.
>>1868 I have not seen a metal vocaloid since Hakaine Maiko so this is pretty awesome news. The screams are pretty insane, i had no idea SynthV was capable of powerful vocals like that. I remember back then if people wanted to make vocaloids sing metal they'd put chorus and distortion on the vocals to make it sound like screaming.
Also Kaito is great indeed, i hate how he sounds in Project Sekai though, the SP (which butchered basically everybody but Miku) and the poor tuning does not do him justice.
>>1958 This is tragic news but thank you for sharing it. I was happy to see their products continue as digital sales for so long, and it's sad to see them go. I wanted to buy Big Al once my situation would permit. Rest in peace PowerFX
>>1964 Kinda sorta but not really… From what I've heard, PowerFX was basically dead for years before this, and Vocatone already bought out the character rights. They're doing Oliver AI and have heavily implied that they're upgrading Sweet Ann, Big Al, and Ruby, too.
>>1967 I heard that none of the new AI voicebanks will be voiced by their original voice providers which has kinda killed my faith in them. Oliver already sounds pretty ehh.
Does anybody know if PFX shutting down affects VocaTone in any way? As far as i know they're just a spin off company with some of the original members of PFX and they own the rights to every PFXloid (hence why we're getting AI voicebanks of them at all) but i've heard that people have tried emailing them recently and they've received radio silence which is concerning.
>>1968 Not sure how confirmed that is tbh, I think Ruby's VA is still affiliated with Vocatone and she's expressed interest in Ruby AI. Wouldn't be surprised if Sweet Ann and Big Al got recast though
>>1970 >Ruby's VA Well yeah she is part of the vocaloid community so this doesn't surprise me >Wouldn't be surprised if Sweet Ann and Big Al got recast though Frank Sanderson was perfect for Big AL so it's hard to imagine a replacement unless it's Michael King (who i doubt wants to be involved with anything vocaloid after they butchered V1 AL). Same thing with Ann, i heard through the grapevine that they lost contact with Jody but take that with a grain of salt it's just a rumor.
>>2007 >I hope it's Ted >It's gonna be Ted >Please be Ted >Ted SV when >Neru??? >Imagine if it's Neru Why are newgens so desperate for fanloids to have official voicebanks? part of their appeal is that they're just the original voicebank tuned to sound different. Neru is low pitch Rin/high pitch Miku, Ted is low pitch Teto. Haku got an UTAU that CAFFEIN doesn't even approve of, but do you think that's what people will think of when they think of Haku? No, they're gonna be thinking about low pitched Miku.
>>2028 He's in good hands then, thank god. I hope they still plan to release AL, Ann and Ruby on thr same engine though. They were teased but never officially announced.
>>2000 Forgot to write my thoughts about this. For a demo this is insanely catchy and i like how her voicebank sounds so close to her Vocaloid counterpart (same VP im assuming?). I'm hoping Korean (or even foreign VocaPs) pick her up and give her the love she deserves.
>>2352 I was wondering if they were going to use the UTAU voicebank or the SV for this one. They ended up using the SV but tuned to sound like her original UTAU which is honestly pretty neat. https://x.com/McDonaldsJapan/status/1902291457773273431 [Embed]
>>3499 >piko is dead >YANHE was born out of shanghai henian's president spending zhiyu moke's money on blackjack and hookers >MAIKA is dead >LUMi >kanade >uge
are white haired 'loids (and those with a mostly white colour scheme) doomed? flower seems like the only exception. and maybe kizuna akari (she's not a popular vocaloid voicebank but she is very popular in her TTS incarnations)
>>3521 >>3522 what I understood from the situation is that ROSA's VP had a bar and she was using zan-shin's funds for her own bar, mostly those related to whiteCUL's. this caused the company to not properly recognize the fuck up and instead tried to ban shirayuki (ROSA's VP) from using their IPs (which is the reason about why the CUL cocktail had to be "censored")
thus, all of this mess lead whiteCUL's VP to not get paid at all and she's planning on suing the company, even if she's getting threatened by zan-shin itself
>>3538 in my opinion, it all depends on how the situation with zan-shin goes. by itself, they are a small company with a small budget, considering that their last VBs were voiced by employees (and in ROSA's case, she was chosen through a contest). whiteCUL's provider is the CBO, while REV uses the CEO (if I'm not mistaken) as a voice provider. now, CUL has eri kitamura, a renowned seiyuu, as a voice, and they probably don't have the budget to work with kitamura again, let alone now with the financial situation they have. if CUL doesn't come back for a while, it would be because of budget issues, what they did to shirayuki was to revoke the rights of the IPs related to CUL.
so, in short, it all depends on whether the company turns into something worse or not. if they manage to get out of it, CUL would be saved and maybe with enough budget they can re-record her (either with kitamura or a new VP).
I'm thinking apple tits will be next after Iroha. Shame about no Kaai Yuki though. With the voice provider in her 20's and possible moral concerns if they go with a replacement I don't see it ever happening.
>>4086 We're literally getting everyone except Lily At this point it wouldn't even surprise me if instead of making a new Lily voicebank they just decided to give Luna from Animove one.
>>5715 Teto is so supportive of her friend, very cute. Though it's also funny to read this in a "that damn Miku, always doing some bullshit" way too lol.
>>5748 they announced 20 or something characters for post launch... so maybe??? Sega was involved with Blooming and Teto is really popular in the western community
>>7055 dreamtonics confirmed it, although anicute said they're doing some adjustments to their store right now, so there's a chance eleanor is either dead or maybe alive (pictures from twitter)
>>7073 Real, just confusing. I've heard people say AniCute is really bad at communicating with customers so I'm not surprised we have no idea what's going on
Trustable JP news source is saying that the voice provider of UNI did indeed file a lawsuit and that she's looking to stop the software's sales (which likely means she will be discontinued) https://x.com/SpeechSynthnews/status/1940261422761758909 [Embed]
>>7098 I get this concern from singers, but it seems pretty silly to record and release the whole voicebank before addressing realism concerns. Did they not review any demos before signing the contract?
>>7105 From the linked thread >Lee says she was told not to worry as there would be some differences due to the nature of the program and it would not be the same as her voice. She also states that she thought it would create a new voice for the character (assumedly like her VOCALOID) but it replicated her singing style perfectly. She says it is difficult for the general public to distinguish between her and UNI easily, and claims that if it can replicate her to this level it threatens her livelihood in the industry. The company also acknowledged they sound almost identical.
o_o I got the exact same email from Dreamtonics that's been floating around about Eleanor, But also I'm hearing from people that they are able purchase her voicebank by emailing Anicute.
Nurse Robot AI is on sale now. https://www.vocaloid.com/en/news/news_24/ Can anyone here who owns her confirm if she can sing in English? I have Gumi V6 and she can.
>>8056 Yeah, Desktop Mate's only selling point is that it has Vocaloid characters. They charge you like 15 dollars for each DLC and they recently removed mod support. Stick to good ol' shimejis or get Mate Engine off Github.
>>8401 I could be very wrong but it sounds like most of the original team were either not as interested in making Maghni as originally thought, or outright scammers unfortunately.
>>8406 I mean it’s been so long I would say that they were scammers in the sense that they kept failing to keep up with their promises but not in the sense it was their intention. Regardless it’s telling that whatever happened was pretty bad considering rewards were supposed to be delivered back in December.
Admittedly I think what gets me most is it’s weird that throughout this whole ordeal, it’s weird PFX didn’t acknowledge Maghni AI’s development when they stopped selling their vocaloids. Something smells.
>>8419 Don't forget that PFX itself shut down without notice. The Vocatone team was never informed and people had been speculating based on the fact that the site just went down one day. They were never going to acknowledge them when they themselves had been completely silent for a long time.
>>8420 That’s exactly the thing. If the teams were able to get rights back for Oliver, Ruby, and possibly Ann and Al too, why did no one know about the shut down? Why was Maghni not acknowledged. Maybe I’m reading too much into it but it seems weird for them to manage to get full rights back but PFX doesn’t even allude to it let alone for VocaTobe to not know about the full transition to soundation.
>>8429 VocaTone left pfx on poor terms and multiple staff basically described their employment as child labor. Probably not something they want to advertise at all
>>8447 The VocaTone devs were all in high school when they were releasing Vocaloids, afaik. Supposedly PFX got away with billing most of their roles as "volunteer work" and hardly paid them anything. Vivi and Rose V4 were also going to be made by random teenagers.
>>8884 Because PowerFX as a company no longer exists so all of their Vocaloid are discontinued. In Yohioloid's case though, he did dumb shit on twitter and got himself blacklisted from the v-synth scene. There's no way in hell Vocatone will want to work with him again, especially considering he was allegedly troublesome even in the early 2010's when the original Yohioloid was being developed.
>>8883 Damn it, I was considering buying him on SonicWire JP but decided I'd wait for a physical to turn up. Looks like it won't happen either way, now.
>>8895 You could either buy him from someone or resort to piracy. But piracy is a bit taboo in the VOCALOID community, i remember a lot of western producers would get shamed for using POCALOID and other pirated VOCALOID adjacent software.
>>8900 I've been pirating since I lost my copy of Bruno due to Voctro only keeping the codes for 2 weeks and me accidentally deleting my repository of codes (but most digital copies keep the code forever, anyways) and I can't buy him again because he was discontinued. That said, physicals have an appeal to me. I only have 3/19 banks as physicals but I wish I could have more someday. In the meantime, I'll continue pirating him.
YOHIOLOID is the first vocaloid to actually be completely dead. His voicebank is discontinued and his voice provider is blacklisted + a pain to work with, so we will never see a new voicebank for him. Vocaloids like Piko might be discontinued but nothing's really stopping them from making a new Piko for V6.
>>8900 Also piracy in general is frowned upon in Japan (one person got arrested over a Let’s Play) so it could get you in hot water with the Japanese fandom too. Chinese fans are mostly fine with it though, a lot of the cracks came from them.
>>9011 >one person got arrested over a Let’s Play If you can get in trouble for that, how are those Zundamon and Yukkuri channels able to posts Let's plays?
>>9012 Probably their lisences, I’m unsure about AquesTalk but Voicevox is FOSS + was made with content creation in mind. It’s like the difference between Vocaloid and UTAU.
>>8885 For clarification PFX still exists, they just fully rebranded as Soundation and shut down sales on the old PFX site which included discontinuing Vocaloid products they made or distributed.
>>8935 There was an interesting comment from one of the Maghni devs months ago on Twitter iirc where it seemed they were potentially reconsidering the decision. It was only one dev out of the whole known team though so I’m not expecting much.
>>8900 On the western end these days, unless you’re profiting off a pirated voice bank I don’t think people will really care, especially if it’s a voice bank that you can’t even buy anymore. Piko fans don’t get mad at anyone who pirates Piko after all since the majority of his current active users don’t even own him in the slightest.
>>8908 Does this even count as piracy if you already bought him? You’re just having to go through another method to use the bank you purchased.
>>8929 This is actually the 2nd run of it sadly. I only found out about it way too late during the Harajuku Cafe run a few weeks ago and didn’t get a chance to make a reservation. People didn’t start talking about it until now rip.
Interestingly for this second run in Osaka, they switched out the baguette they were offering in Harajuku for Takoyaki. They gotta get in the local faves I guess.
>>10230 Gotta clarify that I don't care about ACE's previous controversies. But it bothers me that such an important voicebank is on the one engine no one cares about (except maybe AIbros).
>>10478 Basically the people who ran the original indiegogo campaign left the company which ended up fucking over the remaining team and now they're doing what they can to finish the project. Some baseless claims about it being a scam are being thrown around as well.
>>10479 Technically the only "new" thing happening is the rando calling them scammers. Maghni and Vocatone breaking up into two companies was officially announced a couple months ago, and (unfortunately) the development problems have been happening for years. The old team didn't have much business experience and massively underestimated how much extra time and money it would take to build an entire engine.
The current team is more realistic, but that means their reaction to this was "yeah sorry we're like 5 guys and if we have to cancel it we'll dump it on GitHub" so uhhhh
>>11010 they've been moderating the comments like crazy since most of their subscribers hate the NFT thing. the top comment on this the other day was something like "why would you make an ad for such an unappealing product?"
>>11023 Depends on the engine, but initial development fees vary from $30k USD on the low end to an estimated $60k-$70k USD on the high end, with additional fees accruing as development goes forward. This is before factoring in any costs it might take for recording and paying employees, too.
It's not cheap these days. During the V3 days, the cost used to be about $5k-$10k, which is why so many were made at the time.
>>11024 Really? I wouldn't have expected that when so much of the V6 library consists of random streamers and UTAU users. They don't seem to be selling as well either, so are they just producing a bunch of expensive voicebanks at a loss these days?
>>11025 The VXB ones and Robot Nurse were actually a result of Yamaha reaching out to the creators and not the creators reaching out to the company surprisingly. I’m not sure how much of the current V6 library is like this but GEMVOX, CFM, anyone who’s gone through Internet Co., and the Shiki Rowen are all paid up.
They’re not the only company doing this either of course. Juxer has a similar outreach program for ACE, so any popular UTAU getting an ACE bank is literally getting a cheap opportunity, and why wouldn’t you take it?
>>11028 ACE is extremely popular in China, but Chinese Vocaloid stuff almost never crosses over, so we mainly see the corporate puke. Yamaha just jumped on that bandwagon too, funnily enough
Basically is V5. The standard synthesis engine V6 runs is also just a slightly improved V5. (I like to call it V5.5 lol) Missile also said it could be comparable to V4 as well, but I'm pretty sure it's V5.
Regardless, we'll be able to tell for certain on release around May (that's when rewards are planned to be shipped). After install it'll be pretty easy to see which Vocaloid Editors pick it up. The V4 Editor was able to pick up the SP banks with no issue for example, so if it's V5 or lower, no updates will be necessary for it to run in the older editors.
The screams are pretty insane, i had no idea SynthV was capable of powerful vocals like that. I remember back then if people wanted to make vocaloids sing metal they'd put chorus and distortion on the vocals to make it sound like screaming.
