search is kinda crap

Search is alright for me, i just wish people tagged the songs properly. A lot of the stuff under "trip hop" isn't trip hop (like Calalini and Circus Monster, how in the world is that Trip Hop?).

Also funny that the top artist for that tag is one of us.

>>18632
I know it's a weird comparison to make but I think VocaDB's tagging system should work more like RateYourMusic's where you can vote against / report tags.

>>18632
>Search is alright for me
It works if you know exactly what you're looking for, like the right characters of a song/producer name down to the letter. But it can't really search by relevance, so if the query is slightly wrong, you get an unsorted list or stuck in loading hell. At least that's been my experience.

>>18635
Okay i'll give you that, it is pretty slow

I think a lot of the people who say that "Vocaloid is dead" should check out VocaDB instead of relying on the algo

ClipboardI….png - 50.47 KB (608x345)

Somehow i just found out that they have a forum

So many vocatubers (I hate that term) pump out garbage videos about how "this is the most controversial vocaloid song of the century" when they should instead be making videos introducing newbies to VocaDB, teaching them how to use it so they can find songs they actually like.

>>18632
Search is kinda weird but its at least functional, i feel like they should overhaul it

vocaloid youtubers were fine in the 2010s when they talked about voicebanks and made mmd skits. at least it helped a lot of newbies get into vocaloid and discover new voicebanks.

>>18985
No, vocaloid youtubers in the 2010s talked about how much they wanted to fuck len, lol

anybody know if its possible to disable notifications on vocadb?

It hasn't been actively developed for years now. Search is horrible, the site times out routinely during high traffic or even seemingly randomly. The UI is a great case of developer design in so many ways, but especially in small viewports. The notifications are a hot mess of an email inbox crossed with a to do list.

I've been following their supposed "redesign" for years now and it's mostly stuck in a planning phase, the excuse being there's only one developer. The trouble is the redesign looming has actively pushed people like me away from contributing to the current master or even just getting an extension out there to fix a lot of the headaches. Obviously it's an invaluable hub, but the editors are the saving grace.

>>19042
>their supposed "redesign"
Got anything on this? I'm curious

>>19042
>the redesign looming has actively pushed people like me away from contributing
If nobody's actually developing it, would it really be an issue to focus on the current version? Genuinely curious

>>19042
Personally, i only have an issue with the notifications and the search which sometimes feels sluggish. But other than that it has helped me discover some smaller artists which is neat.

>>19062
Same here, the search is what prevents it from being perfect for me. I don't really mind the UI, i'm actually glad that they kept it like that for years.

VocaDB wasn't laggy until it became mainstream in the western fandom a few years ago. I'm not sure what would fix it, but it's not built for that much traffic.

>>19059
https://github.com/VocaDB/vocadb/issues/1450
It's been pinned in alpha for over two years now. There isn't much to see because it's not really even that far along.

>>19061
The current staff on the dicksword brush off most criticisms as being things that will be addressed in upcoming work. When there isn't much clarity on the roadmap, or what work would conflict with what is existing or upcoming changes, there's less will to refactor anything that might soon get thrown out and there's less motivation for anyone to review changes for merge. If there isn't enthusiasm for giving the site a new coat of paint, usually the thing devs are most enthusiastic to do, there isn't bandwidth for incremental changes. Managing your own extension to accomplish the same would just be shouldering the support burden for yourself. The few people developing for VocaDB are mostly choosing to leverage the API for themselves.

The theme is less of a problem, even if it's dated. The basic things like forms poorly wrapping, no stick nav in notifications (see how much you scroll when you have anything more than about 20 notifications), horrible hierarchies, and zero accessibility concern are why it's hobbled. Adding songs is one of the most common interactions and there are just a few things from the top of my head that need work:
- Zero progress indication when you paste a link in to grab metadata
- Metadata stops populating automatically if you add an artist while waiting for it to load in
- Duplicate entries show up below the fold in the collapsed viewport, so you need to scroll to know if you're wasting your time
- Adding artists or associating original entries is best accomplished by opening another a tab, finding a producer/contributor page, and pasting in the link. A sensible view here would use something like a butterfly or book design with a more complete search.
I go through this flow a lot and combined with the irregular response times, it's a great headache. There are more notes I squirreled away somewhere for the site at large, but I'm not a consultant and I don't really feel like bitching directly when it's effectively a skeleton crew that took over for riipah years ago. The focus since then has been keeping the site online and it's mostly a miracle it's stood up this long.

I love VocaDB but i wish they'd adopt the genre system RYM with a main one and influences

Highlighted PVs page is all covers now. Thanks 32ki.

lol

This, and also letting us downvote tags

>>22592
Could be a double edged sword

>>22592
If a tag is wrong or unapplicable you should just report it so a trusted user can remove it. The site's userbase is way too young and naive to be responsible with voting.

>>22650
Age means nothing. Majority of people in general these days don't do well with such things.

>>22653
If age wasn't a shorthand this site wouldn't be 18+.

>>22664
That's just a formality all sites do to some degree either to comply with a law or to avoid liability. I am sure some posters here are under 18 as literally nothing would stop them from posting.

>>22668
Sad but true, I used to be on 4chan years ago when I was 12. But at the same time I'd rather have that than shit like face verification.

>>22669
As much as I want to complain and warn of dangers of age verification especially ID and facial recognition Id just leave it for enshitification thread.

>>22668
That reminds me of how Teto's voice provider was 15 when she originally voiced the character on 2channel. She's in her early 30's now.

VocaDB needs new servers, it takes forever to load a page

>>23148
I ragged on it in this thread too but I think they also just have a lot of problems with bots over the last 3-6 months, based on the dicksword. There have been points where they've put the whole site behind Cloudflare Turnstile and right now the APIs are still blocked in China and a few other places.

>>23150
Sounds like they need a reverse proxy

painful

>>22668
This is true for all anon imageboard sites out there. But there isn't much you can do without resorting to evil shit like faceid, which pretty much goes against the philosophy of these sites, so i'd say the current verification stuff we have is fine despite it being as ineffective as what porn sites use.

I wonder how riipah feels knowing he created one of the most important Vocaloid websites ever

how many of you actually use the vocadb forums?

>>24381
I just found out they're a thing through this post

>>24382
Here you go
Its a pretty chill place honestly
https://vocadb.net/discussion

>>24381
Staff doesn't even use the forums. I generally only reply to threads out of pity because I hate seeing questions left hanging.
