Unfortunately it seems like it's getting a bit of backlash already. Do you think that the Japanese fandom sees all of us as an angry mob or some sort of moral police? Sometimes i fear this will affect the relationship between both fandoms, seeing as how there seems to be some new moral outrage over a song every week when it comes to Twitter westerners.

Uh… that “Ohhoai” thing is basically one of those NSFW expressions that’s been trending in some circles in Japan lately. It originally comes from “ohho” (that “oho voice” thing) + “eye.” If you search “オホ声” or “オッホアイ,” you’ll probably find the details, but yeah—it's NSFW, so be careful.

yes.
UI is a VTuber-inspired Voiceroid, but since a lot of VTuber fans are into it, slightly sexual jokes tend to creep in, which feels like a waste in a lot of ways. Lately there've been more good songs, so I hope they keep pushing in that direction.

I'm familiar with Ui so I knew this already.

To be honest, I don't think anyone here really minds the sexual jokes. /leek/ mostly consists of older Vocaloid fans so we're used to them. If anything, we're more concerned that they might attack the producers making them, since it has happened before on Twitter (Zaako, Osiris Dance, etc).

Mikudayo Sat, Feb 7, 2026, 08:32 PM No.17206

>>17204
Got it. I'd heard that overseas Vocaloid fans can be pretty strict about sexual content—sometimes even openly disgusted by it—so I guess I was being a bit overly cautious.
Thanks for letting me know.

Mikudayo Sat, Feb 7, 2026, 08:42 PM No.17207

>>17206
The anon you replied to is right. I think most people here condemn that type of behavior. There is a difference between the western fandom on Twitter, and the western fandom on other sites. Sometimes it overlaps and you'll have people who are okay with it and people who are uncomfortable with it. This place, however, is mostly made up of oldhead otaku between the 20-30 age range, who grew up listening to songs like Kurumi☆Ponchio.

So most of us on /leek/ don't really mind sexual themes in Vocaloid songs because we're used to them. All the reactions in this thread have been of surprise or concern for the producer, since we know that western fans tend to attack them for making such songs.

That being said, though, I'm sorry that western fans on Twitter have given you that impression of us.

Hypothetical question but I wonder if there was ever a scenario involving an extremely controversial song using Shigure Ui, would that drama extend to the *real* Shigure Ui? Obviously it wouldn’t be her fault but bad actors (which are very common in the Vtuber community) could make it blow up. You could apply this to any Vtuber voicebank really. Just a hypothetical

I only really have 2 things I can say about the song.

1. I and a lot of others probably wouldn’t give a fuck if it wasn’t for the fact that Yuki was used. Like, if you’re going to use a bank voiced by an adult, in a sexual song, go ahead, if it has something I don’t agree with, then I just won’t listen to it again. Use a voicebank voiced by someone who was a child at the time for a song that isn’t appropriate for a child to sing and I think everyone can agree there’s a bit of a line being crossed, whether it’s for attention or not.

2. Did they sample Rin-chan Now??? There’s a piano the sounds pulled right from it dfhhftjmf

Maybe this kind of video background isn't possible without the use of gen AI.

How else could someone replicate a moving dream-like photo-realistic background? If it was something generated using ethically sourced footage, would it have been okay? It seems hard to self-generate videos to minimize the impact on the environment, though.

I don't care personally but it's not that hard to recreate a dream-like envnironment with 3D software. Have you seen those Gmod maps with titles like "places from your dreams"? Those are made entirely within the Hammer editor.

I meant like with another company. Idk if Ms. Stockley is contractually unable or not, but she's expressed interest in recording an update in the past, and it'd be amazing if she somehow got a SynthV or V6 library even if Miriam as a 'character' is left behind. I love her voice.

>SynthV or V6
Highly unlikely, we haven't gotten any stock image Vocaloids since CYVA and CYMAN plus she's still stuck in limbo due to Zero-G owning the rights to Miriam the character. And Zero-G are clearly not interested in bringing back their vocalsynths.
