I won't link the post because it was leaked documents from a dramakuso thread but one of them attributes Sonika to VocaTone. On top of that Sonika's contest winning design is featured in the music video for Oliver's demo from 2011 which was uploaded to the VocaTone Youtube account, and according to someone on the Vocaverse forums, at some point they started retweeing Sonika art on Twitter.

I speculate that Sonika has been owned by VocaTone for years now. Though i'm not sure if what they own is the voicebank or the character.

Here's some posts from 2020 on Twitter that confirm VocaTone was retweeting/liking Sonika related content (including year old posts as evidenced by the second tweet here, though the Vocaverse source says they've been doing this since 2016).

My guess is that after plans for V4 fell through VocaTone wanted to put her in Maghni AI. The tweets are from December 2020, and guess what else was announced on December 2020? That's right, just a few days later Maghni AI would be announced.
