I made this cover as a joke. Honestly, Sonika really isn't that hard to tune so i'm not sure what people's excuses for not using her are. You can achieve something similar to growling by messing with the pitch editor. Alternatively you can use Vocalshifter which is free.

I don't think we should worry about Sonika yet. PowerFx died because it became Soundation and i assume Vocaloid was seen as unprofessional. Zero-G as far as i know hasn't pulled any stunts like this and out of all companies they seem like the one that was most in touch with fans. Again, they quit vocaloid following the cancellation of Sonika V4 and they haven't really touched any of their vsynth stuff since. They did discontinue LEON and LOLA a while back though so maybe I'm just coping and Sonika'a days really are numbered. But i dont see it happening this decade if it happens at all.

The V1s were canned due to lack of V2 cross-compat. V2s are waiting for all their codes to run out before nuking everything, but no new codes are being made. Zero-G is one of my favorite Vocaloid companies and they've made a lot of my favorite banks (Sonika, Miriam, Tonio, Leon, etc) and they still engage with fans, despite not wanting to return to synths. Maybe one day we'll get Zero-G to work on VSynths again, though I doubt they'll work on an actual Vocaloid. Maybe SynthV, or a meme tier competitor like Maghni.

The only western company i'm aware of that develops synths for SV is Eclipsed Sounds, the rest are all Japanese or Chinese, so a SV upgrade for any of those banks seems highly unlikely. Developing for SV also costs a lot from what i've heard. As much as it hurts i don't think anyone would be willing to invest that much money onto something like Tonio SV. Now, Maghni on the other hand…

She's was made in response to the success of Hatsune Miku. Zero-G wanted to make a cute idol girl for the English side of the community and that's how Sonika was created (that was, of course, before an actual English Miku voicebank had come out)

Unfortunately she never achieved much success even back when she released, so we kinda turned her into an unofficial mascot. You need to like Sonika to post on this website.

Currently Soni's most popular songs are aiSeNMa by CircusP (2012) and MTC2 by S3RL (2014). So as you can see she hasn't really had a hit song in more than 10 years. A couple producers have been using her recently, such as nobodyP, who made a cool rock song with her. Some /leek/ users have expressed interest in making Sonika stuff, but as far as i know nothing has come out of that yet. She unfortunately remains obscure and unpopular. Hopefully not for long.

I wasn't there when it happened but from what i could fidn: in 2019 some guy with a reputation for making illegal voicebanks and selling them was upset that Zero-G wasn't updating Miriam so he got in contact with Miram Stockley herself to ask if he could make an UTAU using samples taken from the original voicebank and she allegedly said it was okay. Then he made a shitty CV and started distributing it. He was apparently also a big douche who couldn't take criticism, stalked and attacked people. Zero-G eventually responded but I'm not sure if action was taken.
