>>11923 It's normal for there to be a period of inactivity after there's tons of activity. It's almost a cycle. That being said, get ready for another storm by the end of the year.
i feel so sad whenever i hear anyone talk about their favorite vocaloids being or becoming a bit unpopular. i wish i could produce a thousand songs with every one of them so everyone becomes happy (except shiki rowen he can fuck off) anons
Know what? This thread made me curious about "newgens" on the Japanese side of the fandom. Are they treated the same as in the west?. I know that they at least have similar views on what we call "mesmerizerkuso" with some producers such as Atena mocking it and the Japanese side of Twitter having discussions about what constitutes kuso. Apparently Konton Boogie is one of those songs that's seen as "kuso" on the JP side of the fandom.
>>11958 It might have died down at this point but there was a while where I'd click on popular songs and constantly see jp comments complaining about people who think they're from Tiktok or Proseka
>>11971 There's nothing wrong with liking a popular Fanloid and reducing all Neru fans to newfags is stupid. But it is true that a lot of the newer fans mostly know her from Mesmerizer / Triple Baka memes.
Anyway when is Haku going to get the same love Neru is getting?. She's popular too right?.
>>11997 >>11998 i vaguely remember peke getting a little popular again at one point during 2020 or 2021 but it didn't last very long. her peak was in 2017-2019 ish
I kinda miss the fanloid culture of the 2000's and early 2010's when people made fanloids with a purpose rather than just to make an OC or the 1000th Teto / Pearto joke derivative.
>>12011 True but Osana isn't popular. And it's gonna take more than Hioka retweeting a post about her for her to become well established in the Fanloid space. We're a small forum with niche appeal so anything we create is bound to be as well. She also doesn't have any covers and non-official art.
Why do people hate Rowen again? I know he's controversial for being a literal diaperfur + using SynthV to promote a V6 demo but the voicebank isn't terrible.
>>12013 i think people still tend to have a weird hatred of furries for no reason also never heard about the synth v bit, do you have a source for that?
>>12015 I can no longer find the demo but basically the team behind him ran a Shiki Rowen RVC over a reference of SynthV Yuma. If you look it up on Twitter you'll probably find posts talking about it.
>>12030 True, it's pretty chill here even if it's not the most popular thing. Unfortunately I've heard from a few JP fans that it was hard to defend loving Kaito or Gakupo, let alone anyone actually manly.
>>12154 kagomeP and Nunununu working together does not surprise me in the slightest lol.
I do wish kagome made his own music again though, before Yukopi he had the most popular Yuki song and he was and still is one of the best to ever do it. Not to mention that the Japanese side of the scene would probably receive him with open arms if he were to release a new song or music video.
>>11872 he technically is. internet co doesn't care about any of their old voicebanks plus he is based on a copyrighted character so i doubt we'll ever get a new gachapoid voicebank.
>>12186 I wouldn’t say they don’t care, it’s more so that both Gachapoid and Lily aren’t their own characters. Like AHS, a majority of the vocaloids associated with them aren’t their own IP. The only one they acknowledged within the last few years was Kokone who they created.
>>12215 Pretty sure they’re active, they’re just being anon. Not a big deal honestly tho. I would rather see producers born from our little /leek/hole than existing ones just coming and using the site. Feels more communal.
>>12236 i personally don't care for them at all though every once in a while i'll use one of their vids as background noise.
i also don't really mind the informative videos or video essays when the information they provide is correct given they do throw in some interesting facts here and there and they can be useful for newgen fans. my only real issue with them is when they spread blatant misinformation and/or force their opinion about a song they dislike in a video that has nothing to do with it (cough) rabbit hole (cough) mimukawa nice try (cough) pretty much every song about death/murder (cough). producer bashing in general is fucking stupid and one of my biggest issues with the western vocaloid community in general.
as for suwawako, i don't hate him like most of the WVF seems to. the dude has /jp/ roots i believe, which i respect, but he clearly got into vocaloid after mesmerizer and it shows. he should continue making videos about things he does know about like touhou.
>>12236 It seems to be growing lately but I've still yet to find one that I'd solidly recommend tbh. The majority of new channels seem to be targeting new fans, and the ones run by older fans are still hit or miss.
I miss the old Teto, straight from the 'Go Teto Chop up the soul Teto, set on her goals Teto I hate the new Teto, the bad mood Teto The AI-tuned Teto, spaz in the news Teto I miss the sweet Teto, chop up the beats Teto I gotta to say at that time I'd like to meet Teto See I invented Teto, it wasn't any Tetos And now I look and look around and there's so many Tetos I used to love Teto, I used to love Teto I even had the red twin drills, I thought I was Teto What if Teto made a song about Teto Called "I Miss The Old Teto", man that'd be so Teto
>>12237 These are my thoughts on the matter pretty much. Anon said it well.
Of course there are some suwawako videos that I don’t think are the greatest in information but still do it in entertainment for me. I don’t think the guy is a new fan borne from Mesmerizer like anon does but I do think there is a point where he’s just been riding the wave a bit because it’s pulling in views for him.
>>12278 Thanks anon >>12279 We're not close so I can't guarantee he knows about /leek/, sorry. I just know the person who got him into Vocaloid... more like two years ago now. They're an oldgen fan so that's why he covers stuff from way before his time.
>>12276 Quite funny how he seems to be more beloved by Touhou fans than Vocaloid fans. I don't mind the guy, some videos are indeed bad like the recent one about weird UTAUs, but Twitter makes it sound like he's satan.
>>12236 Nothing against them specifically, but video essays suck and they doubly suck when they are done by teenagers and early 20-somethings that desperately want to be an authority.
The green one is Chaun Meguri Orange one is obviously Adachi Rei I don't know who the blue one is but I have seen multiple people draw her. There's also Shion Tsukumo who is meant to be some sort of sister of Rei.
>>12430 like that other anon said, she sounds miku. the AI did not make her sound realistic at all, just smoother, which is what matters because i really don't want a literal saki fujita voicebank.
>>12430 Call me a bitter old man but I think Miku voicebanks peaked with vocaloid 2's. That being said the new one isnt bad but i gotta hear more to form a proper opinion. So far she sounds like regular Miku with Mitchie M tuning.
>>12507 I'm not gonna link anything here because drama posts are banned on /leek/ but let's just say that he isn't a great guy. Also I remember hearing somewhere that the Haku voicebank was made without permission from CAFFEIN but I don't know how true that is.
sometimes i come across people who have an absurd amount of utau voicebanks, and i wonder to myself.. how does their voice not give out?!?! where do they find the time to record????? to OTO them all???
>>12544 as a VP of two misc. leekaloids, i feel this so much. there's a ton of unfinished projects i have UTAU-wise and i don't know how people can find so much time to oto and record!
To the few producers who browse /leek/, even the lurkers like Monochrome and Atena. The small Sonika fanclub that resides on this board is starving for Sonika originals since 2011. Please give her a chance after you're done with the other green one thanks.
She was a forced meme early into 39chan's history and then it spiraled from there to the point where people realized she's actually kinda good and her potential to be the "english Miku" was sabotaged by both Zero-G and Yamaha.
I used to get all my Vocaloid news off Xitter but it has gotten to a point where all those accounts are barely active and /news/ has become a better source to find out about Vocaloid happenings. Does anybody else feel this?.
This boom feels like 2012 in a lot of ways, but in particular, there's too much new music to keep up with. In 2030 we could dig up great tunes from people who made like 4 songs this year and then dipped since they got drowned out.
>>12602 I think that's literally what's happening. It's the Vocaloid boom from the late 2000's - early 2010's but on a larger scale and with way more one-hit wonders. And instead of getting a shit ton of voicebanks on Vocaloid we're getting them on various engines.
>>12603 It feels really weird to live through the "low point" in ~2018 and into this boom. Like, I've listened to the same amount of vocaloid over all those years. The fluctuation has little effect on my fandom, and if anything it was easier to be an engaged fan when it was slower. It's all good news though since a big crop of new fans today is a healthy amount of old fans tomorrow. >>12605 It'll be my WhoTAU, check back in 2 years.
>>12603 Technically even Vocaloid is doing good. When V6 launched there were lots of controversied and people thought it was doomed to fail like V5 but ever since galaco released on it, its been having its own V3 moment.
V5 is still an engine no one in the community even asked for. It had no reason to exist. And in terms of voicebanks it didn't deliver, there wasn't even a Miku V5. V6 had a rough start but at least its doing well now.
>>12621 Currently posting. >>12622 It straddled the concatenative and AI synth eras in a weird way. I think with V6 Yamaha at least kind of knows what product it wants to sell.
I love v6 personally. The fact that it sounds "bad" is a good thing to me. It isn't realistic like SV but it's still smooth and the engine noise isn't as bad as Cevio's
>>12641 Everyone is starting to get tired of the Teto boom so they're searching for new things to do. New generation is starting to realize there are other loids than Teto or Miku and Gumi is perfect for this since she's been a western favourite since forever.
>>12666 >I feel like the casual fans who aren't into it as hard are starting to feel it too the very casual fans are still on triple baka, teto pear and bbno$ humor. The hate a see towards them are from diehard fans and ppl from outside the fandom
>>12669 Some of them will be. Every mainstream vocaloid moment funnels x% of people into the deeper fandom layers, even stuff like the Lucky Star OVA crossover from way back. Give them like 10 years to age out of obnoxiousness
>>12670 Im going to be real. I was never that big of a Vocaloid fan. I was more of a Touhou fan, so I saw Vocaloid stuff from time to time, and I even used UTAU before (Teto and Ritsu) just to try it out for my acoustic guitar covers. Vocaloid wasn't really my main focus until recently, when I started hearing SV Teto and got amazed by how she sounded. I also wasn't a big fan of the robotic, high-pitched sounds back then. And now i've become a fan by pretty much consuming newgen content and going down the rabbit hole that is this vocaloid scene
>>12671 I was already a fan in the early 2010's but it was in 2019 that it became my main obsession. Inabakumori pulled me back in with Lost Umbrella and I was just happy to hear Kaai Yuki in something that wasn't a horror song for once.
>>12679 The vsynth we didnt know we needed. Seriously. Now that everybody is trying to hard to be realistic its good to have an engine that sounds robotic.
>>12680 i would love vocaloid much more hadn't it gone with that dogshit ai and instead had gone with sample based vocaloids forever and forever. i mean at least rei gets a sample based voicebank i've heard
>>12700 I like the AI technology they use in Vocaloid now because I prefer my loids sounding unrealistic but I do agree that sample based is superior and cleaner sounding.
But I doubt we're gonna get new sample based voicebanks.
* Miku, because of the colour scheme. * Gumi, because of the recent discution and the "goggles"(sunglasses). * That one Utauloid with the piano dress, because of the piano dress.
The thing with English vocalsynths is that none of them are moe or anime-like (except Elly). There's the e-capsule designs but most people don't care about them except Sonika's for some reason.
>>12766 >Jubyphonic-y That's one way to describe her lol >>12767 Ruby might be coming back but with the whole Maghni AI fiasco last year her fate's uncertain.
>>12765 yeah the fact that they were gonna get rachie of all people to voice her for v4 makes that even more evident but yamaha had to fuck everything up gg
>>12768 I guess my thought is that the JP characters that already reached memetic status in the west can be the “english Miku” once they have easy-to-use EN voicebanks. I think you could describe SV Teto as an english Miku. V6 Miku could really breach containment though. Not that there’s no purpose for native engloids. Solaria is a great example of what a popular native engloid can look like. I just think the niche is different, maybe more angled towards professional musicians. To me there’s no reason the flagship Vocaloid character in the English-speaking fandom needs to be a native english speaker.
>>12676 a bit late to this but... Mesmerizer is not a song that i listen daily because im not a big fan of the high pitched tone but i enjoy playing it on rythm games
>>12604 This is my issue with Tetofags. The majority do not care about UTAU, Vocaloid or Vocal Synth culture in general. They just like the red meme girl because its cool to like her. I'd be devastated if the same happened to Gumi.
>>12873 This might have changed with V6 but I think it's Bruno and Clara, with Clara slightly less popular than Bruno. They got overshadowed hard by Maika, who actually uses a different reclist than them.
>>12905 If you're from Spain or even Latin America the Voctro Labs vocaloids are well known. Obviously Maika is the most popular but Bruno and Clara were well received too.
>>12917 V2 engine noise was doing some heavy lifting for Luka’s unique timbre. I wonder if they could re-introduce some of her thick low sound if they worked closely enough with Yamaha
>>12921 Miku v6 is probably trained on audios from the NT era so realistically they could make a Luka v6 that sounds like v2 by training her on audios from the v2 era. The result would be a smoother v2.
>>12927 Same here. Someone once said that the Kagamine Twins are hard to fuck up, all of their voicebanks sound good. I'd imagine V6 would sound great too.
