As if the recent news about UMG copyrighting random UTAU covers wasn't bad enough... A recent post I saw seems to show evidence that Deviantart appears to be collapsing. Now some of you might see Deviantart as the "cringy" art website from the 2000s with fetish art and traced art, but it's also home to hundreds if not thousands of MMD models, motions, etc (some of which come from abandoned accounts).

If we're really getting closer to a future in which Deviantart doesn't exist, go download your favorite model, your favorite motion, hell, even the weird fetish art if that's your thing. Save it on a hard drive or upload it to a site like the Internet Archive.

>inb4 why should i trust some xitter user

This isn't new, and it's a likely scenario. It has been happening for years, but it has only become more apparent with time.

While you're at it, consider the following services.

Art websites (for sharing MMD pics):
https://pixiv.net/
https://zdiskuss.com/ (closest thing you'll ever get to old deviantart, it has a MMD resources category too)
https://sheezy.art/

File sharing services:
https://bowlroll.net/ (recommended for models/motions)
https://mega.io/
https://www.mediafire.com/
http://catbox.moe/ (no account needed)
https://www.dropbox.com/
http://drive.google.com/

There's an Archive Team project that's been stuck for a couple years, if any of you guys know how to code:

>Saved! (Groups)
What does this mean exactly? Did they save images and journals from groups?

Honestly this just makes me very sad. A lot of people reduce Deviantart's cultural significance to "le fetish art site" but it's more than that, it's a time capsule of what fandom culture used to be and the freedom you had on the pre-corporate internet. I've made so many friends and memories on that site, roleplaying in those IRC-like chatrooms it had, seeing people's art styles evolve, making PLZ accounts with original art, etc.

But it's also sad for the MMD community. So much of what the western MMD community has created is hosted on Deviantart and not even just models and motions but also USTs and VSQs.

I've been mourning the old Deviantart for years now. Wix buying it was bad enough, but Eclipse was the last straw for most people and since then the site's been a zombie that just refuses to die. Hearing it might not survive this time sucks. This is a terrible loss for the internet as a whole, no matter how much of your shitty art is still here or how many bad experiences you've had on the platform.

I can vouch for the second site. It's partnered with our affiliate sites and formerly 39chan, and though I can see the 'retro' aesthetic being off putting to some it at least tries to stick to its roots and doesn't ban any type of art like most other art websites (except AI, political art/propaganda and illegal content).

The forums are also surprisingly active which is neat.

It's at least all this stuff DA already deleted

That download limit looks really bad. It's gonna greatly hinder archival efforts, unless they can get around it.

What if someone hacked their servers to directly access the files getting around the limit? Not saying to do that but...

The person who made the post has been on record to have made hoax posts before, but honestly, we're probably in the best time to archive everything right now. I doubt it'll be everything-everything, but we'll get the stuff people worry about much.

Admittedly, I've seen a lot of MMD users abandon DA over the last few years. Mostly because of eclipse being forced on lol.

Honestly, I don't think it's going to be as bad as when we lost loda.jp.

Hoax or not I'm a former Deviantart user and i've seen the cracks starting to form over time. Shit's unfortunately been fucked for some time now.

Best case scenario if Deviantart does shut down, we get to download our data. But this is sadly Wix we're talking about.

Yeah I should have attempted to verify that it was true before reposting the images, so as not to accidentally spread misinformation.
Unfortunately, the download limit is real.

Its all been going downhill since Eclipse. That update singlehandedly killed Deviantart.

 No.845

>>844
Wix purchasing it is what killed it. Eclipse was just one of the symptoms of something much worse. But I'll leave it at that before this turn into the /g/ Internet thread.

Also Eclipse is possibly one of the worst redesigns in internet history. I'm shocked that a company that's all about web design came up with it. Deviantart is one of those website you simply cannot modernize, it's like trying to turn 4chan into a minimalistic ad friendly flat design shithole, it doesn't work, it never will. I'm not sure what went through their heads making that awful design.

 No.846

I wonder how many DA-era Vocaloid fans browse 39chan. The majority of them were either young Millennials or old Zoomers so I don't doubt we have some here. We need you guys.
