1149 - 39chan 2.0 Meta Thread

Previous thread was old and irrelevant so let's do this again now that we've switched engines. 39chan now runs on a modified version of koshi, which is what hikari3.ch uses. Questions, suggestions and complaints go in this thread.

Puzzle (#1150 - Oct 9, 2026, 23:54):
Currently some features are still broken, a lot of the old themes are missing. These are things we'll be correcting over time, but the site is usable right now and that's what matters.

Mikudayo (#1151 - Oct 9, 2026, 23:57):
>>1150
are you no longer owner

Puzzle (#1152 - Oct 9, 2026, 23:58):
>>1151
Still am, technically, but the "Owner" tag doesn't exist on this new engine so I show up as admin. Mods show up as Mod.

Mikudayo (#1153 - Oct 10, 2026, 00:04):
TCC link on home page is broken

Puzzle (#1154 - Oct 10, 2026, 00:06):
>>1153
I'm aware. Expect things to remain as they are until Sunday.
You can still access it via https://tcc.39chan.moe/

Puzzle (#1155 - Oct 10, 2026, 00:12):
Hey, on the bright side... we have NicoNico embeds

Mikudayo (#1156 - Oct 10, 2026, 00:29):
/c/ threads should probably be removed off the front page

Mikudayo (#1157 - Oct 10, 2026, 01:51):
Testing bilibili embed

Mikudayo (#1158 - Oct 10, 2026, 03:13):
Quick reply is showing up on mobile and covers a big chunk of the screen making it hard to type

Puzzle (#1159 - Oct 10, 2026, 03:24):
>>1158
Will be fixed along with many other bugs

Mikudayo (#1160 - Oct 10, 2026, 03:36):
Not being able to see the 'x many hours ago' thing without hovering is kinda disorienting me, I'm kinda realizing how much I relied on it to quickly scroll up as many hours as I was afk. Doesn't help that the post dates don't align to my timezone at all either. If it can't be helped I'm sure I'll get used to the new change eventually though.

Mikudayo (#1161 - Oct 10, 2026, 04:21):
>>1160
Seconding

Mikudayo (#1162 - Oct 10, 2026, 04:21):
>>1153
Radio too

Mikudayo (#1163 - Oct 10, 2026, 04:30):
I appreciate the little easter eggs that were added to the homepage like miku going yay when you click her.

Mikudayo (#1164 - Oct 10, 2026, 06:18):
Woke up to a nice surprise! I like the new design, I'll have to get used to some small changes but I don't mind it, some links are broken though, like the other dayos already said
>>1160
Same for me
>>1163
That's so cool, good thing you shared, I probably wouldn't have found it

Mikudayo (#1165 - Oct 10, 2026, 06:27):
>>1149
hover quotes lack background, at least in the Hachune Classic style

also forgot to put in the captcha before posting this, and got a transparent popup with no message and just an "ok" button

figamin (#1166 - Oct 10, 2026, 07:00):
Hi dayos, hope you like the new site. I'm busy all day today so I can't fix anything immediately but the site should be stable enough until I have time tomorrow evening to look things over.
:kaitolick:

Mikudayo (#1170 - Oct 10, 2026, 14:02):
>>1160
This. Please bring it back.

Puzzle (#1171 - Oct 10, 2026, 14:34):
>>1163
Type ADAMSAN anywhere on the frontpage if you haven't already.

>>1170
Planned. A lot of these features will be added and corrected as mentioned earlier. Just give us a bit of time.

Mikudayo (#1172 - Oct 10, 2026, 14:38):
This isn’t super important, but could the View All Posts button be more prominent on mobile? Maybe in between the clock and featured threads

Mikudayo (#1173 - Oct 10, 2026, 14:50):
Not sure if bug or design flaw but the quick reply box character count blocks the view of what is typed once you reach that point it just overlaps wirh each other ibto a mess. Not too big a deal to rush on but is a nuisance.

Puzzle (#1174 - Oct 10, 2026, 14:51):
>>1173
>design flaw
Correct. Fixing tomorrow.

Mikudayo (#1175 - Oct 10, 2026, 16:56):
Archived threads dont have images. The toriko creation thread has had all of its images wiped.

Puzzle (#1176 - Oct 10, 2026, 16:57):
>>1175
Okay, glad to know our 2.0 launch is going as well as Cyberpunk 2077's. Will let the rest of the team know.

figamin (#1177 - Oct 10, 2026, 17:01):
>>1175
We have backups this will be restored later

TD (#1179 - Oct 10, 2026, 19:45):
Not sure if anyone else has run into it yet but I’ve noticed a few hiccups with trying to post with trip code

Mikudayo (#1182 - Oct 10, 2026, 20:24):
Is the traffic statistics page no longer available? Can't seem to find it

Puzzle (#1183 - Oct 10, 2026, 20:26):
>>1182
Yeah a lot of things are missing/broken. Just like the radio, it'll come back.

Mikudayo (#1184 - Oct 11, 2026, 14:00):
Bring back visible sage, please.

Mikudayo (#1186 - Oct 11, 2026, 14:06):
Also it'd be nice if the overboard was back in the top bar.

Mikudayo (#1187 - Oct 11, 2026, 14:42):
When is the site getting updated

Mikudayo (#1188 - Oct 11, 2026, 16:33):
I had trouble getting the Nicovideo embeds to play it just eternally loaded but I think I figured it out. It seems they have a weak ad blocking detection so you have to allow res.ads.nicovideo.jp even just once on your current IP is enough to make it work. No ads play for me when turning it off for Nicovideo so no need to block nicovideo.jp in your ad blockers.

Is it just me or did that YARAYARA embed have low volume? It seems to only do so in the embed. Is there a volume control or some sort of coded in limiter for Nicovideo embeds? Even at max volume on my phone it isnt that loud just medium volume at max.

Also I found an edge case annoyance. If you fill in the captcha and get verified but wait too long to post where it becomes revoked so when you click reply you just get the popup telling you "captcha (ok)" and you are forced to reload the page to do the captcha because you cant click on verified and the dialogue box does nothing but pester you.

figamin (#1190 - Oct 11, 2026, 21:05):
>>1187
I pushed out some fixes today, more to come tomorrow

Mikudayo (#1192 - Oct 12, 2026, 01:02):
bring back the the last 50 posts button please

Puzzle (#1193 - Oct 12, 2026, 01:45):
>>1192
Added to the features request list

Mikudayo (#1194 - Oct 12, 2026, 03:01):
>>1188
Ooooooh. I figured the volume thing it just is NicoNico embeds do default to half volume and on mobile you cant alter the volume in a way I could see which I see this now on a desktop.

Mikudayo (#1195 - Oct 12, 2026, 15:33):
The lag today isn't just on my side, right?

Mikudayo (#1196 - Oct 12, 2026, 15:35):
>>1195
Been quite laggy since 2.0 launch

Mikudayo (#1197 - Oct 12, 2026, 15:54):
>>1195
Site's faster than ever on my end so idk

Mikudayo (#1198 - Oct 12, 2026, 15:57):
I get this error when posting until i refresh
also new threads arent appearing on the homepage

Mikudayo (#1200 - Oct 12, 2026, 17:31):
>>1198
You do not need to refresh. It is posting too many times in a short time span. Issue is it does this even if first reply was stopped by a timed out captcha pass and nothing actually posted so it gets annoying getting stopped multiple times in a row from posting. I am not sure what the current setting is.

Mikudayo (#1201 - Oct 12, 2026, 19:05):
>>1196
I’ve been having some issues with buttons not clicking on mobile, not sure if lag or a skill issue

Mikudayo (#1138 - Oct 8, 2026, 02:37):

I assume OP wants something like a character holding a banhammer or mocking the viewer

Puzzle (#1139 - Oct 8, 2026, 02:38):

Don't worry, i can use this. I have something in mind. :yukarietto:

Mikudayo (#1022 - May 25, 2026, 02:06):

Mikudayo (#1062 - Jun 14, 2026, 02:38):
Credit to the anon on /mmd/ that made the original image

>>738
>>739
I approve of the Len ass banner

Mikudayo (#772 - Feb 13, 2026, 01:22):

Yes

Mikudayo (#776 - Feb 14, 2026, 02:10):

Mikudayo (#784 - Feb 15, 2026, 01:31):
>>774
The lack of Teto and the fact that the logo isn't even centered properly makes this banner ominous in a way i cannot even explain

Mikudayo (#785 - Feb 15, 2026, 10:25):
2000 hours in mspaint

Mikudayo (#786 - Feb 15, 2026, 10:51):

Mikudayo (#787 - Feb 15, 2026, 23:58):
>>761
Here's a banner and a banner ad. The ad could link to the FAQ with a new "Can I make a new thread?" section.

Mikudayo (#788 - Feb 16, 2026, 00:04):
>>787
Adding it as a regular banner for now. Might add it to the ad banner rotation if a new section is added.

Mikudayo (#789 - Feb 16, 2026, 00:50):

1038 - Themes / Userscripts Sharing Thread

Post custom themes or userscripts you've made for 39chan in this thread.

Here is one i published recently which lets you know when a thread is about to hit bump limit.
https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/580627-39chan-bump-limit-indicator
It can also be loaded without having Tampermonkey installed by copying the code into 39chan's Options -> User JS.

>>1038
Thank you for your service OP :rinthumbs:

Mikudayo (#1041 - Jun 1, 2026, 02:37):
>>1038
Does this work on other imageboards?

Mikudayo (#1042 - Jun 1, 2026, 02:59):
>>1041
If it runs on the same engine as 39chan (vichan) and you know the bump limit number then yeah it should but you gotta change it manually.

Mikudayo (#1086 - Aug 4, 2026, 23:26):
>>1038
Its broken. Sometimes it'll display a non existent limit.

Mikudayo (#1127 - Sep 30, 2026, 15:58):
vibecoded a user script/style to add URLs of embeds under the thumbnails - makes it easier to find if a video was already added to the thread

Puzzle (#1128 - Sep 30, 2026, 16:03):
>>1127
Just so you know this is a built in feature in 2.0

Mikudayo (#1129 - Sep 30, 2026, 18:32):
>>1128
I want 10 minutes of my life back
also a proper duplicate embed detection

Puzzle (#1130 - Sep 30, 2026, 18:32):
>>1129
>also a proper duplicate embed detection
dw this is also already a feature in 2.0

416 - Affiliates

Welcome to what might be one of the most requested threads on /meta/.

Are you interested in affiliating with 39chan? If the answer is yes, then this thread is for you. The process of affiliating with 39chan involves cross-linking — to put it simply, that just means you link to our site and we link to yours.

==Are there any rules on which types of websites you accept?==
Yes. Websites must be either '''entirely focused''' on Vocaloid or have at least '''some relation''' to it. Our only exceptions to this rule so far have been Wapchan and Hikari3, but that doesn’t mean we’ll make an exception for your site. If you run an imageboard or textboard, it must have a Vocaloid board at the very least and little to no controversial content. (For example: we will not affiliate with a website that contains a "Politics" board or is used '''exclusively''' to promote hate-speech - this is a hobby forum so we are very selective with who we partner with).
==What types of websites are allowed?==
Pretty much anything that isn't a personal website. We allow wikis, forums, fangames, fansites, social media clones, etc. As of June 2025 we are '''NOT''' accepting imageboards or textboards.
==So how do we affiliate with 39chan?==
Post your website under this thread alongside a 88x31 button for it (The button can be a gif, png, jpeg, etc). Within the week, a moderator will take a look at your website and approve it based on whether or not it meets our requirements. If it does, your button will be added to the frontpage. If not, your post will be deleted. Avoid using link shorteners. :meikoangry:

Mikudayo (#1104 - Sep 6, 2026, 19:10):
You guys should affiliate with more Vocaloid adjacent sites

Puzzle (#1105 - Sep 6, 2026, 19:21):
>>1104
The previous admins have tried as you can see here >>601
I'm not going to try and be a nuisance to other Vocaloid site webmasters

Mikudayo (#1119 - Sep 11, 2026, 20:19):
>>1105
VocaDB hasn't really updated its affiliates in a long time, idk what the old admins were expecting. Two of their current affiliates (Vocalnexus and Mikupa.ru) are dead and VNN hasn't been updated since covid.

Mikudayo (#1120 - Sep 11, 2026, 20:52):
>>1119
VocaDB in general doesnt seem to have been updated in a long time tbh

459 - 39chan's anniversary is in September

September 19, 2025 marks one year since 39chan.moe went live. Where were you when the cool Miku website launched and what will you do on its first anniversary?.

Mikudayo (#461 - Aug 7, 2025, 17:33):

39chan is so young...

Mikudayo (#462 - Aug 7, 2025, 17:36):
>>461
I could see it living a couple more years and becoming "old"

denpakun!!Vjr8c1E2SY (#463 - Aug 7, 2025, 17:57):
i should draw a thing if i have time but i'm not sure what

Mikudayo (#464 - Aug 7, 2025, 18:04):
>>462
>>461
I could see it living a decade more like some of the oldest imageboards but i can also see it becoming a shithole of low quality threads and spam the moment the mods stop caring about it (Most boards that live past a decade end up like this due to their original owners stepping down). Love or hate the jannies, they keep imageboards from becoming garbage dumps and right now it seems 39chan's mods are very active on the site and seem to care about its state considering some of the rule breaking posts i've seen here don't last a second.

moth (#465 - Aug 7, 2025, 18:13):
>>464
This won't be happening on my watch, but I can't promise that I'll own 39chan forever. I'm human and I have other responsibilities. I'm already extremely selective with my moderators/janitors so if I were to ever quit, I'd be even more selective with my successor.

A year already? Is this how parents feel when they see their kids grow up?

Mikudayo (#469 - Aug 8, 2025, 02:10):
I was on this site when Hachune Light was still the default theme, there was a hentai board and Sena didnt even have a voice provider yet so despite it being almost a year old now I'm already nostalgic for it. I hope this site sticks around for a little longer, it's the most unique imageboard site I've been in ever since Uboachan (before it became an off topic spam dumping ground instead of a Yume Nikki site) :kaitolick:

Mikudayo (#470 - Aug 8, 2025, 23:17):

Why is it that 39chan gets lumped in with Kissu, Wapchan and Hikari whenever I see people discussing altchans

moth (#560 - Oct 3, 2025, 02:41):
>>559
All of them have /a/ and /jp/ roots. We also share some staff members, figamin for example is an admin and developer here.

791 - Suggestion on embeds

YouTube embeds should use the privacy-enhanced NoCookie mode. It's moderately less invasive to privacy. All it does is make it so the embeds don't load a cookie until you play a video. Should in theory make pages load moderately faster too since less calls to outside sources. It's not very complicated to setup and it if done right wont break the current embeds. You also need to manually enable full screen in the embeds, that's why when you try to go full screen it wont let you. I assume this is just something that was not known about rather than a conscious decision to not have full screen.

Sankyu that was quick

Mikudayo (#1103 - Sep 6, 2026, 19:06):
We desperately need NicoNico embeds. If they can't be embedded via thumbnails like with Youtube they should at least do what 4chanX does with Youtube links but for Niconico links.

Mikudayo (#1106 - Sep 6, 2026, 20:31):
>>1103
Region locking I imagine makes things trickier. Might be possible ny ingegrating the code the Niconico plugin for Grayjay uses or what PipePipe does. Both open source so might be a similar technique to force it to work. What does 4chanx do? Just embed the thumbnail image and make it a clickable link im guessing?

Mikudayo (#1107 - Sep 7, 2026, 12:41):
On the topic of embeds, another very useful thing would be a duplicate embed detection

Mikudayo (#1113 - Sep 8, 2026, 14:05):
>>1103
Seconded. Must have.

Quick note: The song list hasn't been updated since December 2024 and we're looking into remaking it as a separate page on our website instead of Rentry.

Puzzle (#688 - Jan 6, 2026, 20:47):
Vocaloradio is likely getting 'remade' soon. As you have probably noticed the radio is currently outdated in design and functionality, and the current list of songs stops at early-mid 2025s songs.

Vocaloradio hasn't been touched since the change in ownership.

If all goes well we'll switch from Azura to a different software which will allow people to request songs, DJ , and more.

Mikudayo (#689 - Jan 6, 2026, 23:41):
>>688
thank you for your hard work! i'll be looking forward to it!
i enjoy using vocaloradio when i'm drawing and want to put something on in the background, so i'm very grateful

Mikudayo (#690 - Jan 7, 2026, 00:11):
>>688
nice! i always liked putting on the radio when i am bored

Mikudayo (#804 - Mar 1, 2026, 01:46):
When will the radio be updated if its going to be updated at all? We're already in March

Mikudayo (#810 - Mar 1, 2026, 12:03):
>>804
Soon. The delays have been due to it being low priority.

Mikudayo (#816 - Mar 1, 2026, 13:21):
>>688
When you say DJ do you mean uploading and cuing songs or do you mean livestreaming them mixing?

Puzzle (#817 - Mar 1, 2026, 13:23):
>>816
I was referring to live DJ mixing there. We were gonna switch from Azuracast to r/a/dio when i wrote that but apparently we can't so i wouldn't expect big changes if i were you, just new songs and maybe a less ugly radio page.

Mikudayo (#818 - Mar 1, 2026, 14:34):

970 - “Friends of 39chan”

I don’t know if this is really a good place for this but I’m not sure where else to vent about it. I used to be a 4channer a few years ago before leaving. I’ve been a vocaloid fan for a long time and only found out about 39chan because Smith Hioka did a Q&A here. One of the reasons I left 4chan/any other boards is that I’m fairly sensitive person and have some sense of PTSD due to the csem spam that gets spread around these kinds of sites. (Other shock images like gore, etc I can handle tho). From the other thread someone made here about moderation and my own experience lurking, this place is very safe. My issue started to replague me when I visited the “friends of 39chan” and went from wapchan to mootxico which had csem spam on it. I realize this usually isn’t the site admin’s fault and these spammers have been around for decades now. (Side note however, mootxico has willingly left of baby money torture on his boards and defended keeping it up but that’s a story for a different time)

Anyways this association fires up my OCD and gives me that sense of contamination and unsafeness. Like being here on 39 is just two clicks away from being somewhere that that material gets posted. I realize this is all retarded and my post will probably be deleted but I thought maybe your insights or kind words might be helpful.

Mikudayo (#971 - May 8, 2026, 15:56):
Do you guys actually use other chans? How do feel comfortable in an environment (Chan sites) where this is a prevalent issue? Is it just compartmentalization to deal with it?

Or do most of you only use 39chan and no others?
Even seeing Neru ties back into this negative association trigger now, :( (Neru—>Smith->39chan->Friends of 39chan->other poorly moderated sites with csem). This is basically OCD taking something I love and weaponizing it against me.

Anyways, any kind thoughts or insights would be really helpful. I love you guys, I’m just really goin through it right now. :lensorry:

Mikudayo (#972 - May 8, 2026, 16:02):
>>971
That's not 39chan or even Hioka's problem so I don't know why you're making it seem like it is.

Yes, that stuff does get spammed on Imageboards and Forums quite often but it's often not even done by real humans and instead bot farms, and on sites that aren't protected by captchas or other anti-spam methods. The Project DIVA forum for example doesn't get CSEM but it does get porn spam.

Wapchan and 39chan use Anubis which is sort of like Cloudflare. I've never heard of this Mootxico thing but I'd assume it doesn't have the same level of protection/moderation.

Mikudayo (#973 - May 8, 2026, 16:03):
>>972
Also places like 2channel and Futaba Channel which were the origin sites for many of the Fanloids and VIPPERLOIDs got that type of spam as well. It's unfortunately inevitable if you don't protect your site.

Mikudayo (#974 - May 8, 2026, 16:08):
39chan used to have a similar issue before the captcha was introduced. Like the other anon said though, it's not really anything 39chan or Hioka have done, I'm sure Hioka isn't even aware of any of the friends of 39chan boards honestly LOL

I don't really use other imageboards, but sometimes when I do roam into them I (luckily rarely) stumble into that sort of nasty shit.

I think the best thing you can do is maybe suggest a unique captcha to these imageboards so they also don't get raided/spammed by the bots? Since like the other anon said it's always done by spam bots.

Mikudayo (#975 - May 8, 2026, 16:11):
>>971
huh, is neurotically freaking out about loose associations to things that upset you an OCD thing? i had this exact issue like a year ago where i was like (online community i was in -> other community that slowly grew increasingly adjacent to it -> personal traumatising online stuff that happened kinda around that fandom) and went into a several month long freakout over it. just kinda assumed i was being stupid for no reason. i always used words like contaminate and unsafe too and everyone always just thought i was overreacting.

>>973
i dont think anon is dogging on the site, i think theyre just airing out some personal stuff in a neutral tone.

Mikudayo (#976 - May 8, 2026, 16:13):
>>971
What you're mentioning are bots. Because unfortunately, yes, we have gotten to a point where people are coding bots that spam CSEM on any website that allows you to make posts. This isn't even an Imageboard or Forum exclusive problem, even Twitter is dealing with stuff like this. I've seen some nasty shit spammed by bots under innocent meme tweets for example.

But either way, the sites on the "Friends of 39chan" section mostly don't have this issue because they're well moderated. 39chan, Hikari, Wap, Kissu and Holotower have their own ways of dealing with the spam and have been successful at it. Other imageboards, not so much.

Mikudayo (#977 - May 8, 2026, 16:25):
>>971
Neither 39min or Hioka are responsible for what gets posted on other sites. I don't want to make you even more paranoid but realistically any website without decent moderation is prone to illegal spam. The only reason it's harder to see on social media sites like Reddit, Facebook and Twitter is because they have a trillion AIs scanning your content.

Mikudayo (#978 - May 8, 2026, 16:26):
>>971
To answer your question tho I only use 39chan these days. I used to go on /jp/ but I left around the time Zaako dropped and the threads were unusable with all the dramafagging.

Mikudayo (#979 - May 8, 2026, 16:29):
>>975
Just wanted to say it’s very comforting to know I’m not the only one that suffers like this. Thanks man, not to sound mushy but wish I could send you a hug. I think this is what I needed to hear.

And yeah I’m not digging on 39 at all, as I said this place itself is very safe.

>>976
Yeah Xitter is somehow actually worse than image boards at this point. Probably because their mod staff was absolutely gutted. I won’t touch that place anymore aside from reading a linked tweet.

I think in case of Xitter it feels less contamination by association because I feel like the vast majority of people on there are completely unaware of that happening on there since ownership changed.

>>978
That’s what boat I’m atm

Mikudayo (#980 - May 8, 2026, 16:32):
>>977
Does 39chan use AI to scan for spam as well? Been using this site for ages and have never seen anything illegal other than threads about piracy and pocaloid lol.

Puzzle (#981 - May 8, 2026, 16:37):
>>980
We scan your content for malicious keywords or links but we don't use AI models for it. Just tons of scripting and regex. **We actually have an automod, in fact, but since our site rarely receives spam we don't have a single ban on our banlist done by the automod yet.**

If i'm not mistaken, 39chan originally launched in a very unmoderated state and without filters, CloudFlare or any type of firewalls, so it was prone to getting that type of spam. But right after the Canon interview various methods of preventing that stuff were implemented and nowadays the only spam we really get is from crossboarders who think they're funny on rare occasions. It's safe to use 39chan even if you've never used an imageboard before.

Puzzle (#982 - May 8, 2026, 16:43):
>>971
We're affiliated with Wapchan because it's a neat website and the owner is staff on 39chan. But I have no control over who Wapchan decides to associate with, that's up to the owner. And even then I doubt that Mootxico's staff allows that crap, it's spam, and it gets posted on multiple imageboard sites that lack the levels of moderation we have.

Typically I only affiliate with sites I know are safe to browse, and that might be relevant to the average 39chan poster. As an example, vtubers and Vocaloid sort of go hand in hand (Uiroid and #kzn exist are two examples) so we're affiliated with Holotower. The "websites we like" section is more like a "websites i'd like to partner with if i could" kind of thing.

Mikudayo (#983 - May 8, 2026, 16:49):
>>971
I only use 39chan, 4-ch (not 4chan) and Hikari
None of which get illegal spam

Mikudayo (#984 - May 8, 2026, 17:10):
>>982
Thanks for chiming in too and giving your perspective. Also thanks for not nuking my post even though it’s a ramble.

You guys have given me some peace, I appreciate all your responses, especially >>975
:mikuhappy:

Mikudayo (#985 - May 9, 2026, 02:48):
>>979
A bit unrelated but i hate how much of the internet is centralized on Twitter these days. It's almost as if you're missing out on everything by not having Twitter.
Want to keep track of new releases by your favorite producers? Go on Twitter. Want to keep track of any kind of Vocaloid news? Go on Twitter. Want to look at art? Go on Twitter, and if you're lucky enough the artist might also have a Pixiv or a Misskey.

Mikudayo (#987 - May 9, 2026, 03:32):
>>975
>is neurotically freaking out about loose associations to things that upset you an OCD thing?
mental contamination is a common trait in OCD, along with superstitious/magical thinking
i have it mildly, my OCD thoughts are also the kind where you have to triple-check the file you attached to your work email JUST IN CASE you accidentally somehow attached real-life gay porn even if you have no such thing on your computer **and POCD which, while scary at times, is actually relatively easy to deal with once you practice treating it**
>>971
>Do you guys actually use other chans?
had been using 4chan since 2011 or so but stopped using it in the past year after finally reaching my limit with incompetent moderation. i only use holotower and 39chan now
i've been RELATIVELY lucky in that i've never (at least that i'm aware of) seen CSAM online, or if i have then i don't remember it/i looked away quickly enough for it to not scar me

Mikudayo (#988 - May 9, 2026, 03:35):
>>987
I mean Holotower and 39chan have their own different methods for fighting against CSEM spam so you'll never come across it on those sites. Other imageboards are a different story though...

Mikudayo (#989 - May 9, 2026, 03:42):
I only use 39chan nowadays. I used to frequent the Vocaloid generals on /jp/ but they've been becoming progressively lower quality and Tetofag **(the guy who says "shitgu" and posts legit CSEM, not drawn porn but the real deal)** was the last straw for me.

Mikudayo (#991 - May 9, 2026, 04:50):
>>989
This.
Tetofag ran a bunch of the people there off the site.

Mikudayo (#992 - May 9, 2026, 05:39):
I never saw anything like that or human gore posting or animal abuse posting here or anything along those lines. Not even seen ordinary live porn here either. The board is pretty tame. If anything gets past current antibot system I have some possible solutions.

figamin (#993 - May 9, 2026, 12:23):
>>970
In the early days of wapchan, I was looser with who I allowed as site friends, and a while ago I removed all of the NSFW ones, but the admin of mootxico asked me to put their link back and when I checked the site last it did not have any of this sort of spam (I havent checked that site in years honestly and just wanted to be diplomatic). In the future it would be more helpful to me if you just emailed me directly about these sort of issues rather than put it on blast

Mikudayo (#994 - May 9, 2026, 13:57):
>>993
Not OP but i don't think it's your fault at all man.

Sadly this is the fate of most altchans, especially those that don't prioritize their moderation.

Like everyone has said in this thread, pretty much every chan site gets hit with that type of spam unless you have filters and other ways of preventing it. I'm just glad that both wapchan and 39chan at least do something about it.

Mikudayo (#995 - May 9, 2026, 22:15):
>>971
>>975
this is so real, i dont have ocd but i'm schizo & ruined one of my fav musicians for myself because i was obsessed w/ them during my manic episode lol

Mikudayo (#996 - May 10, 2026, 04:16):
>>993
You're fine. Like that other anon said i appreciate that you found a way to stop the spam on both of the sites you manage.

>>995
How obsessed are we talking?

Mikudayo (#997 - May 10, 2026, 09:43):
>>995
>schizo
>mania
You mean schizoaffective then? Increased dopaminergic activity causes an increased sense of importance since it is thought dopamine is what makes us pay attention to what matters so too much signaling and it can cause a sense of enthusiasm (though this likely is a downstream effect I assume) or drawing connections where there is none or very little which leads to delusions because it feels so important.

Mikudayo (#998 - May 10, 2026, 11:39):
>>996
parasocial (´・ω・`;;)
>>997
you're probably right, my diagnosis has changed a few times lol

Mikudayo (#1001 - May 10, 2026, 14:14):
unfortunately, pretty much everywhere gets spammed with this shit
I know the folks over at denpachan gave up on being anonymous access over it and became a forum instead, and they didn't even have image posting. It was just constant and hard to deal with when you don't have a large staff.

I go on sites with a fairly large (and international, so they're on at all hours of the day) moderation staff that still have the problem, it just gets deleted within five minutes (often more like five seconds) instead of staying up for five hours while the admins are asleep/at work.

Mikudayo (#1002 - May 10, 2026, 14:17):
>>1001
I've seen it on forums as well actually but it's slightly less common because forums require accounts and usually have tons of captchas everywhere

Mikudayo (#1003 - May 10, 2026, 14:23):
>>1001
39chan and all of the sites in the friends section don't have this problem so its not impossible, but it is a pain in the ass to deal with indeed, especially if your site is small and you have little to no coding knowledge

Mikudayo (#1005 - May 10, 2026, 14:28):
>>1002
I've never seen that type of spam on forums personally, though i've heard that it does happen. But what I have seen are a lot of Chinese bots on the dying platform that is ProBoards and those "Free adult hookup" bots.

I also know that the same bots that post those awful, graphic images post the same shit on piracy related chatrooms on sites like Chatango.

Mikudayo (#1006 - May 10, 2026, 16:04):
>>1002
Bots actually can make accounts by automation easily enough if the signup form has labelled fields but these bots more often are just spamming advertisements and usually only illegal stuff is trying to sell drugs or claim they are to con people.

Mikudayo (#1007 - May 11, 2026, 16:56):

Crazy that I've used imageboards for decades and this is my first time hearing about this Mikuchan. Even crazier that they were partnered with Vocaloidism.

Mikudayo (#498 - Sep 5, 2025, 22:24):
it seems that by 2014 they switched to something more akin to what we have here today on 39chan, with a main board for vocaloid discussion like >>>/leek/, a mmd board like >>>/mmd/ and some other misc stuff

Mikudayo (#499 - Sep 6, 2025, 01:15):
>>493
And one of the admins was the former owner of VocaDB

Mikudayo (#500 - Sep 6, 2025, 01:46):
God, what a time capsule of a website. And they were unashamedly horny too, just like the leekers. From the looks of it though Mikuchan was short lived (2009-2014) and the boards were mostly categorized versions of /c/ as someone mentioned earlier, serving as more of an '''image''' board than an actual discussion site. Still, there is some discussion on /vocaloid/ and it's a beautiful sight.

Here you go

>>502
Seems unrelated or run by a fan

Mikudayo (#508 - Sep 9, 2025, 13:20):
Found this on the jaypee archives. There was apparently another short lived Mikuchan running on Tinyboard called "Mikuchan.biz".

The CSS might be what they call "lost media".

Mikudayo (#511 - Sep 10, 2025, 03:17):
Interesting that the idea of a Vocaloid imageboard isn't new. But I wonder what 39chan did right for it to get big in such a short amount of time and even get 2ch's blessing. From what I understand it wasn't even promoted much.

Mikudayo (#512 - Sep 10, 2025, 03:22):
>>511
Unironically might've been luck due to it serving as a refugee site during the 4chan hack. That, proper moderation and events such as the Q&A's and listening parties. Not sure what you mean by 2ch's blessing though. Are you saying the VIPPERS use this?.

Mikudayo (#513 - Sep 10, 2025, 15:08):
This board was fairly well known as far as alternate imageboards go at the time, especially as the default continues to be for them to die after six months to a year. I'm a little amused that it's being brought up here now as some sort of obscurity.

There was also an IRC channel and a LastFM group at the time, deleted/gone at this point.

>>511
>But I wonder what 39chan did right for it to get big in such a short amount of time and even get 2ch's blessing.
Where's the evidence for this? This site definitely doesn't have any mentions on 5ch and cursory X searches with lang:ja don't show anything. BBSes are larger a dead phenomenon in Japan, as they are largely abroad.

This site has a decently healthy base but I wouldn't call it "big", there are definitely other imageboards satisfying that class.

moth (#516 - Sep 10, 2025, 15:34):
>>513
The average anon here is in their early 20's with only a minority being in their 30's so this is not surprising to me. It doesn't help that Mikuchan (not this site) is rarely brought up when discussing altchans

39chan also has no ties to 5ch/2ch, not sure what anon is talking about

Mikudayo (#517 - Sep 10, 2025, 15:43):
>>516
Im 30 but like fp i never heard of it either
kind of sucks that it shut down

Mikudayo (#520 - Sep 10, 2025, 15:54):
>>516
It's not really an age thing, really my own amusement bouncing here after I replied to another thread gassing the cultural relevance of 39chan. I like cottage image boards but very have historically overcome the inertia to have any longevity or relevance. Mikuchan wasn't really all that special because while it did have some longevity, it was a trickle of posts at the end. The IRC didn't list beyond like 2015.

Mikudayo (#764 - Feb 8, 2026, 16:24):
Can any reverse image search gods identify the original image used in their banner? I wasn't able to get anything from Google, Saucenao or Yandex

Mikudayo (#765 - Feb 8, 2026, 16:33):
>>764
Drawn by Takeshita Kenji. The original image on Pixiv no longer exists but it was probably uploaded around 2008 if the Danbooru date is anything to go by.
https://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/311240?q=takeshita_kenjirou+vocaloid
There is also the vector version by Xanime4lifeX made in 2009, which is the version that was likely used for the /miku/ banner.
https://konachan.com/post/show/49231
The image has a link to the author's Minitokyo account so i looked it up and it still exists. It very likely is this link, although it doesn't load for me so I cannot confirm: http://gallery.minitokyo.net/view/387939

73 - How would 39chan's growth impact the site?

We had around 10 unique IPs around September when the site launched. We're nearing the end of October and now we have 117 unique IPs. I think it's pretty clear that the site is growing. It's also clear that a lot of anons here have never touched an imageboard in their lives before 39ch by the way some posts read more like forum posts than imageboard posts. Despite all that I feel like the site currently has its own culture of sorts: we have people making OC on /o/ and /leek/, we have frequent recognizable posters like menheranon, etc.

Is it schizo to worry that if the site becomes bigger a lot of that would be lost like it happened to 4chan and 8chan?.

Mikudayo (#76 - Oct 24, 2024, 07:18):
>>73
Tbh I prefer the forumposters over the average IB retard any day. The nice culture would 100% be lost if 39ch were as big as 4chan, posts would probably be mostly bickering/bait over stupid shit. I hate big imageboards tho so I'm probably too biased lol

Mikudayo (#77 - Oct 24, 2024, 07:47):
>>76
I highly doubt 39chan would ever get as big as 4chan considering it's a Vocaloid focused site. At best it'd grow to the same extent as Uboachan.

Mikudayo (#80 - Oct 24, 2024, 18:03):
>>73
>>76
>>77
39ch was just posted on 4/jp/ so I guess we can expect a new influx of users. Whether that's a good or a bad thing, we'll see. I like the slowness of 39ch and the fact that the threads are mostly on-topic. I also feel like the ban on retarded /pol/ shit and reddit cancer will filter out unwanted people.

Mikudayo (#81 - Oct 24, 2024, 22:34):
>>80
omg I just went to look at that thread and it's actually pretty funny

"fuck off retard stop bringing people from this site"
"Stop having schizo fights"

the bickering is gold, I love watching 4channers argue idk why

Mikudayo (#82 - Oct 24, 2024, 22:42):
i honestly dont think jaypees coming to the site would be a problem since 39chan itself has /jp/ roots. as long as they don't shit up the boards with their /pol/-rotten slang and culture and accept ours we should be good. i do use a bit of 4chan myself. have for years. but it gets tiring seeing newfags from there spreading their anti-bobba bullshit to other comfier imageboards.

Mikudayo (#83 - Oct 24, 2024, 22:45):
>>82
>anti-bobba
oh right, wordfilter is on. i meant "12 year old who just discovered 4chan and thinks its entire culture is spamming the n word and hating on fags" type shit.

>inb4 no fun allowed
fuck off you're the cancer killing imageboards

Mikudayo (#117 - Nov 15, 2024, 12:07):
I love how this site currently lacks both the VocaTwitter fags who doxx and falsely accuse people over shipping RinLen and the toxic IB users and /pol/ migrants who think everyloid who isn't Miku is a wholoid (in what world is Luka a wholoid?), I'm praying that doesn't change.

Mikudayo (#124 - Nov 15, 2024, 16:49):
>>117
That's cause 39chan started as a vocaboomer refugee site. Nu-vocaloid fans and pjsk kiddies plague most Vocaloid related circles and the old fandom culture is too much for them (despite the fact that they continue to engage with it instead of ignoring it because their brains are hardwired to do that).

Mikudayo (#125 - Nov 15, 2024, 17:21):
having forum style posters is nice
altchans tend to pull from the same pool of active posters across all of them (like me lmao) or get recent refugees from 4chan, so having new blood not from imageboard culture is a goid thing
as long as they aren't here to stir trouble, and it doesn't seem like it, it's great

>>117
eternally glad I've dodged the crazy Twitter crowd
been obsessed with rinxlen for like 15+ years and I refuse to stop :rinthumbs:

Mikudayo (#126 - Nov 15, 2024, 17:42):
>>125
>so having new blood not from imageboard culture is a goid thing
this. forum style posting without the toxicity of xitter and modern imageboard culture is comfy.
>been obsessed with rinxlen for like 15+ years and I refuse to stop
is it me or a huge chunk of this site is female fujos?

Mikudayo (#127 - Nov 15, 2024, 19:59):
>>126
>is it me or a huge chunk of this site is female fujos?
it's a natural part of these things, fujoshi chicks have always been a presence in the vocaloid fandom

but I'm a guy lol, I'm just obsessed with twins, and I decided that since they're immaculate singing beings that even if I cared that they were related, it didn't matter in this case
<tinyboard ocr image 0></tinyboard>

Mikudayo (#150 - Dec 16, 2024, 23:10):
>>76
the vocaloid threads on 4chan /jp/ have become pretty unbearable because of this recently so i have to agree. the hornyposting is funny at first but quickly becomes annoying. i only still go there for the music people share.

Mikudayo (#171 - Jan 24, 2025, 01:00):
Almost 500 UIPs now :lukasparkle:

Mikudayo (#172 - Jan 25, 2025, 18:57):
Sometimes i kinda fear 39ch will be found and used by the same people rule 7 is supposed to protect us from

Mikudayo (#173 - Jan 25, 2025, 19:36):
>>172
Won’t they just get banned? I don’t think they can do much of anything to us here tbh

Mikudayo (#174 - Jan 25, 2025, 19:38):
>>173
Correct, dumbasses get the hammer

Mikudayo (#186 - Feb 15, 2025, 10:00):
Why is this website suddenly faster than it was a month ago?

Mikudayo (#189 - Feb 19, 2025, 16:19):
These past few weeks the /jp/ threads have been filled with newfrends and dramafags (probably as a result of Zako/11), i'm glad this site doesn't have the same issue

Mikudayo (#207 - Mar 26, 2025, 02:20):
i've been thinking about this for a while. if the toriko thing is succesful i feel like people will find 39ch. bit of a double edged sword methinks.

Mikudayo (#208 - Mar 26, 2025, 09:36):
>>207
We could just not mention 39chan after revealing Toriko(..right?)

Mikudayo (#218 - Apr 15, 2025, 12:17):
Well, if /jp/ stays dead you can expect some refugees. よろしくお願いします

Mikudayo (#219 - Apr 15, 2025, 12:23):
>>218
At this point i think we should encourage them to stay, especially since this might actually be the end of 4chan. 39ch isn't moderated by the same people as 4/jp/ so the quality of the posts going down should not be an issue and there are rules against a lot of the spammy shit nu-/jp/ gets. I don't think we'd be getting people like the "shitgu" spammer in here.

moth (#220 - Apr 15, 2025, 12:47):
I've thought of making a /jp/ board before. But keep in mind that this is a Vocaloid fansite before anything else. One fear I have is that the /jp/ board would become more active than any of the Vocaloid boards. I also don't know how users of this site would feel about it.

Currently it seems like >>>/g/ is serving that purpose though so let's see how things go.

Mikudayo (#234 - Apr 15, 2025, 19:59):
Has anyone noticed that we've been getting around 8-12 users recently? It was 5 at best before the 4chan hack. I wonder if this is related.

moth (#235 - Apr 15, 2025, 20:08):
>>234
Pretty sure it's a mix of various things that happened within the week. The raid from a couple days ago increased activity on our site (somehow we were able to benefit from that), 4chan being down helped even more because a lot of the newfriends are /jp/ refugees. And to add to that 39chan has been linked on various altchans like Kissu and Wap which have been receiving a lot of attention recently as a result of 4chan being down.

12 is not a crazy high number like the 50's Wapchan has been getting but it's pretty cool. I expect activity to sort of go back to what it was a few days ago by the time 4chan returns but it's nice to see new faces here. Hope some of you stick around.

Mikudayo (#236 - Apr 15, 2025, 21:56):
>>235
I know I'm happy to stay. I was only on /jp/ for the Vocaloid thread and it was circling the drain even before the site exploded. This place seems a lot more genuine and accommodating to more subjects than just the latest popular songs and Twitter drama.

Mikudayo (#237 - Apr 15, 2025, 22:04):
>>236
I blame the teto/shitgu spammers for the decline in quality

Mikudayo (#238 - Apr 15, 2025, 22:06):
>>237
And by Teto spammer I don't mean the guy who would post about 20 Teto songs per thread. I miss that guy actually. Hope he's okay and that he eventually finds this place.

Mikudayo (#287 - Apr 22, 2025, 21:48):
>19 users lurking in the last 10 minutes
First time i see this many people online. There were 117 unique IPs when this post was created and now there's 947. 39 is growing...

Mikudayo (#295 - Apr 23, 2025, 20:56):
>>292
/fic/ was always dead, it was removed for a reason. No one used it for posting fanfics anyway.

Mikudayo (#325 - May 5, 2025, 02:16):
This thread makes me happy. Just 117 UIPs when it was made and now we're at 1030 and now this site makes OC almost all the time.

Mikudayo (#378 - Jun 3, 2025, 12:12):
So with the Q&A bringing new people what should we expect? I know the average Vocaloid fan who has never been on an imageboard before will probably come here and find something to complain about seeing as how 39ch lets you say whatever's on your mind without getting B& for it (unless it's political or ragebait). Not to mention a lot of people here are 20-something year old fujos who crawled out of AO3 and those kinds of places and vocatwt despises those kinds of people.

Mikudayo (#379 - Jun 3, 2025, 12:18):
>>378
The edginess of the site might also put some people off maybe. For example we have a joke UTAUloid born on 9/11, the "Shota shota island" song is constatly memed on here, and like 4chan and most imageboards "fag" and "retard" are used a lot (mostly in a neutral way rather than an offensive one).

Dunno, I'm just saying that vocatwt will not be happy when they find this place lol.

Mikudayo (#380 - Jun 3, 2025, 12:25):
>>378
>>379
Every "chan" imageboard ever has those things you mentioned, even Uboachan which is probably the tamest imageboard i can think of. Canon was a 2channel user so she is likely used to this stuff, but people coming from other sites should know what they're getting into. Beside it's not like we're this creepy dangerous place that you should never visit, we're mostly apathetic to most community drama. The zaako thing was briefly discussed there and then the next day no one cared.

Mikudayo (#381 - Jun 3, 2025, 13:45):
>>378
Meh, those people aren't gonna stick around anyway

Mikudayo (#382 - Jun 3, 2025, 13:47):
>>380
This btw. 2channel isn't too different in that regard and a lot of people forget that most of the popular UTAUloids and Fanloids come from there.

Mikudayo (#383 - Jun 3, 2025, 18:37):
>>378
We've always accepted people regardless of where they come as long as they adapt to the site's culture

Mikudayo (#392 - Jun 5, 2025, 02:26):
>>378
>>379
Anyone who complains about 39chan is the type of person who thinks that every imageboard = 4chan. We might be the "class clown" of Vocaloid forums and do slightly edgy shit sometimes but at the end of the day we're just that - a Vocaloid forum, and drama-free at that.

Mikudayo (#393 - Jun 5, 2025, 14:47):
>>392
Agree with this anon

Mikudayo (#394 - Jun 5, 2025, 14:59):
>>392
The average social media normie cant tell other imageboards apart from 4chan even if they look different or have a different culture lmao.
>>383
I personally don't care, i like to see this site grow and have its own history with all the utauloids we've made and now the interviews. If people can't respect board culture they get banned.

Mikudayo (#447 - Aug 4, 2025, 00:04):
Today we hit the record for least active day on 39ch with only 9 posts.

Mikudayo (#448 - Aug 4, 2025, 01:20):
>>447
its over
**kidding, we'll be fine**

Mikudayo (#449 - Aug 4, 2025, 10:58):
>>447
The ideal number of posts per day is 39.

Mikudayo (#450 - Aug 4, 2025, 11:26):
>>447
all me on my rotating ips btw

Mikudayo (#451 - Aug 4, 2025, 12:19):
>>450
Wrong, it was me

Mikudayo (#452 - Aug 4, 2025, 12:30):
>>451
Wait don’t forget me :rinthumbs:

Mikudayo (#453 - Aug 4, 2025, 15:52):
>>452
Actually it was me.

Mikudayo (#505 - Sep 9, 2025, 00:02):
This thread is pretty fascinating to me considering just a few months after it was made, 39chan would become a pretty important site for Vocaloid culture. About 100+ posts this week, original fanloids and "leekaloids", producers born out of this imageboard like shieru-P and Meaty-P, "famous" lurkers like Majin and Takoyaki Donuts, a Q&A with the creator of one of the most beloved Vipperloid and an upcoming interview with the creator of a fanloid that's been featured in the fucking PS3 game.

Seriously, 39chan is more culturally relevant in the Vocaloid community than a lot of people think.

Mikudayo (#506 - Sep 9, 2025, 00:08):
>>505
Regardless though, I feel like 39chan has its own niche appeal. It's not your typical forum like Vocaverse, it's an imageboard, like 4chan or the Japanese 2chan (the latter being where a lot of Vipperloids/Fanloids originated from). And despite there being rules to prevent the toxicity associated with those types of sites it's still a bit more unfiltered than most Vocaloid discussion sites. So I wonder if that contributes to it. Maybe I'm overthinking it. I just like that 39chan is this niche yet popular thing in the Vocasphere.

Mikudayo (#507 - Sep 9, 2025, 00:12):
>>506
The vipperloids and fanloids came from 2channel not 2chan/Futaba. As far as I know only Mikudayo came from Futaba.

Mikudayo (#514 - Sep 10, 2025, 15:23):
>>505
Culturally relevant and important to who? Vocaloid fans that are also imageboard fans? I don't mean to diminish the accomplishments, because I think it's cool to see some outreach being done and a decent niche developing, but it's really limited to just that: a niche.

Mikudayo (#515 - Sep 10, 2025, 15:29):
>>514
NTA but in general this site has accomplished more than a lot of the vocaloid forums i used when i was a kid. I dont recall VO having QnAs with anyone major or UTAUs/fanloids created not by one person but multiple people in the community

it is indeed niche though and i hope it remains that way

Mikudayo (#518 - Sep 10, 2025, 15:46):
>>515
>VO
They had one but we don't talk about it

Mikudayo (#519 - Sep 10, 2025, 15:48):

Mikudayo (#521 - Sep 10, 2025, 15:56):
>>519
Stella wasn't made by VO

Mikudayo (#522 - Sep 11, 2025, 15:13):
>>521
Technically there's not a lot that's "by VO", just stuff that was made by VO users. If you include that then you have at least most of the Engloids and Mili iirc

Mikudayo (#523 - Sep 11, 2025, 16:14):
>>522
So the UTAUs in TCC have a chance of becoming realloids, nice

Mikudayo (#524 - Sep 11, 2025, 21:41):
>>523
Some anon here said they were close with some of the Vocatone members so you never know

Mikudayo (#619 - Oct 25, 2025, 15:24):
Why has /leek/ been so inactive this week?

Mikudayo (#620 - Oct 25, 2025, 15:26):
>>619
>this question again
/leek/ is as active as the general Vocaloid community itself is. If nothing happens there, nothing happens on /leek/. We also don't have as many shitposters as /jp/ to keep the board active (not that you'd want them here either though).

Mikudayo (#622 - Oct 28, 2025, 23:37):
Sucks to see /leek/ and 39chan as a whole this inactive. But you can't really blame the site when nothing fugging happens in the fandom.

Mikudayo (#623 - Oct 28, 2025, 23:40):
>>622
Big things will happen

Mikudayo (#624 - Oct 28, 2025, 23:53):

>big thing actually happened

Mikudayo (#628 - Oct 30, 2025, 04:36):
>>623
anon ily p please predict the future more for us

Mikudayo (#658 - Nov 28, 2025, 00:28):
Why are we suddenly getting more posts than ever before?

Mikudayo (#659 - Nov 28, 2025, 00:33):
>>658
Osana being finished, Hioka retweeting the TCC page (influx of new users ig), Rei getting a V6 and Teto SV2 all in the same week.

Mikudayo (#660 - Nov 28, 2025, 01:16):
>>659
This and the fact that its November so less people are busy

Mikudayo (#700 - Jan 15, 2026, 02:30):
So now we have around 13 users online for most of the day with around 100+ posts per day. Did someone promote 39chan somewhere? It's the first time I'm seeing this site with this level of activity. What's crazier is nothing interesting has happened within the Vocaloid community itself outside of some shitflinging that was only briefly discussed here. Hmm...

Mikudayo (#701 - Jan 15, 2026, 03:06):
>>700
probably caused by the kafu leak

Mikudayo (#939 - Apr 23, 2026, 02:06):
>>700
things have been slowing down recently but yeah im surprised 39chan was so active for such a long period. 100+ PPD isn't very common for altchans, let alone themed ones like 39.

Mikudayo (#940 - Apr 23, 2026, 02:10):
>>76
Old post is old but i completely agree and im glad that this site is mostly comprised of forumbros and the kind of jaypees that are respectable and not here to start shit :rinthumbs:

Mikudayo (#941 - Apr 23, 2026, 15:47):
>>939
>isn't very common
100 PPD isn't a very high bar. I can think of about half a dozen without actually looking at stats, and certainly there are more than that. Hell, I know of private imageboards with forced anon clearing about 75-100 PPD.

Mikudayo (#942 - Apr 23, 2026, 15:49):
>>941
That's true but the other ones i use (without counting 39chan) barely make it to 20 anymore.

Mikudayo (#943 - Apr 23, 2026, 15:57):
>>942
Yeah, longevity matters a lot more for PPD. Anyone can boot up something with Wakaba et al and launch an altchan, but few last after they inevitably slow to a crawl and a disinterested admin shuts it down.

39chan has a better shot, probably (I check here more than most other sites), but it's not like Mikuchan didn't have healthy activity at one point too.

Mikudayo (#944 - Apr 23, 2026, 16:03):
>>943
NTA but 39chan has already shut down once. After that it was picked up by a team and brought back. Considering figamin is a member and he has owned Wapchan for about 4 years now I have faith that it'll remain up for at least a decade now. T39-era 39chan has been relatively stable compared to the period before that.

Mikudayo (#1026 - May 26, 2026, 02:18):
As weird as it sounds i kinda miss a lot of the /leek/ namefags before the site became popular. I wonder what menheranon and kaitoanon are up to these days.

Mikudayo (#1027 - May 26, 2026, 02:20):
>>943
>Wakaba
Honestly not the greatest idea to use that in >current year
Jschan, Vichan and (maybe) Sriracha are better and more up to date.

Mikudayo (#1028 - May 26, 2026, 02:52):

Psychopath behavior. Normal people use the frames.

Mikudayo (#707 - Jan 17, 2026, 20:00):
Yeah i just scroll down through /all/ to catch up on discussions, I don't have the frames up either
I only have /c/ hidden since I can't really contribute to those threads, i dont save a lot of vocaloid art

I do, but I dont think it really works for me.
I still have to reply using the form on the top of the page and it doesnt do things like expand images on mouseover
Don't know if i installed it wrong, I think I just got it from 39chan itself. I use XT on 4chan and its fine over there

Mikudayo (#901 - Apr 3, 2026, 10:04):
>>899
i havent used XT in a while but image hover is an option here

Mikudayo (#902 - Apr 3, 2026, 16:30):
I gave it a shot, but the one feature that I actually want - to sort the board/catalog/all by last reply (ignoring sage/bump limit/lock) - either isn't there or doesn't work for me. Unlike 4chan, the default script for 39chan is basically fine, and I don't really use other altchans at the moment, so I think I'll still with 4chan X.

872 - Moderation

How good is the moderation on here? I'm usually scared of going on imageboards because of pedo spammers but since Neru's creator felt comfortable hosting an AMA here maybe it's safe and well moderated? I know some of the other sites in the webring are not as well modded so I'm super cautious about any imageboard that isn't 4chan. Even lainchan hasn't been holding up as well as they used to.

>I'm usually scared of going on imageboards because of pedo spammers
I think this site is extremely moderated, but whether that's a good or a bad thing is up for you to decide. Back when 39chan launched there were CSEM bots spamming boards like /g/, but around the time Hioka hosted his first Q&A the staff implemented the oekaki captcha along with other anti spam measures and we haven't seen a single CSEM bot since. Most spam we get now is crossboarders being annoying faggots who can't adapt to the site's culture but usually they get banned within minutes.

Mikudayo (#874 - Apr 2, 2026, 16:49):
We dont get any illegal spam

Mikudayo (#875 - Apr 2, 2026, 16:51):
>>873
like this anon said, we haven't had to deal with that type of spam in years. as for how good the moderation is, i personally havent had any issues. but again, you need to be actually braindead to get banned of this site.

SF-A2 Miki (#876 - Apr 2, 2026, 17:02):
Like everyone else said already we don't get that spam anymore so if you fear you might stumble upon CSEM while browsing then you don't have to worry. It hasn't been an issue on 39chan since the captcha was implemented. That's not to say we don't get spam though, we sometimes get schizos from other boards disturbing the comfy nature of the site but we typically ban them within minutes or adapt our filters to automatically detect them every time they post. Raids might happen as this is an imageboard and we unfortunately live in the 2020's but we've got a shit ton of filters put in place to prevent them on top a bigger mod team, Anubis and the oekaki captcha which expires after a couple minutes so they never last too long plus usually come from a single IP/VPN service.

That being said though, I do suggest that you lurk before posting. You don't necessarily need to know about previous events, leekaloids and all that stuff, but do keep shit chill, on-topic and non-political, otherwise it's hammer time.

(quick edit: moved this thread to >>>/meta/)

Mikudayo (#877 - Apr 2, 2026, 17:08):
>How good is the moderation on here?
Active and good. /thread

Mikudayo (#878 - Apr 2, 2026, 17:17):
Thanks for all the responses, yeah illegal material was my main concern. When I was looking into vocaloid history and looked into 2channel and futaba a while back, they definitely weren't doing enough to prevent it there, and I wont' be going back there again because of it.

>>876
That's for popping in too. Comforting to know mods are very active here.

You guys seems chill so I might come by more often.

Mikudayo (#879 - Apr 2, 2026, 17:28):
>>878
39chan doesn't exactly play a big role in Vocaloid history like 2channel did, or at least not yet. We have our own equivalent to the VIPPERloids but they never took off outside of the site **(though more people seem to be finding out about Toriko lately)**. And yes sometimes we have those AMAs but they're rare and almost always involve Japanese creators because the staff seem to be afraid of the Western community.

Mikudayo (#880 - Apr 2, 2026, 17:32):
>staff seem to be afraid of the Western community
Honestly i can't really blame them, the western fandom IS scary. And the average western VocaP (assuming they're aware of this site in the first place) probably thinks of us as some 4chan clone for vocaloid fandom rejects.

Mikudayo (#881 - Apr 2, 2026, 17:34):
>>880
I wouldn't see it that way tbh. A couple western producers do know about 39chan's existence and even post here, and some producers (Meaty-P) kinda owe their career to /leek/. You'd have to be really ignorant to think of 39chan as "4chan for vocaloid rejects".

Mikudayo (#882 - Apr 2, 2026, 17:38):
>>879
>staff seem to be afraid of the Western community
This site actively promotes itself on Twitter to Vocaloid fans, I don't think it's afraid of anything.

Mikudayo (#883 - Apr 2, 2026, 17:44):
Considering this site's userbase overlaps with Utaforum, Vocaverse and for better or for worse, **the subreddit**, it does seem like part of the WVF respects 39chan or at least acknowledges it as its own thing. Which is nice.

I still wouldn't hold my breath for western producer interviews though.

>>882
SNS promotion can be risky considering the types of people you can attract but it seems to have worked out for both 39chan and Wapchan (not owned by Puzzle but still owned by one of the admins here)

Mikudayo (#885 - Apr 2, 2026, 17:46):
I suggest changing your browser settings to turn off disk cache. I only use ram cache if any but often not that either. Also turn off page thumbnails sometimes is a good idea but likely is not needed if your browser properly deletes it later or only stores your favorites. I once found a folder containing thousands of page thumbnail images from websites I go to because in the past some old version of Firefox on macOS was permanently storing these. Helps reduce possibility of having something illegal stored on your computer without you knowing. I also suggest disabling link prefetch so your browser does not make calls to potentially illegal or malicious links without you even clicking them. Also set download location to always ask, this prevents automated downloads which is good to avoid malicious auto downloading of malware and whatnot. This is just the basics of least you can do for anyone browsing the internet.

Mikudayo (#886 - Apr 2, 2026, 17:48):
>>883
It helps that the SNS pages aren’t huge in terms of post frequency or traffic. If someone with a large follower count prompted a surge of traffic it could be potentially dangerous.

Mikudayo (#887 - Apr 2, 2026, 17:53):
>>886
The twitter intern sometimes reposts stuff made here and then it gets reposted by people who have never used the site, but the bluesky one is mostly quiet and only posts when there's a major update on the site itself (guessing they're run by two different people?)

Mikudayo (#889 - Apr 2, 2026, 18:00):
>>887
Most people who repost those memes and stuff will probably never visit the site anyway.

Mikudayo (#890 - Apr 2, 2026, 18:01):
>>883
Wait how do you know it overlaps with those sites

Mikudayo (#891 - Apr 2, 2026, 18:07):
>>890
because people have admitted to using those forums lol

Mikudayo (#892 - Apr 2, 2026, 19:04):
>>879
I prefer it that way. Someone like Hioka or Canon is much more relevant to Vocaloid culture than a WVF producer.

Mikudayo (#893 - Apr 2, 2026, 19:15):
>>885
>This is just the basics of least you can do for anyone browsing the internet.
I have downloads set to always ask, and the cache is set to clear on exit, but I'm not gonna fuck around in about:config (Firefox).
:yukarietto:

Mikudayo (#894 - Apr 2, 2026, 19:26):
>>892
You sound like the Japanese fans that pretend a western fandom doesn't exist at all when it's just an insular perspective. There are arguably western producers active right now far more influential than Hioka ever was.

Mikudayo (#895 - Apr 2, 2026, 19:27):
>>872
No complaints on my part, and I've never seen anyone post CSAM. Even so, if someone posts it, its likely a bot hosted in bumfuck Russia rather than an actual user. They target imageboards all the time.
The only bans I've seen here have been deserved but that's only the public ones, idk about private ones.

Mikudayo (#896 - Apr 2, 2026, 19:31):
I'll add this though. I've had friends be warned before for posting political content/derailing threads. Warnings are like temporary bans that can last between 5 minutes to an hour.

Mikudayo (#897 - Apr 2, 2026, 19:39):
>>893
Clearing on exist is probably okay enough but ideally I'd turn off disk cache or reduce the cache size to 0 in size. I turn it off entirely because sometimes bad caches make sites load wrong images and because when it goes to disk it reduces disk writes and I don't really see much improvement in page loading speed with cache on. Firefox config isn't that scary to mess with. I've done all sorts of modifications and you can reverse them all if you remember what ones you modified.

Mikudayo (#863 - Mar 28, 2026, 04:17):
>>859
Mikuchan.org used to have international boards. One was Japanese, and I think they had a Spanish one too.

And well, they failed. I don't think /negi/ will attract much people tbh. But it is cool as a hidden board.

Mikudayo (#864 - Mar 28, 2026, 07:58):
>>859
Building a Japanese board won't form a Japanese userbase. That's before you even confront that most Japanese fans are dismissive of overseas fandom or actively deride it.

Mikudayo (#865 - Mar 28, 2026, 13:52):
>>863
>>864
Maybe /negi/ would have more activity if its scope was broadened. Instead of just Japanese, it could allow all languages, and could have flags like /int/; a cultural exchange board but for Vocaloid specifically. That way its activity would not be entirely dependent on its Japanese userbase; we probably have multilingual posters on /leek/ already. But it could invite a lot really dumb nationalism, which could spread to the rest of the site, and moderating it would be headache.

Mikudayo (#866 - Mar 28, 2026, 14:00):
>>865
I'd say keep the site in English. Only a small amount of Japanese users post on the site and when they do they type in English (see >>>/j/322). Same applies to the other non-Japanese posters.

A bit more primitive looking but overall not much different from what it is today. It was also smaller and there were less newfags bringing in nu-4chan lingo.

Mikudayo (#431 - Jul 12, 2025, 11:00):
/g/ was also cafe for a bit which was cool

Mikudayo (#436 - Jul 12, 2025, 22:32):

Mikudayo (#437 - Jul 12, 2025, 22:32):
>>436
utaite got moved to its own separate thread on >>>/j/ cause no one posted there.

Mikudayo (#472 - Aug 12, 2025, 04:26):
Not too different. Though it has gotten way more circlejerky since the Leekaloids.

Mikudayo (#474 - Aug 12, 2025, 04:32):
>>472
I wouldn't call it circlejerky, the whole Leeka thing is part of the site's culture, it thrives on OC.

Mikudayo (#475 - Aug 12, 2025, 04:35):
>>472
So was 2channel with their Vipperloids back then? I don't see the issue with that
Like >>474 said it's good that we have plenty of original content, that's what Vocaloid is about in the first place

I gotta say, at that time I'd like to meet /jp/
See, I invented /jp/, it wasn't any /jp/s
And now I look and look around and there's so many /jp/s

Mikudayo (#563 - Oct 4, 2025, 18:56):
>>562
Sometimes I wonder where a lot of the people who left are now. The mods are clearly letting it rot. I know a couple of them stayed while a majority went to Kissu, and the people from the Vocaloid generals either came here or went to 8/jp/ (which has been dead ever since the site came back up after the 4chan hack so I assume a large chunk have moved here now).

Mikudayo (#564 - Oct 4, 2025, 19:00):
>>563
The people from the /jp/ Vocaloid threads are definitely here. The good posters at least, because those threads are still the same /v/ tier shitposting and producer-bashing they were before.

Overall though i dont think 39chan has changed much other than it has become more active (especially on fridays for some reason)

>>474
Yeah i agree with the leekas being site culture.

Mikudayo (#565 - Oct 4, 2025, 19:01):
>>564
It's usually on Saturdays and Sundays that 39chan becomes more active
Not today though

Mikudayo (#567 - Oct 5, 2025, 21:27):
>>563
>The mods are clearly letting it rot
Problem is there are no mods, especially none that touch the vocaloid general. I recall being able to get some egregious shitposts removed through the report system, but that must be out the door by now. I guess mods were unprepared when those hololive threads blew up - clearly the ban was too late to save the board.

Mikudayo (#568 - Oct 5, 2025, 21:34):
>>567
It's not that they aren't prepared. They could've easily moved the Hololive stuff to /vt/. It's that they don't give a shit about it.

We've gotten to the point where a literal blog thread with a guy drunkposting has been up for days.

Mikudayo (#616 - Oct 22, 2025, 18:14):
You can tell the jaypees either moved here or Kissu based on how dogshit the threads have become. Now each thread there is like that shitty gossip thread on our /g/ but on steroids.

Mikudayo (#617 - Oct 22, 2025, 18:21):
>>616
Not our fault that /jp/ has no mods

Mikudayo (#721 - Feb 2, 2026, 20:15):
>>429
You guys are gonna call me a massive motherfucking faglet but to be fair i miss pre-/jp/ 39chan a little. I miss when /leek/ didn't have generals, the site was slower than the /jp/ Vocaloid threads, porn was allowed outside /o/, and there weren't so many crossies (crossboarders are shit regardless of where they come from)

But even with its flaws i still love this site and i love /leek/. I'm happy with this community.

Mikudayo (#722 - Feb 2, 2026, 20:17):
>>567
Funny you say this because during christmas a mod posted on the Vocaloid general and embedded a song. But yeah the quality of the threads there tends to suck for the most part, I miss how chill they used to be in the 2010s.

Mikudayo (#723 - Feb 2, 2026, 22:12):
>>721
>I miss when /leek/ didn't have generals
I can't disagree with you and it's part of why I've seen myself drifting from the site a little. The zoning doesn't make any sense when the site is this small and it tees us up for cliquey behavior when the site does get bigger, potentially. Hardly a new phenomenon, but so many people want imageboards to be chatrooms when they really suck for that purpose.

Mikudayo (#724 - Feb 2, 2026, 23:00):
>>721
NSFW was never allowed on the rest of the site, just /otn/. Agree with the generals thing though, but it's not something that bothers me too much.

Mikudayo (#725 - Feb 2, 2026, 23:27):
>>723
Silly question but what is zoning?

Mikudayo (#726 - Feb 2, 2026, 23:40):
>>725
In this use it's effectively segregating into smaller communities that don't really interact with each other. The problem with generals, broadly, is that they force continuity for a topic even when there's not really a need to always have an active thread for it, or they become broad catch-alls for what should be unique threads. Bumping threads is, in practice, supposed to give a good signal of an interesting or active discussion, but generals are just noise that require entering the thread to parse them. The more that becomes the case, the more people shelter inside of their few preferred generals rather than follow the board in total. The same people become involved in the same threads over and over and discussion stagnates.

It's less of an issue for the site currently because you can still pretty easily follow everything on the overboard, but generals work against what should make imageboards useful.

Mikudayo (#728 - Feb 2, 2026, 23:49):
>>726
I agree that it’s not much of an issue if most users are reading /all/ or the homepage. Maybe it could be in the long term.

Mikudayo (#729 - Feb 3, 2026, 11:34):
>>726
>>723
Not a fan of generals either but to be fair in /leek/'s case i accept them, because realistically, where else would you discuss current events? Making a thread for something that might receive like 2 or 3 replies at best feels spammy. It's not like the rest of the board is inactive, the other threads get traction too, and a lot of people post on /rvr/.

Puzzle (#730 - Feb 3, 2026, 11:51):
i wouldn't say that the generals are troublesome. at least not currently. but i could always look into alternatives if that happens. like >>729 pointed out, they can be quite useful for discussing current events without falling into the same problems as the now locked "fandom discussion thread" that was on /g/.

Puzzle (#731 - Feb 3, 2026, 12:01):
>>721
I assume this post is referring to the /otn/ board because to my knowledge porn was never fully allowed here. /otn/ was a porn dump board, and it was removed due to inactivity and the existence of booru sites, which, lets face it, they're better for dumping dicks n' balls than the typical Futaba style imageboard.

I've considered allowing NSFW images and discussion on /mmd/, so long as it doesn't turn into a porn dump board. Ecchi is allowed on /c/ and /leek/ and you are allowed to link to off-site pages containing nsfw content (e.g: catbox) . :lukaspin:

Mikudayo (#732 - Feb 3, 2026, 13:02):

Low reply threads are not spam, especially on a site with traffic at this level. That is the function of imageboards working as expected: people reply to discussion that interests them, and threads and topics that aren't interesting get bumped to higher pages and eventually off the board.

>a lot of people post on /rvr/
Collecting all releases in one thread I'd argue obfuscates link dumps as discussion, but it's also not really what I'm talking about. Generals are not bad because they collect discussion, similar to forum megathread, but because they enforce a rigidity of discussion that crowds out spontaneity. The moment a general hits bump limit, another is made with a backlink directly to the old thread.

Again, I don't really think it's that big of a deal at the moment, more just providing some context, but the Vocaloid general is already speeding up to the point that it is the dominant fixture of /leek/. I think the thought in >>730 that you can change habits and behavior later "if it happens" is a bad one when the function and behavior of generals is well trialed on another imageboards, large and small. Maybe it will work out for us all in the long run, but my sense is that the community here is younger/has less overall familiarity with why generals have been corrosive and why it's lazy to transplant them if you're trying to build a culture that's alternative to something like 4chan.

Mikudayo (#733 - Feb 3, 2026, 13:26):
>>732
the generals started appearing around the same time people from /jp/ migrated here. the first general on /leek/ literally has a copypaste of the OP from /jp/. i'm not gonna say that they've ruined the site because i still enjoy using it and i can always just not reply to a general, but if you look at the older threads on /leek/'s catalog you can tell the vibe was different and there was more variety in thread topics.

also /rvr/ has been a thing since day one i don't see the problem with it. i'd argue it's the most useful thread there since a lot of obscure producers get posted there and without it i'd have to rely on youtube's shitty algo.

Mikudayo (#734 - Feb 3, 2026, 15:08):
I like /leek/ better with the gen thread, not sure if that's an unpopular opinion or something. It's nice to be able to talk about stuff more spontaneously without feeling pressure to be on-topic all the time.
I guess some of the topics in there would work better as new threads, though.

Mikudayo (#735 - Feb 3, 2026, 15:19):
A significant reason that people gravitate towards generals is because it's a safe way to shitpost on boards with strict (read: arbitrary) moderation; making stupid threads incurs way more risk of being banned than individual off-topic posts. There are at least three ways of handling peoples' desire to shitpost:
1. Encourage a culture of funposting with a spammy catalog.
2. Delete crappy threads and keep low quality posts contained to generals.
3. Enforce a discussion-thread-only policy (no fun allowed).
Keep in mind that shitposters and effortposters are not mutually exclusive, and that ultimately, you cannot please everyone.

Mikudayo (#736 - Feb 3, 2026, 16:24):
>>734
i feel this way too personally

Mikudayo (#740 - Feb 4, 2026, 14:26):
I feel like there is no way to kill the generals without muzzling conversation. Sure, you would see new threads pop up, but I feel like many users who enjoy the generals would not make threads whenever they have random thoughts that could just be an easy post in the general thread.

Making a thread feels like it has a sort of responsibility to it, atleast to me. I post in a lot of threads but I have never considered making one. It's not really about being afraid of getting banned, it's more just being shy. Whenever someone else makes a thread I feel more justified posting in it than if I forced my thoughts onto a new one. IDK it's difficult to explain.

But the generals have been around since before me, so I can't vouch for how it was before. Maybe the conversation getting muzzled a bit can be a good thing to preserve a sort of order with the catalogue? I dunno, just wanted to share my two cents, but bottom line is I think you would distance a lot of people from the site by killing the general, and I think the popularity of the thread is proof of that.

Mikudayo (#741 - Feb 4, 2026, 14:38):
As i see it the /leek/ general serves as a decent place to discuss all the current events and happenings (outside of major news, those can go on /news/) and harmless shitposting, so I don't really mind it existing. I get how generals are harmful on 4chan but this isn't 4chan. And even with the general being the most active thread on /leek/, it's not like the other threads don't get replies.

tl;dr: general = ok and fine. /leek/ active enough for other thread to get reply.

Mikudayo (#742 - Feb 4, 2026, 16:51):
>>741
Generals are not a problem exclusive to 4chan and you can count on them being a problem here if this site grows larger.

Mikudayo (#743 - Feb 4, 2026, 16:59):
>>740
Yes it does require a shift in mentality. In order to phase out generals (without entirely cratering the post count) I do think that the staff would need to take an active part in promoting the idea of making new threads, because I think that many users today have never even experienced imageboards that were not just a collection of siloed chatroom-esque generals, and because of that, have never gained the confidence to just make threads about whatever silly nonsense comes to mind.

To be clear, I am not necessarily advocating for this; I'm not sure if it's even possible to turn back the clock on what, to me, seems like the inevitable outcome of capital accumulation, the centralization of the internet, the structure of imageboards, and moderator/user incentives/behavior; I'm just trying to articulate the position.

Mikudayo (#745 - Feb 4, 2026, 18:04):
the vocaloid gen on /dtm/ is older than 4chan. it was 6 or 7 threads deep before miku was announced

Mikudayo (#746 - Feb 4, 2026, 19:23):
>>745
Look, I know that I wasn't there, but I don't think that Vocaloid threads on the Japanese language textboard 2channel, have that much continuity with the Vocaloid threads on the English language imageboard 4chan.

The technology behind 4chan was inspired by the Japanese imageboard Futaba Channel (itself originally a textboard inspired by 2channel), however, culturally, the earliest 4chan users came from the Something Awful forums.

But like I said, I wasn't there, so I'd be interested to hear the case for there being a direct lineage; maybe there's some ancient internet history or Vocaloid community lore that I don't know about.

Mikudayo (#747 - Feb 4, 2026, 20:12):
>>745
The comparison is disingenuous, besides that persistent topics do not make something a general, that imageboards and textboards are not equivalents in function or behavior across cultures, and that you should not look to 2ch as a model of anything. Considering that it's on /dtm/ should clue you that it's specifically about Yamaha's Vocaloid software rather than a net catch-all for all discussions of vocal synths, as it is on /leek/.

>>746
There's no continuity as far as vocal synth fandom. 4chan's continuity with Futaba was largely broken the moment after moot translated Gazou himself, despite world2ch doing that work first. Perfectly fair to say SA had more influence on global imageboard culture than 2ch or Futaba or world2ch when most websites, including this one, are downstream of 4chan rather than its grandparents.

Mikudayo (#748 - Feb 4, 2026, 20:20):
>>747
>The comparison is disingenuous, besides that persistent topics do not make something a general, that imageboards and textboards are not equivalents in function or behavior across cultures, and that you should not look to 2ch as a model of anything.

Amen to that. I'll take this quiet place over the usual imageboard spam any day.

Mikudayo (#749 - Feb 5, 2026, 00:06):
>>746
couldn't tell you much about when or why 4chan adopted genthreads as much as it did, but the tradition of making a new thread before the post limit & copying a template OP was already present on 2ch in the early 2000s. there's even a thread using 前スレ on jaypee right now
>>747
the /dtm/ thread was the main thread until 2007 because most people who liked vocaloid were producers. afterwards the vocaloid gen on /streaming/ became more popular, which was another early thread turned into a catch-all. i think it resembled our gens more or less

tl;dr it's old. also 39chan doesn't autodelete threads which may be relevant here

Mikudayo (#750 - Feb 5, 2026, 00:57):
>>749
I don't think anyone ITT has argued that recurring threads have never existed before. The argument, as I understand it, is that generals have become more common across all imageboards, not just 4chan, and that this has led to a loss of distinct board cultures, as more and more users only post in their preferred general, and do not interact with the broader community.

Mikudayo (#751 - Feb 5, 2026, 11:15):
Been here pre-/jp/ migration and can confirm that they were the ones who introduced gen threads here after the April hack. I guess it is also one of the reasons people here avoid naming the site on /jp/.

At the same time though i'm not sure how you could even handle this other than maybe making the threads you want to see on this site.

Mikudayo (#752 - Feb 5, 2026, 15:21):
Generals are a learned behavior that has become widely replicated because it is perhaps the most successful adaptation for discussing any given topic within the technological niche that is imageboards.

Generals remove the need to create individual threads in order to ask questions, share opinions, post content, etc.; about their chosen topic, lowering the barrier to entry and increasing the overall post count for said topic.

With posts on that topic increasing overall, and centralized in a single thread, the constant stream of posts continually bump the general, keeping it at top of the board, where it's increased visibility and longevity leads to more users joining the thread, forming a positive feedback loop.

Linking the new general ensures that this runaway momentum does not dissipate; a regular old controversial thread eventually hits the bump limit and dies, bait threads can only be posted so frequently before they are deleted as spam, but as long as there is a stable core of regulars, eager to be the first to post in the new thread, a general will dominate its board.

Puzzle (#753 - Feb 5, 2026, 17:45):
I tell you what, i don't like general threads either, but i can't really think of a solution to this problem. I'm open to hearing your suggestions and feedback. By the time i got here generals were well established already, and banning them would probably divide the site's userbase or reduce activity by about 20%.

Mikudayo (#754 - Feb 5, 2026, 19:01):
I don't care about generals on /leek/, they can get banned for all i care, but please keep them on /live/

Mikudayo (#755 - Feb 5, 2026, 19:16):
>>753
>reduce activity by about 20%
It's a foolish precept to think that more activity means better quality of discussion. Not to say this is the scenario we are discussing, but I would gladly give up post count for better posts on any given day. Imageboards should offer more than chat rooms.

In the interest of a middle ground, I don't think you need to ban generals altogether at this point (the early conversation here largely agreed that it's not a huge problem at the moment), but I would like to see threads created with a focus/purpose. A "Vocaloid general" on /leek/, for an entire website dedicated to vocal synths, is superfluous.

Mikudayo (#757 - Feb 5, 2026, 20:45):

>>753
You need to police your jannies too. In no way was it appropriate to give me a 1 hour ban when other anons were derailing another thread dogpiling me for no reason. I literally just discovered this site yesterday.

https://39chan.moe/leek/res/14777.html#q16920

Excuse me if i don't automagically know all your board lore and obscure OC's exclusive to this board. You need to get rid of that manchild moderator you have. One report isnt "clogging up the report queue" on this obscure imageboard by any stretch of the word. I even offered to make 3D models of these characters for you guys and this is the thanks I get before I've even started? Fuck you too. Im taking my shit and leaving.

Mikudayo (#759 - Feb 5, 2026, 20:54):
>>757
A 1-hr ban is considered a warning here, it's never serious unless things escalate. It's basically a way for us to say "don't do this again or you'll actually get banned". You were warned for rule 3 and making multiple reports for bizarre reasons (a random picture of teto on fire with the reason "retard"?) or simply because you disagree with them. Take it or leave it, this isn't the thread for this sort of discussion.

Mikudayo (#760 - Feb 5, 2026, 21:10):
>>757
Not the jan but you were literally spoonfed twice in the same thread

Mikudayo (#761 - Feb 5, 2026, 21:22):
>>753
I think encouraging users to make new threads would go over better than stricter moderation. I suggest making some banners, and if you still have the news blotter, you can make an announcement. You could also ask that generals adopt templates in the OP gently reminding users that it's okay to post new threads.

Puzzle (#762 - Feb 5, 2026, 21:26):
>>761
i actually opened banner submissions two days ago since i feel like we need new ones, check >>737 if you wanna make one
>>757
1h ban is essentially a slap on the wrist. just don't do stupid stuff and it won't happen again.

Mikudayo (#763 - Feb 5, 2026, 21:29):
>>757
Mods give this nerd another hour
<tinyboard ban message>USER WAS BANNED FOR THIS POST</tinyboard>

Mikudayo (#767 - Feb 8, 2026, 22:34):
>>753
I don't think anything is necessary honestly. While /leek/ itself is active, the generals themselves are never super active and there's been a spike in non-general threads recently (likely as a result of this thread ig). The problem doesn't exist for now but it might in the future.

>>757
A 1h ban isn't enough, crossies should get permabanned

Mikudayo (#768 - Feb 10, 2026, 00:13):
I appreciate that you guys are beginning to make new threads instead of using the general. This is how it should be handled. :rinthumbs:

Mikudayo (#795 - Feb 20, 2026, 00:37):
>>768
i noticed this too, the generals are losing activity and theres more threads

Mikudayo (#799 - Feb 21, 2026, 20:05):

I hate to be the one to complain about the state of /jp/ but it feels like every Vocaloid thread there since 2015 always devolves into shitflinging

Mikudayo (#801 - Feb 28, 2026, 02:04):
39chan got a shoutout from Limbo, not sure if this will harm or benefit the site but expect an influx of users like it happened with Chakai :yukarietto:

I honestly do not really mind it if we get new users from youtube or some other place. If people are willing to adapt to the site's culture and use it without acting like literal apes then they are more than welcome here.

Mikudayo (#806 - Mar 1, 2026, 02:53):
>>805
Yeah i agree. Crossboarders tend to be a cancer though.

Mikudayo (#813 - Mar 1, 2026, 12:18):

I post on multiple imageboards myself but not duplicate topics and have never had an interest in any hive mind. I feel more at home on pseudonymous forums might be part of why I never took to enjoying garbage or being a jerk.

Mikudayo (#814 - Mar 1, 2026, 12:24):
>>813
Not all of them are bad, I like Kissubros. But the ones that expect the site to adapt to them instead of the other way around are aids, we've had some before.

Mikudayo (#815 - Mar 1, 2026, 12:29):
>>814
Yeah I get what you mean. They also try to take over forums too.

Mikudayo (#819 - Mar 7, 2026, 11:17):
Well 4chan is down again, expect an influx of jaypee users

Mikudayo (#854 - Mar 23, 2026, 07:36):
I apologize if people are sick of /jp/ discussion, I just wanted to let anyone who still cares about 4chan here know that the graphs on https://4stats.io/ are working again.

769 - Introducing PaintBBS: the new Oekaki

Starting today, the old Oekaki board will be replaced with Potiboard, a Futaba based tool which lets you draw using PaintBBS, Tegaki, Axnos Paint, Shi-Painter and more. Those of you who used Vocaloidism back in the day are probably familiar with this format as it was used by that site as well in the early 2010's.

>What will happen to Drawthreads?
Threads where you can request drawings will continue to be allowed on /leek/. In case of NSFW requests, it is recommended that any lewd imagery regardless of whether it is a reference pic or a delivery, should be kept off-site. We recommend the site Catbox: https://catbox.moe/

>So is /o/ completely gone now?
Nay, you can still access it, you just won't be able to post on it. The board is locked and archived, and will remain up for as long as 39chan itself lives.

>What is allowed and what isn't?
So far we don't have any restrictions on what cannot be drawn aside from "spammy" drawings such as stickman penises and the type of "art" you'd expect to see from an elementary schooler with access to a pen and paper, those will be deleted on sight. Of course, drawings must remain Vocaloid related, this is a Vocaloid site after all.

>What if I want to share art that's neither a delivery or a request?
/leek/ has an original content thread: >>>/leek/10912

From now on including the name of the site in your banner is optional. "39chan" is already plastered everywhere I think we're getting the point across already.

215 - Banner Contest

39chan is in need of a new frontpage banner and we need (You), yes YOU, to design it.

Rules:
<Banner must be 750x200 or 750x300 and include "39chan" somewhere
<It must include between 4-9 vocal-synthesizer characters like the current banner
<Do not draw extremely obscure characters (e.g. your own UTAU from 2010), stick to characters that are recognizable to at least 3 people (This rule does not apply to 39chan characters such as Sena and TORIKO)
<Simple, chibi art styles are preferred but not required
<Vsynth doesn't matter - you can draw from vocaloid and voicevox to synthv and maidloid
<No Photoshop or AI garbage
<No pronz, keep it SFW
<3D is allowed as long as the models are original (Note: Koikatsu does not count)

Good luck drawfrends.

It's not you, we '''have''' been getting more users recently. I'm the co-owner so I don't have access to the analytics but if I had to guess most of the traffic comes from that Imageboards site

Sad that 39chan require now JS to show/open the POST (reply) form. I remember when that kind of unacceptable website behavior wasn't a thing.
:yukarietto:
we do even remember when people thanked 39chan before for not having that issue.

also error while posting (unable to post) {"readyState":0,"status":0,"statusText":"error"}

another error: you must answer the question, last field. Despite it is answered.

how many vb exist under cv? I said 6. What' correct answer?

Mikudayo (#358 - May 19, 2025, 17:26):

the 'update' deteriorated some expirience due lack of tests maybe under different browsers, plugins

moth (#359 - May 19, 2025, 17:32):
>>357
The Show/Hide form feature was added to prevent the form from taking up so much space (also for the sake of familiarity since we had a lot of traffic from /jp/ around the time it was implemented).
>also error while posting (unable to post) {"readyState":0,"status":0,"statusText":"error"}
What browser are you using?
>how many vb exist under cv? I said 6. What' correct answer?
The captcha is there to slow down CSEM bots who spam our site. We still get them, sadly, but we're still trying to find ways to fight against them. If you're into Vocaloid you should know the answer but I posted a hint in the meta thread.

No plans. I don't think unique IPs are something worth celebrating. There might be something for the site's 1st anniversary if it's still around by that time though.

i'm new!! happy to be here!! is there a place to discuss vocaloid related rhythm games like project diva and pjsekai?

Mikudayo (#263 - Apr 18, 2025, 21:34):
>>262
theres a project diva thread on /leek/ and a sekai one on /g/ although i think a lot of anons here really hate sekai

Mikudayo (#264 - Apr 18, 2025, 21:39):
>>263
A lot of newbies missed it but we had a /pjsk/ board as part of this year's april fools prank

Mikudayo (#265 - Apr 18, 2025, 21:41):
>>263
i personally like sekai i think it's a really fun game but i can definitely understand why some fans hate it
seems like the pjsk fanbase is full of a lot of people who didn't know what vocaloid was before

Mikudayo (#266 - Apr 18, 2025, 21:42):
>>264
not that there was anything valuable on the board though. it was mainly joke posts, people complaining about the board's existence and porn of that genderless character twitter is obsessed with making you believe is a woman.

Mikudayo (#267 - Apr 18, 2025, 21:43):
>>266
>that genderless character twitter is obsessed

mizuki is a cool character i hate it when the internet reduces such cool characters to porn

Mikudayo (#268 - Apr 18, 2025, 23:35):
>>267
to be fair I do really love Mizuki as a character but also since I (rightly) assumed the board was going to get deleted after a day I figured there wasn't much point about properly discussing Mizu.. :lenno:
I do admit I'm usually also frustrated when people reduce my favs down to just sexualizing them, but one day on a board that was also slower at that point in time wasn't really going to foster any meaningful conversations about Mizuki either unfortunately

Mikudayo (#269 - Apr 18, 2025, 23:36):
>>268
Make a thread on /g/ if you wanna talk about Sekai that's what we did with Diva on /leek/

Mikudayo (#270 - Apr 18, 2025, 23:42):
>>269
I was thinking about eventually making one after I catch up on the event stories I want to read, or once Mizu5 comes out in english. I don't think I actually have enough thoughts on it right now to make a thread. If someone else wants to they're free to though! :lukaclap:

>>121
I don't know if that's possible. I'll have to look into vichan's settings. We have /all/ if that counts, though.

Mikudayo (#128 - Nov 17, 2024, 01:00):
>>123
Just found a way to do it via Google. Thanks for considering anyway!

Mikudayo (#129 - Nov 17, 2024, 02:37):
Since /mup/ failed, what about a board dedicated to *all* types of original content creation? Including art, 3DCG (Blender, Metaseqoia etc. not just MMD), PV editing etc. (If others are interested, I am and thread >>73 exists)

Mikudayo (#130 - Nov 17, 2024, 04:30):
The URLs on sitemap.xml are broken.
https://39chan.moe/sitemap.xml
<tinyboard ocr image 0></tinyboard>

moth (#131 - Nov 17, 2024, 11:36):
>>129
I personally don't see the need for it at the moment. Especially when /leek/ already has a production thread, /o/ exists for most kinds of art, /mmd/ already works as a 3DCG board (Blender, Koikatsu, etc are allowed there despite MMD being the main focus) and PV editing could be discussed on either /leek/ or /g/. I'll leave it to the rest of the staff to decide if we really need this or not.
>>130
Should be fixed now.

Mikudayo (#132 - Nov 23, 2024, 01:39):
posting is so slow today. it takes like a minute to reply to a thread.

youtu.be embeds do not work. :lensorry:

Mikudayo (#135 - Nov 26, 2024, 06:32):
Could we get non-Youtube embeds? I'm thinking Soundcloud and Twitter videos.
>>133
I think shortlinks are disabled entirely to prevent spam and bad actors.

Mikudayo (#136 - Nov 26, 2024, 11:16):
>>135
>Could we get non-Youtube embeds? I'm thinking Soundcloud and Twitter videos.
I recommend just getting the 4chanX extension which already does this and manually adding 39chan.moe to it. Custom embeds are a pain in the ass to add.

youtu.be links not working also has nothing to do with bots. The software we use just doesn't come with support for it. If i find a way to add it i might.

Mikudayo (#137 - Nov 26, 2024, 20:40):

Mikudayo (#142 - Dec 8, 2024, 07:09):
Posting without a comment now comes up with the error "The body was too short or empty." That makes it a bit difficult to post on the /c/ board.

>>142
No idea why force_body was enabled but you should be able to post now

Mikudayo (#146 - Dec 8, 2024, 20:46):

84 - Not in alphabetical order anymore

The mu / meta / g is not in alphabetical order anymore, is that ok?? Like is that done on purpose?

they've never been in alphabetical order, they're ordered by category, just like on the frontpage.

Mikudayo (#86 - Oct 25, 2024, 01:34):
>>85
Ohhh I thought each || was its own category and then they were ordered alphabetically, it is definitely just that my memory is shot though 🫡 thank you for explaining

75 - Poll time. How would fellow 39chfrends feel if the site was expanded to include other 4/jp/ related topics as originally intended before the rebrand from Nanachan to vsqchan/39chan?.

This would include boards dedicated to Touhou and 07th Expansion (Higurashi, Umineko, etc). We already have an Utaite board.

My only fear is that this could detract from the site's main purpose which is to host Vocaloid discussions. I want >>>/leek/ to be the site's "main" board. So having a completely unrelated board on a Vocaloid site become the top board would be kinda ironic.

Hmmmm, I'm a big fan of Higurashi (and Umineko) but I know I'm biased so while I say yes I'd also say take my vote with a grain of salt I guess!

Mikudayo (#79 - Oct 24, 2024, 17:12):
i'd say yes but i don't know if having dedicated boards for each of those topics is the way to go. i think a general otaku culture board like /jp/ is the way to go, but i get it if the intent is to "filter" out otaku cultures that aren't in the spirit of the board like JAV.

I'd prefer it stay Vocaloid-centric, although off-topic boards dedicated to 2hu or whatever instead of a total rebrand could work. The names 39chan & VSQchan are also way too cute to give up to me. Maybe an all encompassing off-topic board where people can just make generals for whatever series they want to talk about?

Yeah I think at the moment I have no plans of goign through with this. >>>/g/ also already exists for off topic discussions. :kaitocheer:

64 - why did 39chan become 39chan, and not stay as vsqchan? I prefer it as 39chan but I'm curious why it became that

'''vsqchan''' is hard to pronounce, doesn't give away much info about the site and looks ugly on the banners. 39chan rolls off the tongue better, people associate 39 with Miku so you instantly know what the site is about and with other chan sites having numbers in their url (2chan, 4chan, 8chan, etc) it fits.

52 - Question

Are frames back? Is the reason they’re back because of the bigger banner?
(Ignore the image I have nothing better on my phone)

moth (#53 - Oct 11, 2024, 21:58):
If you're seeing frames do CTRL + Shift + R (or refresh the page if on mobile). Your browser probably cached an old version of the site from when it still had frames.

But to answer your question, no, frames are not back.

Mikudayo (#54 - Oct 11, 2024, 22:07):
>>53
I don’t actually know what frames are I just assumed any border around the banner is a frame? Is that what they are or am I just making some wild mass guessing

Mikudayo (#55 - Oct 11, 2024, 22:25):
>>54
Frames are that thing on the left with board links. 4chan used to have them (and technically they still do but they're disabled by default).

Mikudayo (#56 - Oct 12, 2024, 17:49):
No frames on mobile at all... what kind of browser are you using?

Earlier we had the security set to the highest for certain reasons
It's back to normal now
If it doesn't work still then you need to update your browser

Mikudayo (#41 - Oct 2, 2024, 06:17):

I can visit and use the site now again!
