Unrelated to 39chan but did anyone get to use this when it existed?

Crazy that I've used imageboards for decades and this is my first time hearing about this Mikuchan. Even crazier that they were partnered with Vocaloidism.

it seems that by 2014 they switched to something more akin to what we have here today on 39chan, with a main board for vocaloid discussion like >>>/leek/, a mmd board like >>>/mmd/ and some other misc stuff

God, what a time capsule of a website. And they were unashamedly horny too, just like the leekers. From the looks of it though Mikuchan was short lived (2009-2014) and the boards were mostly categorized versions of /c/ as someone mentioned earlier, serving as more of an image board than an actual discussion site. Still, there is some discussion on /vocaloid/ and it's a beautiful sight.

Found this on the jaypee archives. There was apparently another short lived Mikuchan running on Tinyboard called "Mikuchan.biz".

The CSS might be what they call "lost media".

Interesting that the idea of a Vocaloid imageboard isn't new. But I wonder what 39chan did right for it to get big in such a short amount of time and even get 2ch's blessing. From what I understand it wasn't even promoted much.

 No.512

Unironically might've been luck due to it serving as a refugee site during the 4chan hack. That, proper moderation and events such as the Q&A's and listening parties. Not sure what you mean by 2ch's blessing though. Are you saying the VIPPERS use this?.

 No.513

This board was fairly well known as far as alternate imageboards go at the time, especially as the default continues to be for them to die after six months to a year. I'm a little amused that it's being brought up here now as some sort of obscurity.

There was also an IRC channel and a LastFM group at the time, deleted/gone at this point.

>But I wonder what 39chan did right for it to get big in such a short amount of time and even get 2ch's blessing.
Where's the evidence for this? This site definitely doesn't have any mentions on 5ch and cursory X searches with lang:ja don't show anything. BBSes are larger a dead phenomenon in Japan, as they are largely abroad.

This site has a decently healthy base but I wouldn't call it "big", there are definitely other imageboards satisfying that class.

The average anon here is in their early 20's with only a minority being in their 30's so this is not surprising to me. It doesn't help that Mikuchan (not this site) is rarely brought up when discussing altchans

39chan also has no ties to 5ch/2ch, not sure what anon is talking about

kind of sucks that it shut down

It's not really an age thing, really my own amusement bouncing here after I replied to another thread gassing the cultural relevance of 39chan. I like cottage image boards but very have historically overcome the inertia to have any longevity or relevance. Mikuchan wasn't really all that special because while it did have some longevity, it was a trickle of posts at the end. The IRC didn't list beyond like 2015.

Can any reverse image search gods identify the original image used in their banner? I wasn't able to get anything from Google, Saucenao or Yandex

Drawn by Takeshita Kenji. The original image on Pixiv no longer exists but it was probably uploaded around 2008 if the Danbooru date is anything to go by.

There is also the vector version by Xanime4lifeX made in 2009, which is the version that was likely used for the /miku/ banner.

The image has a link to the author's Minitokyo account so i looked it up and it still exists. It very likely is this link, although it doesn't load for me so I cannot confirm: http://gallery.minitokyo.net/view/387939

I vaguely remember this. riipah was an user on it (vocadb guy), but the old mikuchan didnt make the same splash as 39chan. It was still a cool place though.

Still into Vocaloid but doesn't interact with the community that much anymore. He was at MikuExpo 2024. Apparently he's married too.

Might be unofficial
