So how long are they going to be using LED screens for? I know that no one goes to these shows for the hologram technology but the music and the energy but come on, holograms are what they are most known for. Fanmade concerts use much cheaper equipment and yet they still give us holograms instead of screens.

 No.889

I feel like they’ll be using LEDs until some more advanced technology comes out. I’ve heard of shows using transparent screens that would be fine. The holograms are probably too much trouble outside Japan.

>The holograms are probably too much trouble outside Japan
How so? They've used them for decades up until Expo 2024

 No.891

>>890
The take I've heard is that the US holograms were always kind of jank/cheaper compared to JP, and for the most recent Expos, they've expanded the number of venues so that there's less time to set up and more complexity involved. In general it feels like there's more Western demand than the showrunners can handle and they're a little stretched thin. Makes me think of how they keep understocking the pen lights too.

 No.892

>>891
Does that mean Miku / PJSK are a money sink for Crypton? There's no way they wouldn't be able to afford even the cheaper holograms

 No.893

They used LEDs for the Asian tour last year as well.

 No.894

If i had to guess, expo 2026 will look like this
Screen again except longer

 No.987

I would still much prefer a hologram but the recent Deco Miku concert made great use of the screens so if they're used in creative ways like that i welcome them

 No.989

>>892
Not Miku/PJSK, but the concerts maybe. If I had to guess, I'd guess they're designed to break even.
>>894
This would be basically fine. As long as they don't have a 16:9 black box with a fireworks display behind it.

 No.990

I think they should at the very least try to hide that it's a big black box. You can tell where the screen begins and where it ends with all the lights behind it.

 No.991

>>890
I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily more a hassle but more so a time thing. Considering how tight they make their tour schedule outside Japan, they don’t have as much time to set up, calibrate, and take down the set up. If the hologram isn’t calibrated right, the whole concert would look weird and they can’t fix it mid-concert. This has actually happened at a Miku Expo event before and while people still had fun, half of the projection was messed up. For the LEDs, while there was an error or two, they could potentially fix any problems during the event if needed.

When they’re in Japan, they usually have things a bit more spaced out so they have more time to make sure things look right. They have used the LED screens at a handful of concerts, but like another anon said before, I wouldn’t be surprised if eventually they fully transition to LEDs.

 No.998

I wonder why they don't use a curved screen.

I wish they would do a concert at the Sphere in Las Vegas which is basically covered in small LEDs but that's never happening lol

 No.1006

>>991
People like the hologram because it gives the illusion that Miku is actually there. I don't know how the screen compares but ideally it should give that same illusion.

 No.1007

>>999
If they can't even get massive artists there i doubt they'll get Miku. But i guess a man can dream.

 No.1008

>>1007
Honestly barely any of the artists who've performed at the Sphere stand out because of their visuals. When I think of music with cool visuals I think of bands like Tool not U2. But at the end of the day it's not us who choose who gets to perform there. A Miku concert there would definitely be life changing though.

 No.1010

>>1006
IA has used LEDs before, I don't think anyone was complaining. I guess it looks good for the audience as long as you don't have any seats on the sides. Problem with Miku concerts is that they are bigger in scale so they need those side seats to ensure everyone can watch, and those people will see through the illusion.

 No.1011

Teto Live used a screen too last year if I'm not mistaken but that concert was way smaller

 No.1013

>>999
It looks cool outside but inside it's pretty ordinary. Apparently you can buy spherical LED screens

 No.1015

It was also crowdfunded so it was probably more budget friendly.

 No.1016

>>1013
No it does look cool as fuck on the inside as well

 No.1018

>>1016
Was difficult to tell from photos. Are they LEDs too or are they just using projectors?

 No.1019

>>1018
If you're talking about the Sphere I think it's an entire wall covered in small LEDs. The Phish shows in particular had some very beautiful visuals.

 No.1020

>>1019
Here's another cool one from the U2 concert

 No.1021

As much as i'd love a sphere concert it's never gonna happen because it probably costs a lot and you know Crypton. Plus the Sphere has only hosted boomer bands so far.

 No.1031

So for us who have been waiting to see the hologram but haven't had the chance are fan concerts and Magical Mirais our only option now? I highly doubt they're going to bring them back for Expo 2026

Transparent LED screens exist. Why do they not use those instead?

 No.1100

>>1099
This is the best long term solution

 No.1101

What if they had andotropes that move around stage on wheels? It is basically just a display that spins so every viewing angle is the same image.

 No.1102

>>1006
Genuine question but what type of hologram is the one in this image? Is is the same one as >>1101 ?

 No.1103

>>1101
i think >>1099 is the best solution honestly

 No.1105

>>1102
I think it is peppers ghost not a spinning display or a transparent display but Im not certain. It likely uses LCD screens as the image source not a projector.

>>1103
I do wonder how an andotrope would look with a transparent screen like that. Combine the tech.

 No.1106

>>1102
Actually my bad it isnt peppers ghost but maybe a transparent light field display. That would explain the high price tag. I cant imagine how Much something large enough to hold a life size model would be especially if wide enough they can lay down too not just stand up.

 No.1109

>>1102
Nope I was right the first time it is just peppers ghost not a TLFD and uses a projector that shines onto a mirror that is reflected on a glass panel so the price tag was actually excessive.

 No.1110

>>1099
Expense and quality. To put it simply, it's still too new.

While I can definitely see it being an option in the future, it's one of those things where it's better to wait for the technology to further develop before adoption.

Using LG for a reference, a 77" Transparent currently runs at pretty much $100k, 77" plain old smart TV is about $2400. Plus, the common complaint I've seen from the rich who can afford it, is that the quality just simply isn't as clean in comparison. This is all consumer stuff, not corporate, so prices and sizes, of course, would be different in Miku's case.

 No.1115

>>1110
It is artificially high prices I think. You even can actually turn a normal LCD monitor into a transparent one. The result for something on a large stage isnt much better than using a projector on glass, only bonus is objects can pass in front of it without you blocking a projection so it is better for small stages that are well lit as opposed to the projection method where it is opposite and you need darkness so there is different use cases. Ones that use OLED are only slightly different from a normal OLED screen in how they are constructed but OLEDs can have issue of image burn in over time.

Not anymore. And Crypton aren't gonna ditch the screens just to please a minority of western otaku. Go to fan concerts, start hoping that they do one in your area.

Some of KAFs songs are a duet with KAFU so I do wonder if she includes those in concerts or not

>>1167
The previous hologram was probably not much more expensive than the screen I think unless for some reason they specifically have to use glass and not plexiglass since large sheets probably are very costly to make.

>Billion dollar company
I know you're joking but maybe half of the reason people give Crypton so much flak is they think they're a hugely capitalized outfit with money to throw at every problem. Most of their business is licensing. They are almost certainly in the ballpark of an eight figure dollar company.

 No.1175

So is that actually it? No more official events making use of the old hologram tech?

Well they didn't say anything about next week's pokemon concert but given the venue and the fact that the lawson live didn't say either yet used a screen, I'm 90% sure it's not gonna be a hologram.

 No.1190

Nothing’s set in stone but moving forward, unless a new tech for the hologram is introduced, we’ll likely see more LED usage. Mirai confirming LEDs though is pretty much the nail in the coffin.

 No.1193

Were they possibly using an LED screen all along but on the floor or were they using projectors ? I found this diagram on a site selling Pepper's Ghost film.

 No.1194

Up until recently, it was projected. I'm struggling to find it myself, but there is an old presentation in English somewhere on YouTube by a crypton rep explaining the hologram projection in depth.

 No.1195

>>1194
That is the tricky part since the illusion is a projection in itself. So did they actually show a video projector unit?

With how cheap every post-2024 concert has been I don't they'd be willing to invest in something like this.

 No.1786

>>1753
This. They even hire local musicians now instead of the Japanese band.

 No.1788

>>1786
That’s fine, the local band is pretty good. The drummer is cool.

 No.1789

>>1786
Admittedly, the local musicians is likely in response to the performance visa fee increase a few years back, but not an issue as long as they enjoy what they do. Love that the drummer is the same as 2024 though. He got more and more into it and seems to just have so much fun. I love it.

 No.1792

>>1789
Performance visa fee? That sounds ridiculous.

 No.1794

>>1792
Ridiculous but true. It’s specifically the US fee that had a sharp increase in 2024. Whether or not they were affected in 2024 is unknown. That said it’s only the band that would need to be considered iirc but that’s just the likely case. Either way, the main reason I’m going isn’t the band, it’s Miku. So as long as the band can play, it’s no big deal who they are as long as Miku is on screen. Especially since they haven’t had a specific dedicated band in years.
