Damn, i can't go

Might be the first time i've ever wanted to go to Georgia

 No.1151

Did any of you go? there was apparently a kigurumi IA lol
Unfortunate that no one organized a 39chum meetup there

When are we getting another vocaloid themed con

>Mini con
Not trying to disrespect the organizers here, who i'm sure did an amazing job, but what's stopping us from having a big con exactly? If Touhou fans get Touhoufest, why hasn't anyone tried to make a 100% Vocaloid con like the Touhou fellas?.

 No.2126

>>2125
Nothing, really. There's been a decent amount of fan concerts, but no one has put together a full con. If the right group of people put their heads together, it could be feasible... maybe even from here.

 No.2127

>>2125
Likely because it's expensive

 No.2128

>>2125
If it's so easy, why haven't you organized one? That's the presumption behind your post.
Even if it wasn't fully Vocaloid, I would say Anime Otapia qaulifies as pretty close to being a Vocaloid con, and that took a tremendous cash infusion and heaps of uncertainty to be realized.

 No.2129

>>2125
If they're first time con organizers then it is a completely smart move to start small no matter how capable they are. I'm pretty sure most cons tend to only increase in scope incrementally.

>>2128
That one just seems like chinese companies shoveling money into trying to create a new megacon. Not the model we're going after.

 No.2131

>>2128
I don't think anon is saying that it's easy but rather asking why it hasn't been done yet considering we have a lot of Vocaloid fan events already. I think it's a matter of it being risky and expensive.

Thoughts from someone who actually went to Touhoufest this year (first time)
<Because Vocaloid naturally leans itself into performances, there are already some amount of fan run Vocaloid concerts in way that never really existed for Touhou
<Touhoufest only manages to just about break even each year, and does not have a massive amount of outside funding
<Touhoufest is actually a lot smaller than people realize, especially day 2 which a lot less people go to since the big events are on day 1
<However it is growing yearly
<While there has always been drama surrounding touhoufest, I have not seen it directly reflected in the way the con is run, and multiple people told me the staff has fixed issues they complained about in the past
For an independent vocaloid con to work, you'd need a lot of connections to pull it off. Producers, artists, DJs... along with enough people willing to put up the money. It's clearly possible, it would just require a lot of work. Something of inspiration besides the aforementioned mini con would be Miku Only NY earlier this year, which i did not get the chance to visit but will almost certainly go next year if it's run again.
If enough people here put their heads together, perhaps we could get something off the ground.

For some context, Touhoufest is effectively a subsidiary of AniMarketplace. They help set up venues for smaller cons with a focus on doujin culture. Something like a western VOM@S would be doable through them.

On the other hand: I know it's tempting to think about who to invite, but the actual hard part is getting people who know how to run an event without serious mishaps or breaking the bank. The previous US Touhou con went bankrupt after booking too many special guests, and this is hardly unheard of.

 No.2137

What would (You) include in a Vocaloid con aside from the stuff mentioned in OP

 No.2140

>>2137
Maybe Q&A panels with VPs/producers, like what we do on /leek/ sometimes but in a live, IRL setting

MMD workshops (informal)

Aside from donations, which i'm not sure would even be effective in the first place, i don't know what you could do.

>we're
The dude asked about big cons. If "big" is the goal then you have to shoot for the moon, and you need money more than anything. Money, planning, and organization, yes, but money can override almost everything which is what Otapia effectively accomplished.
Vocaloid is dominated by teens in the west, still. The conditions aren't going to be favorable to see more people take shots at organizing fan events until that changes.
