They are relatvely cheap and offer very good and fast feedback. In combination with force feedback on individual joints it's possible to balance almost anything. How well it would balance in reality depends on the robot's center of mass, motor position, their immediate maximal torque, and control latency. Rei's motors look absolutely tiny to what they ought to move.
