 No.48[Last 50 Posts]

Fuck it, Engloid thread. I feel like they don't get the love they deserve so let's talk about them here.

 No.64

How did Engloids fall off so hard? It's not like no one cares about Vocaloid music in English, all those recent Teto and Miku songs and even Butcher Vanity prove there's still a market for it but it wasn't long ago when everybody was obsessed with Oliver and Big AL. You rarely hear people talk about them anymore.

I miss Oliver, he was cute

Oliver will probably return eventually now that he has an AI voicebank. It's only a matter of time before we see new songs with him.

 No.126

Engloid as a concept lives on through SynthV and soon Maghni AI (they're the ones making AI voicebanks of all the PowerFX 'loids). With the Zero-G ones its a bit uncertain, I doubt we'll be seeing Avanna, Sonika, Tonio, Prima, etc get updated voicebanks anytime soon. Sonika is confirmed to have had a V4 in progress but it was cancelled around the time Vocaloid 5 came out.

Fuck Yamaha.

I was informed that Vocatone's new voicebanks might have different voice providers. This was known for Oliver since apparently Vocatone is now against using real children for their voicebanks (likely because of songs like the very infamous "Gay Sex", let's be honest) but apparently Ann/Al will not be voiced by Frank and Jody. I don't know how true this is but it's definitely worrying.

"i know vocatone/pfx are still around" About PFX..haha..
Unless you know something I don't, PFX's involvement with Vocaloid ended with Bil Bryant leaving the company. Is Vocatone the only dedicated Engloid company left? That's kinda sad

 No.488

>>487
Isn't Vocatone part of PowerFX? Every "returning" Maghni voicebank so far has been a previously released PFX voicebank (Big AL, Sweet Ann, Oliver, Ruby, etc).
>Is Vocatone the only dedicated Engloid company left?
From the Vocaloid (software) era, yes. There's still English only voicebanks being developed for SynthV.

 No.493

>From the Vocaloid (software) era, yes. There's still English only voicebanks being developed for SynthV.
Yeah, I should've specified that I was referring specifically to English Vocaloids and not vsynths in general orz
>Isn't Vocatone part of PowerFX? Every "returning" Maghni voicebank so far has been a previously released PFX voicebank (Big AL, Sweet Ann, Oliver, Ruby, etc).
Originally I thought they were more akin to a circle a la VOCALOMAKETS (even if they are an actual business/LLC) but the Vocaloid wiki does say they're a spin-off company? Interesting..even then I feel that's different from being actually part of PFX, who I heard dropped out of Vocaloid after YOHIOloid + Bil Bryant's departure to focus on Soundation (which makes them way more money) a long time ago.
Vocatone is mostly comprised of fans from the community too, but I don't really keep up with Vocatone, Maghni AI, or PFX's Vocaloid stuff outside of Oliver so I may be wrong or something might have changed. (God willing)
Unless I missed something, the "returning" vocals are also still solely speculation and haven't been confirmed to be old Engloids yet (even though I agree some look similar and probably are)
I'll have to look into it more..we'll both have to wait and see.

Technically YAMAHA still makes ENGloids but they're uhh……….. let's just say they're not marketed towards the average Vocaloid user. I have to admit I like CYBER DIVA though.

Even if i'm not a fan, the creepy 3D models at least sounded better than whatever the hell they went with for V6. I don't know what it is about V6 voicebanks that i dislike but i haven't heard a single good one. Can't be the engine noise because CEVIO is way worse in that regard and yet i love KAFU.

Agree. Probably the flatness of the vocals, they sound so bad because Yamaha got rid of 90% of the parameters and I'm not even kidding. Vocaloid has always had this problem but at least in the past end-users had a way to correct it without spending $500+ on VSTs. Pretty sure even "Character" and "Expression" were added via updates and weren't even there on release.
The comments on that video are pretty telling LOL (but I also prefer KAFU + CeVIO and Voisona to SynthV or Vocaloid personally)

 No.563

I think about engloids a lot. I feel like a lot of them are very unique but failed to get the love they deserve just for the fact that 90% of vocaloid's fanbase is japanese. Prima, tonio, avanna and even miriam all have very interesting voices (especially the first two, they're currently the only vocalsynths made for opera until that new synthv comes out). Even Sonika who admittedly is the least interesting of the bunch (even if i and most of this site love her) has at least some charm and a distinct voice that cannot be compared to other vsynths.

Have we even gotten a purposely cutesy (both voice and design) English vocal since Sonika? Vocals marketed for pop alone don't count to me imo (especially since deep-voiced pop singers like Adele exist, and Solaria is more similar to Adele than Hatsune Miku outside of having a character design. That might be why people are still so attached to Sonika in the first place.)

Voices that have character designs aren't inherently character vocals to me either, the Starry Court (Solaria, Asterian and them) are marketed as professional pop, bass etc. vocals and not cute characters.

I don't even listen to country music and would still kill for a country-loid with a similar design and voice in a cartoony style similar to Alex Ahad or any of the Skullgirls artists. and a voice like Applejack's (´・ω・`)

i'm pretty sure sonika was meant to be exactly that when they made her. her original boxart used the render in picrel for a long time before the redesign. it was in late 2009 that they decided to market her vb towards the fandom instead of the actual producers and do contests and interact with the community via twitter.

i honestly wish they still did the twitter stuff with new vocaloids. it made them feel more "real". like you were reading some celebrity's tweets. the only account that still somewhat does this is oliver and it's not even close to what sonika's account was.

Part of me wishes CYVA/CYMAN's voicebanks had Japanese counterparts (no, VY1/VY2 don't count) so people would make more stuff with them. I know CYVA has a couple originals but the only good ones are the ones Circus/Crusher made because they're the only engloid producers who know how to tune and mix.

CYMAN has uhh… his demos and that's it.

I believe in you /leek/.

 No.1283

>>1276
Eleanor seems like another one of those banks that just happens to have a character design for marketing reasons but still has a mature and/or professional voice, like the Eclipsed Sounds banks. Especially because she was just another reference voicebank by Kanru (because I think this was before Dreamtonics even existed iirc) until Animen bought her rights and just slapped the cute girl on it. I wish there was a loli/cutesy sounding English voicebank (on literally any VSynth), Sonika may not be a loli but her voice is still way cuter than the average Engloid, native English SynthV etc.
Hell, even Miku English herself sounds mature! Maybe Maghni AI will deliver with Imani, I heard a rumor that a Maghni AI bank is going to be voiced by a voice actor instead of the typical amateur or professional singer that English banks get, hell even Oliver himself is a choir boy’s voice and not intended to be a character, and to my knowledge choir boys are trained by professionals.
What I’m seeking is an Engloid with a voice like KAFU/Zundamon/POPY/Gwar Gura (lmao), not just an Engloid with a character design because there are probably tons of those esp. if we include UTAU. Unfortunately it’s probably going to take a long time because English anime VAs are probably scared of AI aside from VTubers most of them also suck, and “normal” English VAs who do things like cartoons are probably either too expensive to hire or will also see AI and assume vocal synths are “trying to steal their jobs.”

Take this with a grain of salt because vidrel is the only Eleanor song I know and listen to regularly (I’m not really interested in covers anymore) and she sounds pretty mature in it to me.

 No.1284

I unironically want something to come out of this Sonika meme so we can show vsynth companies cute girls can sell in the West too. I wish whoever was trying to make Sonika V4 did a crowdfund, I’m sure people would love it. Maybe she’ll get a Maghni AI since a bunch of other previously “abandoned” Engloids are speculated to? God willing. It seems like Sonika is still available on ZeroG’s website as well, even adding her to cart works. Does she come with the V2 editor? I swear I saw someone say either Miku or all V2 voicebanks come with the editor. If true, does V2 run well on Windows10?

 No.1287

File: 1738537474728.png(4.18 MB, 1872x3663, IMG_2086.png)

Wait I remember she exists, and there’d also a high chance she has the same voice provider and/or was created by the same people as Yami Ryone. Rarely see content with her though..Also sucks she looks like a loli but is canonically 21. Cowards.

All the discontinued 'loids that got on Maghni were PFXloids because VocaTone are a spinoff company of PowerFX. Sonika on the other hand is developed by Zero-G who quit the vsynth scene after Yanaha fucked them over.

>>4498
Eclipsed Sounds actively embraces the Western communities, specifically the American and UK ones. I hate Solaria's design and voice but aside from her and the purple opera one I can never spell right, I think Eclipsed has an alright output. Elanor is also very hard to obtain, so that's why I'm guessing people moved on. I love Dreamtonics' banks despite them not having designs. I like drawing up concepts but I never end up finishing them.
My favorite ES bank is HXVOC, but Asterian is very high up there.

 No.4503

>>4502
I personally like both their voices and design but yeah they're not made for the average vsynth weeb, they're made for producers

 No.4507

>>4503
It's kind of funny how small the "western producer who refuses to use a weeb voicebank" market is even today after 10+ attempts to appeal to them. Maybe there's some community I don't know about, but it feels like Eclipsed is the only group to come close to widespread adoption, and their products have character designs that are plenty goofy and "unprofessional". I don't see any real reason why the professional bank/unprofessional bank divide needs to exist.

 No.4508

>>4509
I'm not surprised that Teto got popular with western producers. The reason they didn't use her before is because unless you're CircusP making Japanese voicebanks sing in English is a pain in the ass. With Teto having multilang support now that barrier is broken.

 No.4512

>>4511
Yeah the barrier has always been how linguistically complicated English is. I look at the phoneme codes Vocaloid has (Q? V?) and smh

 No.4514

>>4512
It's not just that. Before SynthV existed people used English versions of voicebanks that were already popular in Japan such as Luka, Gumi and Miku instead of Big AL, Sonika, Tonio, etc because let's face it everybody knows who Miku is but ask a Vocaloid fan who Big AL is and they probably have no idea. So SynthV having multilanguage support and Teto being the most popular voicebank in Japan on top of SV itself being cheaper than V6 means a lot of Western producers were able to buy Teto and put her in their songs.

 No.4515

>>4511
I actually enjoy making JP Vocaloids sing in English, but UTAUs are a pain without extra phonemes.
Part of why I make so many cover and so few originals is because the practice of converting phonemes and tuning is fun to me but I never learned proper music theory and am a perfectionist with melodies, so what I put out is usually the result of a long struggle.

 No.11411

>>11410
are what a thing? english vocaloids?
they have been existed for as long as vocaloid itself. all loids are paid, so your best bet is utau.

have existed* fucking typo

 No.11418

If you're willing to pirate, Big Al is pretty easy to use. If you're not, UTAU is what you should probably be using.

Sonika is easy to use too but half of the community will try to convince you she's not

 No.11422

>>11419
Sonika's biggest issue is most people in the Western community don't know how to make her voice clear or struggle with her accent. Tonio is about the same difficulty for the same reason. At least she doesn't have broken phonemes that crash, like him, or phoneme cracks like Gumi English and Yohioloid.

>Sonika's biggest issue is being British
yeah

Is Eclipsed Sounds carrying the engloid community at this point? Their banks aren't crazy popular or anything, but they're still releasing regularly and drawing in big names

 No.11627

>>11626
yeah without maghni ai it's pretty much over for the classic engloids

 No.11712

>>11626
As far as i know they're the only Engloid company now ever since PFX shut down. And I know Vocatone owns the rights to their voicebanks + are working on Maghni but ever since that blogpost it feels like the chances of it releasing are low. Still I hope that the Vocatone team are able to push forward and get it out there.

That being said PFX is dead, ZG is dead and Yamaha still makes stuff but it's very low quality compared to Cyber Diva and Songman.

Is Maika even considered an Engloid? She's in a few English songs but she's one of the few Spanish vocaloids.

Great news if true. I don't mind songs like Mimukauwa existing but voicebanks that sample real life children should not exist.

reminder that vocaloid was intended to be used by professional producers before otaku culture claimed it. someone's first time hearing a vocaloid song was probably this.

So, after 2 whole decades, have any of the unknown Engloid voice providers been revealed/found? I was reading an archived VO discussion yesterday about Sweet Ann possibly being Jody Martin, but I don't think it sounds like her at all. Out of the PFXloids i know that AL has been found: https://soundcloud.com/franksanderson1

Aside from the cancelled V4 Sonika bank, which was voiced by the utaite Rachie, not really. I'd imagine it'd be hard to identify vocalists like Prima and Tonio's VPs, and in the case of Sonika i'm like 90% sure the voice provider was probably just a friend of one of the developers.
