No.13618
>>13130I honestly had no idea they even existed. I thought Zero-G had stopped making 'loids after Vocaloid 3.
No.13619
>>13617reminder that vocaloid was intended to be used by professional producers before otaku culture claimed it. someone's first time hearing a vocaloid song was probably this.

Eclipsed Sounds VBs need more moe
No.13723
>>13672She's not moe at all, but the fandom draws her as such
The same happens with Sonika who canonically looks like this

Who would the "hatsune miku" of engloids be?
No.16494
>>16489Popularity: Teto (or Eleanor, if you mean EN only)
Concept: Sonika
Sound: Literally just EN Miku, lol
No.17904
>>17903Aside from the cancelled V4 Sonika bank, which was voiced by the utaite Rachie, not really. I'd imagine it'd be hard to identify vocalists like Prima and Tonio's VPs, and in the case of Sonika i'm like 90% sure the voice provider was probably just a friend of one of the developers.
No.17908
>>17907I'd be willing to believe it based on the fact that the OP is a father but anyone can just lie on the internet, especially Reddit
No.17910
>>17908This guy isn't active in the Vocaloid community either so it would be a pretty random thing to lie about

If you want to take a trip down memory lane here's an old Wordpress blog about Engloids (last updated in 2010)
https://engloids.wordpress.com/Lots of interesting stuff there
No.18504
>>17907I messaged the guy. I'll try to arrange a short interview and if all goes well you should be seeing a thread about it in the future.

No.18524
>>18504Good luck. My question for Prima's VP is if she writes back if she's aware of the fan designs and if so which is her favorite.
No.21193
>>21191I have a weird relationship with Tw Prima. I absolutely love her design but i dislike it as a Prima design and think Primina suits her better.

Do people ITT who want these old voicebanks to come back just want their favorite character back or do they actually care about the voice too?
No.26722
>>26721It's voice and character for me but mostly voice considering a lot of the Engloids from the V2 era didn't even have a design.
Now if they brought the characters back but with a new VP I wouldn't complain but I would still have mixed feelings. Maghni already brought back Oliver with a new VP and while I'm not exactly fond of the American accent (Oliver is meant to be a Brit) the voice is similar enough for it to not completely bother me. Ann and AL were rumored to have been recast for Maghni as well (and not by Michael King unfortunately) but since they never revealed anything beyond a silhouette I can't really form an opinion.
Sonika V4 as Rachie would've been weird but interesting to see. Again, Sonika is canonically meant to be a Brit like Oliver and Rachie is Indonesian plus her voice is very different from Sonika V2's so I don't know how that would've worked.
Regardless, I likely wouldn't have minded it, I've wanted a Sonika update for ages now.
No.26729
>>26722God, same. Sonika was meant to be to the US/UK market what Hatsune Miku was to the Japanese one and it really bothers me that she never had her chance to shine. Imagine what the mid-late 2010's Western scene would've been had that V4 voicebank released.
No.26787
>>26729>>26722I don't think it was entirely Yamaha's fault that Sonika flopped.
Zero-G just kinda failed at attracting the Otaku crowd by using that League of Legends-esque design instead of something moe like the Taiwan / China re-releases. She's also very hard to use.
No.26800
>>26787Imagine if Sonika succeeded and there was a popular engloid community where everything looked like Overwatch
No.26801
>>26800Wouldn't happen because Vocaloid fans have been complaining about non-anime designs for ages. Remember when Clara and Bruno had to be redesigned because they looked like gta characters?.
No.26805
>>26800People would still draw her in the anime style
No.26806
>>26804You mean like actual, professional producers? The non otaku type?
No.26807
>>26804Ruby was PFX not Zero-G. Also god I remember that design.
No.26809
>>26806That was the old Engloid target audience, but hear me out: If Sonika was supposed to be the western Miku, maybe they thought the western equivalent to otaku marketing was selling to musicians who are gamers. It would be wrong, but it would explain why she looked like that.
No.26823
>>26804I don't think much would have changed even if Sonika was a total success. At best she'd be what Gumi was in the 2010s.

The funny thing is we did get an English equivalent to Miku and it was Eleanor Forte but then she got pseudo-discontinued
No.27471
>>27468Eleanor wasn't made for the fandom like Sonika though. I heard that someone just slapped an anime girl on a random female voicebank.
No.27475
>>27471Whoever told you this is straight lying because she was fully intended to target the fans lol
Kanru literally formant shifted her voice to ensure this on top of the anime style avatar for her.
No.27476
>>27468I wish people treated Eleanor like the posterchild of English vocal synths :( She'll always be that way in my heart even if that pipedream was doomed by her shitty SV2 release and lack of accessible commercial license on her OG release
No.27489
>>27488I wouldn't count that as a SV2 voicebank, it's just SV1 running on a new version of the engine.
>I don't think they've announced a proper update.Wish they did.
