Honestly would've expected this to happen to Miriam first, especially out of all the v1 voices too.
Even if the theory’s true, it doesn’t automatically mean trouble with Crypton. There's always been wiggle room for different takes from the same VP (Tone Rion and Nemu) or the same voice with optimizations built for different engines (Tsuina’s V6 and Una's Sugar and Spicy VBs, versus both of their SynthVs). To say nothing of countless UTAU voice providers who switch over to a different character once they're on a commercial engine.
Like >27203 asked, if it's not advertised as Kaito and it doesn't serve the same niche as Kaito (Shun being more realistic AND oriented to a specific genre), could it still even be considered Kaito from a legal/commerce standpoint? Kaito, officially, still sounds very mechanical, and I don't typically see producers push him to the absolute limits of his range like that.
The hilarity of this situation by itself makes me seriously consider getting Shun. Doesn't matter to me if he’s Kaito or not, I already like some of the other kinda-theatrical voices (Lang Chuan, Solaria, etc.) on SynthV to begin with. If anything, this just gives me inspiration to do stuff with him, and with the letter vocalists, you need all of that you can get.

He’s also still seeing frequent work in the industry. For all we know, he’s going to a recording studio for something else.
Idk about you but 2 months is a credibly short time to develop a commercial voicebank. Considering everything the teams been working on, I want to say if anything, the recordings were likely done between December and January. Not saying a team can’t make a bank in that short a time, it’s more so just the fact that there’s different standards and practices that come to mind in terms of commercial developments.
There’s a lot of other factors against the possibility of him voicing the character, but the main thing to really consider is that we have an alternative available which is nice to have.
