I had a similiar misconception that rin and len were siblings, given the designs and the fact they share the same last name (atleast i think kagamine is supposed to be a last name).

god, that feels weird
a lot of art does end up using the same colors on both though, even officially licensed stuff (eg, the models in Project Diva have them use the same colors)

Aren't they like "reflections of the same person" or something?
In practice, they do end up basically being siblings.

on a somewhat non-vocaloid note, I didn't realize Mimi and Nyami from Pop'n Music weren't sisters (admittedly, how would that work for a cat and a rabbit, no matter how identical they look otherwise) lenshock

they are mirror images of eachother yes, iirc they were designed as siblings but that idea was dropped when they actually released them. The Append versions are apparently 2 halves sharing one soul with this weird symbolism in the box art so.. like you said theyre practically siblings/twins

The amount of misconceptions and false information I’ve encountered in my 16 years of being a Vocaloid fan is a doozy. Idk if I have any Mandela effects but like, a huge amount of the western misconceptions are 100% because a lot of people used google translate and while it has gotten much better in recent years, there’s a reason it had the reputation it did.

this kind of thing used to be pretty common, not just for vocaloid but fandoms in general and especially fan wikis
you'd also find people giving characters "full" names if their name could possibly be a shortened form of something else, even if that was meant to be their full name
