Does the average Vocaloid listener still care about albums? Is it even worth releasing one as an English VocaP these days or should I stick to singles?

Pic semi unrelated

 No.24369

The average listener mostly sticks to whatever's in the top 50 on https://vocaloard.injpok.tokyo/en/. The people who care about albums are mosly "music guys". The type that browses BestEverAlbums, AOTY and RateYourMusic and probably collects CDs or Vinyls. That's how Mikgazer Vol.1 got so popular if I'm not mistaken because I hadn't heard anyone talk about it in the early to mid 2010's.

i almost exclusively listen to albums. im not going through and individually listening to a million singles. i also mostly listen to whatever i can download.

Nice, there used to be a time when I would go through Vocaloid uploaders' folders on Soulseek to discover obscure albums. I used to do the same with Denpa albums.

I listen to comps from time to time

This is a great way to spend a weekend. I also like to buy random albums from producers I like, burn them onto CDs and then listen in the car.

if my car had a cd player i would 100% be doing this. right now i just have a 64 gb sd card in my phone with bargain bin cd rips and occasional digital purchases (and "acquisitions")

Does your car radio not have an USB port?

 No.24391

>>24389
it does have one. why do you ask?

You could put the albums in separate folders and load them via USB stick

 No.24394

>>24392
i did not know the car could do that. i usually just play the albums using vlc on my phone through bluetooth. (aux cord broke) all my usb sticks have lower storage capacity compared to my sd card, so i generally dont bother with them for music storage

You can also use it to charge your phone lol

You can actually get relatively low cost CD players for cars that don't have to be installed and just plug into the USB port apparently. I would advise against plugging the phone into the USB port. Cars are surveillance devices these days and it will sell your personal data.

cmon man i knew that much. i had just never considered thinking of the car screen as something capable of playing back files by itself.
>>24396
i did not know those worked with cars. i already do not use the usb port because android auto pisses me off.

 No.24398

I assume they have to be specifically made for cars since they need the right software to be recognized by the car but actually now you mention it maybe even a normal computer one would work since technically cars are just computers on wheels these days so maybe? I am not sure though.

Recent namitape album is very good

 No.24404

It’s more just all music in general but album sales just don’t make money. There are those who still buy CDs and vinyls of course but streaming killed a lot of the industry. Majority of money is made through concerts. Admittedly the vsynth community is much more album purchase driven than the rest of the world but even so the majority of those buying CDs are those who attend events like Magical Mirai and Vocaloid master in Japan.

Too bad it seems like Bandcamp has not really caught off much with enough musicians.

The average Vocaloid listener is not a great measuring stick. As long as Vomas, M3, Creator Cross, Comiket, and a bundle of other smaller events exist, albums are a valuable format that dedicated listeners pay attention to. Bandcamp and Booth are also places people go specifically to buy Vocaloid albums digitally. That's more than you can say for a lot of other popular music.

The way the second question is phrased suggests aiming for notoriety. If that's the goal, and you don't have a concept that would tie an album together, then there's nothing wrong sticking to singles either. Take either approach with the understanding that PVs are ultimately what make songs go viral.

I've seen a couple english speaking producers use it

>Does the average Vocaloid listener still care about albums?
Recommendation algorithms on music streaming platforms prioritize songs, so if someone is listening to albums, of any kind of music, they are actively seeking them out. Vocaloid is niche, so fans often have to specifically search for music, but as a subculture, it is very visual and character driven, so music videos and character compilation albums tend to receive more attention.
>Is it even worth releasing one as an English VocaP these days or should I stick to singles?
Albums are an artistic medium, not just a collection of songs. I don't really know how financially viable it is, but artistically, it really depends on whether you believe that you can express something with an album, that you could not as a bunch of singles.

I don't know why that was spoilered. I clicked the drop down menu, but left it blank.
