I mean we already had a movie last year, though it is more about the Project Sekai cast than Miku or the Cryptonloids themselves
But what about an anime series? Do you think that would work and would you like it if that happened? I think that the Project Sekai movie proved that it is possible after all

 No.20832

Idk but if gumi was in it i'd watch it

 No.20852

If IA is in it I will watch

 No.20872

Get in the robot Miku.

The reason why you'll never see a proper vocaloid anime or movie is because there simply is no need to make it. You'll often hear people spouting nonsense such as "they don't want to ruin the blank template the characters have" but the real reason primarily boils down to the fact that most serialized anime series in Japan is only ever made with the idea that it should largely serve as a promotion/advertisement for merchandise and other media (video games). Even though a Vocaloid anime would be extremely successful and is seemingly a no-brainer (given the demand it has had and will continue to have) there is simply no reason to make one as Vocaloid is already extremely successful in the merchandise department and something like hatsune miku is already a global icon that has probably generated billions of dollars alone. It's why they had to revitalize Dragon Ball 3 seperate times (GT, Kai, Super) in order to make more money from merchandise and create a new generation of fans. Vocaloid simply doesn't have this issue.

I wouldn't count the movie from last year as a vocaloid movie, its a project sekai (gacha kuso) movie with miku tacked on to drag the plot forward. IIRC she has about 17 minutes of screentime and the film itself definitely wasn't made because the project sekai plot is so extremely deep and interesting that it required an entire animated film to tell a chapter in it.

I'd like to be wrong about this and they announce a slice of life vocaloid anime tomorrow based on popular headcanon for the characters (or something original entirely) but that's never gonna happen.

Yeah pretty much this, and if they actually do an anime it'd probably be based on Project Sekai because it's what sells.

And I sadly don't care enough about Project Sekai to watch a movie or anime about it despite being a massive Mikufag.

A shitpost "anime" from the 2007 fandom that jpbros are nostalgic about. Mitchie M called it his favorite Vocaloid thing once.

kek this released on dvd?

 No.20970

We have Zunda Horizon and it’s upcoming sequel as well. That being said, even if made there will likely never be 1 definitive Vocaloid anime.

If anything I think the best case scenario would be that people take notes from Touhou fans books and create doujin Vocaloid anime. Vocaloid is already a prominent doujin community after all.

 No.20973

>>20970
I guess you could say that Zunda horizon 2 is on the horizon

 No.20978

>>20969
On a major Vocaloid label no less. It is, weirdly enough, the only Vocaloid doujin anime that made it over the finish line. So many people wanted to make a proper one, and the closest we ever got was the cancelled Evillious OVA.

We need Hitoshizukukino

Project Sekai is it's own original thing with vocaloid tacked on (literally in the name). I personally think it sucks and the fact it pretty much filled the void of "vocaloid game" in the eyes of Sega fills me with dread. Project Sekai fans aren't even considered as vocaloid fans in some places LOL.

I think realistically though the only hope for a proper anime would be if a western streaming company such as Netflix commissioned one, even then the chances are slim to none

>Project Sekai fans aren't even considered as vocaloid fans in some places
That's why PJSK discussion is banned on /leek/ lol

 No.21046

Honestly, the Project Sekai movie is the best you're gonna get if you want Vocaloid explicitly.
>>21024
Speaking of Netflix, they released a movie called Cosmic Princess Kaguya that is a homage to Vocaloid culture so perhaps that could fit somehow? I haven't watched the movie yet so I can't say if I recommend it or not, but that movie is the reason why ryo released that melt remix.

 No.21050

>>21046
>homage to Vocaloid culture
It really isn't. There are a lot of competing elements and Vocaloid music happens to one of the more prominent pieces, mostly because it is such a strong lever for promotion. There are some people calling it a "Vocaloid movie" but the idol and metaverse elements are overriding and most Japanese fans seem to side eye the label.

 No.21051

>>21050
I remember people talking about this on jaypee when it came out but does Miku even appear in the movie at all? I haven't watched it, and frankly I don't plan on doing so if none of the cryptonloids physically appear in it.

 No.21052

>>21051
Yachiyo is a very Miku-like figure, and she's clearly established with that aura, but no Vocaloid characters. It's still a technically incredible movie, so I do recommend people give it a look at least, but you might also need to be in a very specific demographic strike zone for it resonate. 140 minutes is also a long runtime when it ends up dragged by a lot of the metaverse elements (there's a battle arena segment around the middle that probably should have been cut entirely).

For a sec i thought you were saying that the project sekai film is the best vocaloid related film and i was so ready to disagree. CPK is way better even if it's not directly about vocaloid.

 No.21059

I'm gonna be honest with you I don't know much about CPK beyond the Melt remix. Maybe I'll give it a watch when I'm free.

>Speaking of Netflix, they released a movie called Cosmic Princess Kaguya that is a homage to Vocaloid culture so perhaps that could fit somehow?

I wouldn't say it's a vocaloid movie although if youre starving for something like it then it could probably fill that void, might as well be one in comparison to the project sekai one. Maybe if its successful enough Netflix might actually try to get a real vocaloid movie/anime made but I severely doubt it >_<

 No.21067

Anime is nice and all but what is there to talk about? Commercials probably make more sense.

Highly unlikely but if a Vocaloid movie or show does come out I won't be complaining. I'd imagine it's hard to write a film about a music scene though. (´・ω・`)

 No.24255

While i wouldnt be mad if they make a movie or anime about Vocaloid i think i'd much rather see a Vocaloid documentary because there's so much to it. From its origins as a NicoNico meme to a whole fandom and the influence it has had on modern music (especially J-pop). There's a lot you could say about Vocaloid itself.

 No.24346

>>24250
If they were to ever make a vocaloid anime/movie they would probably make it a slice of life comedy series with the characters being musicians as the focus; its the easiest thing to make and would probably be enjoyed by everyone in the fandom if it was competently written.

Although a more avant-garde/psychological movie with (for example) Miku being the main character would also probably work. Id imagine it would be some kind of plot exploring what it means to be human which would be an easy home run given what miku is and what kind of visuals you could pull off with it.

>>24255
I wouldve assumed there were dozens of documentaries by now, are there really no interesting ones?

I’ve never been one for Vocaloid animated media but this sounds immensely cool.

>dozens of documentaries
Depends how loosely you define documentary, but there are tons of documentary style explorations from NHK alone. This one is from 2022 and there was a shorter thing in 2025. https://www.crunchyroll.com/news/latest/2022/2/20/hatsune-miku-gets-her-own-professional-nhk-documentary
It was a big-ish deal I felt when Mikumentary came out because it got screened in part at SXSW. https://www.youtube.com/@Mikumentary/videos
Plenty from 39ch too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0N9szI19BA
English approaches are generally lacking because they are entirely too focused on the concerts and holograms. Things haven't changed that much, I guess.

 No.24423

>>24347
it would be extremely tuff but i severely doubt we'll ever see any real animated vocaloid media in our lifetimes let alone something more deep and interesting like that :(

>>24410
I think its because outside of Hatsune Miku (as a cultural icon) alot of vocaloid stuff didnt really catch on in the west. I assume in Japan and in niche western circles it more or less represents a bastion of creativity, which is obviously a super interesting documentary topic but i doubt that side of the community is as well known about in comparison to "blue anime girl singing" leading to no western documentaries about it

 No.24441

>>24423
I do think we'll see animated Vocaloid stuff but unofficial. Wasn't someone making a series based on Mesmerizer a while back?.

 No.24745

Vocaloid is one of those things that will probably get a fanmade anime like Touhou did years ago
