 No.20450

Cute promo image.

>a gathering of vocal synth enjoyers

Has it really gotten to a point everything is meme speak? Nothing wrong with the term "fan".

 No.20451

>>20450
People used 'enjoyer' before it was a meme but i get your point, fan rolls off the tongue better

 No.20453

>>20451
Yeah though it was used more naturally in a sentence. It sounds quite odd sometimes how it is used now and yeah "fan" is just smoother to say.

 No.20454

How long has this been a thing for? Because i recall hearing about Vocagathering a couple years back or maybe it was last year. I didn't know what it was and assumed it was an Eleanor Forte event for whatever reason. I'll probably make something for it next year i like the idea.

 No.20456

>>20451
I mean it's not particularly wrong
Enjoyer just means you enjoy something

Did any of /leek/'s VocaP's join?

 No.20644

Not really, had i known the date beforehand i would've made something but i'll have to wait til next year

 No.20645

>>20644
hey meat this is probably the only chance i'll have to ask this so what vocap's influence you (and non-vocaloid artists if any)

 No.20648

>>20645
I don't have a definitive answer but i've been listening to Qu-P, dead space cadets, rusino, beat_shobon and MonochroMenace recently
>and non-vocaloid artists
Same as above but Café Tacvba, Sneaker Pimps, Antihoney, Kanye West, ROUND TABLE, etc to name a few

 No.20653

>>20643
I would, but what I'm working on is nowhere near done and wouldn't qualify on a technicality since I composed the base melody in 2020 and foolishly released an ancient version in 2021. Still, the instrumental (6 minutes long!) is finally done though I may revise it later, now I just have to think up the lyrics. Which might take me awhile admittedly, then I have to work on the PV and draw. This time I want it to ACTUALLY LOOK GOOD.
As for the vocalist, I'm torn between a few, but definitely either Yohioloid, Kiyoteru, HXVOC, or a whotau.

This is actually quite different from what I usually make, but I'm glad you like it regardless!

 No.20731

Are you only able to vote on the discovery page?

 No.20738

>>20731
Yeah, I plan to mention that they need to put another way to vote on the site when the feedback survey goes up. The number of songs submitted this year is 3x last year's already. The discovery page also seems to have some sort of caching problems because some people have reported not seeing a select amount of songs in it either.

 No.20740

>>20738
That does seem to be an issue since if you heard it outside the site then you can't just find the song and vote for it. Though I suppose it is possible it is done this way in attempt to avoid people trying to use social media to ask for votes. Im not sure.

 No.20741

>>20740
I assumed they did that to prevent vote rigging

 No.20757

>>20741
You can only vote once so there’s already something in place.

Honestly, I was pretty disappointed by many songs this year, but here's a few that stood out.
https://youtu.be/Mokev46ZjKQ?si=xda8GmOrWnv9MuIA
Just Spiraling - K.A.I.N. ft. Teto & Yi Xi
https://youtu.be/hpmhAmzoWjs?si=RJoy0thIGtvZRfHP
The Highlander - StardustLegend ft. Solaria
https://youtu.be/kx0AGRLV89Y?si=T9EcAZVYUTsbaGf5
Saints of Sacrilege - Rai ft. Yi Xi
https://youtu.be/jAb04wkRTa4?si=OlmXlZkwMlPfAuEe
New_Project (Roots of Sidr) - Carbon Monoxide & RIProducer ft. Solaria
https://youtu.be/z5CerLxBIkI?si=ulY5ap6meUX02JWX
Can You Stand It? - Undecided ft. Solaria & Saros
https://youtu.be/-xm61Z8zER0?si=yLf-gu8YL2_hjIR-
Stickman - Takoyaki Donuts ft. Utatane Piko
I've only seen a couple songs using Vocaloid, but outside of TD's Stickman, they either weren't mixed well, or circumstances put a bad taste in my mouth. Still, they work as honorable mentions.
https://youtu.be/4-QtK09Lfdk?si=RgzbZgpNvb21wz2l
Feedback - MonochroMenace ft. Megurine Luka (This one actively makes me mad despite liking the song because it comes off like cheating, only allowed to submit due to a loophole)
https://youtu.be/Ff_ppNRkcMo?si=-nCH9F9gyY6gaTOU
Exist - Null Akuma-P ft. Utatane Piko (Probably my favorite type of Vocaloid song, however the mixing leaves a LOT to be desired. Still, the melody is really good)

 No.20806

>>20803
>only allowed to submit due to a loophole
And it was made by a huge producer too.

I'm not saying big producers shouldn't be able to submit but when the idea of the event is having small producers be noticed it becomes a problem.

>>20806
A whoducer still won tho

 No.20808

>>20806
It's a very aggravating part of the rules that was overlooked. Next year I hope they have separate categories for big & small producers, or at the very least have either a time limit on submission start times or a ban on submitting anything from another contest as a way to prevent this from happening a third time in a row.
>>20807
Still got second place, which is very aggravating but better than last year. I actually haven't heard the number one song, good for that producer though.

 No.20809

I thought the winning song was good but I don't know if I'd call the producer a whoducer, their most popular song has 1M and they've collaborated with another big producer on a cover.

That being said though my actual favorite song this year was Gaizer's. It feels like the EN scene's take on 2010's J-rock and I love that about it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mytsiZFwBtI

 No.20810

>>20809
Second favorite was Stickman. Not /leek/ducer bias, I just love 80's post-punk and this song sounds a lot like it.

 No.20812

>Russian Roulette
This is actually pretty good and I'm glad a Teto song didn't win, even if my favorite song was easily Just Spiraling this time around.
>Girl Failure
The instrumental is fine but honestly I hate the tuning. I do have a negative personal bias though so YMMV

 No.20813

I know some of the VG team so I could forward this to them, though at this point i feel like they're already aware since everyone complained about it

>Nobody used Big Al
>Nobody used Galaco
>1 person used Miki (and probably just her SV)
>2 people used HXVOC
I really should have worked on a submission so I could use one of my many wholoids. Perhaps several.

 No.20820

>>20819
You're gonna have to wait til next year, unless they do another this year which I really doubt

 No.20821

Have you ever collaborated with any of the VocaP's you listed or have any plans to collab?

 No.20822

>>20821
I'm mutuals with one of them and the rest I've never interacted with. I'd love to, but I don't see it as a possiblity at the moment. I don't think they're even aware of my existence honestly.

 No.20823

>>20820
I know, ironically that's probably how long it will take for me to make something passable. Rarely it'll take me a month or less, but on average my originals take a year for me to make.

 No.20824

Haven't seen anyone post this one, it's really good and features the best version of Neru (the Rin variant).

 No.20826

There's two Nurse Robot submissions. Which is not a lot but I like that we're slowly starting to get more English originals with her.

Ahh, so this is why people were mad at MonochroMenace?

 No.20833

>>20831
Yeah, technically speaking she didn't break any rules, but she ABSOLUTELY went out of her way to get as close to breaking them as possible.

 No.20835

 No.20836

>>20833
What rules are we talking about? I’m not seeing anything that would signal a loophole or nearly breaking anything.

 No.20837

>>20836
Basically, people are mad because she clearly made the song way in advance for Miku Expo, then when it didn't win, she submitted it for VocaGathering. She still posted the song earlier, but it wasn't to YouTube so it technically didn't violate the rules.

 No.20838

Guess i'll start working on my entry right now, then wait for next year's vocagathering

 No.20839

This was one of my favorites but I'm not sure if it was part of VocaGathering or it just happened to be posted around the same time VocaGathering started

 No.20840

>>20806
I didn't really care for the popular producers winning either year, but it's just what normally happens with rankings. Vocacolle is usually dominated by the same 20-ish popular producers, too.

Lily is dead, dude

 No.20857

>>20848
No, it's definitely happening, but i don't think it's a problem exclusive to the English community. It's true that ENs have a preference for the red menace but plenty of JPs do too. If it's not Teto, it's Miku, and if it's not Miku then it's Rei.

I have no idea how Yi Xi made it this high as a faceless vocal but good for her.

NTA, but I prefer making Japanese banks sing in English most of the time, very few are actually that painful unless it's a V2. Piko, ironically, is one of the easiest.
Switched to PC just to show some screenshots of the method I use for it, in order to make the consonants stronger.
The [M_0] phoneme is extremely important for making JPloids sing in English.

 No.20864

 No.20865

>[M_0]
what does it do

 No.20868

>>20865
It's basically a silent "M" that forces Japanese Vocaloids to enunciate a consonant they normally can't on its own. While it works back to V2 voicebanks, the earliest editor it works in is V4.

 No.20898

>>20837
This is a thing multiple people did though. I’m not sure why Menace is being singled out. I believe even TD mentioned on Twitter her song was a year or two old.

 No.20903

>>20898
The biggest problem people have is that she submitted it to Miku Expo first. I personally like her music and don't want to judge her too harshly but that's not a good decision to make for sure.

 No.20905

Not defending Menace although I like her music but I don't get why people act like FEEDBACK being #2 means that those smaller producers got no attention. The site has a bunch of pages to discover new music and the Vocagathering hashtag helps too.

 No.20919

Bullshit aside i really liked Feedback even if it was cheating. I'm personally more disappointed that it didn't win Mikuexpo.

 No.20952

>>20857
Now that i think about it i feel like the reason Yi Xi has blown up this much is due to Butcher Vanity and Vimalion but also Roblox as weird as that sounds, because I was told that they added a skin based on the music video and the kids seem to like it
