Wait what's this thread for if we have a bunch of music threads already? VocaDB discussion?

I should probably explain myself. I've been listening to songs posted in the threads linked in the OP because I wanted to find music that I really like and that I haven't heard before; I use VocaDB and RYM for the same purpose. I made this thread because I realized that there wasn't really anywhere for me to talk about this outside of the Vocaloid General.
Right now I'm relistening to the top scoring songs on VocaDB, trying to get a feel for what kinds of music that I enjoy, and figuring out where I should look for new music next.

Assuming this is the right thread to discuss this, does anybody know why the site MikuDB hasn't been touched in about two years now? It was the go-to database for Vocaloid albums for years

I think VocaDB users in aggregate have pretty good taste (certainly better than total song views on video platforms) but I do find myself disagreeing with the rankings a lot. Covers tend to receive little attention, and when they do I often don't agree their placement (I prefer the original Electric Angel and Song of the Eared Robot, over Giga's version and Machine Love, respectively [though the later is technically not cover]). And while cannot expect to agree with every song/album rating, I think a major problem lies in the scoring system.
Liking a song increases its score by 2, and favoriting a song increases its score by 3, with no way to contribute a negative score. This means that popular songs that more overall users like will score higher than songs that a larger proportion of users like but that are more obscure. Albums do have star ratings, but sorting by rating average does not take the total number of ratings into account, and total score only sorts by popularity; you cannot sort by both at the same time.
Rate Your Music also suffers from similar problems, where there is a massive gulf between albums that have thousands of ratings and those with almost none. However, RYM lets users rate albums with a five star system, with a sorting algorithm that balances the star rating with the total number of ratings, so albums need a high star rating with enough total ratings to appear at the top of the list.
What I'm looking for is a user rated list of songs where the general consensus is that they are good, not just popular; problems aside, after adding the song charts, RYM more or less provides this, just not for vocal-synth music for some reason.
https://rateyourmusic.com/charts/top/song/all-time/g:vocaloid%2dscene/(The list is empty for me.)

>>18344I checked the GitHub again, and it looks like the site's being worked on now, so hopefully soon it will stay up consistently. At least we know the site is definitely not dead.
No.19037
>>19023I'm a fan of their rating system but RYM has this issue where people who don't typically listen to Vocaloid will rate a Vocaloid song and it ends up with a rating under 3 as a result.

Is there a good reason that both producers and voicebanks are in the artist category on VocaDB? I know that releases will often credit the vocalsynths that were used, but it seems incredibly weird to me to combine them together for a database.

Do any of you still use NND to discover new music? I know it was very common before everyone started uploaing on youtube but there are still songs that are exclusive to NND

On VocaDB, is there any way to view alternative versions of a song in the main search engine and not as a list on the original song page? The closest I can think of is to search for the song name, but the results vary by what language you use, and it doesn't show everything.
