Any clue if pjdf is moddable? i can't afford megamix and i've heard bad things about it anyway
No.1485

also, check out pjd f megamix edition. very good mod, shame there hasn't been any recent updates though

I really should play more PDMM+ again, I fired it up for the first time in months and had a go.
I have a homebuilt controller that I made for other games that ended up working weirdly well for arcade PD since it has two joysticks and 4 buttons lined in a row. It felt extremely cool going to the arcade and actually being used to the layout.

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1O6y4_5ynYXFLa_axoFiwI8Evh0Gur6M3 (The gamebanana page requires a login, so I'm just posting the actual download link)
Straight ports of the Diva X setlist.
Project Megpoid:
https://gamebanana.com/mods/524092Nice fully custom PVs and the charts are fun, but the songs are the really short cuts from Gumi's game, and there's only four available right now. It's apparently not dead but progress is slow.
https://gamebanana.com/mods/524799https://gamebanana.com/mods/533485Some edit mode ports in both of these. Haven't played them thoroughly, no guarantee of quality.
https://gamebanana.com/mods/478651Part of Project EDEN which might be a point of contention for some people. I haven't had any issues with it personally.

No.2846
>>2829f and f2nd are easy compared to megamix. maybe that's because i play a lot of the former than the latter but really, you don't have the slider and quadruple note shit that needs macros or whatever. long notes also actually make sense
No.2848

f and F2nd are really, really, really easy compared to Megamix.
No.2849
>>2846>>2848In F/F2nd i couldn't even get past 30 seconds of a song in Hard yet in Megamix it's the only difficulty i play in and i've been able to get Great's.

No.2876
>>2849It's probably due to the way the charting is handled for hard between the two - Megamix style PD charts tend to use long streams of the same button in hard, while f/F2nd charts do quite a bit of button switching. The Megamix charts might be denser, but they're easier to read at this level.
However, extreme is a whole different ballgame and while F2nd hard might prepare you for its extreme, Megamix hard does not do so whatsoever for Megamix extreme.
No.2878
>>2876Megamix instead wants you to learn Extreme by starting from the lower difficulty rating songs and working up. It's less convenient but in the end I think it's the better approach, you actually feel like you're learning and applying fundamentals as you get better rather than just memorizing each chart.
No.2879
Doesn't F2nd have more mechanics than Megamix?
No.2892
Do you guys use keybinds for double notes?

I'm surprised there aren't more Sekai -> Diva ports like that Meiko song mod that was poster earlier in the thread. One of the biggest complaints people have about Sekai is that it doesn't play like Diva so modding Sekai songs in would probably make it more tolerable to Diva players.
No.3016
>>3010eden has two packs consisted of only 3DPVs. as long as you get the regular edit mode pv requirements they should work, at least from personal experience. i don't remember if the masochist pack has hard charts, though. other than that,

No.3413
>>3393that's the most fun part about diva for me. the unique gameplay and the temporary high you get from beating a song in a high difficulty.
i tried getting into sekai but it just feels like piano tiles to me.
No.3416
Does anybody else have this issue where they do well at fast songs but terrible at slow songs?
No.3417
>>3416Slow songs can be oddly difficult, and I think part of it is the slower note speed. The timing is a bit harder to passively gauge when they take so long to get to their targets, so I find I have to watch them more closely compared to faster songs.
I also find that each note in a song acts as a bit of a "reference" to the timing of the next note, so on slower songs where the notes are more spread out, they don't do that as well. Hopefully that makes sense…it's a bit hard to describe.
When I go for low fine count runs, I more often dread doing songs like Soundless Voice.
No.3422
this song hates me…
>>3416up to a point, faster note speed is easier to read
it feels weird playing Diva vs other rhythm games because it's basically one speed only
there is a high-speed option in MM+, but it's stupid fast even on slow songs and thus isn't for anything other than the challenge.
No.3423
>>3422At least you cleared it, i'm still here trying to git gud at extremes after getting a bunch of Excellents / Greats on Hard. Which song would you recommend to a newbie? (technically not a complete newbie i've been playing since the PS3 game came out but i've never been very good at it).
No.3425
>>3423Go in order of difficulty rating; get the ExPatch mod if you don't want to grind out everything on Hard first. If you're comfortable with Hard then 6-7.5* Extremes should be well within your reach.
No.3431
>>3423honestly?
just play in order, with preference to songs you like (since you will absolutely need to know them very well), and then grind out anything you can get to the end of but still don't pass on until you do
No.3435
Finally beat all of the base game songs on normal + a few on hard. Felt I was skilled enough and my autism satisfied enough now to try mods and downloaded some. Rip old save file

I backed up my old save prior to mods but I was level/rank 22. Hopefully the Eden Project charts aren't too tryhard on hard…
No.3438
>>3416Slow songs are surprisingly difficult. They test your patience and timing much more thoroughly than fast songs
No.3439
>>3413>>3393>>3372Project Diva works surprisingly well with a keyboard. The double notes are also much more intuitive than a controller. It’s like playing a piano and it’s so damn fun.
No.3441
>>3435Your old scores/save should still be there when you disable those mods. Btw I'd recommend Doatz song pack too for a good variety of well made charts.
Do most people here play with keyboard? I find it most fun to play on a DS4 controller.
No.3442
>>3439my layout is a dual arcade stick setup that ends up working really well for arcade style Diva
both of the sticks are swipe, while 4 buttons between the sticks are tri/squ/x/o
it does feel a little easier than at the arcade since the controls are way closer, but my time at home transfers over
the whole setup was built for games like smash TV and robotron and total carnage, but I've had success with using it for diva and groove coaster
No.3443
>>3441I play with keyboard because i found it easier than a controller. It doesn't register more than two notes at once for some reason so I have to use keybinds.
No.3445

>>3435you do not need eden core to play eden project mods, they're lying about the requirements.
>>3439i think the same! i thought i was insane about feeling like i'm playing a piano… hits specially hard when i play rolling girl on ex/exex imo, the piano breaks are so fun
No.3461
>>3454Farming perfect extremes and ex extremes are fun but time taking. Eventually I get to a point where I’m always consistently 90-95 percenting but I always screw up at the exact same moment.
No.3463
>>3462>and on extreme i usually get really tense and miss a note when i see i'm close to a full comboI think everyone knows this feel. I'll start noticing my breath, blinking manually, palms get sweaty…I spend a gross amount of time in practice mode for this reason, often running that last 20% or so of a song over and over until it feels like it's second nature.

part number cwb 401, $9 each
shipping is a killer from Korea though, but the buttons are way cheaper at $9 each and homebuild Pop'n players swear by them (I don't know anyone who homebuilt their own Diva controller)
No.3476
>>3475also, don't be tempted to get the Chinese IST buttons they offer - they do have Korean switches and proper springs for rhythm game use, but the buttons are just way worse made with much looser tolerances, so they don't feel great to play on
No.3477
>>3475I see, thanks for the recommendation. I've never modded arcade controllers before so I'm not sure if there's anything else I would need or is it just as easy as remove/change out buttons?
No.3478
>>3477they're drop in replacements for Sanwa buttons, so anything you'd need to put Sanwa buttons into the controller, you'd need for these
No.3480
>>3478Apparently you would have to mess around with some of the connectors too since the Hori buttons use 4 and Sanwa has 5. I kept searching and then found this, which uses toilet paper of all things, tried it, and it seems to have worked somehow. At the very least I'm not losing my holds randomly anymore. I still don't really like how the buttons feel compared to the Sanwa ones though so I might still look into changing them.

No.4694
>>4691Idk how to do that either tho 😭
No.4712
>>4693That's smart, I think macros are more helpful on controller anyways since you're using less fingers to hit all the buttons
>>4694>Idk how to do that either thoNp. Open the customize menu from the song list and go to Game/Control Config, each single and multi input can be assigned to two buttons.
If you're on controller, it's common to assign X○△□ to both L2 and R2 for hitting quad notes and extending/handing off holds.
Some beginners set L1 and R1 to X△□ and X○□ respectively since they are the common triples and often appear on the left and right sides of the screen like that.
△□ and X○ are the most common doubles, so many players put those on L1 and R1. Some songs require alternation between those two, matching the left two and right two buttons of the arcade layout. Almost every chart is manageable with that setup.
On paper, X△ and ○□ would be more logical since those are the only two doubles that you can't easily hit with one thumb on either side, but few songs require you to hit them very quickly. Helpful for charts like Gothic EXEX, or Black Gold EXEX if you don't want to adjust your grip.
PS4 players have the options to set inputs to more than two buttons, so you could map each L/R/1/2 to singles as well, shame the PC version doesn't have that option.
This video explains it all better and goes into details about using quads for holds, only slight differences on the PS4 version:
https://youtu.be/Kyxwkn3W0uc?si=ISr344H79Lbm0-Q4Even if you learn with macros, you'll learn how to hit all the multis naturally if you play long enough.
And uhh if you're on keyboard I don't really have any advice, gomen.

Get a mod loader (I used DivaModManager through Wine at first, but it got too unstable with a big mod list so I use Rust4Diva now) and use a recent version of ProtonGE (some mod songs I've come across have used some weird encoding for their PVs so they were all messed up until I updated) and you should be good to go. I won't shill practice mode too much harder but just remember it's there as you get into harder charts. I've spent about 3hrs practicing Rin-chan Now so far, splitting the song up into 4-5 segments. I find going for high scores way less frustrating when I bang out 95% of the work beforehand.
