I've been playing a lot of PJDF on RPCS3 recently

Does anybody know if saves from Project Diva F carry over to F2nd on console/emulator?

Project Diva X Initial D collab just happened and I'm not sure what this means for the series? Are we back or is this just copium?

this is insanely late, but yes, they probably will as long as they're the same region. if you have no luck you can probably find saves online that have F stuff

Any clue if pjdf is moddable? i can't afford megamix and i've heard bad things about it anyway

 No.1485

>>1484
you mean f? if yes then yeah, absolutely
there's a pjd-dedicated modding discord server, the folks there are really helpful, i don't think we can share invite links but just google it and it's the first thing that comes up
also, check out pjd f megamix edition. very good mod, shame there hasn't been any recent updates though

 No.2353

The guy who charted Negaposi*Continues was on crack. I've beaten plenty of songs in Hard but that specific one is impossible even in Normal.

So Project DIVA as a series is dead, but is there a chance we'll ever get another rhythm game featuring a Vocaloid character like Megpoid the Music?

That nyanyanyanya/nyan cat song's chart is bullshit but I cleared it on normal. I still got a lot to work on if I want to get to hard difficulty but im a bit worried because I play on steam deck and i really should play on a steam deck dock + controller so I don't break my steam deck's buttons.

Can you guys recommend me some MM+ packs or song mods that contain custom 3DPVs? I know they exist

 No.2658

I really should play more PDMM+ again, I fired it up for the first time in months and had a go.

I have a homebuilt controller that I made for other games that ended up working weirdly well for arcade PD since it has two joysticks and 4 buttons lined in a row. It felt extremely cool going to the arcade and actually being used to the layout.

but now I'm doing Extreme songs and I got to the end of Deep Sea City Underground with only a 66.48%…
absolutely need to grind it out

Project Diva X Song Pack: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1O6y4_5ynYXFLa_axoFiwI8Evh0Gur6M3 (The gamebanana page requires a login, so I'm just posting the actual download link)
Straight ports of the Diva X setlist.
Project Megpoid: https://gamebanana.com/mods/524092
Nice fully custom PVs and the charts are fun, but the songs are the really short cuts from Gumi's game, and there's only four available right now. It's apparently not dead but progress is slow.

https://gamebanana.com/mods/533485
Some edit mode ports in both of these. Haven't played them thoroughly, no guarantee of quality.

Big fan of the My Love is Hellfire mod. I hope people port more music/PVs from Project SEKAI to DIVA eventually. I can't stand SEKAI's generic gameplay.

 No.2872

The Rei module is very good

 No.2876

>>2849
It's probably due to the way the charting is handled for hard between the two - Megamix style PD charts tend to use long streams of the same button in hard, while f/F2nd charts do quite a bit of button switching. The Megamix charts might be denser, but they're easier to read at this level.

However, extreme is a whole different ballgame and while F2nd hard might prepare you for its extreme, Megamix hard does not do so whatsoever for Megamix extreme.

 No.2877

>>2850
it might be part of the pack?
https://gamebanana.com/mods/472805

 No.2878

>>2876
Megamix instead wants you to learn Extreme by starting from the lower difficulty rating songs and working up. It's less convenient but in the end I think it's the better approach, you actually feel like you're learning and applying fundamentals as you get better rather than just memorizing each chart.

 No.2879

Doesn't F2nd have more mechanics than Megamix?

 No.2880

Still have a few kinks to work out leading up to it, but it's such a satisfying finale to play.

 No.2892

Do you guys use keybinds for double notes?

definitely not just you, but people like us are in the minority. tbh keyboard is a lot easier on my wrists, and it's also much more simple for me keeping track of holds by properly holding them instead of using macros. wish i could afford an actual arcade styled controller someday though.

 No.3013

>>3010
This looks interesting although a bit sad there's no 3DPVs. Maybe I'm being a bit too picky but I think that second one is cool a lot because it has both vocaloid and synthv/utau/other vocal synths, same with the third. The first one I'm not too impressed by though because I want pure vocal synth stuff and not memey stuff like Baka Mitai

 No.3014

>>3013
There's an alternate version for the first pack that's just the synth songs.

 No.3015

I'm surprised there aren't more Sekai -> Diva ports like that Meiko song mod that was poster earlier in the thread. One of the biggest complaints people have about Sekai is that it doesn't play like Diva so modding Sekai songs in would probably make it more tolerable to Diva players.

 No.3016

honestly, for me it isn't as bad as some of the other extreme charts. after i got the gist of it it became one of my favorites! i think it was the second 10 star i cleared, two faced lovers is still the easiest 10 star though (i kinda think it could be a 9.5 but i get why it's not). when i got megamix i also though those charts were beyond my reach, but you'll be surprised how fast you can improve if you keep trying

 No.3413

>>3393
that's the most fun part about diva for me. the unique gameplay and the temporary high you get from beating a song in a high difficulty.

i tried getting into sekai but it just feels like piano tiles to me.

 No.3416

Does anybody else have this issue where they do well at fast songs but terrible at slow songs?

 No.3417

>>3416
Slow songs can be oddly difficult, and I think part of it is the slower note speed. The timing is a bit harder to passively gauge when they take so long to get to their targets, so I find I have to watch them more closely compared to faster songs.
I also find that each note in a song acts as a bit of a "reference" to the timing of the next note, so on slower songs where the notes are more spread out, they don't do that as well. Hopefully that makes sense…it's a bit hard to describe.
When I go for low fine count runs, I more often dread doing songs like Soundless Voice.

 No.3422

this song hates me…

>>3416
up to a point, faster note speed is easier to read

it feels weird playing Diva vs other rhythm games because it's basically one speed only
there is a high-speed option in MM+, but it's stupid fast even on slow songs and thus isn't for anything other than the challenge.

 No.3423

At least you cleared it, i'm still here trying to git gud at extremes after getting a bunch of Excellents / Greats on Hard. Which song would you recommend to a newbie? (technically not a complete newbie i've been playing since the PS3 game came out but i've never been very good at it).

 No.3425

>>3423
Go in order of difficulty rating; get the ExPatch mod if you don't want to grind out everything on Hard first. If you're comfortable with Hard then 6-7.5* Extremes should be well within your reach.

 No.3431

>>3423
honestly?
just play in order, with preference to songs you like (since you will absolutely need to know them very well), and then grind out anything you can get to the end of but still don't pass on until you do

 No.3435

Finally beat all of the base game songs on normal + a few on hard. Felt I was skilled enough and my autism satisfied enough now to try mods and downloaded some. Rip old save file

my layout is a dual arcade stick setup that ends up working really well for arcade style Diva

both of the sticks are swipe, while 4 buttons between the sticks are tri/squ/x/o
it does feel a little easier than at the arcade since the controls are way closer, but my time at home transfers over
the whole setup was built for games like smash TV and robotron and total carnage, but I've had success with using it for diva and groove coaster

I think everyone knows this feel. I'll start noticing my breath, blinking manually, palms get sweaty…I spend a gross amount of time in practice mode for this reason, often running that last 20% or so of a song over and over until it feels like it's second nature.

Anyone else have one of the Hori Arcade controllers? I got one recently and figured something must be wrong with mine because I would constantly lose holds and sometimes miss notes altogether. I tried looking it up but didn't find any information online, in English anyway, but came across this video in Japanese. Apparently the problem is the sensor Hori uses in the controllers: they aren't adequate at all for how you'll be pressing the buttons, especially on harder difficulties. This video offers a solution that involves making your own optical sensors and connectors instead of having to buy new Sanwa buttons, sensors, and wires like the arcade cabinets use which adds up extremely quickly (70-80 USD per button, essentially doubling the price, at which point I could have just made my own)

 No.3475

>>3473
buy Korean Samducksa 100mm buttons from ISTMall, Sanwa buttons are fuck off expensive
part number cwb 401, $9 each

shipping is a killer from Korea though, but the buttons are way cheaper at $9 each and homebuild Pop'n players swear by them (I don't know anyone who homebuilt their own Diva controller)

 No.3476

>>3475
also, don't be tempted to get the Chinese IST buttons they offer - they do have Korean switches and proper springs for rhythm game use, but the buttons are just way worse made with much looser tolerances, so they don't feel great to play on

 No.3477

>>3475
I see, thanks for the recommendation. I've never modded arcade controllers before so I'm not sure if there's anything else I would need or is it just as easy as remove/change out buttons?

 No.3478

>>3477
they're drop in replacements for Sanwa buttons, so anything you'd need to put Sanwa buttons into the controller, you'd need for these

 No.3480

>>3478
Apparently you would have to mess around with some of the connectors too since the Hori buttons use 4 and Sanwa has 5. I kept searching and then found this, which uses toilet paper of all things, tried it, and it seems to have worked somehow. At the very least I'm not losing my holds randomly anymore. I still don't really like how the buttons feel compared to the Sanwa ones though so I might still look into changing them.

How do you find the D-pad on that? I find most D-pads to be pretty poor for rhythm games in general, especially on faster songs. I ended up getting a third party D-pad with separate buttons for my DS4 since it would frequently give me wonky inputs.

Surprisingly well all things considered. I thought it would be shit since its kind of all confined to a single piece of plastic instead of being separate buttons but the D-Pad works great and I've used it for Project Diva specifically. Paid mods are a plague to modding communities. The Sims literally has an entire mod piracy site just because a couple modders decided that making their shit paid was a good idea. the funniest thing is that it's literally against EA's TOS, not that EA's opinion on anything matters, but they shouldn't be doing it in the first place.

i understand needing to sustain yourself and all that, but it's not like you're the *only* person that will make something like a rabbit hole model. if someone else comes out with something similar but free you're essentially fucked because people will always prefer the free alternative

I've taken to using the favorites menu to keep a short list of songs I'm actively working on, some that I haven't cleared yet, some that I'm just a note or two off perfect on. Usually I give each of those one or two good attempts, if I do better then that's nice, when I get a perfect I take it off the list. I don't find it as fun or effective to grind one song for an extended period of time, especially once I'm really close to perfect. The lower end Extremes are often easier than the higher end Hards, don't be afraid to try 6-7.5* Extremes if you're decent at Hard. Extra Extreme isn't always harder than Extreme either. Sometimes the addition of slides makes the song much more generous, in rare cases Extra Extreme just plain has easier charting than Extreme.

Jacks are brutal, and the game doesn't really prepare you for them. They just show up in a few songs at the higher end. Are you playing on kb or controller? I use two sets of binds. There's no way I could do faster mashing and alternations otherwise, especially alternating doubles. I don't use macros at all though, I like having to figure out ways to contort my hands to keep holds and manage tricky patterns, even if it kneecaps my performance a bit.

That's smart, I think macros are more helpful on controller anyways since you're using less fingers to hit all the buttons

>>4694
>Idk how to do that either tho
Np. Open the customize menu from the song list and go to Game/Control Config, each single and multi input can be assigned to two buttons.
If you're on controller, it's common to assign X○△□ to both L2 and R2 for hitting quad notes and extending/handing off holds.
Some beginners set L1 and R1 to X△□ and X○□ respectively since they are the common triples and often appear on the left and right sides of the screen like that.
△□ and X○ are the most common doubles, so many players put those on L1 and R1. Some songs require alternation between those two, matching the left two and right two buttons of the arcade layout. Almost every chart is manageable with that setup.
On paper, X△ and ○□ would be more logical since those are the only two doubles that you can't easily hit with one thumb on either side, but few songs require you to hit them very quickly. Helpful for charts like Gothic EXEX, or Black Gold EXEX if you don't want to adjust your grip.
PS4 players have the options to set inputs to more than two buttons, so you could map each L/R/1/2 to singles as well, shame the PC version doesn't have that option.

This video explains it all better and goes into details about using quads for holds, only slight differences on the PS4 version:
https://youtu.be/Kyxwkn3W0uc?si=ISr344H79Lbm0-Q4

Even if you learn with macros, you'll learn how to hit all the multis naturally if you play long enough.

And uhh if you're on keyboard I don't really have any advice, gomen.

>for those who play on linux and have tried, how difficult is modding?
Not too different to how it is on Windows. Get a mod loader (I used DivaModManager through Wine at first, but it got too unstable with a big mod list so I use Rust4Diva now) and use a recent version of ProtonGE (some mod songs I've come across have used some weird encoding for their PVs so they were all messed up until I updated) and you should be good to go. Some Kaito screenshots I took from the Love is War 3DPV. I think a couple of them make good wallpapers.

Also a little fun fact: this module from the extra modules pack mod gives Kaito tits for whatever reason. I think it was accidental but it's still funny that it happens.

Does anybody know if there's any mods to get rid of that awful toon shader during Negaposi Continues and a few other songs?

Very stoked on this score, took a disgusting amount of time in practice mode. Starting certain patterns with the left hand and fully alternating after helped a lot with consistency. Another one of those songs that's fun enough to just keep playing.

i keep forgetting practice mode exists

It's stupid helpful if you're going for Perfects or trying to learn specific patterns on tougher songs. I probably spend 2/3rds of my play time in practice currently

Got my VOiCE high score. I didn't really appreciate that song until you started talking about it.
What song does /leek/ play next??

Are you tripping up at a particular point in the song? Or is it sporadic.
Nice score still

The very last part of it. I'm not even sure why since I tend to miss the safes / misses until I'm done with the song.

Nerves? I tend to spend extra time in practice mode on endings for that reason, usually shooting for 5 consecutive successes before doing attempts.

Probably, i've never played in practice mode ironically. And as i said in my previous post i tend to not realize i fucked up until the song's over because i'm always super focused.

Finally managed to get a perfect. I tried practice mode earlier but it's just not for me, I don't understand it and I don't want to bother trying to understand it.

The Mirai models make Miku & friends look like they're about to trip and fall due to their heads being bigger and heavier than their bodies. Also we just hit bump limit with this post but don't make a new thread, let's keep going for now until the thread gets locked.

Hell yeah dude, that is a sexy perfect.
I won't shill practice mode too much harder but just remember it's there as you get into harder charts. You can move that marker around as a restart point so you can quickly repeat whichever parts of the song you like. I've spent about 3hrs practicing Rin-chan Now so far, splitting the song up into 4-5 segments. I find going for high scores way less frustrating when I bang out 95% of the work beforehand.
But obviously, what you're doing is working well

>>6580
>look like they're about to trip and fall
I don't have the means to record it, but they do trip and fall sometimes if left on the communication mode screen...it's pretty cute

Thoughts on the Project Megpoid mod?

 No.6603

>>6601
I'm not a Gumi fan but this is one of those mods where you can tell the people who made it really love her. There's a lot of effort put into it and it is overall a great mod. Wish we could get a total conversion mod that adds more Vocaloid, more modules and more songs all in one.

 No.6604

The charts are a lot of fun. I wish they weren't the super cut-down Megpoid the Music# versions of the songs but it's still very impressive work.

I think that's the idea of the mod, to be some sort of PC port of MtM#
