Let's have a thread for Vocaloid vidyagames that aren't Project Diva/Sekai. I recently came across this Vocaloid fangame called After School-A Vocaloid RPG by Edlinklover which looks absolutely insane.
>Playing as Oliver, you find yourself in a "Spirit World," an alternate dimension hosted by a single corrupted spirit. You meet new characters, and help spirits along the way while keeping an eye out for the corrupted host spirit. The player must help Oliver escape this world safely, while navigating the dangers it throws his way.

I have not played it yet but I love rpg maker games and I love the art style. Will probably update this thread with my thoughts once I finish it.

If somebody has never heard vocal-synth music before, and you wanted to get them into it, what song would you show them?

Would you have them listen to a realistic vocal or a robotic one? Would you pick a popular song or a personal favorite? Would you showcase something mainstream or rooted in otaku culture? Would you start with a cover of a song first sung by a human, or a vocal-synth original? Would you recommend a song from a genre they liked, or something that they've never heard before?

If you were someone's introduction to Vocaloid, what song did you pick and how did it go?

How important is knowing a song's lyrics and meaning to you?

When I'm watching an anime or a foreign film, I read the subtitles, but when I'm listening to music, most of the time, I don't pay any attention to the lyrics. While I sometimes read a translation, or watch a music video with subtitles, for the vast majority of songs that I listen to, I don't have a clue what they are about.

Am I just dumb, or does anybody else do this too?

I'm fluent enough to listen to songs without subs, and while you're right that cultural context is important, it's not impossible to pick up on. I've gotten a fair amount through internet osmosis, like how ESL users do it.

 No.23257

>>23234
Well, that goes for any language doesn't it? Idioms, proverbs, cultural context is key to any language, and Japanese isn't too radically different. It's a barrier sure, but it's not that bothersome. Besides, that's also a part of the fun in learning and reading/listening/watching stuff in another language.

I didn't understand what 阿修羅の道 or 修羅場 (allusion/idiom to Buddhist demigods and their battles in their realm of reality with other gods) really meant when I first saw it when I was watching an anime, or what 嘘ついたら針千本飲ます (expression used for pinky promises) meant when I saw it for the first time in iyowa's Mercy Killing, or what 影踏み (children's game in which you step in shadows) was in kous's Layering Human Shadows. I can think of various other examples on the top of my head, but that would probably take up a massive block of text.

To reiterate, it helps to know that songs are poetry at the end of the day, and could have multiple interpretations depending on what the lyrics are about. Even if you understand everything literally and figuratively, there might still be multiple meanings attached to the lyrics.

One major complaint i remember about the Spanish vocaloids back in the day was that they all had European Spanish accents. To Spanish speakers the difference between European Spanish and Latin American Spanish is a bit similar to American English and British English. So imagine if all the English Vocaloids had British accents, it'd be something like that. In fact, I think one of the reasons LUAN and LUCIA were never released (aside from companies not wanting to pick them up) was because people bitched about the accent.

Watashi no Koko general, since the project is still active and YOSU still releases music. I think it's a neat little project so i want to share it with you.

>What is Watashi no Koko

Watashi no Koko (formerly Kesson Shoujo) is a fictional experimental / noise / j-pop band from Japan created and managed by Kazuhumi Yosu with artwork generally illustrated by Kurage Nanami or Yosu himself. The vocals are produced using an outdated Japanese vocal synthesizer called LaLaVoice, which is personified as the character and core member of the band Lala.

I assume most of /leek/ is aware of fan-designs of Vocaloids that do not have a canon design. Such as Primina, Yandere!Prima, those very old Leon/Lola designs that would show up a lot on NND, or entire projects that aim to give designs to faceless 'loids such as Rice and Circus' Vimalion Pro.

Since you anons have been behind notable creative projects such as the leekaloids. I want to propose the creation of a new project that gives every faceless synth a face. That includes pre-V6 era vocaloids such as Tonio, less popular synths such as LalaVoice, etc. The idea isn't to compete with Vimalion or similar projects but to create our own designs that anyone can use and let anons collaborate to make some good fuggin' characters.

What does /leek/ think? Yay? Nay?
