Mikudayo (#538 - Apr 24, 2026, 16:35):
Did they fix that disgusting excuse of an English "translation" or will I have to wait for someone to make a mod?

Mikudayo (#539 - Apr 24, 2026, 16:45):
>>538
Sadly no, the english translation is still one of the worst english translations a videogame has ever received. Wait for someone to make a proper translation via mod and if you're not an English speaker just play it in your main language.

Mikudayo (#540 - Apr 24, 2026, 16:57):
>>538
Nude mod when

Mikudayo (#541 - Apr 24, 2026, 17:01):
>>540
If you're serious about it go make a thread on that other forum, you know the one

Mikudayo (#542 - Apr 24, 2026, 17:11):
>>538
play it in whatever other language you know that isn't english. it's just not worth it at the moment.
the current english translation is a complete and utter disrespect to the otaku culture this game celebrates. i'm surprised it even made it to the final release.

Mikudayo (#543 - Apr 24, 2026, 17:18):
I'm not a big fan of "Q-chan" being translated as "Qtie" but that's honestly one of the least harmless changes

Mikudayo (#544 - Apr 24, 2026, 17:59):
Is anyone going to provide receipts or should I pretend that you all know Japanese based on what you read on socials?

I wonder if people even know the etymology of やめろ　getting big on Twitter or why it would be stupid to translate it literally as "stop". I'm not going to go to bat for this, or even that specific translation, but if you're running a translation down by line items the critique is about as valuable as MTL.

Mikudayo (#545 - Apr 24, 2026, 18:03):
>>544
I assume you either worked on the translation or are trolling because there's no way you're defending that English translation.

I know Italian, portuguese, spanish and a bit of german and none of those languages have this issue. Their translations are alright.

Mikudayo (#546 - Apr 24, 2026, 18:06):
>>544
I don't know japanese but i don't want zoomer slang and removed references in my denpa moe rhythm game

Mikudayo (#547 - Apr 24, 2026, 18:06):
>>545
And what issue would that be? Are you going to provide a valuable insight beyond "it's bad because I said it is and the rest of my friends did", or do you think a stilted translation is always correct?

Mikudayo (#548 - Apr 24, 2026, 22:41):
>>547
Not that anon but it's bad because it barely has anything to do with what they're actually saying and feels like it was written by a millennial attempting to be hip and cool. English is the only language where they did this dumb shit. Is this really the hill you're willing to die on?.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1dvt9FX8O2nmE3csef3oJbSLXwOl8k-VD63yyB_YfB64/edit?gid=0#gid=0

Mikudayo (#549 - Apr 24, 2026, 22:59):
>>547
We're not asking for a "stilted" translation

We just don't want a bunch of activists who don't give a shit about the game to self insert into it and push political garbage that was never there in the first place or zoomer slang that will be seen as obsolete in less than 5 years
The LEAST you can do is replace a Japanese reference with an American equivalent like the 2channel "Kita!" with some 4chan greentext joke.

Mikudayo (#550 - Apr 24, 2026, 23:03):
>>548
>ojisan speak becomes australian english
kek, what did australians do to piss off the localizers

Mikudayo (#552 - Apr 25, 2026, 02:47):
>>548
>"Influencer" translated as Influenza
this can't be real hahahaha

Mikudayo (#553 - Apr 25, 2026, 02:50):
Enough people bitched about it that they're trying to fix it. I see this as a win.
https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/2914150/view/502856256328827730

Mikudayo (#554 - Apr 25, 2026, 03:04):
I recently found out that Nanahira (Nana Haruka) voices Qtie
>>553
I wouldn't get my hopes up. Chances are they'll remove the political bs and nothing else. That being said though i hope the game is moddable (and not just because of the translation)

Mikudayo (#556 - Apr 25, 2026, 03:06):
>>552
Influenza is what i got from reading these lines

Mikudayo (#557 - Apr 25, 2026, 03:09):
>>540
Once people figure out how to mod this thing I'm sure it's one of the first mods we'll see. Q-chan tits will be worth the wait, trust me.

Mikudayo (#558 - Apr 25, 2026, 15:17):
We're getting another game where Nanahira voices the protag. Theme song by Aiobahn and Demondi... oh... oh no...

Mikudayo (#559 - Apr 25, 2026, 15:26):

sex

Mikudayo (#560 - Apr 25, 2026, 15:51):
Q-chan love...

Mikudayo (#561 - Apr 25, 2026, 15:55):

Mikudayo (#562 - Apr 25, 2026, 15:57):
>>561
>>560
The art style really reminds me of Sakamoto Ahiru

Mikudayo (#563 - Apr 25, 2026, 16:21):
>>562
Can't unsee it now

Mikudayo (#565 - Apr 25, 2026, 18:58):
>>562
That or GYARI

Mikudayo (#566 - Apr 26, 2026, 02:54):
Is this game forgiving compared to other rhythm games? How are the difficulties?

Mikudayo (#567 - Apr 26, 2026, 03:02):
>>566
Yep, its easy even in hard

Mikudayo (#568 - Apr 26, 2026, 14:15):
>>566
I'm not a rhythm games guy so i don't know what i could compare it to. All i know is i didnt struggle much on hard difficulty so it cant be that hard.

Mikudayo (#569 - Apr 26, 2026, 15:26):
Fanmade English patch is out for those who can't read anything other than English and don't want to deal with the localization.

https://github.com/Radish-sys/yunyun-syndrome-patch

Mikudayo (#570 - Apr 26, 2026, 16:52):
Are there any vocaloid songs in this?

Mikudayo (#571 - Apr 27, 2026, 22:04):
DENPA

Mikudayo (#572 - Apr 27, 2026, 22:11):
>>566
Mostly, yeah

Mikudayo (#573 - Apr 27, 2026, 22:12):
Just noticed there is a Touhou DLC

Mikudayo (#574 - Apr 27, 2026, 22:32):
>>571
Denpa...

Mikudayo (#575 - Apr 27, 2026, 22:38):
There's a song in this game that references Stairway to Heaven in the intro wwww

Mikudayo (#580 - Apr 28, 2026, 04:32):
>>575
Which song is it?

Mikudayo (#582 - Apr 28, 2026, 04:36):
>>580
"winter is machine gun"

Mikudayo (#583 - Apr 28, 2026, 17:39):
Has anyone managed to mod the game yet aside from the people working on the English translation patch? I'd love to see a mod for custom characters

Mikudayo (#584 - Apr 29, 2026, 17:37):
Got the Touhou DLC

Mikudayo (#585 - Apr 29, 2026, 18:12):
Was blindsided by the localization to be honest, this is the same publisher for Needy Streamer Overload and I really liked how they did it. Wtf happened

Mikudayo (#586 - Apr 29, 2026, 18:18):
>>585
Yep they have a new game coming and it features DEMONDICE in the soundtrack (more commonly known as Mori from Hololive EN these days) >>558
>Wtf happened
No idea, the localization for Needy Streamer was also the same team but in that game it kinda felt more natural. I also don't recall there being self insert politics in it. I'm guessing they saw a game about internet culture and decided to go overboard with it, or maybe they just didn't like it. Either way I haven't been playing it in English and I'm not too invested in the story.

Mikudayo (#587 - Apr 29, 2026, 18:32):
They weren't kidding about denpa. Lots of classics here.

Mikudayo (#588 - Apr 29, 2026, 18:42):
This denpa is sponsored by Zone Energy

Mikudayo (#589 - Apr 29, 2026, 18:44):
>>570
Doesn't seem like it so far, but songs like Rin Chan Now would not feel out of place in this game

Mikudayo (#590 - May 1, 2026, 04:48):
>>558
People forgot about Yunyun too quickly. Now the big titty alcohol demon game is all they talk about.

Mikudayo (#591 - May 1, 2026, 05:10):
>>590
I'm not surprised considering it features a Hololive member and the main character seems designed so that artists draw porn of her

Mikudayo (#603 - May 7, 2026, 18:24):
Crazy that these characters are all voiced by none other than Nanahira

Mikudayo (#604 - May 7, 2026, 22:27):
>>603
She also voices Femme in Pukey Goddess or whatever that's called. I hope they don't dub the voices because going from Nanahira to Demondice would be a massive downgrade.

Mikudayo (#615 - May 19, 2026, 17:22):
The game's finally moddable. Vocaloid song pack soon hopefully.
https://github.com/EBro912/YunYunLoader

Mikudayo (#616 - May 19, 2026, 20:54):
>>615
Heat Abnormal is a must

Mikudayo (#630 - May 25, 2026, 16:14):
>>615
Ai Ai Ai, Kane Kane Kaneee

Mikudayo (#631 - May 26, 2026, 02:14):
god i love denpa

Mikudayo (#632 - May 27, 2026, 20:44):

Mikudayo (#633 - May 27, 2026, 20:47):
Is Q-chan a schizo?

Mikudayo (#634 - May 28, 2026, 07:45):
>>633
Honestly I've had that theory for a while. She talks to a fictional demon girl from a game she likes and makes batshit insane social media posts that she thinks have any significance. Mind you I haven't finished the game and I don't even know if there's even an ending but yeah...

Mikudayo (#635 - May 28, 2026, 07:52):
>>634
Hadn't thought of it that way

Mikudayo (#636 - May 28, 2026, 08:11):
>>634
I think she just uses fiction to cope like those girls who ship themselves with fictional characters and talk to them through AI

Mikudayo (#637 - May 28, 2026, 08:15):
>>636
What about the SNS posts

Mikudayo (#638 - May 30, 2026, 17:42):
Hey /j/, will you be playing Pukey Goddess when it's out?

Mikudayo (#639 - May 30, 2026, 17:57):
>>638
yeah

Mikudayo (#762 - Oct 11, 2026, 14:08):
Sprites are fully moddable now **thanks to Claude**, which makes me wonder what kind of things will come out of the modding scene when Pukey Goddess comes out...

I'm disappointed no one has bothered making a Kaai Yuki cover of it.

Do people still care about Love Live?

Mikudayo (#474 - Mar 29, 2026, 21:05):
I'm still mad about that one game having the eng release have both the release date and EOS be announced in the same post

Sunrise just hates money or something

Mikudayo (#475 - Mar 29, 2026, 21:19):
I'm gonna be honest with you i never played the games but I've been watching all the animes since 2014. I understand why people prefer IM@S but Love Live is what introduced me to idol anime so I have a soft spot for it still.

Mikudayo (#477 - Mar 29, 2026, 23:26):
Mandatory video
>>474
That decision killed the western fanbase imo. The games were the only way you could engage with LL in English and it's just gone. My interest in LL stopped after Liella was introduced so I could be wrong but Hasunosora seems to be popular in Japan.

Mikudayo (#723 - Aug 23, 2026, 15:42):
>>473
I haven't kept up with recent releases but i still have a soft spot for early Love Live and μ's. I can't believe its been so long.

Mikudayo (#724 - Aug 23, 2026, 15:53):
>>723
Same here Nicobro. I still live in 2013 and the LLSIP anime just came out.

Mikudayo (#725 - Aug 23, 2026, 17:29):
I do feel a bit nostalgic for it, and especially the early days of the fandom. These days i'm more into Idolm@ster though,

Mikudayo (#736 - Aug 24, 2026, 01:15):
>>723
Aquors better

Mikudayo (#738 - Aug 29, 2026, 01:54):
>>477
Technically there's the animes too. I discovered the LL games a couple years after the shows.

753 - Japanese Indie Horror Games

Visual Novels, RPG Maker, Ryona/Guro games, etc. Been a while since I've heard someone talk about indie horror games from Japan. Let's have a thread for them. I've been meaning to replay Witch's House.

Mikudayo (#754 - Sep 22, 2026, 21:17):
Bewmping just to say that I've been replaying good ol Yume Nikki for the first time in years. I had forgotten about the Steam port, what a weird period to be a YN fan.

Mikudayo (#755 - Sep 22, 2026, 22:19):
I have been meaning to try out some more denpa visual novels some time.

>>754
I am impatient enough I had to play using the glitch that increases your walking speed.

Mikudayo (#756 - Sep 22, 2026, 22:53):
>>755
It is a pretty slow game without the glitch

Mikudayo (#758 - Sep 22, 2026, 23:57):
I dont know if this fits but does anyone have any VN recommendations for switch? I'm pretty casual when it comes VNs so anything outside really mainstream stuff will do, I think the last one I played was school days. Found a few that looks interesting but with how thrash eshop can be when it comes categorizing games, I really don't want to blindly invest time or money into some bs.

Something around 7-8 hours (or shorter) would be preferable but as long as dayos think the game is good I wouldn't mind something longer.

Mikudayo (#759 - Sep 24, 2026, 03:15):
Speaking of visual novels and Yume Nikki...

Mikudayo (#742 - Sep 8, 2026, 19:52):
>>741
The big 'Tok discovered her is my best guess. Her music was uploaded to streaming services earlier this year it seems.

Is the show actually good or do people just like seeing cute girls smoke?

Mikudayo (#663 - Jul 4, 2026, 16:14):
>>662
It's a gross-out comedy, so it's really love it or hate it. Reminds me of Watamote

Mikudayo (#664 - Jul 4, 2026, 18:01):
>>661
she's cute, i hope she doesn't develop lung cancer from smoking too much

Mikudayo (#665 - Jul 4, 2026, 20:35):
>>662
Good animation. Humor is a personal thing so you either like it or hate it.

>>664
Surprisingly majority of smokers do not actually get lung cancer. There even has been a few people who have lived to over 100 that were long time chain smokers. Pretty unfair huh? It increases the risk but it isnt the most likely risk. The more immediate risk is weak bones, bad dental health, shortage of breath, lowered immune system, stinking and tasting like an ash tray to name a few.

Mikudayo (#666 - Jul 4, 2026, 20:37):
>>665
Yeah, a former smoker I know developed chronic lung issues but it wasn't cancer.

Mikudayo (#667 - Jul 6, 2026, 20:58):
>>662
Depends if you like toilet humor. I found it pretty funny. The catgirls really add a layer of absurdity to it

Mikudayo (#668 - Jul 6, 2026, 22:14):
I was watching it, I'm actually not the BIGGEST fan of the humor but I'm using it to give my friend references for their art so. It's serving a purpose idc.

Mikudayo (#669 - Jul 7, 2026, 02:44):

Mikudayo (#43 - May 2, 2025, 21:42):
>>42
Why is it that the worst OS get the best designs? ME sucks and yet ME-tan is iconic. Then you have the 8 twins and 8 sucked.

Mikudayo (#44 - May 2, 2025, 21:50):
>>43
Yes, ME-tan is easily the most iconic, but 2K and 95 were great and I love their os-tan designs.

the 7 girl is suuuuuuuper cute too and 7 was fantastic
never did care much about the 8 girls, or the windows 10 girl either

Mikudayo (#45 - May 3, 2025, 17:16):

Funny how Vista-tan is the only OS-tan character to not have an universally agreed upon design

Mikudayo (#715 - Aug 14, 2026, 22:38):
>>714
Vista was nothing special as an OS. Most people stuck with Windows XP or waited for 7, because the people who were using Vista at the time mostly had negative opinions about it. Its like whats happening now with W11 where everyone is either still using 10 or has switched to Linux.

I won't be surprised if that played a role in why there's no definitive Vista-tan.

Mikudayo (#716 - Aug 15, 2026, 14:13):
I love XP-chan

Mikudayo (#717 - Aug 15, 2026, 21:18):
>>715
>Vista was nothing special as an OS.
Not true. Vista was quite revolutionary, pretty much all improvements that 7 had over XP were already in Vista.
Biggest two issues with Vista weren't with the OS itself at all, they were purely contemporary:
1. Vista took significantly longer to get released than previous Windows successors. Because the same OS [XP] stayed for so long, everyone got used to not having to upgrade the whole PC every 2 years, including PC retailers who sold underpowered machines as "Vista ready" because it was more profitable to sell off stock they already had than to offer newer hardware that would actually run the OS smoothly.
2. Not many people seem to remember this, but XP at launch was just as bad, if not worse than Vista, with people very similarly opting to stay with 98SE instead, for pretty much the same reasons as why many people didn't move to Vista from XP (mainly the large performance/requirement difference + incompatibilities with older or uncommon hardware/software). It's just that Vista had the misfortune of being released after broadband Internet access became common and the whole "Web 2.0" thing (social media, user-driven content creation, etc.) had really kicked off, while WinXP had a lot of time to mature as an OS, as well as for people to just get used to XP. So even/especially non-tech savvy people with Internet access and social media just meme'd on Vista being bad. Even if someone wasn't knowledgeable or interested in OSes themselves, they would often just repeat the "Vista bad" opinion they read online.

Mikudayo (#718 - Aug 15, 2026, 21:20):
>>717
I always thuoght Vista was fine tbh. Worked fine on my machine so I never got the hate. Also it had Inkball. It's the only OS that has Inkball.

Mikudayo (#719 - Aug 15, 2026, 21:22):

Seems a number use the ChatGPT or GPTmini API now instead of just saying lines. Do any use local LLMs and speak aloud and actually run tasks for you? I hate pseudo AI but it can be fun to play around with a while and considered making one if I ever get my shit together and learn a skill.

Mikudayo (#687 - Jul 27, 2026, 15:54):

I always assumed Ukagaka got discontinued somewhere around the 2010's but i was surprised to see that the original website is still up

About a year ago, but I made it too big **and switched to Linux** and dropped it. They are very fun to make though. Perfect for the Windows XP era.

If it is too big doesnt that just mean it works fine on higher resolution monitors?

Mikudayo (#692 - Jul 28, 2026, 08:49):

We should have more desktop pets based on 'loids

Mikudayo (#693 - Jul 28, 2026, 21:26):

If I was doing it Id make TT-chan to act as a sort of comfort to the troubled and remind them to take their meds and stuff.

Mikudayo (#694 - Jul 28, 2026, 21:31):
>>693
Do it lol

Mikudayo (#695 - Jul 28, 2026, 22:02):
>>693
That's a genius idea jokes aside

Mikudayo (#696 - Jul 28, 2026, 23:12):
>>693
if you know how to code you should make this a real thing. a desktop widget of a cute girl that tells you to take your meds is very moe.

Mikudayo (#697 - Jul 28, 2026, 23:43):
>>696
I am a sort of overly ambitious underachiever. I tend to not go anywhere with my intents to develope skills or projects. I have programmed a little simple stuff learning in past but don't remember anything so Id have to start over from scratch and pick a language I think i could learn fast. Basically if I did it id integrate a full medication tracker so it would keep proper logs to avoid accidentally encouraging overdoses. Probably would need a way to sync to a mobile app as well. A diet tracker, a journal that can keep track of patterns in correlation to diet and medication. But again that is getting way over my head.

Mikudayo (#704 - Aug 14, 2026, 01:42):
>>697

Mikudayo (#712 - Aug 14, 2026, 21:58):
>>704
Vibe coding has a huge issue of not being sustainable long term. It can wind up with bugs humans would not make so becomes more difficult to spot and fix both for humans and the LLM itself.

Mikudayo (#713 - Aug 14, 2026, 22:06):
>>712
Anon is right. Just look at the disaster that is Windows 11 for reference. But for making stupid simple shit, especially in html, you'll be fine.

269 - I recently saw a thread on 4chan discussing the evolution of Japanese internet culture over the years. There were some interesting things said about 2channel/5channel '''(not to be confused with Futaba/2chan)''' and Futaba Channel/2chan.net.

Since this is the only imageboard out there with a Nihongo Culture board (rather than general Otaku Culture) I thought of importing this topic here.

Do you browse the Japanese internet? Do you feel like it has changed drastically or that some of its most important sites have fallen from grace?

Cool thread anon. Hioka was recently asked about this on /leek/ so I'm just gonna repost what he said here since it fits the topic.

Mikudayo (#294 - Nov 28, 2025, 01:24):
>>269
I wouldn't be able to tell as I'm not Japanese but in terms of imageboards 4chan has definitely fallen from grace to the point where a lot of its users would prefer if it shut down (I know half of the /jp/ board would). I think 2channel and Futaba are also losing relevancy, its alternatives seem to be doing better.

Mikudayo (#301 - Dec 7, 2025, 16:27):
>>294
Someone a while back on 4/jp/ had mentioned that the Japanese moved to a new imageboard (can't remember the name right now) that requires a dicksword account to access it. It's still anonymous and functions the same as Futaba but to prevent spam and such you need a dicksword account.

Mikudayo (#701 - Aug 14, 2026, 01:27):
I've been reading this thread on a Japanese imageboard where 39chan was briefly mentioned. They might be watching us right now. :yukarietto:

He would also often reply to posts, I specifically remember asking him if he had a Steam account once but he didn't know what it was, I believe he was an Xbox guy.
3 - Asian drinks general

Today i had Hata Ramune (picrel) for the first time The taste is hard to describe, it's almost like an alcoholic pineapple drink except without any alcohol. It also had a small crystal ball inside which i kept. Pineapple isnt the only flavor that exists, I also saw grape and a couple others.

Mikudayo (#4 - Mar 10, 2025, 16:14):
>>3
I want to find one...! Also I assume the ball is like the typical ramune marbles? How'd you get it out?

Mikudayo (#5 - Mar 10, 2025, 16:19):
>>4
By opening it, lol

Mikudayo (#6 - Apr 21, 2025, 02:14):
Which flavor is best?

Mikudayo (#8 - Apr 21, 2025, 02:21):
>>6
i like lychee and strawberry. blueberry is good too
i'll have to try the ones i can find again and give a total ranking

Mikudayo (#9 - Apr 21, 2025, 02:29):
>>6
i like blueberry, lychee, and melon the best:rinthumbs:

Mikudayo (#11 - Apr 21, 2025, 16:34):
>>8
>>9
>Blueberry ramune
Not sold where i live sadly but blueberry drinks are usually kino so i can imagine. Will make sure to try one next time i travel.

Mikudayo (#12 - Apr 21, 2025, 16:49):
I think everybody should try Yakult before dying

Mikudayo (#17 - Apr 22, 2025, 14:08):
i found a ramune with a precure label!

Mikudayo (#18 - Apr 22, 2025, 14:20):
>>17
There's a miku piss drink too

Mikudayo (#19 - Apr 22, 2025, 14:27):
>>18
don't drink the miku piss at 3am

Mikudayo (#20 - Apr 22, 2025, 14:28):

Mikudayo (#50 - May 7, 2025, 03:08):
Has anyone here tried Sake? If so how does it compare to Beer? Does it taste the same? Is it stronger/weaker?

Mikudayo (#55 - May 8, 2025, 19:13):
>>18
>>3
Yuzu is so good! I like candies and tea with it too. Lychee is great as well.
I like Asian alcohol like sochu and rice beer, been a long time since I've had any but I feel the itch for it.

Mikudayo (#56 - May 8, 2025, 19:19):
They should've made the drink blue

Mikudayo (#66 - May 18, 2025, 03:56):
>>50
If you put sake in a freezer for 24 hours, does it become "solid sake"?

Mikudayo (#67 - May 18, 2025, 11:39):
>>50
I'm a very occasional drinker but it doesn't taste anything like beer. There's a lot of variety too. Some are incredibly smooth and easy to drink, some will put some hair on your chest. I've had it served hot at restaurants but typically have it chilled if I have it at home. The kinds I've tried have all been fairly inexpensive, would strongly recommend try some different kinds.

Mikudayo (#106 - May 30, 2025, 15:14):
Are you team lemon, team orange or team pineapple?

Mikudayo (#107 - May 30, 2025, 16:50):
>>106
I have never tasted orange ramune so if i had to choose i would go with orange

Mikudayo (#108 - May 31, 2025, 12:01):
>>106
I wanna try pineapple

Mikudayo (#109 - May 31, 2025, 13:12):
>>108
I had pineapple it's good

Mikudayo (#110 - Jun 1, 2025, 22:11):
>>50
I drink Sake whenever I drink (which isn't often tbf.)
It's kinda whatever, it's more of a liquor than a beer type of drink. Pretty rough especially if you're drinking cheap shit but flavored Sake is quite nice. I would recommend Yuzu sake especially.
>>12
I drink it often because it helps my tummy not feel miserable
>>106
For me, it's Melon.

Mikudayo (#111 - Jun 1, 2025, 22:11):
>>110
Lemon Melon Ramune

Mikudayo (#130 - Jun 6, 2025, 02:56):
>>106
Orange, hands down
Even the bottle is great

Mikudayo (#132 - Jun 6, 2025, 03:09):
>>110
>Melon
There's no melon you must choose one of the three miku bottles.

Mikudayo (#133 - Jun 6, 2025, 03:18):
You know what's also really good? Calpis

Mikudayo (#136 - Jun 6, 2025, 10:26):
>>132
Ohhh,
Lemon I guess.
>>133
Thoughts on Pocari Sweat?

Mikudayo (#137 - Jun 6, 2025, 10:33):
>>136
Never had it

Mikudayo (#246 - Sep 29, 2025, 22:41):
Note to self: try Calpico when I have the chance

Mikudayo (#248 - Sep 30, 2025, 21:27):
>>246
I 100% recommend the white peach one!!!!! :mikuhappy:

Mikudayo (#251 - Oct 2, 2025, 14:18):
I've heard horror stories about watermelon Pepsi from a Japanese friend. Is it really that bad?.

Mikudayo (#258 - Oct 4, 2025, 14:12):
>>248
I'll take that into consideration

Mikudayo (#264 - Oct 14, 2025, 01:44):
Is it good?

Mikudayo (#265 - Oct 14, 2025, 02:16):
>>264
Typical energy drink, milder than a standard Monster. I bought two of these at a Donki, forgot I had one still full at HND, and slammed the whole thing just before security so I could keep the can.

Mikudayo (#266 - Oct 14, 2025, 02:19):
>>265
Really sounds like the type of drink I'd buy just to keep the can. Few years ago I startef collecting cans based on rarity / design. Got a couple Japanese ones that have characters but none of them are Miku.

Mikudayo (#267 - Oct 14, 2025, 02:43):
>>266
They're mainly marketing to the earthy holistic crowd (no artificial sweeteners) but I can't say I really noticed in the taste. I'd consider myself a energy drink enjoyer stateside, which has probably more variety than even Japan, but I can't say I've paid much mind to GO&FUN outside of the Racing Miku stuff. Japan's health varieties like Oronamin relly fill the niche already. Miku's a good way to keep their foot in the door I guess.

Mikudayo (#293 - Nov 28, 2025, 01:20):
Bump. Any drinks that are actually worth trying?. I want something lifechanging.

Mikudayo (#313 - Dec 29, 2025, 03:40):
Ramune is good. Not anything special but good.

Mikudayo (#358 - Jan 23, 2026, 12:05):
Bought a cola forever Ramune drink today. Will review eventually.

Mikudayo (#359 - Jan 23, 2026, 12:39):
>>358
flavored* fuck typing on a phone

Mikudayo (#360 - Jan 23, 2026, 15:27):
>>358
>>359
7/10
Tastes like regular cola but slightly sweeter. The ball is cool tho.

Mikudayo (#382 - Feb 1, 2026, 20:25):
Technically not /j/, but still an asian drink. Does anybody know what this is and why it tastes like Pepsi flavored water?. I bought it thinking it was just regular zero sugar Pepsi but with a cool bottle but it tastes completely different.

Mikudayo (#387 - Feb 28, 2026, 20:35):
>>382
That's Chinese not Japanese but it's sold in Japan as well. It's "Pepsi Raw" and it's exactly what the name suggests.

Mikudayo (#388 - Feb 28, 2026, 20:36):
>>387
I have had some before but the taste is pretty unremarkable and even cola flavored ramune is better

Mikudayo (#389 - Feb 28, 2026, 20:40):
On the topic of Ramune is it just me or they made it impossible to take out the tiny ball now?

Mikudayo (#390 - Feb 28, 2026, 20:42):
>>389
still possible, git good

Mikudayo (#391 - Feb 28, 2026, 22:40):
I still havent tried Ramune or any asian drinks in general. Easier to get my hands on snacks than drinks other than Ramune too.

>>387
What does the raw suggest? Unprocessed sugar?

Mikudayo (#392 - Feb 28, 2026, 22:43):
>>391
we should probably have a thread for snacks in general now that i think about it

Mikudayo (#393 - Mar 1, 2026, 01:52):
>>392
seconding

Mikudayo (#394 - Mar 1, 2026, 02:23):
>>387
I think 生 in this case means draft like 生ビール which means draft beer.

Mikudayo (#395 - Mar 1, 2026, 02:27):
>>394
From the wikipedia page
>An unrelated product named Pepsi Nama (Nama meaning "Raw" in Japanese) was launched in 2021 by Suntory, the Japanese distributor of Pepsi, where the cola spices are not heated and therefore natural; later in 2023, PepsiCo China released a Zero Sugar version of it with the English name as "Pepsi Raw"

Mikudayo (#399 - Mar 1, 2026, 07:19):
>>395
That's weird. I didn't know they heated the spices to begin with.

Mikudayo (#646 - Jun 5, 2026, 22:00):
Has anyone here had Zone? (the q-chan drink)

Mikudayo (#649 - Jun 7, 2026, 07:45):
>>646
No but i can't imagine it tasting any different than the average energy drink

Mikudayo (#671 - Jul 7, 2026, 10:10):
I just discovered this energy drink called Lipovitan that looks like a cough syrup bottle.

Mikudayo (#672 - Jul 7, 2026, 15:22):
>>671
They're marketed as health drinks. There are tons exactly like this because many of them are made by pharmaceutical companies.

Mikudayo (#673 - Jul 7, 2026, 15:26):
>>672
That's cool actually. I keep hearing that energy drinks have a negative impact on your health (though as far as i know overconsumption of caffeine is the root of the problem) but to see one advertised for having positive effects, that's new to me. If I ever go to Japan I'll make sure to try one.

Mikudayo (#675 - Jul 10, 2026, 11:44):
>>671
I wonder if it tastes like medicine, because I like the taste of things like cough syrup but hate the side effects.

498 - Kagi Translate

How decent is Kagi for communicating with Japanese people online? I've heard good things about it and you can apparently translate text to non existent languages such as "Alien" with AI. But is it accurate? Is it good enough to talk to my friends from the other side of the world?.
If not, what translator do you suggest?.

>inb4 "just learn Japanese"
I am. But I also already have Japanese friends. I want to be able to talk to them in real time like I'm talking to you and I'm not good enough to form sentences yet.

Mikudayo (#503 - Apr 2, 2026, 23:06):
I imagine English to Japanese is easier than Japanese to English except for the occasional homophones in English. This is because Japanese is highly context specific so it is more difficult to machine translate. Ideally for personal conversations you should be using a local hosted LLM but in other cases I have been using a Mozhi instance and set it to "all engines" so I can compare different translations to get a better idea of what might be the actual meaning when going JP > EN

Mikudayo (#507 - Apr 3, 2026, 01:02):
>>503
>Mozhi
What's this and does it run on a shit pc?

Mikudayo (#508 - Apr 3, 2026, 01:14):
>>507
You can self host it but you don't have to. It is just a front end proxy for different translator sites like Google, DeepL, DuckDuckGo, MyMemory, Reverso and sometimes others depending on the instance. Here is one so you can get an idea what it looks like.
https://mozhi.pussthecat.org/

Firefox has a built in local translator that does not reply on servers but it doesn't work that great for Japanese.

Mikudayo (#509 - Apr 3, 2026, 01:58):
>>508
Found one that works better (https://translate.azaka.fun/)
But thanks anon

Mikudayo (#512 - Apr 3, 2026, 17:54):
I've tried their extension and it's effective for translating entire pages. Better than Brave's garbage built in translator at least.

Mikudayo (#513 - Apr 3, 2026, 17:56):
>>509
Yeah some instances go offline a while. I knew of others but wanted to avoid too many people going to same ones since these tend to be run off individuals computers.

Mikudayo (#517 - Apr 8, 2026, 15:54):
You can actually proofread with Kagi or at least their extension. Just found out today.

Mikudayo (#519 - Apr 8, 2026, 16:24):
>>517
How does proof reading work? It corrects grammar?

Mikudayo (#520 - Apr 8, 2026, 16:27):
>>519
Pretty much

Mikudayo (#521 - Apr 8, 2026, 20:23):
>>520
But does it work for Japanese grammar?

Mikudayo (#651 - Jun 7, 2026, 18:49):
Nice, now it's paid. The only decent translator out there and now you have to pay for it.
https://blog.kagi.com/translate-update

Mikudayo (#652 - Jun 7, 2026, 21:16):
What's unlikely great about their translation quality? Or is it just gut feeling?
Honestly GPT baseline is already really good at most JP<->EN translation, but I'm not familiar with what Kagi's secret sauce is for translate. They've trained models for search queries so I assume they've done a finetune for translate.

Mikudayo (#653 - Jun 7, 2026, 21:18):
>>652
As someone who's used Kagi before, for me it's the accuracy with which it translated things and the ability to proofread stuff in case you made a mistake even in your native language. I've user other LLMs before like Chat GPT, Grok, etc but Kagi is the only one I felt was extremely accurate and I've been using it to talk to some of my friends who don't understand English.

Mikudayo (#654 - Jun 7, 2026, 21:19):
>>652
>I assume they've done a finetune for translate.
Yeah that's likely. (samefag btw)

Mikudayo (#655 - Jun 7, 2026, 22:21):
I recently found out DeepL makes slightly better translation when you do Japanese to British English instead of to American English.

Mikudayo (#656 - Jun 7, 2026, 22:47):
>>655
interesting

Mikudayo (#657 - Jun 24, 2026, 12:34):
>>498
Any clue how long this thing will be paid for? I can afford it, I just don't know if its worth it

Mikudayo (#658 - Jun 25, 2026, 19:08):
>>657
Honestly i wouldn't bother much with Kagi for the time being. Yes, it's the best, but if you gotta use AI for translating stuff, most LLMs can already do the job pretty well.

Mikudayo (#660 - Jul 3, 2026, 02:46):
>>658
Which would you recommend? Kagi was fully uncensored so if you had to translate something like "Fuck you suck my dick" it would. ChatGPT considers that offensive.

619 - Milgram Thread

Milgram is an interactive music project by DECO*27 and Yamanaka Takuya in which you, the viewer, decides whether or not to forgive a prisoner for their crimes. Remember to be civil! There's no right or wrong answer.

Never fully understood what Milgram is but I just went on that page and there's a character named "Futa", interesting

Mikudayo (#623 - May 22, 2026, 01:37):

Amane prisoner notes here. Anyways, vote Amane [inno]. She was quite literally following orders as a 12 year old child raised in a cult. If she was in her mother's place, surely her mom would do the same thing she did.
>>621
Best way I can describe it is that the viewers are given the choice to forgive or not forgive the ten prisoners in Milgram. It's essentially prison purgatory with the music videos being the representation of the prisoner's subconscious and point of view leading up to their crime.

322 - Japan Info Research Help Thread

“I'm curious about something in Japan, but there isn’t much info in English—and I don’t even know where to start…”
If that sounds familiar, I can look up Japanese-language sources online on your behalf (as a Japanese speaker).

In general, anything Japan-related is fine—but I can’t guarantee I’ll be able to answer everything.
For example, topics like divisive current events (where opinions vary a lot) or information that requires a high level of expertise may be difficult to handle.
If I can’t give a solid answer, I’ll explain why as clearly as I can.

Mikudayo (#324 - Jan 18, 2026, 02:57):
Hello from America
What brings you to 39chan?

Mikudayo (#325 - Jan 18, 2026, 08:25):
>>323
Hello!
こんにちは！

>>324
Someone who uses this place told me about it.

Mikudayo (#326 - Jan 18, 2026, 12:07):
Is imageboard / textboard culture still alive in Japan? Over here, i'd say that 4chan is still popular, though it's not the same thing it was in the 2000's and a lot of the communities from there have spread to other sites such as social media or other imageboards like 39chan.

Mikudayo (#327 - Jan 18, 2026, 20:18):
>>326
Futaba is a walking corpse, 5ch slightly less so, but there are some more recent offshoots in specific niches. I wouldn't really call them all that successful in terms of a broader Japanese "BBS culture" though because it's not a healthy culture overall. Twitter supplanted 5ch, Mixi, FC2, Livedoor, and pretty much every other Japanese service over a decade ago and that foundation still holds even as the current incarnation of it makes everyone using it wring their hands and kick dirt rather than use another website.

Like everywhere else, people are also piling into dickswords. Even Futaba's best living memory at the moment is currently a huge dicksword server.

Mikudayo (#328 - Jan 18, 2026, 20:22):
>>327
>because it's not a healthy culture overall
To be fair the same could be said about 4chan

Mikudayo (#329 - Jan 18, 2026, 20:26):
One thing I noticed about Futaba is that it gets a lot of illegal spam. Which i guess is not too surprising since every imageboard gets CSEM spam. 39chan in the pre-Figamin days used to get it too. But on Futaba it stays up for days which makes me think that there's probably less staff than before.

Mikudayo (#330 - Jan 21, 2026, 10:51):
>>326
Both still exist, but the user base has been noticeably aging for at least the past decade. I don’t have hard statistics, but I’d say very few younger people use message boards as a regular part of their daily lives.
The gap between boards that get frequent posts and places that are mostly quiet is as big as it’s always been, but users have scattered across different platforms, and the old momentum is gone.

At the same time, the culture that originally grew out of the old 2chan has been getting reappraised lately, partly thanks to a kind of revival wave. For example, McDonald’s recently ran an ad that clearly nodded to classic 2chan ASCII art culture.
And commentary videos or short-form clips based on old 2chan/5chan threads still seem to have a steady audience as content.

Outside of that nostalgia-driven consumption, though, it’s become rare for information originating from 5chan or other boards to sit at the center of public conversation.

That said, board-born incidents still spill out into the wider internet from time to time. With a national election coming up in Japan, a user on 5chan posted a jokingly edited version of a newly formed party’s flag, and it spread on X (formerly Twitter). It ended up being used to push a false claim that the party had copied the flag of some foreign organization, and quite a lot of people—including some well-known figures, even sitting politicians—were taken in by it.

Hopefully not a weird question, but do you have any reading recommendations or info on the 明六社?
Reason is I really like a vocaloid song called 明六某 that seems to be about the group. The artist has written a few times about the mixture/conflict between Western and Eastern cultures in historical Japan, so I guess it is mostly about that. Not sure if maybe there's a way I can understand their commentary about it more intelligently.

I only just learned about this song, but I’m not sure whether “Meiroku” refers exclusively to the Meirokusha.

Personally, when I hear “Meiroku,” I’m reminded of the Meiji 6 Political Crisis, when figures like Saigō Takamori left the government.

As for the Meirokusha: I found a website that hosts PDF scans of the Meiroku Zasshi (Meiroku Magazine), which they published. The site also makes other well-known collections available as historical resources for the study of Japanese.

https://dglb01.ninjal.ac.jp/ninjaldl/bunken.php?title=meirokuzassi

Aside from a few missing pages in issue 23, it seems to include the complete run from issue 1 through issue 43.

The texts use older kanji and historical kana orthography, but when I tried Google Lens plus translation, it actually produced English that made sense. That said, I only tested a small portion, so I can’t guarantee it’s fully readable start to finish.

39chanへようこそ！
Here's my question: Have perceptions about Vocaloid changed over time? Has it become more "mainstream" or is it still firmly seen as a subculture connected with Otaku/Internet Culture in general?
..Sure, you probably won't hear Vocaloid on the radio or something, but I'm always curious to know.

Mikudayo (#335 - Jan 21, 2026, 17:34):
If you're going to post with AI, at least sound believably human. The thread right now reads like a ChatGPT log of Q&A.

Not OP but isn't chatgpt common for JPN>ENG translations in Japan? I recall seeing a couple Japanese people on Twitter use it for that. I think even Hioka uses it.

Mikudayo (#337 - Jan 21, 2026, 19:25):
>>336
Also not OP, but yeah, it's always been common for Japanese people to use machine translation. It just happens that every machine translation app these days uses some kind of LLM.

My gut feeling is that it’s become pretty mainstream compared to back in the day.
That said, it hasn’t stopped being a subculture either.
It’s not so much that Vocaloid itself became “fully mainstream,” but more that people who grew up in Vocaloid culture now hold important spots in Japan’s music scene—so even if voice synthesis is still kind of subcultural, you don’t see it being openly dismissed as much anymore… that’s the vibe.
Also, NHK (Japan’s public broadcaster) has done Vocaloid features on their FM radio before, and even my local FM station will occasionally play a Vocaloid song if someone requests it. CBC Radio even has a show literally called “RADIO MIKU.”

I should’ve mentioned upfront that I was using ChatGPT—sorry. And thanks for pointing that out.
I was probably trying too hard not to lose any meaning, so it came out a bit stiff.

Hold on… I just reread my original Japanese, and it was basically not conversational at all—zero humor, too. So yeah—ChatGPT just did its job, and the awkwardness was 100% on me.
Next time, I’ll have ChatGPT teach me how to write Japanese that actually sounds human.

Mikudayo (#341 - Jan 22, 2026, 11:44):
>>336
There's a world of difference in the way someone like Hioka uses it, who mainly relies on it for strict translation and massaging an original thought, and what you're reading here. >>339 for example goes into the script of apologizing after being corrected, then "reasons" about the response. That's beyond using a machine TL and is just chatbot goop. Besides the various tells like the em-dashes and the puffed analysis, which I am generally fine to look past when it comes to an LLM-assisted translation, the content of the responses appear to be mirrored almost entirely from what a chatbot would respond with too. Note for example that the link in >>332 doesn't resolve and >>327 confuses 2ch/5ch/5chan/2chan, which is not something you would expect a native immersed in those cultures to do.

If the user is a true native, I'd like to see them post in their native tongue (seeing as this is /j/), at least alongside whatever the chatbot is spitting out. Give us some sense you're human and not regurgitating answers that you're prompting.

Apologies if this doesn't fall under "Japanese Culture" but how are the non-Japanese Vocaloids perceived over there? I'm not referring to UTAUs, but Vocaloids such as MAIKA, Tonio, etc.

Mikudayo (#355 - Jan 23, 2026, 07:45):
>>354
Just to be upfront, I’m not very knowledgeable about this, so what I’m saying here is only my personal impression.

In Japan, I don’t think non-Japanese Vocaloids have really reached the general public or more casual Vocaloid fans in any widespread way. And even with Japanese voicebanks, anything outside the especially famous ones tends to have pretty low name recognition among the casual audience.

From what I’ve seen, there are quite a few attempts on Nico Nico Douga to have the so-called “overseas Vocaloids” sing in Japanese. The number of songs isn’t huge compared to the mainstream voicebanks, but they do exist, and many get a few hundred to a few thousand views, with some even reaching the tens of thousands.
My impression is that there’s a steady core fanbase, and every so often the songs manage to reach people who don’t usually listen to them.

As for how they’re perceived or used in professional music production settings, I’m not really sure.

I've seen Japanese people share the sentiment that Twitter/X is dying for a while now, but what do the alternatives look like these days? Is there anything that could overtake Twitter, like how Threads just did in the US, or are these sites still considered fads?

Mikudayo (#361 - Jan 24, 2026, 08:18):
>>355
I think the most recent example of a foreign voicebank that has reached a wider audience would be Yi Xi from SynthV. She's Chinese but ever since an English song with her became popular she now has English and Japanese fans as well.

In Japan, social media rankings can vary depending on how surveys define “users” (registered accounts vs. MAU, etc.), but X (formerly Twitter) is still one of the largest platforms, with its user base often cited at around 68 million.

Bluesky got some attention for a while, but my impression is that many people treat it less as a full replacement and more as a backup—just in case. Threads has also been reported to be growing, but it’s worth noting that a large part of that growth comes from existing users of Meta’s other services like Instagram and Facebook. Instagram has a huge user base in Japan too, but because the audience and typical use cases are different, it feels more like coexistence/segmentation than a straight replacement.

As you can tell from how many companies and public figures use official accounts there, X’s biggest strengths are its real-time nature and its reach. For both people who want to broadcast information and people who want to catch updates quickly, it’s hard to fully walk away from X when the goal is “get it out widely” (or “pick it up fast”).

That applies to VOCALOID fans in Japan as well: as a place where creators post updates and fans help spread them, X is still the main hub.

At the same time, communities are pretty distributed by purpose: videos tend to live on YouTube / Nico Nico / TikTok, illustrations on pixiv / Instagram, and deeper conversations or community management on dicksword and other services. In particular, people in their teens and twenties use TikTok and Instagram a lot more, so as generations shift, the main “center of gravity” (and even the vibe) could change over time.

There’s a word filter on it. There is some grief among western fans that dicksword makes it harder to retain and share information in the long term, that it encourages bad culture, etc.

Mikudayo (#366 - Jan 26, 2026, 12:11):
>>357
If we limit it to the past year, and talking about songs using overseas voicebanks (regardless of whether the producers themselves are overseas), here are a few I know of on NND: Luo Tianyi’s「武装乙女」and「鬼ごっこ」are both over 40k views. Yi Xi’s「言葉遊び」and「マッテイル」are over 50k, and while it hasn’t quite reached that level, Yi Xi’s「モト゛キ」is also over 35k. Xingchen Infinity’s「データスモッグの最中で」is over 40k as well.
Like >>361 said, I think these Chinese-language-based voicebanks have a pretty solid fanbase.

As for songs by overseas Vocaloid producers that I remember being talked about on NND in the past, examples would be KIRA’s “MONSTER,” Circus-P’s “Copycat,” and SAWTOWNE’s “M@GICAL☆CURE! LOVE ♥ SHOT!”
FLAVOR FOLEY’s “BUTCHER VANITY” was also popular on NND. But the reupload of “static” is just under 20k views, and the reupload of “BIRDBRAIN” hasn’t really taken off. “Spoken For” doesn’t even have a proper reupload, which, personally, I’m not too happy about.

Honestly, if the creator uploads their music to YouTube, I think most people just listen there. So there are quite a few songs that are huge on YouTube but don’t get many views on NND at all.

And if we’re talking “overseas songs” in the broadest sense, “VOCALOID2 Hatsune Miku sings ‘Ievan Polkka’” is a legendary outlier on a whole different level.

Mikudayo (#367 - Jan 26, 2026, 12:30):
>>364
It's filtered to Dicksword here (Dick + Sword). In the west "Disc0rd" is synonymous with spam, illegal activities, etc and it has also contributed to the death of small sites like this one so a lot of imageboard sites tend to filter it.

Semi unrelated but on /leek/ it used to be a bit of an inside joke to say that certain Japanese producers use 39chan. Would you say that this is (to some extent) true?.

Mikudayo (#370 - Jan 26, 2026, 13:00):
>>369
A couple western producers do, they just don't really talk about it, and if they do they don't really have any negative nor positive thoughts about it, they just know it exists. (Sauce: I am friends with some of them). As for Japanese ones, it's a bit of the same, except very few of them actually know. The ones who do found it via Hioka or Canon.

Not OP btw.

Also not OP, but most people seem to prefer chatting in their native language, so I don't think JP producers would be very active here. The handful of JP producers active on VO would just use it to advertise their songs.

Something that I have suspected a while so I will start with that if anyone cam answer. I noticed "Decora" fashion has a lot in common with what "Kandi Kid" ravers wear and seemingly similar mentality of expressing an inner child. I checked and found that scene emerged in California a few years before Decora supposedly appeared. Is there anything documented that proves this connection?

Mikudayo (#466 - Mar 26, 2026, 20:41):
What Vocaloid songs would native Japanese speakers consider the most accessible to someone unfamiliar with Vocaloid?

Do native Japanese speakers consider popular Vocaloid songs like "wowaka ローリンガール Rollin Girl" and "iroha(sasaki) 炉心融解 Meltdown" to be emotionally challenging to listen to?

Mikudayo (#467 - Mar 27, 2026, 13:34):
>>409
I’m not really knowledgeable about fashion, so I couldn’t find any sources that directly show a connection. But I did find an interesting article about the origins of Decora fashion in Harajuku.

It says that Decora may trace back to Harajuku club culture in the 1980s, and that the fashion there may have been influenced by the London club scene, especially punk fashion. There may be some common ground there in things like bold self-expression and DIY elements.
https://www.fashionsnap.com/article/whatisdecora/

Also, this article on the history of kawaii culture includes some discussion suggesting there may be a link between 1990s UK rave culture and Decora as well.
https://note.com/helixum/n/ndf8c1d4500c9

Mikudayo (#468 - Mar 27, 2026, 14:21):
>>466
That’s a difficult question, since I’m not exactly someone unfamiliar with Vocaloid myself.

Still, if I had to answer, I’d say that how accessible a song feels mostly comes down to personal taste, and probably is not determined all that much by whether someone is a Japanese speaker or not.
Even if someone understands Japanese and can read the lyrics, interpretation will still vary from person to person.

For example, songs like “Rolling Girl” and “Meltdown” could certainly bring up complicated feelings if someone reads deeply into the lyrics or relates them to real-world nuclear disasters.
But at the same time, I think it is perfectly fine if someone simply likes the overall atmosphere of the song or the feel of the words in the lyrics.
And “Meltdown” was released in 2008, so it was not written with the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster in mind.

How someone receives a song can vary a lot depending on interpretation, background knowledge, and personal sensibilities.

Also, for someone completely unfamiliar with synthesized singing voices, first impressions may depend more on whether the voice itself is easy to understand than on the meaning of the lyrics.
No matter how great a song is, if they cannot clearly make out the lyrics and the vocal style sounds unfamiliar, they will probably find it difficult at first.

So in that sense, for a Vocaloid beginner’s first impression, an easy-to-understand singing voice may be one factor that makes a song feel more accessible.
Other than that, it still mostly comes down to personal preference.

468 (#469 - Mar 27, 2026, 14:45):
>>466
So for that reason, it is difficult for me to point to any specific songs.
To be honest, I do not really know which songs people who are getting into Vocaloid now are using as their entry point.

But to put it bluntly, I think the first impression of the MV may matter even more.

I do not mean that the MV is being valued on its own while the song is ignored.
Rather, I mean that the song’s worldview needs to be translated properly into visual form, and that it is only through the synergy between the song’s appeal and the MV that a truly positive first impression can be created.

Thank you for answering my question.

Mikudayo (#471 - Mar 27, 2026, 16:20):
>>468
Feel free to correct me but I think what the anon you replied to was referring to is which songs the Japanese side of the fandom considers to be good for introducing someone to Vocaloid.

Over here it's common for people to recommend the classics (Rolling Girl, Meltdown, etc). You can get a general idea of what people recommend in this thread: >>>/leek/21305
But since Vocaloid is arguably more popular now than it was years ago, people also recommend new, popular songs like Mesmerizer.

I'll give my 2 cents and say that there's no definitive song to introduce someone to Vocaloid because at the end of the day everybody has different genres they like, but I do think that the classics are a good starting point.

Mikudayo (#472 - Mar 27, 2026, 21:44):
>>467
Oh so that has some earlier roots of Decora than I saw from other sources so that does complicate things if true. Thanks.

Does the Japanese side of the Vocaloid community have their own forums to discuss Vocaloid? I know a majority has moved over to SNS such as Twitter, and I know that 2channel and Futaba Channel still exist, but are there no Vocaloid specific places? The western community has Vocaverse, UTAforum (For UTAU discussion) and 39chan.

Apologies if its a touchy subject but I wanted to know what the general consensus on piracy is in Japan, especially since in many countries (notably Latin American and Southeast Asian ones) it is seen as a need.

I recently saw an image of a comment that said something along the lines of "Telling my Japanese friend to use an emulator was like telling him to shoot his childhood pet". Is it really such a taboo subject over there? And if so, is it true that the majority of Japanese users are against it, or is there at least a minority that understands the issue and might even be in favor of it?.

Mikudayo (#625 - May 24, 2026, 17:56):
Considering how strict copyright laws seem to be in Japan I've been wondering if the concept of a "fansite" was ever a thing there. In the west at the height of Hatsune Miku and Vocaloid's popularity we had several sites run by fans such as forums and news blogs (Mikufan.com, VocaloidOtaku, VNN, etc. You could even count 39chan as a fansite).

Mikudayo (#626 - May 24, 2026, 18:02):
>>625
Just noticed a similar question was asked above but I'm referring to fansites in general, not just discussion sites. Non-official news sites related to Vocaloid or Vocaloid-adjacent software counts.

Mikudayo (#627 - May 24, 2026, 19:44):
>>625
Not OP, but yes, sort of. The definitive Japanese news blog at the time was HatsuneMikuMiku (初音ミクみく). The equivalent to VO was Vocaloid Nyappon (picrel), which was an invite-only social media. Since mixi was invite-only for many years, it was normal for these types of fan communities to remain private.

There wasn't an era of large all-in-one fansites like in the west. The community was atomized across many personal blogs, personal webpages, free wikis, BBSes, and social media.

Mikudayo (#628 - May 24, 2026, 19:45):
>>627
Naruhodo. Do you know if any of those were archived on the wayback machine?.

Mikudayo (#629 - May 24, 2026, 20:29):
>>628
Private communities like Nyappon were mostly not. Almost everything would be locked behind an account, so it's just a few pages that randomly slipped through.
On the other hand, most of the rest is either still available or archived, since the free web hosts from back then haven't started closing until recently.

Mikudayo (#641 - Jun 4, 2026, 17:08):
>>627
Vocaloid social media sounds good on paper but seeing what social media has become, yeah, maybe not the greatest idea. I wonder if that's why Crypton never brought back Mikubook.

Mikudayo (#642 - Jun 4, 2026, 17:27):
>>641
Kiite.JP is basically Mikubook's successor, except it doesn't operate in English. It's one of the main sites that Vocaloid fans in Japan use.

Mikudayo (#643 - Jun 4, 2026, 17:46):
>>642
This is neat. I wonder if they have their own equivalent of VocaDB as well (though from what i've seen on Twitter they just use VocaDB in Japanese).

Mikudayo (#644 - Jun 4, 2026, 18:51):
>>643
Kiite is usually used instead of VocaDB for music discovery and playlists, but VocaDB is more complete as a database, so it has some recognition.
Fun fact: Crypton used VocaDB's API to support official YouTube uploads on Kiite while Niconico's servers were down.

Mikudayo (#645 - Jun 4, 2026, 19:26):

I've had these, which i think are the standard ones. They're great.

Mikudayo (#398 - Mar 1, 2026, 03:33):
>>397
I had the limited time tomato flavored ones that they were selling at a nearby Asian market. I regret not buying an entire box of them

Mikudayo (#401 - Mar 1, 2026, 09:16):
I remember Kopiko candy being very good but I can't recall which variety I had. Been thinking of getting a big jar of it which actually doesnt cost much per ounce when buying the large size. Not too difficult to find sold in the West. I would probably opt more for the normal one the cappuccino one probably has more junk in it just like their blanca coffee has hydrogenated vegetable oil in it.

Mikudayo (#402 - Mar 1, 2026, 20:00):
>>401
Is it one of those you're meant to suck on?

Mikudayo (#403 - Mar 2, 2026, 00:21):
>>402
Yes, it's a hard candy you suck on. I've also had some green tea hard candy but I can't seem to find the wrapper to see what it was.

Mikudayo (#404 - Mar 2, 2026, 01:33):
>>403
>>401
Never had Kopiko but I've had coffee flavored candy like that, its very good

Mikudayo (#405 - Mar 3, 2026, 02:23):
For me it's strawberry pocky

Mikudayo (#406 - Mar 3, 2026, 03:09):
>>405
I like crunchy strawberry better.

Mikudayo (#426 - Mar 19, 2026, 15:34):

Mikudayo (#427 - Mar 19, 2026, 20:50):

I prefer the matcha pocky, and the banana ones, but strawberry is my fav of the defaults.
I personally recommend puchi pastel

Mikudayo (#441 - Mar 21, 2026, 19:42):
>>426
Is that a System of a Down reference in my 39chins?

Mikudayo (#444 - Mar 22, 2026, 02:52):
>>441
Sure why not

Mikudayo (#445 - Mar 22, 2026, 03:28):
>>405
>>406
>>427
I prefer the regular ones lmao

Mikudayo (#449 - Mar 22, 2026, 16:21):
Anyone had that Pocky that is supposed to go with whiskey?

Mikudayo (#555 - Apr 25, 2026, 03:05):
>>449
Is that an actual product or are you suggesting i combine those two things

Mikudayo (#564 - Apr 25, 2026, 17:39):
>>555
It is a chocolate malt flavor I think

Mikudayo (#577 - Apr 28, 2026, 03:29):

Damn that looks good

Mikudayo (#185 - Jul 11, 2025, 17:33):

Mikudayo (#594 - May 1, 2026, 16:53):

After how Fuiro turned out i don't think i want another voicebank based on an Utaite's voice

Mikudayo (#595 - May 1, 2026, 16:54):
>>594
As a vocaloid its fine, its not a bad voicebank, but it sounds nothing like Philo herself lol

Mikudayo (#314 - Dec 29, 2025, 03:53):
I don't know much about IM@S but I like this song

Mikudayo (#381 - Feb 1, 2026, 14:22):
Produced by Iyowa.

Mikudayo (#476 - Mar 29, 2026, 23:21):
Is anyone else going to ACEN for the IM@S concert? I'm going and I'm super excited, it feels like Namco has been more involved with overseas fans lately.

Mikudayo (#478 - Mar 30, 2026, 01:02):
IM@S is one of those series I've heard about for decades at this point and that I've always had a bit of interest in but could never understand where to start or how to get into it exactly. Figured I'd ask in this thread since the people here are nice and don't make fun of newfags like me unless they're being purposefully annoying. :yukarietto:

Mikudayo (#479 - Mar 30, 2026, 01:03):
>>478 (Me)
Forgot to mention but I already listen to some of the music. The last thing I heard was >>381 because someone showed it to me and I love Iyowa.

Mikudayo (#480 - Mar 30, 2026, 08:29):
>>476
I've gone to Acen the past few years so yeah, definitely wouldn't miss this either.

I will say, knowing the organizers and how this came to be, it's probably wishful to think this represents anything other than a con staff that wanted to make it happen. Back during AWM in 2017 and 2018 when CG was brought over, a lot of what we were saying about overseas fans finally getting attention didn't realize anything. Same with the Shiny Festa mobile releases in 2013. Bamco has a long history of throwing a bone to the US (specifically the US) every few years. Other than some exceptions like ML in Thailand, the brand doesn't really have much inertia outside of Japan.

Mikudayo (#481 - Mar 30, 2026, 09:45):
>>478
The 2011 anime was the entry point for a lot of current fans and it still holds up overall. Beyond that, since we're on this site I think I would say go in the directions that Vocaloid interests you because they were tightly coupled in their early history. There are equal concerts (even in the Vtuber vein now), fan creations, and music. If you like Slay the Spire or Uma, you'd probably have some fun the Gakumas game. The 9th anniversary in 2014 and MOIW 2014 and 2015 are well thought of for concerts. For music, probably listen to Gakumas if you like EDM (lots of Vocaloid producer influence here) or download the BEST OF 765 albums if you want a primer.

Mikudayo (#482 - Mar 30, 2026, 14:04):
>>478
You joined at the right time lol

Mikudayo (#484 - Mar 31, 2026, 23:52):
>>478
It's quite simple anon, just look at the designs of any of the girls (or guys for SideM) and choose which one that interests you the most. And I mean this completely seriously too. Learn about that character and listen to their songs, commus (basically side stories where you learn more about the character), watch the main story, etc. I recommend Gakumas or Shinymas because they have a pretty dedicated ENG fan translation team for the game and content. Gakumas has a smaller cast so it'll be less overwhelming. Both also have a PC version too. https://github.com/snowyivu/ShinyColors for the Shinymas ENG patch and https://gakumas.natsume.io/ for Gakumas.

I've played everything (except the fighting games) up to the one that had Clownpiece which i believe was 15? It was new when i played it.

i can strongly recommend 18, its one of the more unique games that can be pretty easy if you use the right cards, the cast is alright but the gameplay really shrines in UM

i've only played 6, 7, 8, and the pc-98 games (mostly touhou 3 because it has chiyuri and yumemi and i love them dearly)

pretty much what >>226 said
they have a bit of a silly shitpost vibe which i think is cute, and they're not THAT hard to adjust to if you've played touhou before (excluding highly responsive to prayers, since the gameplay for it is entirely different)

they are pretty fun and like the other anon said a lot more silly and goofy. they also arent too difficult (unless you are fighing rapegetsu) and the midi soundtrack is verrrrry good, it also has the best phantasmagoria game

I have to shill my favorite touhou fangame which still isn't out yet, 東方聖戦影 ～ Forlorn Souls of Wicked Past. Its not perfect (brutal difficulty curve, the demo is the length of a full game, its style is visually overwhelming to a lot of players, unbalanced shot types, spongebob) but i've been thinking about it on and off for a year now. The person who did final arrangement of the music is on yt and has many nice compositions, but the actual composer just has danmafuku test footage from years ago.

Ive been listening to zytokine recently, like going through the discography. After that I gave a try to some 96 glass album and some of the song in that album had samled missing opus. Some time after that I searched for random voca/utau/sv/other-loid songs and listened Meltdown. Next day I returned to pleasing myself with that 96 glass album and I realised that the miku song also has Meltdown sampled. What a weird coincidence. Small world.

Mikudayo (#491 - Apr 2, 2026, 06:04):
I enjoyed the first episode while it was establishing the premise, but I think the episodes with more mundane plots are kinda boring, and the jokes start to get stale. By the end, all I wanted was for them to let poor Sabato-chan sleep inside the house.
:lensorry:
By the way, Hazel recommended Dokuro Chan in her Eiken video.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=zHTBvvRCqmk&t=3751s
The rest of the video is good too, depending on your tolerance for "I personally find this piece of media to be morally objectionable" type shit (mostly confined to one section outside of a few jokes). I'd never recommend Hazel's videos or her music to /jp/ (for several reasons) but hopefully you guys will be chill about it and not yell at me.
:yukarietto:
>>437
>it's also one of those shows that people on the internet will not watch and pretend to like
It's six episodes of digipaint mid. I can see people doing this for something like K-On! (mostly because of the blighted fanbase), but this?

Mikudayo (#492 - Apr 2, 2026, 07:37):
>>465
No, I don't at least not a physical ailment I am aware of currently. I just sometimes without thinking about it have it slip out how my life is going for me. My bad.

Mikudayo (#501 - Apr 2, 2026, 23:01):
>>491
>I'd never recommend Hazel's videos or her music to /jp/ (for several reasons)
Uh why? I like her videos and her music is kitschy goodness i enjoy. Reminds me of some old punk bands. Is there some lore I'm missing? :yukarietto:

Mikudayo (#502 - Apr 2, 2026, 23:04):
>>491
Anitubers in general kinda suck and i'd rather watch the show myself instead of having someone tell me what its about
>I can see people doing this for something like K-On! (mostly because of the blighted fanbase), but this?
You'd be surprised

Mikudayo (#504 - Apr 2, 2026, 23:16):
>>502
I like the educational kind of anitubers who font just give opinions but try to teach you something. Or the ones who get all philosophical deep analysis but rarely post.

Mikudayo (#505 - Apr 2, 2026, 23:38):
>>501
>Is there some lore I'm missing?
No. It's just that contemporary 4chan is a cesspool with no moderation. I don't watch to trigger a political flamewar just for posting a video.
>>502
>Anitubers in general kinda suck
I agree, I don't watch most anime YouTubers; most of the time their videos are just boring plot summaries followed by banal opinions. I like Hazel because she does a lot of research and tends to cover more obscure topics, and I find her perspective interesting.

Mikudayo (#506 - Apr 2, 2026, 23:54):
>>505
One I watch is TheCynicClinic who oddly doesn't have many subscribers despite making videos for like a decade and actually puts research into them. Unless he is just taking content from someone else I am unaware of but I had not come across exact copies of his videos.

There also is an animator I like to watch Dong Chang who came from Canada but works in Japan so he's a lot easier to follow what he is saying on how the animation process works than someone you have to read subtitles for plus he had worked in Canada too so he can compare Western and Japanese animation methods.

431 - Yorhel has passed away

As many of you know, Yoran Heling a.k.a Yorhel, the founder of the Visual Novel Database, has passed away on March 17th. No announcement had been made until now. Those of you who may not be entirely familiar with visual novels have probably stumbled upon his website through a VN called "Mirai no Kimi to, Subete no Uta ni", which made the rounds around the early 2010's and might be the most popular Vocaloid-related fan VN. Ultimately, though, VNDB was more than just a Visual Novel Database, as the title implies. It was a major contribution to otaku culture in general. Rest in peace, Yorhel.

289 - the amazingness of the japanese culture

Many years ago I had chance to work in the kadokawa herald for an international project based on a very famous dark fantasy writer, they had curiosity, real concrete interest and passion to embrace and to japanize something born in a different country. There are many difficulties in the common writing of such kinf of franchiese... the japaneses create emotional fresco fully different from the "europeans". But in time the Japan culture won the war for the global imaginary, only old generations can see that, the yooung people think that it was always like in the now.

Mikudayo (#290 - Nov 24, 2025, 05:47):
I support your only slightly coherent ramblings, but I can't help but laugh that you summoned Kadokawa, the blackest of black companies, in support of the amazingness Japanese culture.

More directly addressing your post, while I think it's true that Japanese cultural exports are having their most modern success, it's really mostly by accident. Conglomerates like Kadokawa in fact have been reticent to let Japanese culture expand while the internet has allowed global and unencumbered participation in cultures. Japan will benefit as we globally trend towards an even more visual culture, but they aren't the only winners and the tides can shift just as quickly as other players wise up. Look no further than J-pop's decay (beyond Vocaloid, a true subculture unencumbered by copyright and suits) while K-pop has eaten its lunch.

188 - AviUtl 2 Released

For those who are unaware AviUtl is a free Japanese video editing software used by a lot of professionals - from doujin circles to otomad creators and vocaloid producers. A new version called AviUtl 2 recently came out. Have you used it yet?.

Mikudayo (#190 - Jul 12, 2025, 15:50):
do any linoox users know how well it runs with wine? i'm curious to try it out and possibly replace my usual video editor

Mikudayo (#191 - Jul 12, 2025, 15:52):
>>190
Considering it doesn't even seem to run on Windows i wouldn't get my hopes up but go ahead and try, and let me know how it goes

Mikudayo (#200 - Jul 17, 2025, 14:07):
has anyone been able to run it yet

Mikudayo (#201 - Jul 17, 2025, 18:26):

WTF does it run on then

Are yall using jp locale when running it? If not maybe that’s the issue? Fuck if I know

Mikudayo (#202 - Jul 17, 2025, 18:27):
>>201
I use UTAU and play MMO so my locale is already in Japanese

Mikudayo (#217 - Jul 22, 2025, 20:50):
I downloaded right when it came out and it runs fine on my computer.
Fun to mess around with even if I know nothing about video editing.

Mikudayo (#218 - Jul 22, 2025, 21:33):
>>217
What OS do you use?

Mikudayo (#219 - Jul 22, 2025, 22:03):
>>218
Windows 10. I'm not using JP locale. I haven't tested any of the later versions yet, just beta 1.

Mikudayo (#220 - Jul 22, 2025, 22:08):

Tried beta 1 and I get >>189 followed by another error related to what seems to be an effect

Mikudayo (#222 - Jul 22, 2025, 22:13):
Not the same guy who said they got it working but maybe the issue is that we're using it with a Japanese locale, can someone in here confirm if that's the case?

Mikudayo (#223 - Jul 22, 2025, 22:15):
>>220
Maybe your GPU is too old? According to this site that could be the problem.

68 - Zundamon and other Japan related TTS videos

Recently found this channel which teaches about Japanese culture through Zundamon. I thought it'd be interesting to have a thread for these types of videos in general.

They added it a while back and it's terrible. I absolutely despise that soulless, default TTS voice. But at the same time I can see why they use it.

192 - ITT: VocaDuo 2025 and beyond songs

>What is VocaDuo?
Chances are you've seen it on your feed but it is a contest where Utaites and VocalPs (ie vocalsynth producers) make songs together annually. It's relatively huge, mixing the techincal prowess of producers with actual singers

>Why isn't this in /leek/
Because it's only tangibly a Vocaloid contest with the vocaloid part missing, with the big focus being on the synthesis of producer and singer

Post songs and anything interesting you have come across, such as hidden gems, skits, etc. Discuss to your hearts content.

i lurk 5ch sometimes

Mikudayo (#87 - May 21, 2025, 23:55):
You should check out http://world2ch.net, I've been browsing it for several weeks. It reopened a month ago and has been pretty active. its a 2ch type board if you couldnt tell

Mikudayo (#88 - May 21, 2025, 23:58):
>>87
Been there, pretty neat
Not a japanese website though
But i appreciate that they tried to make what is basically an english 2channel

Mikudayo (#89 - May 22, 2025, 00:49):
>>87
I should go back there again but I only really feel at home on 39chan
Idk why but other image boards make me nervous ahaha

Mikudayo (#90 - May 22, 2025, 01:12):
>>87
That's cool and all but can they make an UTAU like 2channel?

>>89
You're not missing out on much. Only Wapchan and Hikari are worth visiting these days imo
Themed chans like TF2chan were awesome back in the day but today they're mostly a thing from the past. 39chan technically is one of those and i have no idea how it's so active being a themed chan but i'm happy that it is.

Mikudayo (#91 - May 22, 2025, 01:15):
>>90
>i have no idea how it's so active being a themed chan
If i had to guess it's because there's more interest in Vocaloid than years ago. There's another themed chan i can think of that also has a ton of traffic and gets at least one post per second and that's Holotower for Hololive discussions.

I do hope that themed chans make a comeback though, the demand is there and a lot of communities would benefit from one.

Mikudayo (#94 - May 22, 2025, 01:44):
world2ch(if you were referring to it) is older than 4chan so it is not a "chan", alternative channel as in 2channel, sure.

Mikudayo (#95 - May 22, 2025, 01:54):
Sometimes I go on Futaba's Vocaloid board. It's very interesting.

Mikudayo (#98 - May 22, 2025, 02:30):
cool it with the self promo, this thread is about japanese websites

Mikudayo (#99 - May 22, 2025, 02:41):
daft cunt, its not my site.
Ever heard of ayashii boards? A type of BBS that started in 1996(?), which somewhat laid the ground for 2ch. Here's a modern one:
http://www.misao.mixh.jp/cgi-bin/bbs.cgi
https://ge-jutu.ayasii.com/bbs/ (this ones filled with spam)

Mikudayo (#101 - May 22, 2025, 02:45):
how did I double post

Mikudayo (#102 - May 22, 2025, 03:25):

Fun fact, Paheal has a hidden Kareha board originally intended to be used for when the site (Rule34) went down but it's so old and outdated that these days it's nothing but a spam dumping ground that for some reason they have never bothered to remove
http://blog.paheal.net/dis/

idk if i would consider tegaki an imageboard but its definitely a japanese site

Mikudayo (#116 - Jun 2, 2025, 17:00):

it has some cool threads

Mikudayo (#117 - Jun 2, 2025, 17:03):
>>95
Is this really '''the''' vocaloid board? It seems a lot more inactive than 39chan /leek/. Also, I saw a nude Kiritan.

Mikudayo (#118 - Jun 2, 2025, 17:04):
>>117
or maybe 2chan is more active than Futaba... hmmm....

Our love for Luka transcends the language barrier

Mikudayo (#127 - Jun 5, 2025, 23:53):
It's not in Japanese language, but there's an imageboard owned by a Japanese person called Ikouchan. The topic is cultural exchange and there's a bot that replies to posts. It's pretty comfy.

Mikudayo (#139 - Jun 6, 2025, 13:26):
which browser software is good for autotranslating afformentioned websites inplace? To make them browseable. any good extensions, to make them navigatable, readable?

I've tried one top-rated browser "extension" , for website translation - it basically sent site to translate.google.com proxy frame , breaking all html css , disabling post forms, not being helpful.

Mikudayo (#140 - Jun 6, 2025, 13:30):
>>139
Brave has an auto-translate function which doesn't break the code but it's terrible and inaccurate as hell. If it's of any use there's "translated" versions of Futaba, Momicha and Momoizou (it only translates the menus, not the actual contents of the sites).
https://futabachannel.neocities.org/
https://momizou.neocities.org/
https://momicha.neocities.org/

Also since this thread is about Japanese sites, the people behind those translations also created this directory of Japanese BBS sites which some here might find interesting
https://bbsdirectory.neocities.org/

Mikudayo (#141 - Jun 6, 2025, 13:36):
I think it's interesting that all these Japanese Futaba-based Imageboards have been suffering from spam attacks recently. I keep seeing spam bots linking to "undress people with AI" scam sites. Have they always had spam attacks like that? I know that on the English side we have to deal with worse and actually illegal types of spam.

Mikudayo (#142 - Jun 6, 2025, 13:53):
Funny that the majority of western Nijiura Maids fans only know them from Breakcore album covers and TikTok and have never stepped foot on Nijiura itself, lol.

It's probably regionlocked to JP only, i never used it myself

Mikudayo (#161 - Jun 8, 2025, 12:22):

yeah. it's a bit region locked to jp ip that are non vpn or proxy. I think it'll blacklist jp vpn & proxies.

wow! some one made something actually useful & helpful on neocities! :o good job with directory

You really think the drummer of one of the most legendary bands of all time that changed music forever would be broke?

I do wonder the same though, did they really just get him there to say his name?

Mikudayo (#135 - Jun 6, 2025, 10:25):
>>121
It's a pun. Apple in Japanese is ringo, and they're saying something like "Ah, I drank a whole apple!" but the way it's phrased, "Ringo Sutta" sounds like "Ringo Starr." He responds by saying something like "You rang?"

People don’t seem too excited about living in Japan due to the work culture, but working for a foreign company could make a difference. Daily life there looks so vibrant and dynamic, there’s always something to do and see!

Can't wait to play Sound Voltex for hours again :rinheart:

Japan is a life changer, I visited it for the first time in 2023, only for 1 week. I've never traveled before and it was such a revelation to me. I HAD TO GO THERE. I don't see my life anywhere but in Japan.
:kaitolick:

Mikudayo (#75 - Mar 30, 2025, 17:59):
Damn, now i wish i could go to akihabara. I cant see myself living there but it would definitely be cool. I have a few friends in japan so it would be cool to visit them too.

Before doing all of this, I was stuck in army with no degree, not a single cybersecurity knowledge.
I gave up everything and started a new life. It was hard, I worked as a waiter doing countless hours of work each week-end during my studies and I'm still struggling even if I have an IT job now.

But Japan is at the end !!!! Go for it, if you need some motivation or tips you can still ask me :rinthumbs:

Mikudayo (#80 - Mar 31, 2025, 02:41):

Had sushi for the first time a few months ago. It's probably not authentic sushi considering the place i got it from but i was surprised by how well it tasted. Wasabi is spicier than i thought too but i still dig it.

Mikudayo (#25 - Apr 24, 2025, 19:21):

I want to eat Takoluka

Mikudayo (#31 - Apr 29, 2025, 16:06):
I've always wondered why a lot of fun, novelty food products tend to be exclusive to Japan (and other parts of Asia). Like why can't we also have black burgers for the sake of just having them?. (Technically these did exist in my country but for a limited time and during halloween, they tasted like the average Burger King burger).

Mikudayo (#32 - Apr 30, 2025, 14:07):
I obsessively buy this japanese curry because I'm hopelessly addicted, I love adding it to jasmine rice :rinheart:

Mikudayo (#33 - Apr 30, 2025, 14:08):

Mikudayo (#47 - May 5, 2025, 16:35):
Has anyone here ever eaten zundamon? **(zunda mochi)**
It's not sold where i live so i've considered looking at recipes to make my own

Ya'll should start fucking with Vermont Curry. I make a nice big pot of this shit with carrots, red potatoes, and beef, serve it over rice, feeds me and my husband for a week.

There's pepper in this, so unfortunately I can't have it. It kind of pisses me off America is like obsessed with black pepper coz I have to read the ingredients on everything constantly even with simple shit like pasta sauce. :yukarietto:

Mikudayo (#115 - Jun 2, 2025, 01:04):
>>114
I wasn't aware of that, there wasn't any listed in the ingredients on the box I've got.
> It kind of pisses me off America is like obsessed with black pepper

This is a Japanese product/house foods is a Japanese brand, so they might have some that don't have any! If not there's other good instant Japanese curry options. Either way sorry to hear that.
